You will be in one of two camps, those of you that will have never tried/played an F1 game before and those like me that have purchased each of the previous 3 years versions. For those of you that are new to F1 games then go right ahead and purchase this game as it offers lots of content including career, online and the new "classic" mode where you can race with f1 cars from the good old days in the 1980's. In Career you basically start as a rookie for one of the low end teams and you take part in a full season, along the way you will get targets to meet and ideally beat your team mate and become the no.1 driver, you get car upgrades throughout the season and indeed may be offered a contract from another team to move either immediately or at the end of the season. While there are other single player modes the main two other areas are online which includes co-op championship where you can literally team up with a friend in the same team and battle it out for a full season (personally one of my favorite modes). Online you can either join a lobby or set up your own with a variety of settings from track, distance, weather, assists, rules and indeed whether or not you want to qualify or just race. It all works seamlessly and the menus are easy to navigate.Perhaps the most anticipated area of f1 2013 is the classic mode, although i must warn you that the full classic mode is ONLY included with the full classic edition of the game which was available as a pre-order only. So if you purchase this version (only version available now) it will only come with 1980's content, if you want the full classic content then you can purchase it separately as a DLC. Personally i feel this is just a money making scam and would have preferred Codemasters (who make the game) to include everything in the one game, at the very least they should have kept the "full classic edition" on sale rather than removing it from sale on day one and expect everyone who buys it subsequently to fork out for the extra content. Having got that off my chest for now i want to say a little about the standard 1980s classic content that is included with this standard edition. You get two extra old school tracks, Circuit De Jerez (which is where they test f1 cars at the start of each season in spain) and Brands Hatch which is just epic and reminds you of what a proper old school track is all about. Included in the 1980s content are legendary drivers such as Nigel Mansell and many others and also the cars to match from Ferrari, Williams and also lotus. The 1980s content is suppose to give you a sneak peak at what else is on offer should you want to buy the DLC of the full classic content but for someone who isn't that interested in the past and only wants the present then the 1980s content should suffice. Now i want to talk about the career and indeed online from the perspective of someone who owns and has played each of the past 3 outings. While the graphics and audio are better for the most part career mode is identical to last year with very little innovation. One of the biggest problems with past outings has been the AI drivers who showed little intelligence and coupled to that a trigger happy penalty system that would love nothing more than to give you a penalty for something that an AI driver created, while i can confirm the AI drivers are and drive with more intelligence i can also confirm that the penalty system is still far to trigger happy and by that i mean you can still be hit from behind and given a penalty for blocking even though you were braking for a slow corner. It's worth pointing out for those of you that had last years game that the AI are also far more aggressive and are more willing to challenge you and overtake you in the corners, not just with you but they also now scrap with each other! So rather than 23 other cars vs you, it's more like 24 vs 24 cars. There are still corner cutting issues where you can be gifted a straight penalty for apparently corner cutting even though you followed the exact line of the AI in front and they didn't get anything. There are some good improvements however from last year, you can now save mid-session which is something I've been asking for since the 2010 edition especially when you're doing a full race weekend and distance and all of a sudden need to rush out for some reason, they have also added some new cut scenes of you getting into the car when you start in the garage. Car setup wise it's exactly the same as last year with by and large the same setups working for this year. Generally i would say cars handle more accurately to what you would expect but at the same time are harder to control especially due to the large amount of wheel spin you now get off the line and in low gears. I myself use Manuel gears and need to feather the throttle a lot more than i did last year. Tyres have also been updated and look more realistic as they wear away, there are no tyre delaminations like we've seen this season in real life but be in no doubt the tyre in the game do wear out quicker than last year. DRS (drag reduction system) is now limited to DRS areas during qualifying and not the whole lap which i think is better so now everyone is limited to using it around certain areas.PROS: Better than ever graphics and audio with the game-play (racing) feeling silky smooth, cars handle like they should, updated driver line up, Computer controller AI are vastly improved from last year and will race you and push you to the limits of your capability, the ability to save mid session is a HUGE bonus and those who played last years game will appreciate this the most, 1980s classic content may be limited but offers good value and gives a good insight to how they look and perform on trackCONS: As fun as career is with the improved AI it's basically a carbon copy of last years career mode, destruction of the cars is the same, penalty system still fails to detect who caused the collision and blames you regardless although it's only fair to say the AI can get penalized too (albeit a rarity), tyre wear is off the chart, already online is full of retarded people who try and ram you off the track at the first turn rather than having a proper good natured race, lag between players from different geographical locations leads a synchronization glitch where on some players screens you may have hit someone while on yours you were clear, AI can sometimes go unrealistically longer on a set of tyres, limited classic content with the standard edition so if you want the full package be prepared to fork out for the DLC. No next generation version coming so you'll have to wait till F1 2014 for that!VERDICT: Personally i would have liked to see more innovation and change as otherwise what's the point to a new game if by and large it's the same as last year and when you take into account how much money games are these days (i paid £39.99 for this standard edition from a high street retailer), so when you factor in how much has been ported from the previous years game you realize that the £40 you've spent doesn't get you much in the way of new content besides the 80's classic stuff. A friend of mine plays F1 on PC with a wheel and although he's just as nuts as i am regarding f1 he has decided not to bother getting this version and wait till next year and i can partly understand why, certainly as a returning customer from 2012 there is little reason why you would upgrade to this years version unless you specifically wanted this years to add to your collection (as i do) or this is your first time playing an f1 game.If you are new to f1 games then i FULLY RECOMMEND this game to you, yet if you've previously bought last years version then unless you specifically want the game i would wait till next years "next generation" version as there is quite a bit of recycled content. Alternatively you could wait for the price to drop making this game better value which is sure to happen given time. On a side note in general games like this that come out year after year tend to suffer from recycled material making seasoned players less likely to buy them every year, my final verdict and recommendation is if you are new to f1 games or didn't get last years game but maybe got 2010 or 2011 then this would be a good choice! Definitely the best F1 game to date but i do question the speed at which they are moving!RECOMMENDED RACER!!!

