This is my first ever Epson printer and it has quite a lot of pros and cons so you really need to think carefully is this the right printer for you. Disclaimer, all of my previous printers have been from Canon and this replaces my very old Canon MG6250 A4 printer which lasted nearly 9 years! I really loved that printer since I could get 5 sets of inks for it for less than £20 on Amazon and those inks would last years! Plus it never broke down during the years I used it which is a miracle these days when printers tend to die quickly. So for me, it was a very big decision to switch to Epson from Canon and I did a lot of research on what printer would be the best suited for me since I'm a photographer too.And I have to say that now after using this Epson printer for half a year it has some big pros and cons and it might not be for everyone. Here are my pros and cons for you:PROS:-A3 printing is a brilliant feature for occasional printing-The printer supports XXL-inks so the inks will last much longer-This model is old enough to have lots of cheap third-party ink options on Amazon (like 2 sets of 3rd party ink cost £20 vs. 1 set of Epson that would cost nearly £50)-It has a scanner which works well and sends files directly to your computer-Wifi printing and scanning works 98% of the time without hiccups if you use Mac-Impressively small physical size (most A4 printers out there are the same size as this one)-Print quality is great, can’t complain (and this comes from someone who is a photographer)-Duplex printing is possible from the main tray and works as it shouldCONS:-The rear feeder doesn’t seem to support duplex printing at all-Whenever you use the rear feeder you can only insert one (1) paper at the time (applies all paper sizes inc. A3)-You literally have to wait for the printer to tell you when to insert paper to rear feeder. So you just cannot preload one sheet and then click print (this is frustrating if you need to print a lot of prints from the rear feeder)-This is a personal taste thing but I’m not a fan of “floppy” top lid of the scanner. I would much more prefer it to be one solid piece of plastic. Basically, when you lift the scanner lid it bends to two parts (see the photo). I always feel I might easily break the lid when using a scanner.-You always have to have to manually pull out the “resting paper lid” at the front of the printer out before you can print anything. With my previous Canon I could just close the front lid and next time I printed something the printer would automatically open it. That was super convenient and hassle-free since this paper holder lid at the front on this printer does protrude quite far and it’s doesn’t look aesthetically pleasing either.-Talking about that resting paper lid it must always be pulled out fully before you can do any printing. Sometimes I have wondered why it’s not printing only to learn that I had not fully pulled it out from the printer. And we might be talking about the 1-inch difference here!-Every time you add paper to the main tray you have to confirm to the printer that you did that. Not a big deal but my previous Canon printer never minded or complained when I filled the main tray.-The overall build of the printer feels quite cheap and plastic, and the display and its menus are like from 90s cell phones. But it all works just fine - no touch screen luxuries here!-Taking about the buttons I wish two of the most used buttons on this printer were more distinctive to the eye. On this Epson, there are two very similar-looking buttons at the far right that I constantly keep mixing up (a square with a triangle and square with a line). Very often the printer asks you to press one of these to either cancel or continue with printing and I honestly hate that I have to double-check each time I'm not about to press the wrong button. And it certainly doesn't help that the LCD-display on this printer is very in low resolution - those two buttons do look very much the same on that display. Making one of these buttons red and the other green would have solved this problem.-The printer can sometimes have hiccups with printing over wifi and require a reboot but 98% of the time it works beautifully.-This will most likely not be a concern to many of you but the main tray can only fit A4 size papers, US Letter is not supported (for US Letter size paper you must use the rear feeder)-Last but not least the printer is very noisy (especially when doing duplex) unless you have tuned the silent printing option on.SUMMARY:I have now used this printer for half a year on a Mac/iPad/iPhone and after some few early hiccups with WiFi (which were fixed by the software update), it has been working just fine ever since. This Epson printer definitely isn't the best printer out there but I think it’s a pretty good compromise in terms of price and value if you really want to have the option to do occasional A3 prints. I honestly don’t think you can find a cheaper A3 printer than this because most A3 size printers start at £180 and up. And this printer is impressively small, I mean most A4 printers out there are about the same size as this one. So if you need that occasional support for A3 printing without having to dedicate one full table for a printer itself, this might be a good printer for you.My biggest complaints are again the fact that rear feeder at the back can only handle one (1) sheet of paper at the time. So if you want to do a lot of A3 size prints (or photographic prints) then this isn’t really your ideal printer since all that requires you to feed the papers to the printer one at the time.To me, the main reason why I got this Epson Expression Premium XP-900 was the duplex support, scanner, A3 printing option for occasional use, cheap inks and its small size. As a photographer, I really did a lot of research towards all of the best printers out there and I felt this printer offered the best value for the price and so far I have been very happy with the purchase. Even though this all meant that I had to give up on some of the nice and convenient features my previous printer used to have. What I will say is that if you do NOT need that A3 option on a printer then stay away from this printer. I think all of the compromises Epson has done with this printer are done at the cost of having that A3 printing feature. So if you don’t use that feature then there are plenty of way better A4 size printers out there that will serve you better and offer move features and value for your money. This printer is only a good for those who really want to have an all-in-one printer with an occasional option to print some A3 content without having to spend hundreds of pounds for a massively large printer.

