I've had this little gem about a year now, and I must admit to have being slightly bemused about it's TRUE use for some time after buying it. Is it a DAC? Is it a headphone amplifier? And how is it best used?At first I tried using it as an external DAC, running my iPod 5G connected to it playing 24/48 FLAC files (24/48 is the maximum bit-depth/sampling rate that this unit will support via microUSB). Fine, it worked fine. And sounded great too. But the wires and arrangement was a little 'clunky' and frankly got in the way of my daily commute. Then I tried using it as an analogue amplifier connected to my Sony NW-ZX100 via a Fiio L50 cable. Again,it worked fine and gave useful gain to the relatively weak Sony's output on my crowded daily train commute. But again, it was a little bulky and the wires were a little inconvenient.BUT the KILLER use for this little box of tricks is Apt-X Bluetooth. Connect an Apt-X Bluetooth source to this gem, such as the Sony NWZ-A15, NW-ZX100 or Song Xperia Z5 (I have all three), and you're in sonic heaven! The sound quality is really top-notch from this unit used this way, and it's amazing that something so little can sound so good.As background, I play 24/96 FLAC files from all three units, which are obviously 'down-sampled' via Apt-X BT to 16/44.1(ish) which is roughly CD-quality. Yes, there is a very slight 'coarseness' to the BT feed compared to the headphone feed, resulting from downsamling, but the increase in volume and body more than makes-up for that on a busy, noisy commute. It's very light too, and just 'dangles' from the end of your headphone cord, effectively making your headphones wireless.I use this with a variety of headphone such as B&W P7's, Sony MDR-1ABT's (wired) and Beyerdynamic T5P's. And this little unit makes them all sing!Interestingly, I also have a Chord Hugo, which is also an Apt-X Bluetooth headphone amp/DAC. OK, I'm not going to say that the Creative E3 is in any way better than the Chord. The Chord is absolutely sublime, even through Bluetooth. HOWEVER, the Creative E3 is surprisingly close in overall sound quality for a fraction of the price, and I often prefer taking the E3 to work rather than the Chord to save a good bit of weight. The Creative really is that good!Drawbacks? Battery life is a bit limited, especially if you use the Bluetooth connection. But that's it really. In summary, this unit is perfect for audiophile Apt-X listening. If you have an Apt-X Bluetooth source, a good pair of headphones and some CD-quality (or better) files, then get this! You'll never look back. Highly recommended!

I'm not an audiophile, but i keep buying audio stuff impulsively. Sound is warmer and louder than my lg g2 mini smartphone's now, with sony mdr ma900 headphones, which are 12 ohm impedance, this sound card is capable of 600. Motorhead motorizer closed type gets more punch and sound is clearer, bass is not overpowering all together (with rock band like My Brother The Wind, pianist Tigran Hamasyan, Meshuggah - Marrow sounds really good!). Anyway gonna test it with akg k550, philips shp 9500 (soon) too. Couldn't tell a big difference between dedicated Asus xonar d2 pci card and this one, but was a very nice experience in games with E1 listening to footsteps, and finding out quickly when enemy is retreating (cs-go,q3, whereas q3 sound engine is not very impressive anyway). Also tried to listen to some metal and rock songs while having this card connected to PC and using sony ma900: Grabuge (demo) by Chere Catastrophe, Animals as leaders - Kascade, Cylindrical Sea, Tooth And Claw sounded not overpowering, could separate all instruments.Update after 13.04.2015: creative aux audio cable is just pure crap, giving crackling and noise over headphones connected to smartphone, i had to use different cable bought over ebay, avoid creative cable.

I've had my Sennheiser HD540 Reference for over three decades; I thought I'd see how this will drive the 600 ohms load ( I am fully aware that this was never designed for such high impedance), surprisingly, on full volume, it was just enough and more surprisingly, no distortion detected. I've not tried this on my PC, it already have a Creative sound Card that is designed to drive 600 ohms headphones. Bottom line, I believe this is a cost effective solution if you use low impedence headphones with your mobile phones. On the Whole, for the current low price of under £40, if used for the right situation, I recommend you give this a try.

First impression...WOW! I paired this up with a pair of AKG K451 mini on-ear headphones (mini in size, not sound!) and the Galaxy S6 by Samsung. I was quite disappointed with the sound coming out through the headphones when playing music on the phone. Especially being such a high profile phone, the sound was lacklusture and flat. Just not good at all. So I purchased this and WOW - it's so portable, light, can clip on to your clothes and sounds AWESOME! Much louder, much clearer but much more oomph - fab purchase!

One of the best audio products I have ever bought. It works as an external sound card on my laptop, desktop at work and my iPhone. I also use it as a wireless receiver to listen to music on the go and in the gym. a very versatile product with an audio quality to match. It turns my two pairs of wired headphones in to wireless models! Perhaps the buttons could have been placed better and given more individual feel, but this is a minor irritation.

A main annoyance with the iphone 7 is solved. I can now use a variety of headphones and not rely on the silly 9? pound dac cable that came with the phone and I promptly lost. Not only does it sound much better but I love the added audio controls on it and how it lets me keep my iphone hidden away on the bus etc.I will probably keep an eye out for a second cheap one to get as a spare.

This fixed the low headphone volume issue on my Windows tablet and as an added bonus it works with my PS4 allowing me to use whatever headphones I want. Only drawback is that it uses the built-in mic when on PS4 but well worth it as it still does mic monitoring on the headphones so you know when you are shouting.

I was skeptical about it at first, but wanted to give it a try, fully prepared that I will be returning it. I was thrilled with the outcome. Everyone has different expectations, especially when it comes to subjective matters, but in this case, if nothing else, this product is completely worth the price.

This Sennheiser Headphones Amp Is A Very Good Low Cost Amp. I Purchased This One To Find Out If Would Drive My Sennheiser 650 Headphones At 600ohm And It Did Which Brought The Headphones To A Bit More Life. I do Recommend The Amp To Anyone On A Tight Budget.

17.9.2016

Excellent sound quality as a sound card, and a reasonable boost as an amp with no reduction in sound quality. Decent build quality, despite what other reviews have said, as long as you understand that it is made of plastic. Excellent battery life.

Works with macOS Catalina through USB. Works even without installing a driver, but I would recommend installing the official one just in case, maybe it's for microphone support.

I needed this because I had a player with excellent sound, but too low from my taste. It works as amplifier and it is very small so I am happy.

Pleased with this product it enhances and improves the sound quality of older albums. Good size and a little clip to attach to your phone case.

Great quality, good battery life. Bluetooth pairing works fine with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
