At the time of writing I only have a few hours put into the game, but as a fan of both the Warriors series + spinoffs and Fire Emblem, I feel I've played enough to judge this particular title. I put it off for quite a while knowing I would eventually get a Switch (did not want the N3DS version), was quite hesitant when I did get a Switch since I've heard absolutely nothing about the game since it was released (usually a bad sign). If you've played a Warriors game before (Dynasty Warriors, Warriors Orochi, Hyrule Warriors, One Piece Pirate Warriors...The list goes on...) then ultimately you're getting that again but with a Fire Emblem twist. If you disliked previous Warriors games then this isn't going to change your mind, the Fire Emblem addition not doing enough to really change the core gameplay of mashing buttons to kill hundreds of enemies in seconds.Fire Emblem Warriors is the second Nintendo licenced Warriors game, Hyrule Warriors being the first and honestly, I think it's quite a step up in terms of how well the Fire Emblem specific mechanics have been put into the Dynasty Warriors formula. With Hyrule Warriors the only Zelda specific gameplay features, aside from aesthetics, that were put in and stood out (as far as I can remember) were the implementation of items such as the hookshot and larger boss encounters such as Dodongo. Not that I didn't enjoy Hyrule Warriors, I very much did, but I feel Fire Emblem has brought more to the game to make it feel a bit more unique, maybe Fire Emblem's strategy gameplay mechanics lending itself better to a game like this.Firstly, the story: it's basically a fan fic with the sole purpose of getting a bunch of characters who should never be able to meet (because they're all from various and often massively different time periods) interacting with each other. It's not totally awful, it's not literary genius, it just does its job without offending. The small references to the games are there, such as """Marth""" showing up in a mask, Frederick wanting to test people and eat bears. Again, I'm a few hours in, but I can tell the story will be littered with this fan service...And I'm fine with that.Much like Hyrule Warriors with Lana, we get a couple of Fire Emblem Warriors original characters (do not steal) to help push the story along. They're alright, fun to play as, decent design, shame we'll never see them outside of this title. And the aesthetics. Of course Fire Emblem characters from multiple different titles are here, so you're probably going to come across at least one character you liked. I'm personally happy that Lyn finally got a bit of recognition being the protagonist of the first Western released (and my first played) FE game, seeing as Smash Bros refuses to include her...So far FE:W seems very 'FE:Awakening' focused which would make sense given its worldwide popularity but as I said, I've only put a few hours in so far, that could very likely change. The first notable mechanic specific to this Warriors release is the implementation of the 'weapon triangle' that features prominently in Fire Emblem. Swords beat axes, axes beat lances, lances beat swords. You'll do more or less (or default) damage to an enemy depending on what weapons the two of you are using. This has got me switching between characters a lot more than I did in Hyrule Warriors where nothing like this existed, a change I like since I would otherwise just pick my favourite and never even try the other characters. This also extends to other 'units' such as the Pegasus knights being weak against ranged attacks, cavalry units being good against heavily armoured/shielded foes. As I stated originally, the core "mash button" gameplay is still there, but it feels fresh actually putting a slither of thought into an encounter, switching to another character who has a weapon advantage.Another mechanic is bonding, where characters increase their relationships the more they interact to further increase their effectiveness when you (here comes another well implemented mechanic) pair them together in order to gain various effects such as an occasional auto block, extra attack and double special attack (where both characters in the 'pair' will use their special together). Again, it introduces a small amount of thought to what is an otherwise mindless series as you try to make a pair that compliment each other on the field so you're rarely at a disadvantage.Yet another mechanic: you can now command certain units to 'go there' or 'attack that' at any time during a battle by using the pause screen map. It's simple, quick to do and it mimics the way it's done in the main Fire Emblem titles as perfectly as they can for a real time battle system. At the very least it's a lot more engaging when I can command a unit to go and defend a fort rather than having to do everything myself, where in other Warriors titles your allies would do pretty much what they want and what they want to do is very rarely useful. The 'equipment' is notably from Fire Emblem as well. Using Hyrule Warriors again as an example (being they're both the Nintendo licenced games), weapons would be unique to a character, sometimes making it a bit annoying when I kept getting new weapons for characters I wasn't fond of.The system here is basically the same as in the main Fire Emblem titles. Aside from unique weapons (such as Chrom's falchon) you'll basically get generic weapons such as 'bronze sword' or 'iron axe' that you can equip to any character that can use them. Sure, the aesthetics of each character having unique weapons would have been nice, but at least it's easier to equip characters since gear is shared, not to mention it simply being yet another little nod to the FE series this is based on.And our 'conditional bonus item'. Hyrule Warriors it was Gold Skulltula's, this time around it's our lovely travelling merchant Anna who sets up shop somewhere on the map when you've fulfilled certain requirements to give you a special item. There's likely a lot more I'm forgetting about unique to this particular game, but otherwise we've got all the standard things we expect from a Warriors game these days:- Character leveling/skill trees- Special attacks- Side missions (these exist in all Warriors games...But again, it feels a bit more 'Fire Emblem' this time around)- Lots of mindless button mashingConclusion / TLDR:It is "just another Warriors game", but I feel this one in particular may be among my favourites, possibly even my overall favourite since they've so well blended two franchises I love.Definitely give this a try if you're a Warriors fan and have even a remote interest in Fire Emblem. If you're a Fire Emblem fan and haven't played a Warriors title, you could do much worse than this being your first one...(like, really, at all costs stay away from Dynasty Warriors 9). If you like both, just buy it.

