My daughter is three-years-old and on the small side. This backpack is a great size for her. Most of the backpacks I come across are either too small or too large, but these seem perfectly designed for preschoolers. Most preschool bags are too small but this seems like an actual preschool size. You can't fit a big folder in it (almost can!), but it holds quite a bit of stuff. We don't use it for school because she is home-schooled but we use it for going out and she likes to play with it at home too.It is very well made and durable. The straps are padded and she has never complained of discomfort. It has a carry handle, a side mesh pocket for drinks, and a name tag on the inside for writing your child's name. The snout part of the bag unzips and acts as a front compartment. Of course there is also the main, large compartment as well. The bag is easily wiped clean and it has held up very well since I bought it. It is not waterproof. The bag contains a lot of whimsical details. The zippers have cute clouds with rainbows as the zipper pull tabs, the snout is polka-dotted, the bag has button eyes, ears that stick up, and best of all, it has a cute little horn that juts from its head. The colors are lovely. The bag is a minty color with pastel pink ears, and a bright yellow snout with pink nostrils. The horn is silver with minty-colored stripes. I love that Skip Hop Zoo products come with matching items that you can buy separately. If you want your child to be entirely fashionable, you can also buy a matching lunch bag, matching food containers, matching drink bottle, matching umbrella, and matching raincoat (maybe even other things). The only downside to this bag is that the large snout makes it resemble a hippo more than a unicorn. My daughter wore her backpack to church and almost every single person thought it was either a hippo or even a rhino (you think the horn would have given it away) and only one person realized it was a unicorn without me having to tell them so. Either way, it's cute and got a lot of compliments. I still haven't come across a cuter backpack than this and I love how feminine and soft it looks. My daughter absolutely loves it and I'm so glad I bought it for her.

I love this cute little back pack. My son is 1 and we use it to carry his daily supplies back and forth to daycare and as a substitute diaper bag. He likes the bright colors and he knows it's his bag. We get lots of compliments on it where ever we go. It's the perfect size for a toddler and the straps are adjustable. It's sturdy and well made, and though it's on the small side, it holds just the right amount of stuff, (which for us is a lot since I'm an over-packer anyway). The name-tag inside didn't bleed and run when I wrote my son's name on it like most fabric tags do. The front pocket is great for the things you need more frequently like kleenux, and small toys, and it has a loop you can hook your keys onto. The side pouch is the perfect fit for a sippy cup. I so glad I got this; I just ordered the matching lunchbox and if I'm half as happy with it as I am with this backpack I'll be really pleased. Two weeks after I posted this review, and after barely 2 months of use, the zipper for the main compartment broke. I was heartbroken. I searched everywhere for the receipt so I could call for a possible replacement, but no luck. I spent an hour trying to repair it, which to my amazement, I eventually did, but now I feel that it's fragile and I'm waiting for it to break again. So I wanted to add this warming. Do not over-pack and stretch the zipper, it's only plastic and will stretch and bend. Keep an eye on the teeth as you can see them separating and that is your warning of impending breakage.I know this is made for little kids, but if I was the maker of this product I think that I would use a metal zipper for the main compartment as they are stronger and can take a lot more abuse than a plastic one.I still love and would recommend this product, I'd just be a little more careful with it.It's now been 9 months since I repaired the zipper and I haven't had a single problem with it since then. And, we LOVE the lunch box just as much as the backpack.

We bought this backpack as part of our 1 1/2 year old son's Christmas present, along with the matching mini backpack harness and the rolling suitcase. I love the size of this backpack. While it's perfect for a toddler to carry, it is also big enough to fit all of the necessities in it. For instance, today we went out and brought our puppy bag with us (it's like our "diaper bag"). In it, we had 5-6 diapers, a travel pack of wipes, an entire outfit for our son (jeans, t-shirt, sweater, and socks), his security blanket, my cell phone, iPod, and wallet, and eventually, a bag of purchases from JCPenney's (a small stuffed animal and two shirts) and his empty sippy cup in it. Like I said, this bag fits way more than I thought it would! Aside from the size, I like that the colors on this are so bright and child-friendly. The bone-shaped zipper pulls are too cute, and our son loves the big orange nose and touchable ears! The inside even has a spot to write your child's name, if you choose. The side pocket seems a little useless for children though, unless you have a really skinny bottle or a small package of snacks to shove in there. We just use that pocket for my cell phone (a Rumor Touch) which fits perfectly. All-in-all, we're very glad we picked this backpack out, and as long as it's taken care of, I can see it lasting a few years, maybe even until our son starts pre-k and needs a backpack!

