I'll be honest and say that I didn't buy this director's cut of the original, classic, Broken Sword without preconceptions.I'm a HUGE fan of the series and the adventures of George Stobbart were the formative experience in my adolescence that the Harry Potter books are to today's teenagers. As a teen in the mid 90s I spent many happy hours furrowing my brow at the game's puzzles and riddles. I fell completely in love with the lovingly painted and drawn characters and locations, I was totally entranced by the elaborate plot and I had a huge affection for the characters! As the years progressed I have enjoyed the subsequent Broken Sword games immensely. As the series progressed into 3D with The Sleeping Dragon I was delighted to see that the series had lost none of its charm with the change to 3D adventure rather than the traditional point n click interface. The decision to keep this Director's Cut in the original 2D point n click format may infuriate those new to the series or younger players who missed out on the BS experience on the PC and PS1 the first time round. Personally I loved it and the beautiful mise-en-scene of the game looks better on my big TV than it ever did on my PC monitor! The game has a lovely mix of the original familiar and brand new material that made me feel like I was playing the game for the first time! Some annoying niggles from the first game have been remedied (including the infamous 'goat' sequence), unfortunately, along with some other very minor cut scenes and snippets of dialogue. Not quite sure why they chose to do that, disk space maybe? The game makes good use of the Wii remotes controls throughout, especially in the new sequences, and the interface on these parts reminded me a little of the puzzles in the excellent Tomb Raider Anniversary Edition. In addition to the traditional point n click puzzles you find yourself decoding ciphers, piecing together shredded documents and cracking ancient locks, all with the help of your wii remote! The new sub plot featuring Nico is both intriguing and deeply moving, boasting a range of new puzzles and characters while also fleshing out Nico's character in far more detail than ever before. Delightully it doesn't feel at all tagged on and merges beautifully with the game's original content. The game's new material (of which there is a fair amount) is intelligently placed in key points and seasoned veterans will find that this stops the game from ever becoming old-hat and predictable. In addition to the original, beautiful visuals come new hand drawn facial expressions from comics legend Dave 'Watchmen' Gibbons.I have no doubt whatsoever that this game will disappoint those looking for an all out, guns, blazing action fest. I'm sure some will also be baffled by the release of an entirely 2D game in this day and age (especially with the price of new games being what they are!).However, devotees of the Broken Sword series, or of the point n click adventure genre will find themselves in a beautifully hand painted heaven with this game!

Having bought a Wii a while ago I have struggled to find any games that capture my imagination, and the novelty of the console wore off after 5 minutes. Most games that come out on it work better, look better, play better, and are better on my Xbox so I tend to play that while my Wii sits in the corner gathering dust. Then I saw this and got all excited. I first remember playing this game years ago on the Playstation 1 I think it was, and thought it would be just the sort of game that would work well on the Wii... I was right.I liked the game when I played it ages ago but I got stuck. This newer version has a hints and tips tool, which helps you when you can't solve a puzzle; a great addition that meant I could see the mystery through to the end this time. The game itself, sticks faithfully to the original and centres around a conspiracy theory based around the Knights Templar (it's all very Dan Brown), and the game itself looks great with it's cartoon style. The voice overs and acting in it are all very good (save from an appalling attempt at a Geordie accent towards the end of the game) and will have you chuckling every now and then as you chat to, and interrogate people, looking for leads. Why Nintendo don't bring out more point and click games like this, I don't know - it's as if they were made for the Wii and actually work very well on a console that I think lacks many good gamesBroken Sword was a real blast from the past, with a few small improvements and updates to it, which in true detective style let me tie up a few lose ends. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my quest for the Broken sword, which took me all around the world before bringing me back to Blighty. It took me all of a weekend to do playing it solidly and I had great fun as the story unravelled. If you have a Wii and would like a slightly more adult game to play or would like to something other than table tennis to keep you amused, this is highly recommended. One of the few Wii games worth getting in my opinion.

As a fan of films such as Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons etc, I decided to buy this game for myself and I've got to say, I love it! Set in France, you play the part of the French lady detective (and journalist), with a sense of humour of course. The opening cartoon style scene starts off in a media magnate's family home, as he wants to meet you. You don't know why, but as a journalist you are always eager to find the next story. He welcomes you to his home, and hears something smash in the next room. He leaves you with his wife (who is very bitter about her husband because she knows he is a womaniser), whilst he goes to investigate. You suddenly hear a gun shot and run into the next room,to find him dead. The investigation starts, and as you progress your case (visiting different locations in the process), you interview people, find clues, de-crpyt messages etc. You realise that what started as a simple murder, is actually a much deeper ancient conspiracy. I'm only about a quarter of the way through the game at the moment, so who knows where its going to take me!Some of the tasks you have to carry out to get to the next stage were incredibly difficult to figure out (even with all the clues it would give you!) and at times it does get incredibly frustrating. But once you've cracked one code, it does get easier as you go along, and you really get addicted to the game because new things start to happen, and there are more people to speak to, and different locations to visit. Its a real adventure game! I think its far too difficult for kids, and would probably recommend it only to adults or teenagers.*UPDATE*Just completed Broken Sword. Shadow Of The Templars. WOW - WHAT AN ADVENTURE! LOVED IT!!