I've been a big fan of the Fire Emblem series since the Gameboy Advance and have played every release since then, putting in literally hundreds of hours across all of the games. I also love hack n slash games such as Diablo, Devil May Cry and God of War (and, of course the Dynasty Warriors games) so getting this was a no-brainer.The gameplay is mainly button bashing to defeat the hundreds of enemies on-screen and complete the missions (the same as the DW games) but there is an element of strategy here too as the weapon triangle from the more recent FE games has returned meaning you have to plan who you use from your convoy in order to defeat certain enemies or the effects of the chosen character may not do the right damage as it would with another. There's also levelling, skill trees, weapon and item upgrades etc. so this can be considered as a bit of an RPG in that respect. This game is so much fun! You can play this either solo or slip out the Joycons and play splitscreen 2 player, which is an excellent bonus. On the maps you can also easily change between the different difficulty levels for each mission (using L or R) so you can jump in and try it on the harder settings without having to create a new save. Both docked and in handheld mode this game looks absolutely gorgeous! Such bright, bold colours and sharp, detailed graphics make this easily one of (if not, the) best looking games I've seen so far on the Nintendo Switch. The story is a bit of a letdown but is a good way to link all of the characters from the series together, the dialogue is cheesy but still is what we all love about the series.I decided to get the Limited Edition as I am a bit of a collector (I already have the Fates and Echoes Limited Editions for the 3DS) and the package is fantastic. It includes a 3-CD soundtrack in a very well presented fold-out case and also about 20 or so postcards which has some incredible artwork of each of the main characters featured in the game (shame we didn't get the poster like in other regions, but never mind!).All in all, this is one fantastic game that has even exceeded my high expectations and one which I can see myself getting engrossed in for months to come (especially with all of the upcoming DLCs coming soon). It might not be for everyone (it is a combat heavy game, so if strategy is more your thing, then maybe try before you buy). Easily the best game I've played on the Switch since Breath of the Wild.

Straight out of the box it's apparent with this game that attention has been given to make a smooth and fast gameplay experience. When I compare this to other "Warriors" games it is obvious that the Switch has been made to be able to handle HD graphics with ease! This is actually the first Fire Emblem game I have played and I am not disappointed. I'm aware that this isn't the same as traditional Fire Emblem games but still it has left me wanting to explore further. The game starts with a relatively small cast and in no time at all that cast has grown by quite a lot. The characters are all voice acted well and there's a mechanism in game that allows you to increase the bond between characters which unlocks dialogue and also makes them better in combat together. There are a ton of weapons and they can be sold or broken apart to improve other weapons to a degree. You can also upgrade your skills to increase your combos by using materials gathered from missions. Missions can be redone as many times as required to either level up or get material. Some missions also contain items to collect to unlock other game modes. The sounds of the game are also a very high quality and once you've encountered a price of music you can replay it through an unlock menu. I'm not sure how the music matches up to previous Fire Emblem games but it certainly fits the game in this one.In my opinion the only issue with this game is that it could get a little repetitive however there is so much to unlock that I don't see this as a big issue. I'm currently over 10 hours in and having paid £39 for this game I easily foresee this game being over 40 hours of play which for myself ticks the value box of less that a pound spent per hour!

Brilliant game. If you enjoyed Hyrule Warriors then this is very similar, except with your favorite Fire Emblem characters.I actually enjoy the Nintendo versions more than the original Dynasty Warriors because it's involving my favourite games in a different form of gameplay. The game involves the characters from the 3DS games 'Awakening' and 'Fates' and their worlds along with 2 new characters / protagonists who you choose as your main to play through the story.I've played about 8 hours of it so far and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm nowhere near completing it as there's so much replay-ability for each level. This is due to being able to play the level in easy, medium and hard and also requiring drops from mobs to level up your character's abilities (you can only get some drops on certain levels/maps.I would still say Hyrule Warrirors is slightly better...but this could be my biased to the series (although i do also love Fire Emblem). They're both worth the money.I am however pretty annoyed that the price for the special edition has dropped £15 since I bought it (got it on release), obviously Amazon must have got a massive batch or the game has not sold as much as intended, but hey ho - luck of the draw I suppose.

