The reviews on this item are pretty mixed. However I decided to give it a go, as the price is incredibly interesting (it's usually sold at more than twice this price). The filter comes with an european plug, so it needs an adapter for UK sockets. Also the filter media will be needed, as this filter comes only with the canister, the rough sponge and the fine sponge. Ceramic bio rings and porous material are quite cheap though. The design and the efficiency are superb. The filter does not prime automatically but this is not a big problem as this Eheim needs to be cleaned only every three to five months, depending on how stocked is your tank. While operating it doesn't emit noise and the flow is reasonably powerful.Indeed for my 40l tank it was too strong, and unsuitable for my sand substrate and my live stock, which doesn't appreciate strong flow; all I needed to do to slow the flow was to put replace the filter's six blades impeller with a three blades impeller and direct the spraybar in an appropriate way.As this Eheim filter is the successor of an old Boyu EF-05, no need to say that the results in terms of water clarity are more than satisfying. I will soon buy a double tap connector for the intake tubing, that will help the maintenance/priming of the unit when needed. To summarise, I recommended to buy this filter for:• price: at 30£, this costs less than half of the RRP value. Coming without media, you will need to buy it separately if not already in your possession. However this still makes it convenient. Same matter for the EU adaptor, that costs around 1£.• no noise: I'm using this filter less than two meters away from the bed were I sleep and it's barely audible.• efficiency: the filter clears and moves the water efficiently. If however you own a small tank (for example a 10gal/40l tank) you might find the flow too strong, depending on the preferences of your livestock or on how heavily planted is your tank and this might force you to modify the filter, like I did using a three blades impeller.• brand: Eheim is a well-known and well-reputated company, standing at this price this beats any Chinese filter out there, that might save you 10-20£ but that won't be helpful and efficient in the long run. All kind of accessories are also available thanks to the popularity of Eheim products. The bad points are - according to my opinion and to the use I do of the unit - imperceptible, however I reckon useful to include them in my review:• no automatic priming. Easily remediable through the use of a double tap quick connector on the intake hose.• flow might be too strong for small tanks. I would not recommend it on tanks smaller than 10 gallons.• green tubing might be unpleasant for some people.• comes with an european plug and without media.

I bought this on recommendation, and at £30.98 delivered it was a complete bargain, despite being the basic (non PLUS) version. Everywhere else sells the basic version for £50+, and the PLUS version for £70+. I bought double tap connectors separately, as well as some extra media, and the total cost was only about £55~.Pros:- It is very quiet, which is compulsory for me as the tank it's used for is in my bedroom.- Very easy to set up, despite having somewhat confusing instructions (what's with all the pictures but no words?).- It's a very powerful little thing and the flow is perfect for my 2ft tank.- There are no baskets in the media section,so I can shove in whatever I want without being limited to what I can use or by space taken up by the plastic, as is the case with some other externals I've used.Cons:- The Eheim hoses and accessories are a bit of an eyesore, what with being green, but that was easily remedied by buying clear hosing and lily pipes.- As it was the basic version, it did not come with double connector taps, which although are not completely necessary, I preferred to have as it prevents me making a horrible mess when doing filter maintenance.- Again, as it was the basic version, the only media provided was one blue sponge, one white sponge and one carbon sponge, which isn't nearly enough to fill the basket. This was not a problem for me as I had plenty of ceramic rings, bioballs and sintered glass to fill it up with, as well as spare filter floss from my other tank, though I did also buy some extra sponges. All in all, I am very pleased with the Eheim 2213, and hope that it will last me the 20+ years that it has done for others.

To let other potential buyers know, this Eheim Classic 150 (2211) comes with 2 outlet pipes (Shepard's crook and spray bar), 1 inlet pipe, all tubing required, 1 coarse blue sponge and 1 white fine filter floss pad. You are going to need to buy extra filter media to fill it. I'd advise some ceramic media and extra sponges. I also bought two Eheim quick release double taps to facilitate easy removal of tubing from filter when cleaning the canister.Regarding the performance of the filter, this is the second one I have bought. I have another which is 5 years old and still working flawlessly. I have it running on a 30L freshwater aquarium and it is perfect for the role. The filter's flow, volume, media versatility, efficiency and quietness make it great, not to mention the build quality which is second to none. Importantly, there is no bypass of filter media on this filter if set up correctly with suitable media. This is due in part to the classic tried and tested design of the filter, with the water inlet being on the bottom rather than the top; as found in most other of the other external filter designs. The water rises up through the canister and is pumped back up to the tank via a whisper quiet pump at the top.The reputation of Eheim Classic filters is well deserved. Buy one, you won't be disappointed!!!

