I bought this amp because it has 2 optical inputs as opposed to only one on th 6005 or other modern amps. Of course beinga Marantz was a bonus too.Initialy Iwas a little dubious about the low power rating of 45wpc, need not have worried about that. Previously i have run a TEAC 610 2 x 90 w which was a great amp but with no input there was white noise from the speakers. Also a Yamaha AS500 with 2x 85w, it had a really cheap feel and the sound was limp,,, best avoided. The Marantz in comparison is just not at the same level, it is total quality.Mine is connected to a pair of Tannoy V4 floor standers (house shakers) and Mission M31i at the rear ( a better tonal match than V1s).The amp has no trouble in powering all 4 with it's 'small' 2x 45w output. In fact it sounds more powerfull than the other amps i've tried. The bass is taught and precise , though my old TEAC woud really rumble the house but it lacked the control if the 6006. If more bass is needed clicking in the loudness will shake everything nicely. The total sound stage is awesome, I was not expecting to notice such a difference from the other amps. It's brighter and cleaner.Having two optical inputs means the RCAs are now unused because both the TV and CD are on optical. The quad set up means you can forget those gimicky surround systems, subs etc that boast 100s of watts, they just sound naff with too many buttons to achieve average sound. The stereo over 4 speakers with this amp manages to give a surround effect on films that is more than just quad stereo (dont ask me how though !)Useful features of operation include the auto off which switches the unit into standby after about 10 mins when the input is zero. It could frustrate if it takes you that long to change a cd but i like it. To turn it back on again you just turn the input selector slightly, or use the remote, simple. If the sound and functionality of the 6006 were not enough it looks so much better than what the other manufacturers produce. The selected input, selected speakers, loudness and direct have smell blue LEDs which are not too bright. The power button has a red LED when in standby, it goes off when the unit on so you dont end up with a multi coloured chav disply !To sum up, I've not found a thing to gripe about with the 6006. I makes all the input sound better than previous amps. The extra optical input costs extra compared to the 6005 but the blurb reckons it fitted with bigger capacitors in the power amp too.Worth every penny, and now its only £299 ! I paid £399 and still dont care that its cheaper now.

There are plenty of reviews for this amp on many websites and they are all pretty good. For what it is worth, I am in total agreement. I like the sound and build quality. The facilities are generally good and usability is also good.Size:It is quite a big beastie. It is a tad wider than typical hifi devices, only by a centimeter, but it may be an issue for some. It is also quite deep, so again some may want to measure. It is generally quite a substantial bit of kit.Facilities:- The usual RCA plugs exist, including an MM phono for a turntable.- There are 2 optical ports. I have a Chromecast Audio plugged into one, meaning I am using the PM6006's onboard DAC.There is also a co-axial port.- 4 Speaker plugs allow you to connect 2 sets of speakers or bi-wire one set, if you so want.- You can daisy chain supported Marantz devices to run off the amp's remote, such as a CD or Network player.- A front 6.35 (big style) headphone socket.- There is no USB or 3.5mm input socket, which is a bit of a shame (though you could use a phono to 3.5mm cable).- The amp is configured to power down after 30 minute of inactivity. You can switch this feature off but I find it useful.Controls:There are rotary controls for input selection, bass, treble and balance as well as a motorised volume control. This rotates when you change the volume using the remote control. Push buttons for on off, input selection, direct connection, speaker selection and loudness. Rotary controls for bass, treble and balance. Normally I bypass these.Usability:I tend to leave the amp in direct connection mode, which disables the tone controls. The remote is fine but pretty much limited to on/off, volume control, mute and switch direct input on/off. It can support other Marantz devices. In terms of usefulness, I have no issue with this. Just a big remote with most of the buttons not being useful to me. It would be nice if it had an option to manage speaker output. If you have a remote it would be nice not to have to get up again to switch the speaker back on - me just being lazy.Sound quality:Excellent, in my opinion but these things are usually subjective. If anything I find the sound a bit "warm", but not offensively so. I run a RP3 turntable, Chromecast (Spotify and Play Music), a Cambridge CD Player plus some other antiquated stuff. I have spent many happy evenings working my way through my collection of music.Personally I am very happy with my purchase which, at the end of the day, is all that really matters.