I'll get it out of the way at the start- Ayrton Senna is not in F1 2013. Whilst it is a disappointment, it was not possible for Codemasters to get Senna into the classic content for the game this year for licencing reasons... and the same goes for classic McLarens too.Right, now that's out of the way...F1 2013 is pretty much what you'd expect (if you've played F1 2012)- an evolution over last year's game instead of a wholesale change. The handling is very much the same for the 2013 cars- just a continuation of what worked well last year- and I will say now that if you are new to F1 games, you will find it difficult to start with. The same game modes are all there- Multiplayer (exactly the same as 2012),Co-Op Championship, Time Trial and Grand Prix mode is back! So you can create a custom season instead of just a single race (as in 2012). Champions Mode has evolved into Scenario Mode- exactly the same principal only there's a lot more challenges- yes, some are quite fun but once you've completed them, you won't bother doing them again. All the same modes apply in F1 Classics, which is this year's game's big new feature because without it, this is just F1 2012 with a new paint job. It is truly magnificent though! 5 cars from the 1980s from Williams, Ferrari and Lotus and 12 from the 90s (if you have the Classic Edition or extra DLC). 3 from Williams, 3 from Ferrari, including Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill's title-winning cars. In addition, each car has a unique sound, handling and is meticulously recreated. There's also plenty of top drivers although the combinations are a bit odd. For some reason, Jody Scheckter is in a 1999 Ferrari (?). Alain Prost is also in a 1999 Williams and David Coulthard in a 92' Williams. Apart from that, there is no fault with the classic side of F1 2013. Four tracks are featured as well, Jerez, Brands Hatch, Imola and Estoril- all are very quick, fun circuits (although Jerez is quite tricky in my opinion). Furthermore, the Classic Cars CAN be raced on modern tracks and 2013 cars on classic tracks. Classic cars are also available for use in Multiplayer but you cannot mix-and-match car eras. And with voice over from the mighty Murray Walker, F1 Classics is truly brilliant to the point that it is just about its own game, bolted on to the 2013 offering and an ode to golden era of Formula 1 racing.I think about now is the point I run over some improvements and poor points about the game:The Good:- Penalty System can be turned off (hooray), or set to corner cutting only (hooray) and in Multiplayer too!- Handling hasn't varied too much- F1 Classics is superb- Shinier graphics- No more race objectives in Multiplayer- More creative variety of helmet designs- Just a generally well-rounded and more complete game- Tyre scaling has returned (hooray)- Mid-Race/session saves are in a Codemasters F1 game for the first time- and can be used in any game mode (apart from multiplayer obviously)- Scenarios can be completed online in Co-op- New AI difficulty between Professional and Legend (Expert)The Bad:- Time Attack is still in the game- Career has not changed since F1 2012- Very little change between F1 2012 and 2013 in terms of the modern content- Young Driver Test is tedious and dull (but useful if this is your first F1 game)This game pays great homage to the heritage of F1 and excellently recreates the dynamism of the 2013 season and is at its heart an evolution of F1 2012 with the addition of gems from Formula 1's long history.F1 2013 is more of the same but also a positive bridge between current-gen and the inevitable first next-generation offering next year....