A great little external filter, virtually silent operation and very simple to set up and operate. It should be noted that the unit as supplied requires the inlet and outlet pipes to be connected direct to the filter body, i.e. it does not come with taps or couplings that enable the supply of water from the tank to be shut off for servicing or maintenance of the filter - I purchased 2 x Eheim AEH4004412 Double Tap Connectors 12mm which then provided a "dry break" facility on both pipes from the tank and made maintenance much less of a messy chore. These also enabled partial water changes to be easily accomplished as water can be siphoned straight from the inlet pipe a bucketful at a time simplyby operating the tap.You will also have to purchase extra filter media - it comes with a coarse gauze strainer and carbon filter pad, but no other media (because user's requirements will vary, I imagine). I used chain store ceramic balls / noodles for my freshwater tank. When considering the extra cost of these and the taps before I purchased, I still thought the total price for the unit and extras reasonable for a quality product and I'm very pleased - there are no leaks from any of the pipe joins, the taps don't drip, it's very quiet, it self primes once set up, and it's clean and easy to maintain.

After the most recent reviews I was expecting it to be the non-Plus model when it arrived. Still slightly disappointed when it arrived and it was the non-Plus version, so bought the extra taps for £10.25 each from Charterhouse Aquatics (cheapest I could see), and also got the 'Eheim Classic 250 Media Set' from there too (£24).Still less than buying the full all-in-one set, just not as much of a bargain :-) Watched loads of videos on Youtube as to how to set it up. Was worried about how to 'prime' it, but it couldn't have been simpler, a couple of sucks on one of the tubes and I could here water gurgling in to the canister.Plugged the European plug into a spare shaver plug I had and a bit of noise and a jet of water came out of the end of the hose.I'm running the filter alongside my existing in-tank filter that came with my Juwel Lido 120 tank for a week or so to let it bed in. (If anybody else has this tank/cabinet, note you'll need to raise the internal shelf a couple of inches to get the canister (with hosing) to fit. I simply used 4 small screws to make a new 'level' for the shelf to rest on).All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase, and I'm looking forward to taking out the ugly black internal filter next week, so we can see into the tank from that side of the room.

Well, what can I say? The most amazing filter I have ever used in my whole history of being in the Aquatic hobby (15years). The Eheim 2213 is powerful, quiet, super efficient and screams quality, it may be worth mentioning that this is the classic version made in Germany not China. It leaves the water crystal clear all the time and only needs the filters changing every 3 months. I must warn anyone who buys this filter from Amazon that it is a slight pain to set up since the instruction manual is to be honest, terrible! There are many websites which will show you how to set it up though so do not let this deter you. You can also if you wish (like I did)buy the mechanical and biological economy box which are small porous balls and ceramic rings (this allows beneficial bacteria to live in them making your filter very efficient at breaking down toxics etc) these go into the canister but this is not needed since you can have 5x course sponges and a fine wool filter instead. The other icing on the cake is that this filter is 30.00 quid! unbelievable price since these retail at 89.00 quid. All in all amazing filter don't dwell on it for this price just get it before they run out!

Very impressed with this filter, the Amazon supplied items seem to come with the plus extras which makes this a bargain, which even without is still great value as it's a very high quality filter, even though it might not have a high flow rate (but it is very low energy consumption - why buy the more expensive eheim ecco range???) of some filters it does have a huge media capacity which you can tailor to your exact needs as it all goes in one large removable basket, which to me makes it less of a fiddle than many to service.I'm not surprised these fly out of the door, 2yr warranty and a very proven design, and every spare part easily obtainable if you ever need, but I'm thinking it may run for years looking at the quality of it. Very, very pleased with my purchase, in fact, for a larger tank than 200L I'd suggest getting two of these rather than a single larger inferior make.6 years on and two of these running fine, only repair being one filter with a cracked impeller magnet so rattling, £15 ish replacement.

bought this filter last week. plugged it in and found that the outlet pipe was broken. i contacted to seller who with no problem, immediately sent a replacement part out to me, no hastle at all (ignoring the slight delay in which i couldn't use it). the filter has been up and running for half an hour now, and is already beginning to quieten down (meant to be silent but it takes time to become so). good filter, strong build. remarkably simple to use compared to most other external filters ive seen. only problem is i had to find a video on the internet of how to set it up, only thing that worried me was the fact you had to cut the pipe up yourself, which in the end was easy enough.the filter also comes with a European plug (shaver plug) in which you need an adaptor which cost a couple of quid. it also comes with no media, which isn't necessary to have but is nice to have if your a keen fish keeper, but is comes with sponges and a carbon pad. great filter, great service.

