I was born in the 50s in the East End, but raised abroad in the dying embers of the British Empire (Malaya, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malta, Germany and Birmingham [well Wolverly]), as my dad was a Sgt/WOII in the British Army. And if I have any memories of him in the evening its drinking a gin and tonic + lemon watching the sun set on the empire with a green gin bottle in the background. So for me 'it's got to be Gordons' as a bottle of gin in the cabinet, as much for that rosy glow of childhood as the safe and comfortable taste of the dry Gordons gin itself. But it certainly doesn't have to be just Gordons, just as I used to love Glenfiddich malt whiskey as a young adult (like my dad)but then got really into the peaty of taste of Laphroaig malt whisky in my late twenties.I tend to prefer my spirits mixed these days and so have returned more to G&Ts, and this Cotswolds dry is a perfect accompaniment to use instead of Gordons when the mood takes me, it tastes different and more fullbodied and fruity, but in an nice interesting kinda mildy spicy/citrus way (it's all botanicals these days in craft gins), while still retaining much of the classic London dry gin flavour. Plus it's not that much more expensive than Gordons as I don't overdo the gins these days (at the 18th birthday bash of a schoolfriend, my mate made me a half pint G&T and I mentioned it tasted really strong - he said 'oh they ran out of tonic' - fair enough I thought, drinking up).In the Independent's review of the ten best gins of 2016, neither Gordons or this Cotswolds Dry gin was mentioned, but what do they know about it - give this Cotswold dry a try as well if you like your gin straight or with mixers and I doubt you'll be disappointed. Plus it goes a nice cloudy colour like Pernod in the glass when mixed - now that's classy... so 5*. And it won a gold medal at the 2016 gin Olympics. The bottle came in a designer The Prisoner 'Rover' style plastic bubble to prevent delivery-malfunctions, and the presentation cardboard box was flat-packed to assemble before presenting if needed.

This was perhaps not the look I had expected from a Gin, it is an unfiltered variety, giving it a swirl of cloudiness which delivers it's crisp flavour in an even warm glow! This was just so delightful, as a mixer with Tonic and Lemonade it was absolutely gorgeous and sumptuous to taste. A strong aroma followed by the almost giddy feeling of textureful spirit made this an absolute hit for us over New Years.Aside from platitudes about the taste, delivery... It arrived in an excellent inflated bottle protector, with the box in pristine condition folded next to it, this meant one would have easily been able to slip it into the delightful box and present it as a gift, rather than the bottle have rattled around and dented the presentation box, superb idea! And this struck us as fab the moment we opened the outer cardboard box!The cloudiness is intentional, this is a non-chill filtered, but this means "unfiltered" which is explained in the sash motif across both the box and the bottle, making this rather unique in our spirit collection, where filtered crystal clear gin is the predominant, but having tried this absolutely excellent distillation I don't think we'll ever go back to anything else!

This is a gold medal winning gin - World's Best London Dry Gin at the 2016 World Gin Awards. It's easy to see how this gin won such an accolade after just a few sips. I love gin with a nice citrus fragrance, and this has a lovely grapefruit scent which is not overpowering, together with the more classic juniper and popular coriander. You can taste all three of the main scents together with the spicy black peppercorn, which is not at all overpowering. There is a nice clean addition of bay and lime with a background of locally grown lavender. All in all a fairly complex gin which has all of the ingredients distinguishable from one-another which is no mean feat.I'd recommend adding a slice or two of lime, either neat with ice or a matching tonic. The bottle looks classy and with a matching presentation box, this would make an ideal gift to a regular gin drinker, or would do a good job in converting a non gin drinker!Great to see that a small micro-distiller is winning awards on the international stage. It's a crowded marketplace with a lot of excellent competition, which goes to show how good this must be to be a title winner.

You can tell this is a serious gin from the sombre and classy gift box in which it comes but that said if I was browsing the gin shelf for something new my eye would not be drawn to the bottle which resembles a bottle of sherry. So what about the contents? The scent of this gin neat is clean and fresh. When I tasted it neat the alcohol hit me from ear to ear across my jawbone, my wife had to spit it out! However when you add tonic this gin is transformed both visibly and flavour wise. Being unfiltered adding ice or a mixer makes it go delicately cloudy in your glass and dilution brings all the gin makers hard work to the fore. There is a definite citrus flavour at the start with the sharpness of grapefruit that makes for a refreshing G&T,adding grapefruit bitters may work very well too.About half way through my drink the juniper and cardamon really came to the fore for me and the lavender was always there just faintly lingering on the finish. In summary my lovely wife said she would never have chosen this gin off the shelf but would definitely buy it again.

I am far from being an expert on gin. Having had the occasional gin and tonic made with standard gins (Gordon's or Bombay Sapphire), I've tended to think it was fine but not really to my taste. So Cotswolds was a real revelation. Mixed with standard tonic water and some ice and lemon, I found it to have a rich, luxurious and immediately appealing taste. Just as (when I can) I like to have a bottle of decent single malt in the house for an occasional treat or to offer to a guest, there's a good chance that when I get to the end of this bottle, I will want a replacement. I don't want to be too hard on Gordon's, Bombay, and the others -- the comparison is perhaps unfair because this is really in a different price range. But rather as it's worth spending a bit extra on decent whisky if you're able to do so, I would say that this product certainly justifies its price. Overall, I'm very impressed.