Wow, just wow. I thought I had a good Amp, the Pioneer A400 X, but I have now moved the CD player back into the front room and wanted an Amp that had a remote control, plus optical inputs for the PS3.The Marantz fitted the bill. I have it linked to my Marantz CD-63 KI Signature, and with the Pioneer I thought the sound was excellent, although when you turned the volume up the speakers would distort.Anyway I have the Marantz in action and the sound from this box is simply stunning. I never really managed to gauge a massive jump is sound quality or clarity over the years by changing some piece of kit, but having this Amp I can actually tell the difference from the Pioneer. It’s easy to get carried away with such reviews, but it simply is quite stunning. For example, Alchemy by Dire Straits, in the song Telegraph Road, there is a section where it goes quiet and some shouts from the audience "We love you Dire Straits". On the Pioneer you could never tell what these people were saying, but on the Marantz you can now hear that level of detail. This has made me wonder how much 'Music' has been lost by the Pioneer that the Marantz is now able to punch through to the speakers. Kate Bush's 'The Red Shoes', the vocals are so much more clear, that you don’t need to read the lyrics. It really shines on live albums, Genesis Three Sides Live, Turn it on Again, at half volume, really brings the house down, with no distortion, its like being at the concert.Pink Floyds Pulse Album, the guitar from David Gilmour is really brought out in such clarity its really exciting to listen to again. It handles the high notes of the music really well and you hear a level of detail, not heard before. It’s also at home with Classical, with Vaughn Williams's Partita for double string Orchestra shining through. So overall I am so happy. I am rediscovering my music collection again. Well done Marantz. Now for some better speaker cables!

I have recently started going through the process of upgrading y 24 year JVC HiFi to improve the listening experience.I am 42 and don't need ear shattering loudness!I researched and chose this amp. I am still currently pairing with my 24 year old JVC speakers (changing next month) and my word - I was blown away by the quality.I use it for vinyl - I have a Cambridge Audio Solo phono stage - which is fantastic - but have opted for the Marantz phono stage currently - although still trying out - the Cambridge Audio Solo delivers more punch - but I find the Marantz phone stage a better listening experience - currently - still testingThis amp though - wow - just wow.I got some atacama moseco 6 stands and the sounds that fills the room is absolutely stunning - my old speakers have never sounded so good - the detail and warm that comes through - the clarity I am hearing now - its way more than I expected.Wish I had upgraded years ago.Next stop - the speakers! The remote control - its what you expect although doesn't have the loudness option on it - which is odd - and I feel for my needs there is way too many buttons on it - but that is really a very minor gripe with what is overall a beautiful sounding amp

Looked at a wide range of amps to replace my 25 year old Audiolab 8000A which finally gave up in Dec and which I loved. Looked at current analogue only amps from Rega, Audiolab and in a rash moment Roksan (Brilliant, but expensive). Modern features swung me to this - digital inputs and a decent phone stage, plus a remote (ooh!). So this was probably at the lower end of my budget but is just brilliant. If you don't need Bluetooth, but want but plenty of cabled inputs including co-ax and 2 x optical then is great value. Nicely balanced tone, less harsh I think than the standard edition and extracts great detail from any source. Probably on a par with my old Audiolab from my Rega TT but on CD's,Tuner and MiniDisk player (still a great format) then is a step up in terms of clarity and control. If you love music and want to go a level up from the sub £200 bracket then this is a great option without going too overboard. The equivalent UK tuned CD player is reported to be equally brilliant and is a What HiFi award winner - not heard but suspect is a great paring with this amp.Worth the additional £120 or so IMO over the standard model - so go on, treat yourself!

Received this today thanks to Amazons next day delivery service! So i eagerly hooked it up to my Wharfedale 122's and SW150 Amp. After some bi-wiring and fine tuning I have to say that this Amplifier sounds amazing. I have tried out a variety of songs and the quality is fantastic with rich full warm sound every time. I ditched my old Denon PMA-720AE which in its own right had good sound, however the music was a little tight and punchy, plus it had no optical out, however this Marantz has two optical outputs and just seems so much fuller in sound detail and build quality. Im hearing musical instruments that I never heard with the Denon. Initially I was a little worried that the PM6006 (45w 8ohms)would not be as powerful as the PMA-720A (50w 8ohms) however, I need not have been concerned, as this thing blows my ears off without distortion at just half volume, through my PC's HD sound card equalizer as the music source, though im sure Physical CDs will sound even better! If you have a set of speakers up to 120w like my 122's I don't think you will be disappointed with the Marantz PM6006.

Terrific sounding amp within the price bracket, and maybe better than some more expensive alternatives, as some other reviewers have suggested, although I cannot really comment, as I haven’t compared any from the next bracket up.Has a good range of inputs, only lacking network capabilities, but this function is available in the next model up if that’s important to you. Personally, I have my Apple AirPort Express connected via one of the optical digital inputs, and I stream from either my iPad or iPhone on AirPlay. The amp is pretty substantial size and weight-wise, but not excessive. It matches my Marantz CD5005 perfectly and allows me to use just one remote.I also have a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC turntable connected via the amp’s phono stage. The speakers I use are bookshelf speakers rather than floor standers, by Cambridge Audio. Not high-end, <£150, but they sound great with this amp driving them.Overall, I can recommend this amp if you’re looking to spend within the price bracket.