The Epson XP-900 has a lot of features packed into a small body. There are some compromises to be had to get it into this size but for this price and the things you can do in one machine, its worth it.This printer has an A4 scanner and prints A4 and photographs as most printers do and has duplex printing too. But it can also print on CD/DVD and will print A3 if you need to. All this in a printer no bigger than a standard A4 desk printer.Connectivity is by USB or Wi Fi and there are several Wi Fi options although I only use it connected to my home network. Setup was easy and I had it up and running pretty quickly.Photo printing is good and there is an SD card slot and USB if you want to printdirectly without using a computer. To fit A3 printing in a printer this small means that you have to feed the paper in from a rear feeder and you can only print one sheet at a time, so if you do a lot of A3 printing this may not be the printer for you. But if like me you only print A3 occasionally then it's worth that small hassle to keep the size of the printer down. You can print any size in the rear tray including photos, so if you don't want to swap out the paper in the A4 tray for the odd photo, this is useful.Printing CDs is one thing I still need from a printer and this printer does this as easily as any other printer I have owned. The CD tray is stored under the printer and is easy to access when needed. The software that comes with a printer is often as important as the printer itself. Other makes I have had seem to have dumbed down their software over the years with many of the useful features being removed in place of easy to use and fairly useless features being added. This Epson though has all the functionality that I have been missing and the software is still easy to use. It even has an A5 booklet feature when duplexing. Something that I had on my previous make of printer but had not seen on Epson's before. There is no touch screen and all the panels and trays have to been moved manually but I prefer this approach and it probably keeps the cost of the printer down considering all its features. So if you want a printer that has both CD and occasional A3 printing in a small form factor machine then this will fit the bill.

I've had several Epson printers and have found them to be good machines. This printer/scanner/copier was bought to replace a printer of a different brand, which was really excellent, but sadly died a noble death after several years. This Epson is quite good, but not perfect. It prints well, but seems to use more ink than I expected. Quality is good, but again, not as good as previous machine. We have also found the scanner a bit tricky and although our previous scanner was an Epson, the user interface has changed and is less easy to use. I like the adjustable, colour mini screen, that gives instructions -eg. for changing ink cartridge, for refilling paper. Can't remember where the information was,but somewhere in the description of the product or in the instructions, it said that the printer does not support automatic double-sided prints, but in fact it does - a bonus that we discovered by accident. It would be useful to update all information to make this clear, as it's much better than having to manually place the paper back in the tray (the right way round and in the right order) and print the back pages. Definitely pleased to know you can print double-sided! On the whole, this is a good machine. It's hard when comparing with a previous machine that was so good, but that was a "printer only" and this is a combined unit, meaning only one box on the desk. It's also wireless and prints on A3 paper, so I'm very pleased with that!

