There are two layers of consideration with this phono amp. The first is build quality, which is excellent with superb fit and finish for the money. The second is the sound, which is very special indeed at this price. Clear and detailed with lovely texture to vocals and acoustic instruments. I have used it with both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges and have been equally impressed. At the price this phono amp is a no brainer.

I got this to avoid needing to have a separate headphone amp and preamp. The Alva performs both jobs admirably. It is extremely solidly built, it sounds great (at least for my MM cartridge, I haven't tried an MC one), and basically works exactly as you'd want. It would be nice if the sound continued to come out of the line outs when headphones are attached, but the fact that it doesn't is hardly surprising and not a deal breaker.

As with all the Cambridge Audio products I have owned, this unit is beautifully designed and has a sturdy construction.It was bought as an upgrade to another phono amp to use my turntable with CXA60 amp. I looked at reviews before buying. All seemed highly complimentary and the accolades are well deserved. It enhances the sound of my records delightfully.

Excellent sound quality from audio technica moving coil cartridge. Bought to replace aging NAD unit but sounds so much more articulate.