Before I start this review, I need to say that I have only used "time trial" mode in Codemaster F1 simulation software, I have never tried any racing. So my comments only relate to the "time trial" mode. The main reason I have just bought F1 2013 is because it has a unique extra feature, which is the inclusion of five 1980 F1 cars (two normally aspirated car and three turbo cars), and two extra tracks for them to run on (Brands Hatch and Jerez). The 1980 cars can also be run on the current tracks, and the 2013 cars can be run on the extra 1980 tracks (the 1980 cars and 2013 cars can't be raced together). Also, as I have an Xbox 360,so I can't buy F1 2015 as the only Xbox version is for the Xbox One.I read all the Amazon reviews for F1 2013 before I bought it, and most of them were very positive. I already have F1 2010 (bought in 2010) which I think is superb. I also bought F1 2011 (back in 2011), but was very disappointed with it as it was severely dumbed-down compared with the original from 2010 (F1 2011 allows too much corner cutting and has a lot more chassis roll in corners, which seems to be impossible to fully control). The reason I bought F1 2011 back then was because it had some extra tracks, and because 2011 was the first year for DRS ("drag reduction system" which gives the ability to reduce the upper rear wing angle on the straights), and KERS ("kinetic energy recovery system" which recovers energy from rear wheel braking). Both systems are still used on F1 cars.Regarding my current purchase of F1 2013, I have been "driving" a 1980 Williams FW07 with a normally aspirated engine, a Cosworth DFV. The torque spread from the DFV compared with modern F1 cars is phenomenal. The real Williams FW07 was a ground-effect car (using under-body wings and side-skirts). It copied features from Lotus 78 and 79 ground-effect cars which pioneered the side-skirt system in F1 (ground-effect cars were banned by new regulations in 1983 as there were some severe accidents when the side-skirts failed). If the Codemaster simulation is accurate, then the down-force is comparable to that on current F1 cars. The FW07 is very fast, very interesting to drive and very enjoyable. It has a raw feel and controllability that modern cars seem to lack. Driving around Brands hatch using "cockpit view" takes some getting used to, but is exhilarating!Alan Jones won the real 1980 GP in the Williams FW07 at Brands Hatch. It's a fantastic circuit to "drive" round, and I've managed to get below the current (real) lap record set by Nigel Mansell in 1986 in a Williams FW11-Honda turbo. I suspect that the Codemaster 1980 Williams FW07 uses the 2013 tyre model, otherwise breaking the 1986 turbo lap record would be impossible.Another really good feature of the DVD is that it includes onboard video footage of Anthony Davidson driving a lap of each circuit, with his very helpful commentaries.I have tried some of the 2013 cars and it does now seem easily possible to control body roll (as with F1 2010). The cars' chassis handling seems similar to F1 2010, which I am happy with. One feature I have big problems with is that (unlike with 2010), if the cars are driven using "cockpit view", the rear view mirrors obscure the position of the corner apex relative to the tyre. In other words, the view of the "corner clipping" is obscured, which is crazy! This may not be Codemasters' fault if the mirrors on the real cars do partially obscure the tyres from driver vision, but I find that hard to believe.

