I already owned two types of money belt: the kind you wear with a tape around your waste under your pants, and the kind that looks like a normal belt you wear through your belt loops. But when my boss asked me to carry thousands of dollars in cash on a three-week trip to several countries in Asia, and not to leave the cash in hotel safes, neither would do--the one was just too uncomfortable or impractical for wearing all day, every day (I have a bit of a paunch, and these types of belts end up riding right under my belly), while the other just didn't have the capacity for so much cash. This pouch easily accommodated my little stack of $100 bills, and had I wanted to I could have added my passport and some credit cards.I wore the pouch in the 4 o'clock position (on my right side and a bit to the rear) under my pants; one of the loops came up over my waistband, then folded down on the outside, where I slipped my belt through it to keep the pouch from falling down my pants leg. Even knowing the loop was there, I had a hard time seeing it in the mirror. There is one black loop and one brown loop; use the one that matches your belt, and let the other remain inside your pants. I wore this hidden pocket constantly for three weeks (we never ended up needing the cash), and I never even felt it at all except for those occasions I felt for it to make sure it was still there; it's that comfortable.I did not wear this through security in the USA, with their fancy imaging devices that have picked up my handkerchief in the past, but I did wear this through every other security screening I encountered at a variety of Asian airports. No matter whether I was screened by machine or frisked by hand, this pocket was never discovered at any of the checkpoints. In spite of the fact that the zipper seems metallic, I walked through metal detectors and detector wands passed over me that did not alert on the hidden pocket. Upon my return to the USA after three weeks of constant use, my hidden pocket shows no signs of wear other than a few creases.I would second the advice given in these reviews not to plan on accessing the contents of the pouch in public. I carried a smaller amount of cash in my wallet if I thought I'd use any. In the USA, I kept this pocket in my carry-on bag until I went through screening, then went into a restroom and locked myself in a toilet stall to put it on. The "narrow range of problems" for which I recommend this hidden pocket are those times when you need to discreetly carry a modest amount of currency (the legal amount of US dollars in $100 bills should be fine) or documents (e.g. passports or papers folded into a similar size) that you will not be accessing in public view.

We just returned from a mission's trip to Liberia, West Africa. I read a lot of reviews of different ways of carrying cash and passports safely and securely while maintaining some level of comfort. I settled on trying the Eagle Creek Travel Gear Hidden Pocket and ordered one. When I received it I tried it out and liked what I saw. I took it to one of our final mission trip meetings (11 of us were going) and others purchased this item as well. I personally ordered two more (one more for me and one for my wife). To make a long story short, I wore two Eagle Creek Hidden Pockets the entire two weeks we were in Liberia. In one I carried the gas and tip money for the team's travel and in the other I carried personal cash along with my passport. Both of the Hidden Pockets held up very well for the entire time. I used both loops through my belt and they were pretty much unnoticeable. These pockets were very comfortable and a number of times I panicked as the one with just the cash in it was hard to even feel when I reached for it.The size of the bag is perfect for money to be placed in it unfolded. After two weeks of wearing them the loops and bags are showing no significant signs of wear and held up well. I (we) experienced NO problems with the loops as some of the other reviewers reported. I highly recommend this product if you are searching for a functional, safe and comfortable means to carry valuables. What worked good for me was to carry my passport and bulk of my money in this hidden pocket. In my regular pocket I had a money clip with easy access to small amounts of money to spend while out in the markets. And in my wallet I had more money to easily access in case something was expensive and that way I could access a few larger bills without jeopardizing the bulk of my money which was always safely tucked under my pants in the hidden pocket. My wife wore skirts while in Liberia and wore a belt over her skirt and put the pocket on the belt. She then wore shirts over the top. This worked well for her. (Not sure what she did when she wore her scrubs in the medical clinic). For me...this product is a "no-brainer" and I would buy it again if the need arises.

