Set over 18 single-player levels, each encompassing numerous objectives, you'll fly over many locations in Western Europe and the Pacific. Levels set over cities, such as when you must stop key buildings in London from being destroyed by bombers, look quite spectacular, but the actual action doesn't change much. You'll either be taking down enemy planes with your machine guns, bombing targets or taking photos. There's not much more you can really do from within a WWII plane, but some more exciting set pieces would have livened things up no end. While in the sky the planes are remarkably simple to fly, which while great for anyone not well schooled in flight controls, might be a tad too simple for veteran players.Weapons obviously can't be locked onto enemies, but you can target an enemy and follow their position with a handy camera angle that always keeps the target and your plane in view. The nature of the weapons means that you'll be getting quite up close and personal with enemy planes, but bombs can be launched from a safer distance, with bombing runs being about the most fun you can have in the campaign. As the name of the game suggests, it's not just you against the world: you have a squadron to help you out. You don't get any direct control over any of your three comrades, but each of them can be asked to do certain things: Frank can do some real damage if he's let out of the squad formation; Joe helps you repair your plane, with you having to press a series of buttons in order; and Tom can pull enemies off your tail if you're in a tight spot. They'll often talk to you via the radio, and while it's not Oscar quality acting, the voice work is perfectly acceptable. With the ability to repair your plane while in the air (even though the ability needs time to recharge) Blazing Angels is a pretty simple game, with failure rarely coming as a result of your plane being shot out of the sky. The only tricky missions are those that have time limits, but they too prove pretty simple once you've worked out the best way to go about things. Once the main campaign is over you unlock a few extra game modes, and a number of quick game modes are available from the start, but they're nothing to get too excited about.Multiplayer modes add a great deal of longevity to the title, with support for two players on a single system, and up to sixteen players online. As well as standard aerial dogfighting, lone players have the Aces High and Seek and Destroy game types to play with. In Aces High one player is the Ace and must try to take down as many planes as possible before being shot down, with the eventual shooter becoming the next Ace. Seek and Destroy requires each player to shoot down every other player in the game, with the winner being the person to down all the others first. A few team-based modes are also included and revolve around capturing bases, bombing bases and protecting ground troops. Four players can even get together and tackle versions of the single-player missions in co-op, making the multiplayer offering far more impressive than the single-player portion of the game.Even though the controls are nice enough and there are moments of beauty as the sky is filled with planes it's impossible to overlook the many awful missions. Take the desert mission where you can't see a thing and must take pictures of enemy locations. With no map or radar, you simply fly around until you happen to come across the target.Read full review...

This is an incredibly good game, so long as you purchase on the xbox not the joystick-less PC title. The game is tougher and more complicated, and requires more skill than a simple arcade flight sim such as the still extremely good xbox title 'crimson skies'. As one flies into battle with one's wing mates allied around one much in the style of 'The Dam Busters' or later 'Star Wars IV' the sense of drama and epic importance fill one, most notably in historical battles such as 'midway'. Graphically the game has no glitches at all, easily keeping up with the ridiculously tight aerobatics one is often forced to perform in order to shoot down the latest Bosch nemesis. However, scenery and plane graphics are only reasonably good for the power of the 360, it is in epic lighting effects and supple smoke trails that the title's visuals become incredibly impressive. The controls of the game are very intuitive and one gets used to them quickly during the slow paced but necessary training level. However, the games learning curve for aerobatics and stunts is extremely sharp. Much like the brave pilots on either side of the conflict, one really does have to learn on the job, and in the case of either landing the blasted thing you're flying whilst being shot at by the Japanese air force or terrain following at great speed in Norway, one either learns quickly or ends up a large still burning black spot on the side of nearby scenery/opponents. Reporting from the perspective of a relatively seasoned gamer and console flight sim buff I must say that whilst certain levels of the game are fairly confidence inspiringly easy, several are awfully hard pushing one's command of the combat plane to its very limits and in doing so beyond. This is undoubtedly most true on the final mission which is perhaps one of the hardest final levels of any computer game. The game is enormously fun to play, has a pick up and play addiction to it, and is suitably satisfying. The Multiplayer in split screen is fun and sociable as you and a friend fly around the Eiffel tower attempting to reduce the other to burning wreckage inevitably bound for a poor Frenchman's living room or flying together against almost insurmountable odds. Due to a temporary connection problem I have been unable to play the xbox Live mulitplayer though have no doubt that a game inclusive of headsets will be inordinately fun "I have you now!".