I think that this is the most complete formula one game that we have ever seen. Visually the game looks better than ever before and the cars look even better. The main positive point is the new "F1 Classics" mode which allows you to drive a few of the cars from the 1980s. Whilst there is only a limited selection they are great fun and are a great addition to the game. Personally I don't think that you need to go and spend £20 more on the classic edition as the 1980s content is plenty for me.The new game has also seen the menus restyled and reorganised. This looks much better than the 2012 version but i can still not work out why they got rid of the paddock and the interviews post race in the career mode. This is probably the only thing they have gone backwards on since their series began. The young driver test also has been extended with more challenges and tasks and it is now possible to join Lotus from the beginning if you get mostly gold medals in the young driver test. Handling in my opinion is much improved and finally the option to turn penalties off (apart from corner cutting) has been enabled meaning that you can now have a somewhat more violent race if you don't like any particular driver! Also there is a new AI opponent setting. There is now an expert setting which is in between professional and legend. I think this is great as in the 2012 game i was to fast for professional but way to slow for legendary. this is that is exactly what this game is apart from the classics. A little improvement from the game before, enhancing lots of little things to add to the experience. The game is great for seasoned players and the beginners alike which is something i feel that codemasters have been striving to do. The young driver test really helps you to get to grips with the cars and get used to the game in general which is something that many other games have seamed to miss out on. Codemasters have also continued to develop their weather system which is at a very high standard and frankly something I think that cannot be matched by any other racing game. Another thing is that you don't need a racing wheel to be fast you can easily play it on the pad.The last few series of the game haven't seen to many major improvements and as I said earlier i think that the paddock was a great feature that they got rid of. I think that maybe they should have really developed this aspect of the game to capture both the on and off track action before adding more modes such as the classics. I think that to be able to walk around the paddock and take interviews from the passing media is something that would really bring the game to life and immerse you into the game. However that is just my opinion. I think that its a great game and definitely worth buying. It captures the on track action perfectly and is a very accurate representation of the sport Formula One.

Formula 1 as a sport is vastly complex. The physical properties of the machines that we love to see go racing are only fully understood by a select few. Yet Codemasters have done a superb job with emulating how the cars look and feel to drive, and made the game extremely fun to play.Graphically the game has seen a slight improvement since 2012, with colours seeming deeper and sharp edges looking cleaner. The audio has also been improved with the 'spit' sound of changing gear wonderfully integrated as well as the roar of the engines sounding better. The handling is where this game excels. Gone is the exaggerated understeer of 2012, and in its place is a much more refined system that rewards both aggressive and smooth driving styles. The consequences of the former, however, play a huge part in the outcomes of races as tyre wear makes a bigger impact this year. With Pirelli tyres wearing away quickly in this season's real-world F1, Codemasters have tried to make gamers think about how they use their tyres in races and punish those that tend to drive flat out for the entire race, something that isn't possible in real-world F1. Players now have to think about how strategy, setup and driving style will affect the life of their tyres, which will drastically affect their finishing position. The game requires thought, skill and patience. The AI also seem to be better, as they seem more intelligent and can see gaps and actually go for them on a more consistent basis. This year's game also sees the introduction of the new classic mode, which brings in four classic tracks (if you have DLC, something that isn't convenient). Brands Hatch is brilliantly fun to drive around, with a short lap and fast apexes. Estoril is similar, with fast and winding corners that make up a brilliant first sector, with Jerez and Imola adding to the fun as well. The number of cars and drivers from the 1980s and 90s in unfortunately limited, with the headline non-addition of Ayrton Senna. But this doesn't take away the thrills of driving the powerful turbo cars of the 1980s that demand the driver to hang on for dear life when exiting corners. What's more, you can drive modern cars around classic tracks, and vice versa.Negatives would include an unchanged career mode and season challenge, as well as issues with online lobbies. It seems that people without DLC cannot join a lobby hosted by someone with DLC, regardless of whether you intend to race DLC tracks or not. There are several bugs as well, with safety cars and lapped cars, pit-lane problems and re-occurrence of the four-second lag. But aside from these problems, the game has definitely improved this year, adding the tactical side of modern F1, and the fun of classic cars and tracks. A must purchase for any racing game fan.

