EDIT 19/08/2017:- We have had this PaddlePak for over 3 years now and I can confirm that it is still in perfect condition. My daughter claimed this bag as her own quite a while ago as she didn't want to wait while we ordered another one for her and then refused to pick a different bag when we tried to order one. Thankfully my son let her have this without too much upset as he had his clownfish bag which was his favourite. The PaddlePak is now used solely for swimming gear when we go swimming. We manage to fit her swimsuit, arm bands and a bath sheet sized towel in the bag with a little bit of squishing and despite doing this for a good couple of years now I can confirm that the stitching has withstood our over-packing of the bag as I'm pretty sure it isn't meant to hold that large a towel! My daughter loves her PaddlePak and as both her and my son have one each there is no fighting when we go swimming and they both look super cute wearing them on the way to the pool. I've updated to add a few photos of them wearing their bags to give an idea of their size and what they look like stuffed.Original Review:-I know that the backpack is primarily meant to be used for going swimming or to keep items dry in the rain but since this arrived my son is obsessed with it and uses it to carry all of his toys around the house from room to room. My son is a toddler and so cannot operate the roll top close or catch but I'm sure he'll work it out as he gets older. I love how bright the bag is and the little reflective strips and my son since discovering the little zip pouch in the tail is obsessed with this too (he can operate the zip fine by himself). The straps are nice and padded for little arms and shoulders although I wouldn't be putting anything too heavy in there but it is still nice from a comfort angle. I think I shall be purchasing another one of these but in a different design (so we can tell which bag is which) for my daughter when she gets older and possibly a few may end up on the Christmas list for nieces and nephews. A gorgeous little backpack that will get plenty of use swimming etc or just transporting toys from room to room!Previous EDIT 21/07/2014:-The bag has just been away on a camping trip with us and I can confirm that it more than handled the very wet rainy conditions as we were trying to unpack and re-pack the car as it had my son and daughters toys in which some were electronic but are still in perfect condition and working.Previous EDIT 28/06/2014:-We recently went away to a wedding over the weekend and my son took his paddlepak with him and filled it with his and his baby sisters toys. He loved carrying the toys around in his little fish bag and looked super cute doing so. He was really pleased with himself getting to help Mummy and Daddy by carrying his bag in and out of the hotel (and insisted on carrying it around with him over the weekend too). The bag more than handled the demands of a toddler (and other children who wanted a go of the bag too) and not only could we spot him from the brightness of the bag when he was off playing with the other children but it held everything we needed to keep him amused during the wedding and reception. A brilliant little bag that I would highly recommend.

This is a featherweight bag that is fully waterproof and suitable for a supervised infant to carry. There is a small green purse pocket visible attached below the bottom of the bag that has a plastic zip. Some cushioning is provided by a layer of orange webbing on the underside. I do wonder how durable and easy to clean this webbing will be on a beach vacation and with extended use.The first safety concern that I have is the very large clear plastic bag it arrived in. This is very appealing for a child to play with and of course extremely dangerous. There is a warning on the bag, but it ought to be clearer as a reminder to keep it out of children's reach.Secondly the manufacturers have obviouslyidentified themselves that the fastening buckle at the top is almost inviting to be looped and clipped around a child's neck, because they have attached a "don't do it" label. If the buckle had been positioned to the side or rear, it would have reduced the danger, but it seems aeshetics have been given precedence over a small level of risk. Even having a bag so attached to a small child raises some concerns for me. Maybe I am being overcautious but these are real issues. There are no sharp parts or bits that can be swallowed. The material is strong. The fastening buckle locks by pushing together. It needs gentle pressure on both sides to open, so it is easy to operate but will not open accidently.I am going to recommend this bag, provided that it is going to always be used with close supervision of the child when in use.

This backpack is great fun for children and well-thought out. It's made of strong rip-stop material, but is very lightweight, so that the children don't feel like they're carrying a big heavy rucksack. There's plenty room for a child's swimming costume, towel, and shampoo/shower gel too.But - as is often the case with Trunki products - it's the little extra things that make this better than the run-of-the-mill children's backpacks. The top opening/closing mechanism is ingeniously simple, and after a couple of goes, I think any child from 3ish upwards will be able to do it themselves. Also, the little clip fastener is a specially-loose one that makes it harder to nip a child's finger in it,and will also pull loose in case it gets put round someone's neck by accident. There's also another ingenious little neoprene pocket that doubles as a fairly-waterproof hidey-hole for pocket money or a little snack. The froggy character is just enough of an attraction for the kids, without it interfering with the backpack's main purpose, and my son loves it.There's plenty of adjustment in the straps, and I'd say this is suitable for any child from about 3 up to 8 or 9 (the straps will probably start to feel a bit short for older children). All in all, it's a great little pack that a little boy or girl froggy-fan will be delighted to wear on their back - and therefore it's one less thing for me to carry. Which is always welcome!