Spoiler alert - I'm not a Gin fan. I'm barely a Gin drinker. If pressed to name any Gin brands then that one that looks like a bottle of mouth wash is the only one I can think of. Wait, there's a blue one too, isn't there? As you can tell, I'm not the best person to give an expert review on this. I didn't open it for the longest time because my bottle is number 0001 which I thought was pretty cool but then I thought there is no point in it sitting there being unopened. I've only had this with tonic so far, and it's fine. It's good in fact, clean and not as bitter as other Gins I've tried. That taste is what generally put me off Gin in the past, but here it is smooth and doesn't feel like I'm licking a toilet wall. The bottle and box round out a classy product, so I would definitely recommend this for any Gin connoisseurs.

Compared with the everyday gins that populate the supermarket shelves (Gordons etc.), this is far more smooth and aromatic. I recently discovered Bombay Sapphire gin and I would liken Cotswolds to that, probably even smother. Cotswolds has a bit of woodiness to it's flavour compared with the other gins.I'm sorry, but I am not a professional food and drink critic so I cannot describe the taste any better than this!I was concerned about whether the bottle would arrive intact but it was very well packed. The bottle was inside a very sturdy inflated bottle holder and the box was packed separately. This gins costs more than the likes of Gordons but in my opinion it is a far superior product and Iwould say the extra cost is justified.

Well isn't there quite a gin revolution going on at the moment.... Here's a classy one.Supremely smooth, rich but dry taste and quite unlike the probably usual gin experience for most on the airplane or at the Beefeater. This is a grown up gin for grown ups that appreciate a quality spirit.Beautifully finished over ice in moderation it also has sharpness that mellows on the tongue, to savour. Fine with good quality mixers too - your Fentimans and Fevertrees. And lovely packaging for those considering as a gift. Also don't worry about buying for postage, it is very well packaged. At the price a bargain for serious ginners and certainly also one for the drinks cabinet for special occasions.

This gin was recommended to me recently in gushing tones at a gin bar I went to recently in the Cotswolds. I already had my eye on a few others that I wanted to try, but filed the information away for later.Well, the bottle is drunk, and everyone else around the table absolutely loved it. I on the other hand did not. I found it a bit bland and the aftertaste not great. I think I just must not like the blend of botanicals used. I'm a bit disappointed.Despite my lackluster response I have awarded the gin four stars as for everyone else this was the best gin they'd had in ages. I will try this again at a later point and will update my review if I change my mind.

The unique selling point of this Gin is that it is non-chill filtered. Chill Filtering removes C12-C18 saturated and unsaturated fatty acids and their esters which retain a lot of the original flavours and aromas introduced during the distillation process. Cotswolds Distillery have opted to keep these in and the results speak for itself.Another characteristic of non-chill filtering is when the spirit is mixed with ice it creates a very distinct cloudiness almost that of a bitter lemon drink. I have allowed a few friends to try this Gin and they love it. Not too many though as I’m keeping it for myself! My new favourite Gin!! I'm going to need more!

This is a lovely gin. It does not need to hide behind a flavoured tonic or various slices of fruit in order to give a good satisfying experience. Clean tasting, smooth aftertaste. Even the most sturdy of gin haters could drink this as there is no strong alcohol or juniper taste. The opaque glow in the glass due to the citrus oils makes this also a pretty gin to serve. Cotswold comes in a box so is good for gifting. I have not given it five stars as it is one of those that price-wise sits higher than necessary and feeling that you have to wait for it to be on offer somewhere means I often buy other gins so I do not feel like I am being ripped off.

I'll summarise the Cotswolds Dry Gin in a word - Stunning!! I'm a big fan of gin and have tried many of the well-known brands as well as several not-so-well-known ones too, and this gin is absolutely delicious.I've tried Cotswold Dry both with - and without - tonic water, it tastes pretty fabulous either way. I normally always mix gin with tonic water and a slice of lime but I've also found myself drinking this one accompanied with only ice. It has a nice clean flavour, not too sharp and a great aftertaste.I can honestly say that it deserves all the praise it gets. It really is a gin to savour - highly recommended.

We tried this gin on its own over ice as the blurb suggested. I don't recommend that. However with some Fever Tree tonic and a slice of citrus this is a very very fine gin indeed. The predominant aroma we got was lavender. The taste was very complex - juniper and citrus at first with spices to follow. Each taste produced a new mouthful of flavours. Unusually this gin isn't crystal clear like most others, presumably this adds to the flavour, but it also creates an almost luminescent swirl in the glass when mixed with anything. Very unusual. This is certainly a stand out gin, and we will be buying it again.

1.1.2017

The gin is presented in a nice corked bottle, almost like a rum bottle, and arrives with a nice presentation box flat-packed along with the bottle itself safely contained in an inflatable bottle-wrapper.The gin has a very pleasant, warm but not harsh, taste when drunk neat. It has a mix of well balanced flavours, the lavender predominant. With tonic in a 2:1 and 3:1 mix, it can be a struggle to balance flavours, so we found it best sampled neat or as long drink (tested with Fever-Tree normal and Mediterranean flavoured tonic waters).Overall, a high quality gin presented in a nice gift box.

12.3.2017

This is a really good, high quality gin. From the moment you see the packaging you can tell this is a quality product. The bottle design is also good and has a look of sophistication about it. It's unfiltered, so has a slightly cloudy look when it's poured. It tastes good on its own or with tonic. The botanicals are kept secret, although they are sourced from the local woodland and provide a flowery and slightly woody taste.Overall this is a very impressive gin that makes a nice alternative to other premium brands and I would have no hesitation in recommending it.