Recently, I took a trip to the Philippines, and I was out and about in Manila and various parts of Bataan. I'd purchased this device as an attempt to foil some of the notorious pickpockets in that country, and it worked well at its purpose. I'd tried money belts and chest pouches both in the past, but found them either uncomfortable to wear or impractical in daily use. This hidden pocket solved all of these problems. I just looped in onto my belt and then tucked it into the front of my pants. When I needed to extract cash, I chose a discreet spot and then flipped the hidden pocket out of the front of my pants, which was easily done, as the loops were loose enough to allow rotation of the pocket (but not too loose).I think whether this were possible for you would depend on the type of belt you use with it, and, yes, a belt and a pair of normal pants or possibly shorts with belt loops are a must for use of this product, as well as the necessity of having pants with a bit of "give" in the waist (but not too much). I was walking around with about 15,000 pesos on my person on average, so this hidden pocket helped me secure this cash with ease. Of course, if criminals are more bold and want to hold you up (not sneak off with your cash from your back pocket), such a device as this is utterly useless. Then, I guess it becomes a judgment call as to what you'd care to do under the circumstances, and I offer no advice in that area.If there were a drawback to this pocket, it would be that it's not particularly well insulated from sweat, and, in a tropical climate, this can be an inconvenience at times. However, this was a minor point. I happily spent many pesos in the islands and never lost a sentimo's worth of cash. So, I would recommend this clever but simple device from personal experience.

I (like other reviewers) wasn't really thrilled about the idea of a money belt so I took a bit of a gamble on the Eagle Creek Hidden Pocket on my trip to South America. It was a fantastic investment. It is very discreet, and virtually invisible when tucked into your pants. I kept my passport and the bulk of my traveling money in it and it was very secure. I literally took it wherever I went.I would advise you to keep any money you need for the day in your pocket/traditional wallet because it can be a bit hard to retrieve the hidden pocket often especially if you have tighter pants on. Furthermore, I think you make yourself a bit of a target digging through a hidden pocket while paying for admission fees/souvenirs,etc. I mean, if you're constantly whipping out the hidden pocket, it's not really hidden is it?So definitely buy it for a way to keep your passport, boarding passes, cash, and any other small valuables safe and on your person. It is worth it to have the added security and the "out of sight, out of mind" peace of mind. However, if you are wanting something with a little easier access, you might consider going the money belt route instead.

I'll be honest, I just didn't want to wear a money belt during my travels to europe. I think they're stupid, albeit practical. This is a perfect alternative. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but there are two loops for hanging from your belt, one is black and other is brown (for different belt colors). For extra security, I always use both loops, since my shirt covers my belt anyway. The pocket hangs inside my pants along my hip. You can also position it to hang in front of one of your thighs, but I find this less comfortable. I use it to carry my passport, medical vaccination records, emergency cash (or excess cash, if you've just visited the ATM and don't want to have a lot of money in your standard wallet),and emergency credit cards. Basically, I only use my regular wallet for spending cash, my ATM card, and one credit card. If my wallet gets stolen I will still have identification, some cash, and at least one credit card.So anyway, buy this if you don't like the idea of the money belt. I'm a fan of this product.

For most travelers looking to avoid pickpockets, what you'll find at a luggage store are big things that strap either around your whole waste or around your neck. They're scratchy, ugly, uncomfortable, and don't stay put. Plus, a skilled pickpocket knows where to look for those and will make a snatch-and-grap attempt. This little guy, in contrast, just attaches to your belt and hides discreetly and comfortably out of the way. It's made of a very soft and lightweight material that makes me forget I'm wearing it.For best results, I recommend treating it like the vault. Carry a regular wallet too, and keep a small amount of cash in your normal wallet for buying coffee, souvenirs, or taxi rides. Then, when you need to "make a withdrawal from the vault," discreetly pull this out and do a quick exchange. As an added bonus, the Eagle Creek Hidden Pocket has room for some credit cards or id cards.

I used this for a 4 week trip across europe. Put our passports and some backup cash in it, hooked it to my belt, and put it inside my pants at the outside of my leg. Didn't bother me any, was a great way to keep the passports and documentation safe, and it stayed together perfectly. I had no problem with any frays or stitches like some others had.I did use a neck stash (http://amzn.com/B00004SR8Z) for my more frequently accessed items. Local money, rail pass, credit card, etc. I actually left it as long as it went (around my neck), and tucked it into my jeans. Someone would have had to have tried very hard to steal it. I also wore it as it is meant, around my neck at about chest height. It was perfectly comfortable, but very noticeable with a T-shirt. When I tucked it in my pants, it was hard to tell it was there. The two together were a perfect combo.

