I listen to Spotify through my PS4 or Apple TV, as both devices are connected via an optical cable to my Bose Cinemate system. I've been impressed for many years by the sound quality produced by my speakers while watching films or playing games, but I'm always left disappointed by the harsh digital sound produced by Spotify. That has now changed. I simply cannot believe the difference this little box has made to the sound quality of my music. I feed the optical cable from my PS4 straight into the Dacmagic, which is in turn connected to my speakers via a phono cable I picked up on Amazon for about £10. The sound is now much more pleasant, as the harshness of the digital audio has been removed. In addition to this, I can hear instruments in the background of tracks that I've never heard before and the sound quality is overall much better and warmer across all genres of music. I listened to music through my PS4 and Apple TV mainly for convenience in the past, but now the sound quality is on-par with a dedicated system I doubt I'll ever change my setup. Word of advice for anyone using this with their PS4 - make sure you change your sound output settings to Linear PCM before connecting your Dacmagic, as this receiver did not recognise Dolby or DTS and my speakers made a horrible sound during initial installation. In addition, although music sounds many times better using Dacmagic, in my opinion games and films do not. You should consider how you will use this box before purchasing as it is designed primarily for music playback.

2 years ago I purchased a Mede8er 800X3D media player for central and easy access to all my digital media. For movie playback into my Yamaha RX-V663 AV receiver I have no complaints. However, when wanting to listen to music at audiophile level into my Cambridge Audio Topaz SR10 stereo receiver, it disappointed horribly, dull and lacklustre, - nowhere in comparison to my Marantz CD5004 CD player and Yamaha BD-S1067 blu-ray player. So much for central and easy access to my music files...Until a trusty hi-fi salesman heard my frustrations and suggested a DAC, the DacMagic 100. It was delivered to my doorstep 2 weeks ago and boy! Does this clever box of tricks breath life into my Mede8er.Music sounds so much more detailed, bigger soundstage and depth. I did notice however that this DAC prefers lossless music files in comparison to compressed files - but I suppose that is to be expected. For the price, you cannot go wrong with this DAC. Cambridge Audio ought to rename it to DAC-Black-Magic 100!

Initially I was a little disappointed when I setup my DacMagic. I bought it to get 192Khtz bitrate over USB. Upon setting it up I was only about to get 96Khtz. And as I looked into this it appeared to be because the DacMagic only has a USB 1.0 connection. However, almost accidentally, I stumbled across a blog review of the product on the web that again mentions it has 192Khtz over USB but this time enlightened me as to how to achieve this with a somewhat hidden feature."Somewhat hidden in the DACMagic 100’s documentation is the fact that when you first turn the device on, you must perform a one-time switch out of the default USB 1.1 mode by depressing the power and mode switches simultaneously. If you don’t do this, you’re not going to get 192KHz."So there it is. I followed these instructions and I now have 192Khtz that I paid for. Why this is not the default I'll never know?

After using it for a few months, I'm really pleased with this DAC. I wanted to be able to listen to my iTunes library (and more recently Apple streaming service) from my iMac through a Cambridge Audio AM10 amplifier. The amp has no digital inputs but this little box means you can bypass the computer's sound card and connect up to a normal RCA Aux input. I really like the sound - as some have said on other reviews it is a little less "harsh" and sounds great to me. It blends in well with the Cambridge Audio amp (same black aluminium finish and blue lights) and was very simple to connect. I tried a TosLink cable between the iMac and the DAC first but now use a USB connection at a sampling rate of 192khz.This sounds better to me and means that any other sounds the computer makes (eg incoming mail) still go through the normal speakers rather than the HiFi. Recommended.

This is the first time I have purchased a DAC and was not sure what to expect.I have Sony WH 1000 XM3 headphones and I always thought these sounded pretty good. When I connected these via a wired connection to the DAC Magic 100 and listened to Amazon Music HD through a MacBook Pro (2015) the volume was noticeably louder and the soundstage of the music was also more expansive, warmer and the sounds of individual instruments had greater clarity. I also attached the laptop and the DAC to my Yamaha Sound Projector and JBL portable speaker - the music through the DAC is noticeably better. I wanted to spend money on a new amp and speaker system to make the most of the Hi-Res music through AmazonMusic HD - this DAC has allowed me to save money on that purchase as this makes my existing systems sound SO much better - very pleased with the purchase.

Bought to improve the performance of a cheap media streamer with an optical digital output, which it has done in spades. What I didn't expect is what it has done to the output from an old but trusty CD player that once cost nearly £500. Have yet to try direct from computer, but am expecting wonders. No remote control however - something of a mixed blessing.I can do nothing other than highly recommend this as an upgrade to digital music reproduction.Addendum 25/01/2015: Now installed drivers and firmware to play direct from laptop - involves use of a wire, but it's worth it. Aside from the notable improvement in quality - something that did surprise me - you can do away with the irritating gaps between tracks, useful when playing classical and live albums.

This little device is superb in fairness. If you already have a decent system you may only notice subtle differences like background instruments being slightly louder and clearer. I could hear people shouting and clapping in the background on a live pink Floyd album. The music sounds clearer and a wider sound stage. Miss and highs are clear and in muddled. Lows less muddied.I highly recommend this device if you want to improve the likes of the already superb Chromecast audio etc.10 out of 10

I bought this only to improve the output quality from iTunes on my Mac. To my gratified surprise, it has increased the quality of all my audio beyond my expectations. There is a nuance to the music that can't be heard from my CD player and you can clearly hear individual instruments that were just part of the general noise before. The most effective £130 that I could have spent to improve my system.

Amazing product from a trusted company. Paired it with a JD Labs Objective 2 amp and a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 990 Edition 600 ohms. Spacial studio quality sound that works great with music, film and games. I've heard things from this set up, that I haven't heard in others. You can hear the love that went into this. Take a bow Cambridge, take a bow.

I have only had this DAC for a day or two, and I can hear an improvement. They do say it requires a burn in time, so that should make things even better, as for any negatives, I haven’t noticed any, as I’ve only had it for a few days, I hope this continues.

Very pleased with this tiny box. I have it going through a Cambridge Audio Azur amp and it produces really detailed and smooth sound from good audio files. I personally would have preferred 2x Toslink inputs rather than 2x S/PDIF, but that's a detail.

I purchased this & the np30. The onboard Dac of the np30 is already quality. This just upgraded the sound quality & took it to another level. Listening to FLAC, lossless files Etc is stunning. Musical heaven. 5 ✨✨✨✨✨ for this little box of magic.

Lovely little box purchased to work with a raspberry PI running audiophile Linux. Great buy and a highly recommended entry level DAC. Do it justice with good quality cables though