I'm impressed with this Trunki backpack. It's great fun for children and well-thought out. Plus it's made of strong rip-stop material, but is very lightweight at the same timeThere's plenty room for a child's swimming costume, towel, and shampoo/shower gel too. There are some really nice little features that mark it out from your standard kids backpack . The top opening/closing mechanism that makes the fish's mouth is ingeniously simple, and after a couple of goes, I think any child from around 3 upwards will be able to do it themselves. Also, the little clip fastener is a specially-loose one that makes it more difficult to nip a child's finger in it, and will also pull loose in case (for example)it gets put round someone's neck by accident. There's also another ingenious little neoprene pocket in its tail that doubles as a fairly-waterproof hidey-hole for pocket money or a little snack. The pufferfish character is just enough of an attraction for the kids, without it interfering with the backpack's main purpose, and my daughter loves it.There's plenty of adjustment in the straps, and I'd say this is suitable for any child from about 3 up to 8 or 9 (the straps will probably start to feel a bit short for older children). All in all, it's a great little pack that a little boy or girl fishy-fan will be delighted to wear on their back - and therefore it's one less thing for me to carry. These keep anything inside that is dry protected from any water outside, with their waterproof material and clever folding system to prevent water leaking in through the opening. They also keep any wet items inside secured away and prevent them leaking through and onto your dry back.Having both of these features makes this bag really useful in many situations. The most obvious for most will be as a swimming bag - and for this purpose it really is ideal. You can pack up your towel and swimming costume on the inside and there is even a little pocket for your pound coin for the locker (on Inky the Octopus it is up under the bag, between his tentacles on Spike the Pufferfish it is in his tail)and then when you have finished you can deposit your wet items into the bag and they won't get everything else damp on your journey home.We have also used Inky the Octopus and Spike the Pufferfish at LEGOLAND and the girls were able to keep their jumpers and our camera safe and sound in their bag - in fact everything in their bags came out bone dry, which is more than I can say for the contents of my handbag! These are a really stylish bags and have attracted lots of comments from the girls' friends who have ordered their own from the set and with so many different designs, they can all have their own individual style. Trunki have done it again! Great British design!

This fish faced backpack is both fun and functional and any little nipper will love it. It's water resistant and has reflective strips on the shoulder straps, along with a small zipped compartment in the fishes tail. There are reflective scales on the back of the backpack too which further add to the fishy feel of this child holdal whilst adding to the safety of your child too. The fish fins further add to the fishy look of the item and you'll find a small zipped compartment in the fishes tail which ideal for change or a locker key etc. etc.Shoulder straps are adjustable too but the best feature of all has to be the fish mouth opening of the main compartment. It really is genius and makes the bag look like a real fish, with a big, gaping, guppy like mouth of a bottom feeder. It is zip free but very secure and to close it, you simply roll it over three time and clip it shut. The clipping creates a kind of circular space through tension which gives the bag a fish faced finish which lends the bag real character - it's really very clever. The is also an area for you to right your litte ones name and details on in the inside of the bag and a small strap for hanging it on a hook too - no pun intended! To sum up, a cute, clever little backpack that any young child will love. Recommended!

Going swimming was always one of the greatest treats as a child; the smell of overpowering chlorine, the verruca bath, the unforgettable beauty of a used plaster floating around in the water, Needless to say, I keep away from the public baths nowadays, but this does not stop the next generation. Whilst I made do by putting my wet towel into an old Safeway's bag, today's tot has a better option in the form of `Trunki Paddlepak Child's Backpack'.This is the pink version of the `Trunki' and is therefore aimed at the female spectrum of the market (although this should not stop anyone in today's liberal parenting environment). It is a quality item that combines excellent form and function. At its core it is meant to be waterproof and keep what is outside dry from the inner moisture - and it does just this. The zip and flaps are of a high enough quality that they will survive playful rough housing. The look of the `Trunki' is also great - all pinks and purples. The fact that it looks like a funky fish only makes it more attractive. The `Trunki Paddlepak Child's Backpack' is the kind of equipment that will enhance a child's pleasure for swimming. It will be fun just to go to the beach and get to wear their bag. An excellent little extra for a child that loves to swim.

Our little chappie loves this bag. It's bright and cheery colours and design clearly appealing to his 2 year old sense of fun. As a parent, I like the high visibility that the bright yellow offers as well. The bag is a decent size, small enough for our toddler to wear on his back but big enough to carry a few favourite toys, a spare nappy or two and a change of top. The material is very light but feels durable and good quality.I am a little perplexed by one element of the design, namely the clip that does the bag up at its top. It's weird. pressing up against his neck. It almost looks like it has been designed to fit around the child's neck, this is obviously not the case and, indeed,Trunki are very clear that this is NOT how to use it. Fair enough, but the fact that it was deemed necessary to include this instruction show that the design is a bit odd and I do have visions of some less careful parents ignoring the instruction and nearly strangling their child by mistake. Wouldn't a zip, some Velcro or a popper or two have served just as well? It's not something that puts me off the product though, just an eyebrow raiser.Overall a decent product and one that I recommend.