I've played most of of the World War 2 simulators on the market i.e Call of Duty, Medal of Honour and so on, and I can safely say that you will never have as much fun on a games console as you will on Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WW2.It took me a while to get past the tutorial level but that may have been because I found the Nunchuck hard to control but i soon realised that you can change what you use control the plane and I now use the wii remote. You quickly develop a virtual relationship with your Squadron as you journey through World War 2 in a plane of the era that you are currently in at that point in the game including Spitfires and Hurricanes. The best battle is easily the battle of Britain simply because it provides such a diverse range of gameplay and excitement. This is helped by the fact that you can command your squadron to Attack, Form up on you, defend and each member of you squadron has a different ability which is very useful when you have one plane tagging you that you can't catch and shoot down. You get immense amusement from listenin to the witty banter amongst your squadrons and the allied forces. You also get to hear German and Japanese communications between their planes. It does get harder as you proceed through the game but you are encouraged by the rating you get at the end of each mission and an overwhelming urge to fly the planes you have just unlocked.Multiplayer mode is exceptional with a complete range of missions, some in co-op and some head on. You can choose to duel with the other player or join them as you enter a Dogfight with countless numbers of enemies. Multiplayer lets you have everything from the minute you put the disk in the slot and so you do no have to spend hours trying to complete it so that you can enjoy it with your friends. Finally, this game has amazing graphics. Who says Wii graphics are rubbish? You can see the textures on the individual house of London. You can fly under and around the Eiffel tower. You can see the ripples of the water as you come in low across the sea to ambush a fleet of ships.A must buy for anyone who loves gaming.

I bought this game hoping it would be an improvement on the few flight games on the Xbox market at the minute. Thankfully my wish was granted, as the game is a masterpiece. The graphics are absolutely amazing, the planes are very detailed and so are the skies. The ground below you is the real clincher. The cities have buildings of different heights and SO MANY OF THEM! Each city has its own monuments e.g. London has St Pauls Cathedral, Big Ben, Tower Bridge (which you can fly under) and Paris Has The Eiffel Tower (which you can fly through both of the gaps between the levels). The environments are so large and detailed. The Gameplay is excellent. The campaign mode is brilliant as you can fly a different plane every time.Overall there are over 40 planes you can fly at some point in the game. The mini campaigns are even better in my own opinion, choose the dogfight option to be thrown straight into the action over one of the cities in a random plane. You have to destroy 20 planes in 10 minutes. Or choose the Tactical Mission for bombing missions, where you have to bomb the points. An Ace Battle is something special. You choose a plane out of 32 and go head to head with another plane exactly the same as yours. If you shoot down that plane, then you will get an ace and another skin for your plane.Overall the enemy AI is very good and sometimes very hard to beat, it can be annnoying when you constantly have one on your tail, which you cant shake, but that just adds to the immense realism. I would definitely advise anyone who likes flying games, or anyone else for that matter to go and buy this game, you will not be disappointed. The realism and cities are amazing and second to none in a flying game.

(Review written by my son, age 12) I waswanting a good WWII shoot 'em up and I was not disappointed by this. Although I'm not a hardcore gamer this is faster moving than most games I already have and I love it. It is extremely exciting from the moment you put the disk in the slot to the end credits. It really feels like you are a proper RAF pilot. The plot is that you are a yank who wants to help the Brits before Pearl Harbor, so you enter one of the American squadrons in the RAF. First you do various training tasks to learn the controls. The rest goes in chronological order from the defense of Dunkirk to D-Day.When you work through the you get new planes for the next missions. There are a few things that aren't really in the planes are: locking on to enemy planes and having unlimited bullets. The controls are easy to master and enemy aircraft are highlighted on your radar and the sky along with allied forces. Your friend gives you mid-flight info that is written on the top as well as spoken. The graphics are amazing for a Wii game as when you fly low over the water it ripples and the explosions are really realistic! The only annoying thing is the incessant sound of the rounds of bullets from your plane. (Mum finds this even more annoying!)The game is great for anyone who wants a flight simulator game and who is interested in World War 2.As a 12 year old I loved it and it gives you a super fun game that is perfect for a rainy afternoon or for any time in the day if you feel like being and RAF pilot.

At last! A cracking flight combat video game that gives an arcade experience rather than a boring flight simulation.I thought very carefully before buying this game because of some poor reviews. I took a gamble once the price came down - and I'm sooooooo glad I did!The most important advantage of this game is the easy controls. They can be mastered in a couple of hours. The graphics are good - not brilliant, but certainly good enough to draw you in to the action and keep you hooked. The range of missions is impressive, from the Battle of Britain to Pearl Harbour to North Africa, from the fjords of Norway to the skies over Paris.Hey,some bits are too easy but there are a few missions that had me almost throwing the console out the window. The mark of a good game is the warm glow you get after mastering a particularly difficult section - I got this feeling regularly with Blazing Angels. If you like flight sims and spend hours banging on about cockpit detailing then don't go for this game. You won't like it. In fact you'll hate it. But then again you won't have many friends so it'll be something to while away your lonely hours...However, if like me you've been hankering for the excitement of turning on the console and within seconds getting into dog fights with Nazi fighters and bombing missions then buy this game. Now.Roll on Blazing Angels 2!