I've had this filter for over six months, and in that time it has run smoothly without a hitch. It is connected to a heavily planted dirted tropical tank, with a soil and clay substrate. I have set it up with Ehfimech and Substrat Pro, with coarse and fine filters between the layers. The box comes with a measure of instructions, although the literature on the net is both better and more useful.Although the filter comes with a decent length of pipe, there is a limit on the vertical height that it can pump the water. The pump is silent once it has been primed correctly: if you hear swooshing noises, then there is air in the filter. You can remove he air by tilting the filter and rocking it to-and-fro.There are good guides on troubleshooting noise issues on the net for these filters. After the initial priming, it recovered from power cycles and cleaning without fuss, and minimal effort.

EU plug with no UK adaptor supplied (Cost £5.00 to buy EU/UK 5A rated good quality mains adaptor), however it’s a good filter for 25 to 35 litre aquariums. Classic 150 is very quiet when running, keeps my 25 litre planted breeding aquariums water healthy, still provides an ok flow when approaching filter cleaning/maintenance window, and only had to clean it out every 4 to 6 weeks.Spray bar + intake strainer + pipework all work fine and built solid enough, however you will need to buy the various bio media ceramics as it only comes supplied with 1x coarse pad, 1x carbon pad & 1x fine filter pad. I’d also suggest buying some Ehiem Double Taps; as this makes life so much easier when cleaning Eheim Canister filters (Hence 4/5 review due to additional costs).Worth purchasing Eheim's External Prefilter intake strainer if you want to stretch the canister filter cleaning period further.

To start with, the manual is not really that helpful. Then you need to manually have to cut the hose to few parts to fit to your particular aquarium type/need. Priming is a bit of a pain if you never had external filter before but once you filled it up with water to the full and it's lower in the tank, it will eventually prime on itself. Shame about the manual on this part telling me to buy a priming device! Apart from that, it's really a nice stable filter with cheap price tag. Ideal though for bigger than 60 liters tank as the current is a bit strong. But i manage to use it in an axolotl tank with a little trick - putting it inside the breeding trap without the spray bar.My Axo swim alright with it as most of the current is being hold by the trap.

I love coffee. I hate bad coffee. I want to be able to have the good coffee I love whether or not I'm at the office, when traveling, on holiday or maybe mixing things up with a little camping down the Gower. This little beauty has paid for itself many times over. It's helped save money from terrible high street coffee shops, ruining the experience of my morning coffee and sucking money out of me on a daily basis..I have the coffee I love, it makes it perfect. It's fun to make - in the way that I also liked my morning coffee purchase routine.I bought a Keep Cup to make mine in so it still felt like a take away coffee though. I'd recommend doing that as well.Buy one, you will not be sorry.

when it comes to quietness i must say after having this classic eheim 2217 external filter for over a year now i have never had a filter this quiet,,,amazing,,,,i had fx5 then fx6 sold both due to my family complaining about the noise,,,then did some research and bought this 2217 classic ehiem and also bought a good cabient from IKEA and put polystrine everywhere inside the cabient then put my filter inside that cabient ,,now i can say the noise is 90% less,,and we all happy...also the cleaning of this filter is so simple and easy,,,,great stuff from ehiem,,,but their air pump was horrible and so noisy ,,

Basically as described, stop taps were not inclusive but available from the supplier - better if available with the main item. Item works fantastically well, assembly of parts very easy but could perhaps be improved if the return tube had a flexible section at point of entry into the aquarium.Cannot understand why a number of reviewers complained that it had a continental plug top fitted - less than 5 minutes was required to change to a UK standard plug top. Surely everyone is capable of changing a plug top.Very, very satisfied with my purchase.

still waiting for media to arrive as these are supplied with out as per description. Was a little disappointed to discover that the media basket has been damaged and this was not due to transport damage as box was completely un marked this was damaged at source have requested replacement part from the manufacturer but they have sent me one out and now filters on tank and running great. as for some people complaining about lack of taps hydroponic shops sell barbed taps at £2.50 each so still way cheaper then buying a plus model overall great