Superb game, clearly outpaces the others. I couldn't wait to try the classics content, the cars are a nightmare to handle but you get the hang of it, Brands Hatch is so easy, yet provides true combative racing as cars can run together across the whole lap, Jerez the home of winter testing is anti- clockwise so can be slightly difficult, a true drivers track with an odd left cornered chicane that can catch you out quite easily! As for the nineties content I have only got the cars for it, the scream of the V10's is annoying but the cars aren't that different to handle then the modern ones (I'm quite partial to the Damon Hill Tital winning Williams). The modern cars due to the Pirelli tyres wear quite easily, and the fuel can run out before the finish if you are not careful, which brings you closer to being an actual F1 driver, the braking and turning abilities are 1000000% better than 2012, as I had to resort to auto-braking on that game, now on this one I can go back to my Kobayashi style driving. The graphics (if you have a good TV) are brilliant, but the let down is that the after race scenes are the same and is a far cry from the 2010 drivers conference style after race scene, where you could actually see the other drivers faces! Another good addition is the scenario modes for normal and classic, replacing champions mode, these are longer and incorporate different events a driver will have to face in their career.Overall a nice step up from the occasionally drab 2012 game.P.S The Australian grand prix is always a right mash up at the start of a season, be it retirements or driver clashes, as the AI now like to fight you and other AI for position!!!

This is a game that has all the necessary ingredients to be one of my all time favourite racing games. New cars, old cars, new tracks, old tracks. Scenarios that replicate my all time favourite moments in F1 history. Young drivers tests to earn you a quick start in career mode, amazing graphics and atmosphere. Simply put the whole Sh'Bang into an F1 game. However, and it's a very big however, this is a very challenging game. I feel personally that the steering in this game is a big issue as it almost feels like you're handling a truck in the corners, simply put that if you're gonna go to a fast corner, you'll almost always end up sliding off Diego immense amounts of understeer.I use an analogue steering wheel controller so my car setup is normally more oversteer because I'm used to feeling like you're over the edge in performance, but this game seems to always punish me for going too fast in the corners. It's formula 1 for crying out loud of course I'm meant to go fast! Anyways though I suggest that if you're starting out in this series that you should consider purchasing F1 2011 just to draw your own opinions, then perhaps consider purchasing this title. But if you're already a die hard fan if the series, then this game is a must have.

This is by far the best, and most complete f1 game to date. classic tracks like imola, and brands hatch. classic drivers like coulthard, schumacher, and mansell. classic cars with very distinct sounds and characteristics. The sounds of the cars racing open spaces like silverstone, and suzuka, or the echo of the cars tearing through the streets of monaco, and under the bridge. fantastic sounds and sights from every circuit and every car. All of the 2013 season, cars, drivers, and tracks are included. race.net offers people new online challenges, as well as a great career mode there are also scenario modes and proving grounds. so far I have found the AI of the other cars to be very good, also the weather simulation is exellent. I have played this game with the standard ps3 controller and have no problems controlling the cars accurately, although there is a bit of a learning curve for the first hour becoming familiar with the controls. All in all I just cant find fault with this game at all, actually it's the only thing to get me off gt6 for a long time. I am not a big fan of Monaco race track but this game brings it to life so much that you can't help smiling as you race round. This game is brilliant.

