Absolutely my favourite game in the series so far. The game feels a bit too easy on normal difficulty but I haven't tried hard yet. Will be a good entry point for people new to the series. Don't worry, you don't need to play any other games to understand this one, it's standalone. The characters are well written and every one of them has depth, even if they may seem shallow on the surface. The support conversations are moving and sometimes funny. The character art is great, and whilst the graphics aren't as impressive as other switch titles, they're the best we've seen from Fire Emblem. The story is full of twists, and even though some are predictable, it's great fun, especially when your choices can impact the story.Fantastic replayability, with the three houses to choose. Theres also a 'secret' second heart-wrenching route if you choose Black Eagles, which plays quite differently to the others. The gameplay is also great. I love the addition of monsters, they add a new layer of depth to the strategy and they actually feel quite formidable. Of course a lot of maps are pretty big standard, I've also played lots of interesting and innovative maps that have really made me think. You can also greatly customise your units classes and skills, which is another part of the strategy.I expected the side activities like walking around the monastery etc to be quite trivial, but they're actually really fun. There's a lot of time between the battles (unless you choose to skip these days, whcih you can do) but I haven't been at all bored by it.10/10, would recommend whether you're an old fan or completely new to the series.

So to start off, I’m a huge Fire Emblem fan (even Fates). That being said, I avoided looking up the game before buying - didn’t watch any of the promo material other than the main trailer as I didn’t want to get my hopes up after previous disappointments.I was also unsure how they would translate from two screens to one on the switch.I was 100000% blown away by this game. The stories are compelling, the characters are all well written and not just one note. The art style is gorgeous and the soundtrack even more so.There are 4 routes you can take and 3 sets of students you can choose as your main group.I chose Blue Lions first and I’m so glad I did! It’s been my favourite route overall and it’s so character driven! The gameplay basically fixes most of the issues I had with previous titles. Pair up has finally been fixed and I love all the new weapon arts and gambits introduced. And not everyone has to get married and make child units. The game guides you through so if you’re new you’ll ease into it gradually. That being said I did find the game easier than say Echoes:SOV (my favourite FE game), but I’m sure with the new modes being added I can frustrate myself to no end.It has borrowed some elements from Persona 5 - but has managed to make them their own. And I loved the variety rather than constant battling. This game made me tear up many times (looking at you Blue Lions route or playing Black Eagles last) and you can see the love and care that has gone into it.The English VA cast is exceptional. And they do such a great job with their characters.Go buy this- you won’t regret it!

Holy moly... This was my first introduction to the fire emblem series proper (after some fun with their Warriors version). I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was blown away. I've completed one run through and, rarely for me, will almost certainly do more to uncover more of the story. The game play has a really nice balance of intensity to adventure. The teaching and levelling up parts are enjoyable and really help you to immerse yourself in the role; a role which is central to the story's emotive core. I don't wish to spoil anything at all so I'll simply say that the way the story unfolds is fantastic, you also don't get to know and understand everything that's happening from one play (or perhaps more)and I think that's actually incredible - in life, we don't know everything, we are all left with unanswered questions (and rather than a lazy flaw, this story makes the most of that!). There are times when the story tends towards a little immaturity, which is natural to given its design and target audience, but just when you think it's a little vanilla it shows some incredible underlying depth to the characters' stories, relationships and psychology. Ultimately, the more you put in to this game the more you get out. Give everything, and you'll enjoy a fascinating story with enjoyable gameplay which ultimately reveals itself to understand the inherent tragic realism of human nature, conflict and inescapable choices. I highly recommend it, it's left me with one of my most brilliantly tragic moments in my gaming life!P.s. yes, you have to be mature to see all this but it's there!

Finding it hard to put down.Very engaging right from the start with the choice to lead (as a professor) one of the three houses at this school. The great thing is that it's not some cringe teen drama or over the top anime crap, the characters are very grounded, likeable and actually come out with some pretty thoughtful dialogue in their interactions with each other. It manages to build mystery quite well too; I'm about 20 hours in now and it's got me wondering who to trust, what's going to happen, etc.Just a solid game I think most people would enjoy - Although it looks quite simple on the surface, it's got many mechanics that make it a personal experience. The way you teach, instruct, bond with the characters really involves you and there's the added stake of permadeath if you lose any students on the battlefield (you can play without this).Couple of niggles - performance can be a bit poor. Frame rate drops are too frequent during the exploration around the monastery and the main character is a complete blank slate lol. Previous games in this series have had these kind of protagonists and i swear they've worked better. But really it's no big deal at all.

Love everything. I got the limited edition for ~£77 as I preordered it. The package was surprisingly big, but when I opened it I immediately understood why. The art book is absolutely gorgeous and I really love the usb and pins that came with it although I have to admit that the usb was a bit flimsy when I inserted it into my laptop due to the design of it. The steelbook also looked really nice. As a FE fan who has never ordered a limited edition apart from FE Warriors, I was absolutely mind blown by the extra merch. As for the game itself, although I have only spent 4 hours so far on it, I absolutely love the initial content as I’m a big fan of schools that are divided into factions. The thing that really made me love the initial part of the game is the ability to freely explore the academy on “rest days” and just relax while doing so. I already feel more attached to the characters simply because I get to interact with them while roaming around. The area in which I can roam around is so big that, even with the map, I get lost lol.