This is a super cute backpack! I love all the animals that the backpack comes in, especially the zebra, raccoon, penguin, bee, and giraffe. I generally try to keep things gender-neutral for my son... I can't stand all the footballs, baseballs, dinosaurs, cars, trucks, and airplanes that are plastered all over boys' products. There is a great selection of gender-neutral backpacks in this line, and they're all adorable. We ended up going with the giraffe, since both my husband and I liked it. Our son is too young (22 months) to have a preference in the animal character we bought, but he still loves this backpack. It's a little big for him in that when he carries it on his back it's almost as big as he is,but he still loves it and we keep it light enough to where it doesn't topple him over. It's been great for carrying stuff to daycare during the week and even when we go out on the weekend. It hasn't replaced his diaper bag, but he keeps a couple of toys/books in there that he wants.Overall, this is a product that I would recommend. It appears to be durable, although I should have thought about the light color of the giraffe print. The light cream color has already gotten dirty, but it seems like the material is easy enough to wipe clean.

This is a great little back pack for your toddler who is now walking and exploring the outdoors. My son is now at this stage and when he see's something he likes he tries to walk faster than he is able to and falls forward - This where the leash comes in handy!About the leash - seems a bit strange that it attaches at the base of the bag as when they fall it pulls their mid-section out and actually makes their head move towards the ground faster than it would normally ... Not good design decision at all. However, you can simply attach it to the handle at the top of the bag and its safe. MESSAGE TO MANUFACTURER - "make this change and you will sell more!" as if you read your reviews I'm not the only person that picked this up.Also to back up my statement, I have a Degree in, and work in Engineering so I understand mechanical movement. The bag compartment itself is adequate for a snack, drink, nappy, a few decanted wipes and car keys, wallet etc .... Perfect for short trip to the park or something like that.Still 5 stars as the lease problem can be solved easily.

I purchased this backpack to primarily use as my daughter's restaurant bag. She's 19mo and currently going through that phase where she will only stay seated for about 20 minutes before she needs entertained. I was tired of lugging my giant diaper bag with me to the restaurant, so everything I need fits nicely into this 'doggy bag'. The front zipper pocket holds three size 4 diapers, a mini container of play doh, along with several disposable bibs and placements in the mesh pocket. The bag is big enough to hold a (1) large set piece of the Ju Ju Be Be Set, in which I put all of her snacks and food (pouches, granola bars, etc.) and eating utensils; (2) a zippered pencil pouch for stickers, coloring pages, crayons and a small notebook, (3) a silicone bib , (4) a sleeved bib and (5) a huggies clutch N clean for refillable wipes. There's room to spare once everything is inside too.I foresee this bag getting plenty of use after the stage of toddlerhood too. Would be great as an overnight back for grandma's a car busy-bag for car trips.

The Skip Hop backpacks are incredibly cute, and have such a variety to choose from. They have one cup holder, which I would not do without, and one small pocket, besides for the main compartment. These are not school-sized backpacks. My toddlers each have one.I first use them for a diaper bag. Much better size for me than those ginormous whopper bags that can hold an entire box of diapers. They fit a few dipes, wipes, an outift, cup, changing pad, baby food. No problem for a baby day bag. When they start walking well, VOILA, you have the option to strap the diaper bag onto your child. I have heard people use something similar for twins, to help out. After that (or alternating with using it as a diaper bag),they work for an overnight bag, a little bag for THEM to pack with their special things for trips, and whatever.Con: Once these are dingy, there isn't much turning back. I have surface-washed my son's, which helped some. I wish I could machine wash it.

I absolutely love the Skip Hop Zoo backpacks! I purchased the dinosaur backpack for my son. His two cousins got the Butterfly and the Orange Cat. They're all adorable! I love the little details in how the zippers are different (leaves on the dinosaur, flowers for the butterfly, mice for the cat). My son loves carrying bags around which is why I got this. He's one and a half and he doesn't quite get the concept of carrying it on his back but he'll grow into it! Right now I really like it for minimizing what we bring with us. Its so nice not to always have to tote along his big diaper bag if we're just going on a quick outing closeby. I usually pack an extra outfit, a few diapers, wipes, and a cup.We went swimming yesterday and I was able to even fit my bathing suit in too. We might order some of the other matching Skip Hop stuff too (the lunch tote and cup) they even sell plates, bowls, and silverware! Very impressed with this company!

I absolutely love this product and so does my 3yr old. He loves it so much he even tries to wear it around the house and no longer wants to be in his pushchair- yippy!! It's small enough for him to carry on his back but big enough for me to put his wipes, small teddy and hat in it. The rein is a perfect size not too long not too short. And it's handy juice cup holder on the side is ideal for fruit shoot size drinks.I also really like the rein being attached at the bottom of the bag as its not in my son's way, some of the other products reins attached at the top and I couldn't help feel that it would annoy my son having somethin dangling around the back of his neck.I'd spent weeks trying tomake a final decision on which product would be the best and this product is definitely worth its money. I would recommend this to any parent that is desperate to give their child a little freedom whilst being able to keep them under control.