I enjoyed this game despite it's flaws. You fly tons of different WWII planes in battles over London, Dunkirk, Paris, Pearl Harbour, Battle of the Mid Way, Islands of Rabaul, Berlin and Africa, on various bombing mission, dog fights, topedeo runs on destroyers. Some missions you are on your own or with your 3 wingmen which have special attributes which you control. This game is not a true flight sim but more of a arcade game and can be a little unrealistic in some of the moves you can pull off. The controls are easy to pick up, you will learn everthing you need to know in the training mission and you soon be picking of enemy fighter piolts, shooting bombers out of the sky and destroying ground targets. There is aslo a mini campaign of which when you complete in bombing mode you get an upgrade to all bombs and complete in dog fighter mode you get better guns. During the campaign mode you can unlock different aircraft depending how well you completed the mission, you can use these aircraft in the Ace Dual mode which gives you a Ace paint job for that plane. It's true they haven't used the full extent of the 360's capabilities. The graphics could of been better and it's hard to find anyone on xbox live.

This is a good solid game. The controls (which are configurable) are quite arcade like and not exactly an accurate simulation of flying. Nevertheless, the game is enjoyable. As with any American produced WWII game the dialogue and scene setting are very Americanised, and do lack a little in accuracy. I'm not sure how many American pilots were flying for the RAF in 1939, but I doubt it was very many.Back to the game, the range of aircraft is good, there is not always much to choose between them in terms of aerodynamics and speed, but you certainly feel the difference in firepower. If anyone has played the excellent Secret Weapons over Normandy on the Xbox or PS2, they will see certain similarities here.Secret Weapons was superior in the storyline and dialogue, but being able to use the Wii's controls lends Angels a unique flying experience. This is what makes the game so good. The missions are not terribly challenging, and to be honest they don't take too many attempts to complete, but there are lots of missions, so there is a good degree of longevity with the game.Overall, I would certainly recommend it. It's not a sophisticated flight simulator, but it is jolly good fun! Tally-Ho Alge!

This is one of the first games I ever got for the Wii. It strongly reminded me of Rouge leader for the Gamecube. You play as and American, who has joined up with the 71st Eagle squadron. An RAF squadron operated by Americans. Starting with the desperate evacuation of the BEF at Dunkirk, you take the fight back to Jerry. Until of course Pearl Harbour. You then fight the Empire of the Rising Sun, before preparing for operation Overlord. You push past Normandy, liberate Paris, before finaly reaching Berlin and destroying the Nazis' war machine. For obvious reasons, you do not get to pilot Enola Gay. However when you finish the game you do feel pleased with yourself. The controls are easy to grasp and with the exception of the mission "Top Secret" work very well. If you want to understand what your grand parents are on about, when they go into another one of their "During the war.." lectures, buy this game.

I enjoyed this game a lot. The level difficulties are well pitched and both the dogfights and the bombings are very satisfying when done right. The campaign mode is fairly short, but after that there is a lot to perfect and do after finishing the main story. The actual "game" aspect is good fun and there's plenty of it.But now I come to the bad bit. When I first started on the first mission every thing started well and I completed it fairly easily. But by the time I got to the London mission I really noticed something wrong. When I selected the wiimote only sensitivity (you hold it on its side, like the racing games) and you turn it too far the the plane breifly goes out of control, allowing the tailing enemy plane to shoot you down. Having said that the game rarely puts you in a crucial situation so it doesn't effect you much. All in all a good game, but it could be better.

Initially it takes a while to get the hang of the controls, but the first (training) mission helps enormously, then the control method goes on to become really good fun (selectable between Wii-Remote/Nunchuck motion sensors or just standard analogue/button controllers). However, the story line for the on-going missions is pure cheese! If you can get over The Sun(esque) glorification/sensationalism of history then everyone can enjoy the game for what it is, a very entertaining game that plays very well.Still not tried the head to head yet (only split-screen and not LAN/WiFi), but if it's as good as the main game then it'll probably cause a lot of RSI as you tend to have to rotate/roll your wristsa lot when using the motion-sensors control method.

I was looking out for a flying game that also had some shoot em up action and Blazing Angles does not dissapoint. At first it took a little while to get used to the controls , I used the remote and nunchuck option. The first training campaign takes you through all the contols you are going to use and then the next campaign (Dunkirk) is a little easier. The graphics are good and although sometimes there is a little delay in the controls but this is not too often to make it a problem.I am looking forward to working through the campaigns and if you are looking for a game that has flying and shooting and don't want anything advanced like the PC flight simulator then this is for you.

Bought to replace previous game which had got scratched and refused to play (damn kids !) just had to get another it's that good. Will keep you entertained for years not just days ! Educational too would you believe ! But better than that it's just great fun. Not to be taken lightly, the tasks are extremely challenging and some will take you days maybe even weeks to conquer. But although this can be hellish frustrating I think it's what makes the game sooooooooooo good. (Once you've wiped the sweat from your brow) you get a great feeling when you've completed a particularly hard mission. You'll never get bored of this game !!!

My son bought this and has the most tremendous fun with it, rather than all the newer popular games, it offers less obvious prescribed ways through the different levels, it also gives some understanding of reality in flying, and is a better technological comparison to playing war games or cowboys and indian's in the garden, this game though still a computer game, does at least leave those playing it with smiles and excitement, rather than 'chart' games which if you watch your children play them, just induce compeitiveness and aggression. If it's raining and cold and you have to be in, this is game that's fun.