As the title - this thing is generally ok. Prints decent prints, does what it's supposed to do. But my God, was it a royal pain the proverbial to set up!! Forget about using the install disc, because that's just a joke. It wouldn't work on my laptop, and wouldn't work on my partner's one either. So, one turns to the on-line help options. That's a joke too, and I guess I wasted about half a day faffing around with that. Getting hold of any actual "help" from a human being wasn't happening either.I was on the point of putting the wretched thing back in the box and returning it when (and I have no idea how), the necessary download appeared and I was able to set it up. Just for context,I do know a little bit about IT generally. If you don't, and have the same experience as I had. good luck!I bought it as a recommendation from Which?, based on running costs and overall quality. Subsequently they advised against a similar multi-cartridge machine from Epson noting that it would be horrendously expensive to run in terms of printer ink. It's too early yet for me to comment on that, but it's something you might want to research carefully.Best of luck.

This is an excellent photo printer that prints on all sizes of paper up to and including A3. The printer is relatively compact for an A3 printer and comes complete with the five printer cartridges, mains cable, instructions and software CD ROM. Outline setup instructions are provided in the enclosed documentation with detailed instructions available online. Initial setup includes fitting the ink cartridges and then the printer enters setupmode that takes about seven minutes. I was then able to connect the printer to my wireless network. After downloading some software from Epson I was able to add the printer in Apple Mac preferences. I was then able to start printing documents and photographs.Multiple sheets of A4 can be loaded into the front tray and single sheets of A3 when prompted into the rear feed tray. I recommend paper of 120g/m2 for A3 printing of photographs as a minimum paper weight. Copying can be copied out from the printer front panel and scanning using the provided Epson Scan software. I'm very happy with the photo printing quality on A3 which is the main use to which I will be putting this printer.

Writing this review from shock and relief the b..... thing works, including the scanner. The only drama was Hermes delivering to the wrong address after paying extra for quick delivery.Set up with USB connection to Macbook Pro and then 'wifi connection' on printer screen through Apple Airport. Although the laptop could see the printer had to persevere somewhat to get it to connect by wifi in Airport utility. The reason for this review is mainly because my A3 colour prints on Epson Heavy Matte paper [which is cheap enough] were a little underwhelming lacking the wow factor of full gloss finish but when compared with A3 prints of same photos from a high street printer the clarity judged byindividual hairs on the head of a portrait was as good.At £95 I am very happy with this printer but now have to decide on Office World cartridges for £13 or Epson at £80 for the XL multipack. Any advice? Will aftermarket inks clog or damage injector heads long term?

The printer was bought specifically to print on cardstock, as a budget option. I have successfully printed up to 400gsm card stock BUT each sheet needs to be fed in individually and it cannot print both sides, you have to manually turn it. You cannot leave card loaded in the special rear feed slot, you have to wait each time for the printer to prompt you to insert it so an A5 folded to A6 card with simple print took about 2 minutes and had to be watched over continuously. For a few dozen cards this is fine but for a lot, pay more and get a professional one. Cartridges that came with it last a surprisingly long time. Am going to try 3rd party cartridges soon and hope they work as a new Epsom firmware update is blocking access. If i had to use Epson ink, I would not buy this printer, they are ridiculous prices. If it offers to update itself, just say no or you may have a bricked printer.

Not keen on having to pull out grey printing tray to print especially as its wifi forget to do it and machine will not print ! might be just me as last printer had automatic printing tray ready to print! Front panel when pulled down shows separate trays for A4 and smaller prints both trays clearly marked. The bottom cover when down ready to print reveals USB connection and SD card slot. setting up is very easy and straightforward apart from epson connect.print quality is excellent on A4 and smaller prints, the scanner works well in black and white and Colour, the LCD screen looks small but is ok for the many things this machine can do, Like Calendars, cards, colouring in photo, etcoverall for the money its a great machine for printing and for photos, much better than I thought it would be. The box was damaged but the printer was unscathed! This is a great printer for the money!