Just bought this for my trip to Spain. I was a bit worried about Spain overall, giving what i've read about the level of pickpocketers all around Spain. I came across this wallet, and despite what some people said and construction quality of this item, i decided to give it a try.I loved it. The quality is just fine, and it EASILY fits extra bills and any identification you need to carry (i.e. passports, credit cards, etc). Obviously, you can't load this thing up, but if you want to carry about some 50 notes and some passports and not worry about it, this is the item for you.If it's just filled with paper currency, it's easy to get in and out of you pants. It fits comfortably with both shorts and pants. This item helped me relax on my trip, and I kept all my valuables in there, including my girlfriends, so i didn't have to worry. :) 5/5.

This one replaced The Eagle Creek one I bought from LL Bean some years ago. Lots of travel and daily wear on the original before the zipper failed. I bought the original for travel in Europe and other places. I believe that it discourages common pick pockets, but I use it all the time. No bulky "old guy wad" in my back pocket. It slips beneath your waistband comfortably. It holds credit cards, regular money, other items such as insurance cards, , medical/emergency data, etc., yet you don't know its there. The straps are in two colors so you may use one that matches your slacks, helping it to blend in more.I ain't a guy that worries about that so I use both straps for extra security.I have owned Eagle Creek products for years.

I read a number of reviews on this item and although I will not be using it until my trip to Italy in March 2014, I feel I made a good choice!!! It appears well made and will be instrumental in keeping my cash safe while providing easy access when I need it. I read a review that suggested using BOTH loops being attached to your belt and I think that is a great idea. I have already tried it on and it seems to be just what I was looking for. My trip will be for two weeks and this item should certainly hold up for that amount of time. For the price, you cannot go wrong!!!!! Especially if it keeps your vacation spending money safe and insures you a good time instead of a tragedy if your pocket ispicked!!!!

I bought two of these for a recent trip to Europe - one for me & one for my husband. We both agree this is much more comfortable to wear than a money belt. You can slip it inside your pants on the side where there seems to be a little more room & not so obvious. You need to wear a belt to hook this on or I suppose you could use a large safety pin. We used both loops for extra security. If you position the straps near your pant belt loops, it is not obvious. Who cares anyway? Better safe than sorry. There is plenty of room for passports (my husband carried both our passports at times) cash & ATM card, etc.. It is well made & washable. I'm sure we will have these for years of travel.

After some trial and error, I was very happy with this pocket. I took it on a vacation in Ireland. I kept my passport and extra cash hidden in this pocket. At first I wore it hanging down in front of my thigh but that was comfortable when sitting, so for a couple of days I would move it sideways across my stomach. This was comfortable but bulky. Finally I moved it to the outside of my leg and this was perfect. I couldn't feel a thing. It didn't get in the way when I used the ladies room. It was easy to get to if I needed to remove money. It couldn't be seen under my jeans and I felt very secure. I'll always use this when traveling from now on. Highly recommend.

Used this exclusively when traveling. Peace of mind knowing that important documents, credit cards and cash were safely tucked away. Since other reviewers noted concern over the black and brown straps fraying and/or detaching, I added another strap which was sewn on for added security. The original straps on my Hidden Pocket however did not show any signs of stress or wear. Better safe than sorry. When using this "pocket" I found that planning ahead was necessary to pull out what was needed in private and not wait until cash, card or document was needed since it does take work to get it out and open. The Khaki material is durable and the zipper worked well.

Excellent product. Used it while in Brazil & Peru. I was never really in danger of being mugged but I felt much more secure with the item. It is very incognito as the black strap matched my black belt. Much better than a traditional money belt. The pouch was also large enough to barely fit a Samsung Galaxy S8+ phone without a case. Definitely would recommend. I used this in conjunction with a ankle wallet that I also bought on Amazon. Put some credit cards & money in both products just in case one of them was stolen, I would have a back up. I also wore this while going through the X-ray machines at the airport and it did not trigger any sensors.

Perfect for keeping things hidden! I took this on a shore excursion. The goofy pic shows me wearing it and you can’t tell it is there. I don’t have a belt but attached it to a belt loop and felt my money was secure. A little long when I sat down but it is designed to hold a passport so anything that size would be (I have short legs). You do have to have a belt loop or belt, but once I got it tucked in my shirt covered the attachment. You will want to keep some cash handy though because getting the cash out it will be obvious where it is. So you can keep passport / backup $ in this and get it out somewhere discreetly when you need it.