This is a big hit with our daughter - it's a little big at the moment for her, but it does fit, and is very comfy. There's lots of room on the straps for her to grow into it.It's got a great capacity - perfect for a swimming/beach bag (this makes it sound a bit like we're making our daughter carry all her own stuff, I promise we're not!).There's a zipped pocket underneath the dangling tentacles. This is just big enough for a pack of raisins and some change for the lockers. It's Light weight but it's well made. There's a good clasp at the top- it would be very hard to get little fingers pinched in it. The tag on the arm can hold other things too. The roll-over fastening at top is secure really nicely designed and done,if a little hard for little ones to get the hang of. There's a place to write child's name on inside as well (an easy win). The taped seams inside definitely help stop leaking/dripping, we've already tested that (accidentally). There's a little hook between the arm straps to hang on a coat hook, plus two loops on the back (either side of the octopus face) to hang other things on. All-in-all it's very well equipped and both funky and practical.

When I was a kid we'd go to the local pool with our towel rolled up under our arms, with our trunks inside. When I got in to my teens we'd have a plastic bag on the handlebars - sadly one day the bag stuck in the spokes, I flew over and I've had a false front teeth ever since! So on to the Trunki backpack, which is a more elegant solution to carrying swimming stuff, with an excellent touch in that there is a dry pocket to carry wet stuff. So no worries about wet trunks making other clothes wet.Looks wise who woldn' want to carry this bag - it's bright and vibrant and my niece is totally in love with it.For the first time ever I have not had to carry the swimwear back home!Other touches I really like are the hook to put it on the back of a changing room door and also the straps which adjust to a fairly small size. You may be worried about a youngster carrying the bag and being throttled, but don't despair as the buckle pulls away if there is a tug.All in all a very nice bag, at £18 it is expensive but I can see it being one of those products that gets a lot of use (and given the quality I think it is built to last).Recommended

Brightly colored and lightweight, made from waterproof material, this tote bag was received with joy by my four year old. She was especially delighted by the flippers and the tail, the latter containing a zippered compartment allowing storage of coins and keys. One of the flippers contain an attachment similar to tea towel holders that secures things that you can push through the aperture. The top of the bag eschew a zip- opting for design that cleverly fastens by rolling up the edges together several times and buckling the ends together. This allows for simple carriage and allows a easier time of turning the bag inside out to dry damp innards. That said I have a dreadful imagination where kiddosthink that this would be great to fasten around their necks despite the prominent detachable tag not to do so. (We all know what kids are like, and all it takes is one)I think this is a great item that would complete any swimming kit. It is slightly small for anything else- shoes and training kit for an older child would probably need careful arrangement- but it is a lovely piece of kit that the younger child would be proud of.

My 5 year old has been using the Trunki Paddlepak Backpack weekly for a couple of months for swimming lessons. It's a great looking bag (pink colour and unique design) and my daughter loves it. It's just the right size for her and she's happy enough to wear it on her back (the straps can also be adjusted as she grows). The bag isn't huge but there is sufficient space for everything she needs to put in to it - costume, towel, googles etc. It opens up wide at the top to easily put things in and take things out too. The bag is made from a waterproof material which doesn't allow any dampness to leak through. I also like the fact the bag rolls down and clips shut for extra security (this also seals the bag shut so no air gets inside and makes swimming stuff smell damp). We use the small pocket to store jewellery, hairbands and money away safety. The bag seems very robust and durable - it's showing no sign of wear and tear, plus it wipes clean which is always handy! I don't really have any complains other than its a bit more fiddly to close than most bags (you have to roll it down a few times and then clip it shut)...

The tricky bit with a product like this is knowing the age group at which its aimed. The now famous Trunki is (I would say) aimed at children up to the age of about 8 or 9, but I'd say this is aimed at kids a little younger. It's quite small on my 8yo daughter, who herself is not tall for her age. Even so, she loves the design, which has a fish tail that doubles as a zip-pouch and "scales" and "fins". The top is sealed tight by rolling it over itself 3 times, so to that extent your child would need to understand that if they were to use it independently. On the other hand, because there is no zip, that is going to be far easier for little children to get things out by themselves. It's extremely lightweight and flexible,so it's perfect for either swimming lessons or going to the beach. It'll fold up nice and compact so would probably fit into an actual Trunki or a suitcase for a holiday. You'll easily get one child's worth of stuff inside, costume, towel etc.Time will tell if it is as durable as a Trunki case, but with their name on it, you would expect a quality job. There is also a blue version for boys.

This bag seems very well-made and is surprisingly lightweight. It has lovely reflective markings and this will be very useful in the winter months, as an added safety product, for walking back from swimming lessons. At the 'tail' end, there is a great pocket where your child can put their locker money, etc, and not need to rummage around in the wet section to find it!The bag is fairly spacious easily fits a poncho towel, wet swimsuit, and goggles inside of it. It also will fit armbands if they have been deflated. I am not sure that there is quite enough room to fit a full-size towel in there, so it is primarily aimed at younger children I would presume. The clip arrangement at the top is a lovely way of ensuring that your child doesn't end up with a wet back and neck when walking back from the swimming pool.Overall, I cannot find much to fault with it. It is important to realise that this is probably only useful up to the age of 8 or 9 maximum though. This is due to the size of it rather than any other reason. If you have a particularly petite child you may get away with it for longer.