We found this backpack to be an excellent way of transitioning our son out of the diaper bag. With a 2nd child due our goal was to clear space out of the diaper bag in order to make room for all the things that are necessary for a newborn. Our son was about 2 years old and we were able to move a couple spare diapers/wipes, book or two, small toy, snack and sippy cup over to this bag. The best part of all was convincing him to carry it. Most times we don't need it but for those times you do it is nice to be able to let your own child carry his own weight. Now if I could just put him to work. The actual build quality of the bag seems to be very good and has thus far remained looking very clean. It gets used every week and carried/dragged by our 2 yr old son and has held up to the abuse nicely. It's been a great purchase and one I'm sure we'll try again when our daughter is a bit older and able to pick out her own favorite animal.

This backpack is a good size for toddlers. Be warned that it won't fit a folder or larger sized books for school, and it's really for fun for 1-4 year olds. My son is now 22 months and loves it and always asks to wear his backpack. We took it on a cruise and used it to hold a diaper and some wipes and a couple toys while we walked around the cruise ship. The distinct design always makes it easy to find when we set it on chairs and we usually took it to dinner with us too, so there would be toys/crayons,etc for him to play with. There's a little mesh side pocket that will hold a sippy cup easily and a smaller zipper pouch on the front (the green part with the orange nose)which has a mesh pocket inside that will hold smaller items.Overall the design is super cute, it's quite sturdy, even with a toddler handling it often, and I'm happy with the purchase. I would buy another one in one of the other cute animal designs, too!

This Dinosaur Skip Hop Zoo Pack is SUPER cute. I bought this for my nephew for his 1st birthday. My sister wanted a small backpack she could use as a diaperbag. This works perfect. I also bought the matching Skip Hop Zoo bottle with straw, which fits perfect in the little side pocket on this back pack. This is made of good quality. The material is thick, and durable. The front pocket is insulated, and perfect for a few snacks. When my nephew opened this as a present, he fell in love. He has an older brother and sister, who are both in school, and he is always wanting to drag around their backpacks. Now he has his own. He had to immediately put it on. He wore it for the rest of the day.It fits him great (he is big for his age). For those who are wondering, Yes....this backpack can be embroidered. We had his name put on the front pocket, and my sister get so many compliments on this bag. I highly recommend this product.

This rucksack is the cutest thing ever.. I bought it for my little boy once he started walking confidently and I wanted to give him more freedom and independence from the pram. He hadn’t developed that internal lesh yet at 18 months so walking on his own usually meant me chasing after him and trying to keep him alive till his second birthday. This little bag kept him safe on many occasions when he decided that he wanted to be Danny daring X from paw patrol and wanted to challenge a car to a duel. It also is pretty strong and on several attempts of deciding he was a jelly baby and had no upper body strength after a tantrum it actually was able to take his body weight when trying to get him to walking again.Once he was able to take instructions properly off came the lead and he was a happy little chap who liked the important role of carrying his own water bottle, wipes and a few nappies.

Simply gorgeous, I love it and I think the baby does too! I use it every day to send to Grandmas. This bag is the perfect size to accommodate lunch and dinner plus dessert and snacks for my 7 month old. However this is based on pouches or pots at the moment, for a bigger child you'd comfortably get a good packed lunch in. I don't know if kids still have flasks these days but if so you wouldn't fit one in with food too. It is insulated but I can't comment on that function yet as I haven't tested it.The clip strap is very handy too as I can attach it to her changing bag. It's very well made and looks of a high quality. It cleans well too and has a label inside for writing baby's name which would be handy to send to nursery.I'll be honest and say I bought this based on aesthetics but it doesn't disappoint on practicality too. I'm looking forward to getting the matching backpack too.

This backpack is perfect for my 3 yr old son. I got him the dog. He's in preschool and really only needs a change of clothes, extra pull ups/wipes, and his snack. All fit perfectly in this bag. A folder probably won't fit in it as mentioned by other reviewers. I put the 2 pull ups & wipes case in the outside pocket. Inside holds his extra clothes & a small lunch bag. I had purchased a "Cars" backpack at Target for him but it was too big and smelled awful. Even after a night outside turned inside out it still stinks. This one doesn't smell at all--it's phthalate, BPA, PVC free, too. And he loves it. And no one else in his class has it so no backpack confusion, unlike with the Cars backpack which another kid had.My only complaint is the outside bottle holder pouch--it has a drawstring type closure but nothing to actually tighten it so you have to knot it to keep it cinched.
