Bought as a replacement for an ageing Panasonic DVD source which was always used as a CD player. I was surprised as how much more detail and soundstage was present in the Marantz, as it had cost half the price of the old machine it had replaced. It as a great partner for the Marantz PM6006 amplifier I was using, and a bonus you could use one remote to control both separates. I personally found like all CD players I've had in the past, it was still a little 'bright' on top notes and cymbals, but my listening is primarily geared for vinyl, however, I am fussy and picky on this issue. For a £200 budget player, I think Marantz have done a sterling job. Build quality is great too, easy to use and has CD text,

I was looking for a replacement Kenwood amp which was getting a bit long in the tooth and I have to say this Marantz is a cracker. Would definitely check it out as a serious contender if you are setting out on the separates journey. I am replacing my old Tannoy 6's soon as they struggle to keep up with this amp!!

I bought this amp while my Arcam A29 is having a repair and it is surprising good for the money, it is open,punchy and well made! Considering the cost it's a no brainer, I tried a Cambridge amp before this and it was dreadfully 2 dimensional,, well done marantz,,

You could pay twice the money but you would not have an amp twice as good. A very dynamic amp with fine tonal qualities. Only concern is that mine seems to run very warm.