Fire emblem one are my fav games of all time, this game has a very fluid and fun combat, you can decide to train your squad on which way youd like even if they for ex have weakness (flying) they can still learn it obv in a slower pace than others, knowing your students personalities and seeing their development as them progress is engaging, fishing and gardening are fun and i find gardening quite addictive even tho simple, i wasnt so sure about this one cuz havwnt played any similar games before, this game is quite scary at first because of the functions, but they are simple when you understand them, i put on permadeath to make me more careful about my choices but you can do casual as well,i had to restart my squad 4 times till i was happy with their (goals) cuz i was making a few mistakes, since i learned their behaviour i can restart the game with an even more strategy and engagement. amazing graphics and amazing cutscenes, replayability is immense too.

As someone aware there is a long history to the Fire Emblem series but never having played one I can say in all honesty buy this game. If you are a fan of Nintendo and there emphasis on character and story driven games this is a must. The game-play can be as in depth of shallow as you wish allowing you to auto train and auto resolve. But the true meat of the game is getting in customising your teams progression to bring your story to an end. Each character is well presented with secrets and story's you will not be able to fully understand in just one play through. The new game + mode allows you multiple playthroughs carrying over benefits and making it easier to enjoy the story without micro managing. With three basic story routes and many minor junctions during. My first play through was just under 70 hours but I'm enjoying playing from the other perspectives.

I played black eagles. Honestly one of the best games I’ve ever played, the characters are so well written and the storyline shocked me with its twists and turns. The only possible drawback I can see for people is the fact that it’s turn based combat, but I must admit that Three Houses does it really well. The battles feel long but it’s just the matter of depth that they go in. 100% recommend if you want to be lost in a game for hours upon hours.Another note is that there are 4 routes you can take the game on. Black eagles (edelgard) blue lions (dimitri) and golden deer (claude). There’s also a hidden church route in these.this allows the player to see the events from other perspectives and enjoy the game plenty of times with twists and important aspects on other characters

All I really play these days are online games like MOBAs or FPS PvP style games. I was losing touch of why I fell in love to begin with. Trust Nintendo to help me out. I always thought of Fire Emblem as a worse Luminous Arc as a kid (maybe I was uncultured), but I enjoyed Awakening. Fates not as much. This game is on another level to those games. It's like a mix between Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy elements. I don't want to delve into the plot. I just want to say that you will love and hate the characters, sometimes at the same time, the game has infinite replay value and you will not regret your purchase. Worth the cost of the Switch itself.

A brilliant entry to the Fire Emblem series and am absolute triumph on the Switch. Like Zelda: Breath of the Wild, this is a series high and both an excellent entry point and a prefect evolution for the series for existing fans. Great replay value for the three story threads and very addictive tactical rpg gameplay wrapped in a player led narrative story experience make this a must have purchase for Switch owners. If you're buying this for your kids I would suggest age 10 minimum as the gameplay may be a little complex for gamers youngers than that, plus there's a lot of reading involved in the story.

A beautiful looking game with an intense story. Gameplay is a little much to understand for a beginner but characters were fun and exciting. Unfortunately, despite the praise it was given for taking steps at being more inclusive towards the LGBT community, I have to say the representation was underwhelming for a gay man like myself. It took me until my third playthrough to find the only man in the game I could date playing as a male and even then I was underwhelmed; All that considered, the romance isn't the key focus of the game by any means, so it still gets a full rating from me.

So far it's been a fantastic game. The gameplay has enough gameplay additions to the series to give it a bigger edge. Great graphics in both handled and on TV.It's great to be able to go down and actually walk around the battlefields, a little like Valkyria Chronicles, as well as the traditions grid based movement system. Battles are now more than a handdul of people but whole armies which makes it feel more epic.Storyline starts very much the tradition tropes but soon escalates into something epic indeed.Overall a great game for the Switch.

Three Houses is a good strategy game, if you're looking for something to scratch an "XCOM" esque itch. The characters are generic archetypes but there's enough variety for interactions with them to still be entertaining. Each battle and is spaced out with a "Hub world" here you do more mundane things like fish etc. Small touches that provide a nice distraction from the meat of the game but nothing more. This is also where you get most of that character development.Give it a go!

20.10.2019

The game is split up into 3 different stories that you can choose to play plus a secret 4th story that I wouldn't have known about if Google didn't tell me.It's your typical fire emblem turn based battle gameplay with a persona esque - day system where you can improve your friendships with teammates on days you're not battling to give yourself boosts in battle. The graphics are really good but fit a certain style that may not be to everyone's tastes But fun stories, gameplay and charactets

i've been wanting to buy this game for a while but had been looking for a cheap price, when i saw argos selling it for much less than the standard £50-60 i finally made the purchase. i'm absolutely in love with the game, the characters are so likeable, the choice between the three houses is great (blue lions is my favourite) and the amount of replay ability makes this game great value for money. it's definitely one of the best fire emblem games in the franchise, everyone should play it :)