Great value for money, lots of features and convenience, but lacks warmth. its very clinical and certainly lacks punch in the upper bass frequencies.however, thats what tone controls are for.To get the best it needs partnering with components that will gel with its sound style..one thing i'll add is that the direct sound option ( to switch out the tone/balance controls) works damn well. ive never really heard much of a difference on previous amps, but this really opens up the soundstage and is a genuine improvement.im using it with the cd6006 and its detailed and very spacious on the sound width. its also a little difficult to listen long term at the moment as its just..well.. harsh.i put on my old pioneer pd s801 cd player from the early 90's and the smoothness returned..

The sound from this amp is brilliant. Clear, detailed and defined (that's about as much as my non-audiophile ears can describe). The phono is passable but using a pre-amp (Rega Fono Mini) has added more punch to the Rega RP1 TT. The Marantz 6000OSE CD player connected to it plays a really vibrant sound and also works with the amp's remote control unit too, which is a bonus for a legacy 17 year old CD player. Optical input from the TV does a very good job as well. For reference, the speakers are Monitor Audio Bronze 2's and 17 year old Gale 315 speaker cable and QED interconnects. My only slight gripe is the input selector dial doesn't give a solid 'click'when selecting manually put I am picky.

Great piece of kit from Marantz that really lifts the sound from my Fyne Audio 303's compared to my Sony amp that I have. Still only with the Sony CDP XE 800, which was very good gear 20 years ago. Worth saying how good the supplier was in this, TVA Tech, asked a few question and got very fast response, I can recommend them. I actually thought I ordered my, to come 6007cd from them but it appears not, feel rather guilty about that after they were so good. I am sure this amp will give me many hours of great listening, it was bought purely on the back of reading reviews as I live abroad, all spoke of how good it is and they are not wrong

I’ve had this amplifier for 10 months now and the sound keeps getting better. I’ve heard of burn or break in being a myth but I can can definitely tell the difference. It’s taken 10 months to get to this point but well worth the wait. It doesn’t matter what you attach to it (in my case a marantz cd6006 uk, rega p3, rotel t11 dab, Sony mini disc recorder and even an onkyo cassette deck)All output to mission q1 bookshelf speakers. Absolutely and utter sonic heaven. Tv goes off and an album comes on and I’m gone for 45 minutes. The CD player took a while to burn in as well so be prepared to wait but all good things as they say.

I already had a Marantz CD5005 player and had been using a Pioneer A10K for about 3 years which actually has a slightly higher power output - in theory. The sound difference with this amp is astounding. The bass is deeper through the same Wharfedale 220’s and everything is played back using source direct - absolutely no need to tweak tone at all.It handles everything from Jazz to heavy metal with style. Playing the first Iron Maiden CD and Steve Harris’s bass hits you in the stomach. Nothing harsh at the top end and great separation and definition.Oh - and it sounds much louder than the Pioneer as well!

On PM6005 vers there're some updates: new remote, added unit vibration-damping feet, toroidal PSU and other internal components replaced with better components. A red led now's added close to each blue input led on frontal panel, to indicate mute function.Compared to PM6005 sound's overally more detailed: mids are more vivid and large in the sound stage, but a bit less wide. Listening to it using an external DAC (Xantech VDA51), surround sounds're less splitted from front/back stage. I suggest PM6005 if you like a wide/warm sound stage. For who prefers richer/detailed sound I suggest to go for PM6006

I tend to chop and change between heavy electric music - Chemical Bros, Underworld etc- and more instrument lead music like Led Zep and Whitestripes. Well well this sturdy sleek design produces a meaty thumping bass and copes adrimaly on guitars and keyboards of all music genres . I like the measured volume controls , for example Whole lot of love (Led Zep) turned up offers np distortion on my 25 year old Tannoys . All the rave reviews are justified this amp is intergrated but acts like seperates. All this for under £300 , it's simply amazing . Lay back and enjoy, music just got fun again.

The amp is everything I hoped it would be. Solid tactile construction. This is replacing a very old Cyrus 1 which is a fully integrated but bass shy amp so having more control from a budget amp is quite a novelty for me. There is a high degree of separation and the power amp feature makes my Monitor Audio speakers work hard. Set up is easy, however I didn't pay attention to the depth measurements and found this to be much deeper than my other separates & had to resort to cutting the back out of my unit for it to fit. The remote even controls my very old CD50SE, bonus!