Great entry into the Warriors series especially those new to the genre. This version allows you to balance the graphics or performance but it chugs along at a great speed.Looking at the game fully Warriors allows for you to take control of various Fire Emblem characters throughout the ages, each battle can take up to 4 heroes with you. Before you head into battle the player can instruct the computer heroes to specific areas much like how the fire emblem games play out. When you then start the battle your computer controlled characters will follow the planned strategy, it doesn't work overly well but gives a level of control to the frantic action. When in battle you can swamp to any of the chosen heroes quickly, you need to balance your team because the rock paper scissors mechanic which adds some depth to the frantic button bashing.Overall the game is a solid effort and enjoyable, but battles become repetitive and characters will frantically dash about repeating the same combos to clear the enemy.

Nintendo keeps smashing it out of the park. Yet another high quality release for the Switch. One of the best decisions the big N made recently was relaxing their stance on the use of their IP’s. This led to the excellent, if not a little silly, Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U and most recently of course Mario + Rabbids on Switch.Fire Emblem Warriors offers an intense blend of hack and slash that the Warriors series is known for, but also offers some great tactical elements in keeping with the Fire Emblem series. Presentation is very nice, and the option to choose a higher frame rate alongside a slightly lesser resolution or vice versa is a great idea. I personally chose frame rate over resolution.Whilst the story is very silly, seeing characters from all eras of the Fire Emblem series on the battlefield together is strangely satisfying. My only gripe with this game is the timing. What with it releasing a week before Odyssey, it really is going to be a 1 week wonder.

A Dynasty Warriors style hack n slash game with elements of strategy from the Fire Emblem series.Personally I prefer to play the game in handheld mode, but it looks better on the TV obviously. The art cards are a nice added bonus I suppose althoughthe main reason I purchased this limited edition was for the game and for the soundtrack cd.I know most people would choose Hyrule Warrior's over this game but the Fire Emblem seriesin my eyes deserves more recognition as most people (myself included) know little about the franchise.I have fond memories of playing Dynasty warrior's 3 on PlayStation 2 and Fire Emblem on Gameboy Advanceso to get a new warrior's style game on the switch is worth it forold and new fans alikethe only negative for me is that the game in long plays can get repetitive easily and is better in short sessions.4/5 Stars for the Game but 5/5 stars for Amazons delivery.

Fantastic game! I know there has been negativity from some people about the character roster but to be honest there are already do many characters that I can't deploy all the ones I want already! Game flows smoothly and looks great. Objectives are varied, and there are strategic elements where you deploy your AI units to hit specific targets. The AI controlled units are good, they rack up the kills and do what you tell them to. Co op mode is 2 player split screen and is a lot of fun, you can switch between quality and performance mode for a faster frame rate if you feel the game is struggling, even in co op performance runs smoothly.

Definitely worth the price! I reckon this may sell out in a few years, 'new' Nintendo games are rare and less printed. If you want this I recommend buying it, otherwise I feel like this price will rise. Saves you spending much more for the switch version, ofcourse graphic quality is lowered so run on 3ds but it's same game and looks and is enjoyable to play on. Excellent for price. I've played a lot of fire emblem and it's different gameplay to the main games but still very very fun!

Nicely packaged if a little light for a special edition. I would have preferred if Nintendo had stuck to the Amiibo & Game SE as with the WiiU Why? This game has it's own FE Amiibo and some older amiibo work too But this was sold with some Cards & CD's. While these are nice in their own way they feel a bit out of place here.Decent game i liked what i've seen so far and look forward to getting into it more.

Looks amazing, plays really well docked and in hand held mode. Can't stop playing it! Can't say much for the collectors bits as I just got it for the box but the CD is really nice. But the game is definitely a 5 star game, fire emblem and warriors go really well together! Don't let people get you at the characters available, there is enough variety and they are all fun to play. Good game!

4.3.2020

Game is very similar to Dynasty Warriors or other Warriors games, main story is on the shorter side (around 10 hours) but there's a lot more content afterwards, and for this price, it's a must-have for your 3ds collection. Very satisfying combat and engaging gameplay, 100% worth it.If you're looking for an action game for your 3ds and/or are a fan of Fire Emblem, get this now.

21.10.2017

Awesome game,so much detail and incredible features not to mention action packed battles and missions! Far better than Hyrule Warrirors so far in my opinion, very very enjoyable. We are playing split screen and loving it,at some points the FPS does drop in Split screen but I'd say this is only really about 10% of the time and hasn't affected our experience at all!

25.10.2017

Complete anime trash but I love it. The plot makes no sense, the voice acting is meh, and as a Fire Emblem fan the character lineup is forgettable, but the gameplay is really fun. I'm having a blast. Just don't set your expectations too high going into this if you're a long-time FE fan.

25.6.2020

I had this for the 3DS and pulled the trigger for the Switch. Graphics is enhanced, of course. Gameplay is top notch. One would log around 60 to 70 hours of gameplay for the basic completion. But for the completionist, the replayability is excellent.