Printing for most part on a par with replaced Canon Pixmar (speed/quality). Noted that, when printing envelopes or card, the leading edge of paper tends to get smudged with ink.Poor features: Need to keep output tray extended increases an already large footprint - difficult to stow on an extending computer desk shelf. Most annoying feature: at least on Windows 10, the printer's software forces default to Cassette 1 when attempting to print envelopes, for no good reason. Had to Google this to find out this egregious feature and how to over-ride.Usual complaints: cost of OEM inks - large capacity refills cost more than printer itself, although Epson's own prices competitive with discount sellers. Finally not able to find a dedicated stand alone ink-jet printer so forced to buy a 3-in-1. Doubt I will use scanner as I already have a satisfactory, if ancient, Epson Perfection V100.

Received the printer today. Set it up in no time at all thanks to step by step instructions provided by Epsoms website details of which are provided in the instruction manual. I purchased for the idea of being able to print from smart devices and it works absolutely fine with that. The print quality is good. Printing is a bit slow when using colour and I tried to print out a photo collage which only came out half printed but maybe I haven't got the knack for it yet or starter inks arent sufficient. It's definitely not compact, you do need space for it but for the price the 3 in 1 aspect plus ability to connect seamlessly to your wifi and print from mobile devices is worth the smallsacrifices.

I bought the Expression Premium XP-900 a few months ago replacing a previous Epsom A3 printer which had served me for over 10 years. I was happily surprised that it did more than replace the original because it had a built in scanner. The overall “foot print” saving of the prior machine/s is worth a mention because of this purchase. Not only that the dual method of paper feeding allows flexibility that reduces time when printing to different types of media.I use the wireless method of connection which is excellent and allows any device, (given permission), the facility to print directly, without having to fire-up the main PC. As long as there is a power supply away you go.

No problems with the printer so far, though I've not yet tried inserting non-Epson ink. (We hope we didn't accept Epson's condition of only using their own ink - the installation questions didn't match what we'd been warned about - but we won't' find out until the time comes, which is a nuisance ...) I do find it annoying to have to raise the flap with the display on it in order to access the out tray, as you cannot read the display with the flap up. It's also not easy to see what the various buttons do (everything is black), so I've had to label those I need most. It's also annoying to have to wait until told to before loading a single sheet in the rear tray!

Very good printer as recommended in Which. Both colour and black printing precise and colours accurate. Expecting photo printing to be very good. Easy to set up including clever print alignment, and load paper and ink. Just watch out that the CD procedure is out of synch with what you'll see on the printer screen. Internals seem strong and likely to last but star lost for fragile hard external plastics and wobbly screen mounting unit. It claims to have a small footprint but i thought it quite large compared to our last two HP devices, so check the dimensions. Regards A3, only buy if like me you only want to print occasional single sided.

This is everything Which said it would be. Simple to install, great colour rendition, crisp resolution, and it does everything well - scan, print and copy. Can't fault it up to now. The only thing that I can't comment on is reliability as I've only had it a short time. One thing I would criticise is the front fascia layout. Itr looks great when closed but is a combination of drawers and flaps that need to be opened in the correct order to ready the unit to,print, and closed in the correct order as they foul easch other if you get the sequence wrong. Overall I am very pleased with my new printer.

Having had printers in the past that say they would do wireless printing and printing from mobile devices that never actually did what they were supposed to do, I was very reluctant to buy another printer. I decided to go for an all in one and I’m so glad I chose this one. It was easy to set up, connect to my WiFi and then printing was a doddle.I’ve got 2 happy boys who I can now keep busy with colouring pattern, they don’t yet realise I can now print the school work being sent during the lock down ?All in all, fab little printer. I would defo recommend.