I am a fan of Point & Click games, though I had never played this one before. I do remember reading about it in a magazine a long time ago however. The game does feel rather old school, but that's why it exudes such charm and warmth. The artwork is truly wonderful and so are the characters and voice acting. Though I will say that the animated facial expressions, which appear in pop-ups when characters are talking, don't quite add as much as they could. The storyline is compelling and will take you to a vast number of locations. There are a series of puzzles that are clearly new additions to the Wii version that utilize the Wii remote well. I found they could be a little frustrating, but not much of a problem.I can't remember how long it took me to complete but I think it was a decent length. Really didn't want it to end though! To summerise, this is a wonderful game. If you're looking for a Point & Click mystery for the Wii, this is the best example. It's charming and full of wit. With a difficulty pitched at just the right level. Just try not to use the hint system too much.I'm glad I bought it and would recommend. It's just a shame that these types of games don't have much replay value.

Great "Point and Click Adventure" (Graphical Adventure). This is a adaptation of a PC game for the Wii.If you are looking for a game which has a lovely story and great depth don't go further. This game is one of the best ever "Point and Click adventures".The game has great characterization, locations and is suited for all those looking for a "serious" adventure game. The game doesn't require great gaming skills, the main requirement needed is a logical mind to help all the puzzle solving, therefore it is perfect for users who have just started playing video games thanks to Nintendo's new approach to "non-gamers"This game will be loved by all those who enjoy games along the lines of ProfessorLayton.

This is a delightful little game. I must admit i've never played any point and click games before, but what a refreshing change from the countless beat em ups, shoot em ups etc. I only wish there were more games of this genre out for all consoles. I found it a bit tricky at first, luckily all the way through the game u can access a hints page to the current puzzle. Ok i must admit ive been using this feature quite a lot to get through the game. I can only imagine the sense of gratification you get for solving all the puzzles yourself without the hints page though. I highly recommend this game to anybody who fancies somnething a bit different.

This really provides the experience of the classic adventure game. The narrative is amusing and the story is interesting. The riddle and puzzle solving is challenging enough to keep it interesting without getting frustrating. The hint system is good to prevent getting stuck.Completed in a few evenings and a colleague who borrowed then did the same.Torn between 4 and 5 stars as the game is really a make-over from a previous version, which may put the current generation of gamers off. However, the scenery is really beautifully drawn. The Wii's point-and-click is perfect. One of, if not the, the best adventure games on the Wii today.

I first encountered Broken Sword on the Playstation 1.{yes, I am that old!] I fell in love with the fantastic story, the superb locations and, I must confess, the beautiful Nicole! Now, this cracking tale has been given a wonderful make over on the Nintendo wii.In this new version, we are treated to an expansion of the Nicole character and also some new puzzles to add too the old favourites. The new graphics are quite superb and coupled with the new non stick hint system{no need for walk throughs}, this makes for a wonderful game which should please fans, old and young, and prove that the point and click genre is alive and kicking!

Having played the original Broken Sword games over a decade ago I was delighted to revisit them on the Wii.Although the story line follows the original there are some new scenes and puzzles and lets face it if you play a lot of games you are not necessarily going to remember every move and nuance form 10 years ago!Game play on the Wii is a joy compared to my earlier encounters with an original PS with mouse!Admittedly the graphics look dated compared to more recent games but for me that's part of its charm. A bit like enjoying the old 'view from above' Zeldas rather than the newer 'all singing all dancing' versions.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. I knew what I was getting before I baught the game as I had played it a good few years before on the playstation when it was first released. When I saw that it had been released for the wii i jumped at the chance to buy it and hoped it was still as good as the playstation version.... and it was much better. The storyline is the same, but the grapics are so much better for the wii. There are many puzzles, clues and adventures set in diferent places around the world. a must buy for any mystery fan. I loved the original games in the series and I'm so glad to finally see the first one re-released for the Nintendo Wii. It's just as great as the original and I really like the new Nico storyline. There's just one problem, I want more! I hope they will re-release the rest of the games in the "Broken Sword" series. Be aware of the Nintendo DS version though, since it doesn't have any voice acting.I would love the game re-released for the Playstation 3 too, in high definition, since the Nintendo Wii isn't known for good looking graphics.

I loved the Broken sword series when it first came out, this extended version is fantastic, the game has had extra Wii specific puzzles added and extra story too. I felt whilst playing through this expanded storyline (mostly for Nico) that these extra bits made this game very satisfying to play again and didn't feel unnatural or just bolted onto the original game for the fun of it, I believe these extra bits are an improvement and i really hope they do the same with the other broken sword games.

Yesterday ihad the opportunity to actually play the game, and as a huge fan of Revolution and everything they have created can say that the game is really good. There is a whole new sequence with Nico at the beginig of the game which is great and i hope when i reached the remade part it won't fail me either. I wished for a new game though this port satisfies my desires enough until something new comes from the great team that Revolution Studios are.

Hands down my favourite video game of ALL time, and i've been playing them for 15 years. The story, the voice overs, the graphics, the puzzles, the animations, the characters, the charm! This game has everything. If you like to watch a good story unfold, you enjoy puzzles, a little thinking and hotel dusk; this game is for you!5/5 Stars!

I bought this for my husband remembering that he used to play the PC version years ago. It was even better (according to him) to be able to use the Wii to see it on a large screen and it certainly kept him busy for weeks afterwards. An excellent buy.