As the title suggests, this is another very good attempt by good 'ol Codemasters to recreate F1 in your living room. Many improvements and tweaks can be seen and it's all for the better. For example, I have found that this years AI much more challenging as I am racing much harder to retain positions and reclaiming them. The tyre wear simulation plays a much larger factor (since it has played a much larger role in the real sport), which I think was a very good idea because not only does it add another depth of authenticity, it also makes race strategy even the more important and so compliments intelligent racing. The classic cars that you get in the standard edition are very nice and the tracks likewise. In conclusion,if you liked the previous three attempts, you'll love this. If you were expecting a complete revamp of the F1 simulator (more of a balance between sim and arcade really) by Codemasters, then don't go for it. Maybe rFactor on the pc?

This for me is the best f1 game since about 2001/2002 game with the green cover i think.Great engine sounds and better realistic tyre wear as well as the 4 extra tracks like San Marino and Estoril which are sorely missed from the f1 calendar. It was good driving around San Marino as i used to get into the top 2 on most occassions but struggling for a top 10 finish now which is probably to the realism compared to back then. But overall its a very good game and deciding what order to do the races in and including the bonus tracks as part of the made up calender season is just super cool too..Would love to see bonus tracks again in future games as 2014 didnt have them.2015 is the first game i nevergot as i heard it had no multiplayer no safety car and had a few glitches on certain tracks so i do plan on buying the 2016 edition though. But yeah if you want a great game get this one with the 4 bonus tracks ....

My only dislike now is tyres on races that you do more laps in the 25% of the race bracket the tyres dont last i find to compete i have to add another stop and you will have to drive like a mad man posessed to get in the points the only other option is to snail around the track get lapped and come in last it does seem all the cars vary the McClaren IS AWESOME the sound is amazing from the cockpit but the tyres are still shocking ive led races stuck to the race line drove slowly to hold up the chacing pack in so called clean air and still the tyres dont last one thing i would say is dont be far away from the pit lane when your tyres do go OR YOUVE HAD IT

so late writing this review but when i heard they were bringing this out i thought how can they improve on 2012 well they did!! this game is awesome graphics are gorgeous driving physics are much better feels as though you are actually going round bends rather than on an arcade rail, theres so much to do in this game time trials scenario mode full grand prix etc and also classic F1 cars where you can race cars on some of the older circuits or present day circuits i absolutely love this game cant wait to see what the next gen version will be like on the ps4 see you on the grid !!

28.9.2016

Excellent game, with PC style graphics, sound and visuals, the handling is brilliant but not over sensitive. However, there is a steep learning curve, in which you must select past difficult challenges in the beginning of the game to be selected for one of the teams within the game. Not exactly pick up and play arcade driving but simulation. Think Pro Evolution than Fifa. This however should not put you off. Five full stars.

.The F1 2013 (xbox360) is a lot more fun with the addition of the classic cars . The classic cars slide around a lot more than the modern cars which makes it a lot more realistic to play. The graphics are same as 2012 but this is expected as must be hard making changes to a game based on real life motor sport. Don't get me wrong its still a fun game to play especially if your like me and follow F1.10/10

Formula 1 2013. Sadly I can not review the game as it's a Christmas pressie for my Husband ! I suspect he'll have loads of fun with it and so will I laughing as he collides in to the usual corners at Monaco! He has always enjoyed these games and the reviews helped me to chose it. I am very happy with the seller, who got the game to me quickly and well packaged. Thank you.
