Do you sometimes not only feel like the Need4Speed, but the Need To Annoy The Cops?I do, and then to get away as fast as possible. This Need4Speed most Wanted, has to be the best Cop getaway game ever. Really, I kid you not.You start off as some anonymous kid who gets his car nicked and must start all over again so he can beat some other kid and impress the scantily clad girls.During this, you get a basic car and must drive about the city looking for races to do. You`re helped by belly button Mire ( I think her name is) and some other faceless bloke. There are some very hammy acting scenes at the start which may be intended, but the cut scenes are very dramatic and film like and do work to get you into the mood to kick butt and take names. You have safe houses where you can check out your car and paint areas, etc where you can change car colour and er `pimp` your car, I think that`s the term with cash you get from winning races etc. You need to win certain races and annoy enough cops to go up the bad boy ranking and take on the twerp who took your car in the first place. And so the journey begins.I like the way that races are integrated with the city, so you roll around until you see a race point. You can also grab some races straightaway from your safe house, but I prefer driving around to them. Once you pick a race, you`re joined by 3 others (in a nice cut scene) and off you go. The races are fast and dramatic and with manual affords some skill. Reality isn`t much in prevalence here as you can crash into most things without stopping unless it`s a brick wall. However, the race does get the adrenalin going.I take catch up off, but it`s not that hard to catch up anyway (so far) as long as you don`t plough into the wall. The other cars race quite a lot like Humans (or maybe internet players) as they bounce and swerve about quite recklessly and have no problems trying to knock you out of the race. If you get ahead and use your boost, you usually stay ahead. However, they do get harder and at the stage I`m at, they`re now beginning to stick to me like glue.Once a race is over, you get a quick run down on your awards and carry on driving along the road to whatever you want to do next. But here`s where it gets good.Suddenly on your Police moniter, you`ll hear the Police talking about a race. A cop will go along to investigate. If he finds you and your m8s he`ll go after you, calling for backup. Not only does he call about you, but anyone with you. The chase is on.The Police are amazingly realistic in their communications. They`ll sound confident, exasperated, slightly annoyed, excited, cocky, but always professionally serious. They know if you grind to a halt, go the same way somewhere twice, etc. I`ve heard so many different voices and comments. I`ve heard the Police cop saying stuff like:"This guy`s useless, I`ve got him!""Or I`m the only one here, I`m losing him- I need that backup- NOW!"And the lady controller, "I`m sending back up! Hang on!" She sounds almost concerned for the lone cop. And loads of variations on this. Then you start getting the undercover cops, the `warblers`, I call them, cos of their different horns, "We`ll take over here."The more you piss them off, they more annoyed they get, surrounding you with ever more cars. Setting up roadblocks, stingers, choppers (which don`t come till a bit later). They even use choppers in a more realistic manner, using them to intimidate and slow you down with their rotar blast, no stupid dropped barrels. At first you`re laughing because it`s actually quite easy to avoid them, but once they get mad you have to start concentrating to escape and get focused. It`s like starting something then finding you can`t finish it when the hornets get really mad. There are various ways to put the police off from knocking down stuff to hiding places, but it still no easy feat when they`re really onto you and often you can find yourself hiding down an alleyway, nervously waiting for things to cool down. It`s important too to change cars or car colours after an escape because if you get into a chase again, they`ll recognise your car and go straight to mad-hornet mode rather than start from the easy `who is he ` mode.Chases can even happen in the middle of a race which I again really like and the AI does not just go after you, although one car always sticks on me, and if you`re a known trouble maker they`ll usually stay on you.Interestingly, I`ll be sometimes just cruising down a road and see a lone racer shoot past me. There`s no race, but sometimes I`ll chase after him just to see what happens. To be honest, I just got this game for the chase scenes. I love them. I only wish there was a cop mode, cos I like being the cop too.Personally, I think this is way better than the recently released Need4Speed since you don`t have to go on the net to install and you have the option of manual gears- and it`s really cheap now.Anyway, great game for releasing some tension in my book and a bargain at this price.

The main thing you want to know is this better than NFS:Underground 2, yes...only just! The best new feature is the introduction of the police chase. This greatly adds to the fun element as no 2 pursuits are the same, you can free roam anywhere during a chase! You get to smash your way through the scenery as well to cause a pile up behind you as you get away. Once out of sight you go into a cool down mode once the bar fills up you have evaded capture. During the chase the longer it goes on and the more damage you do the more HEAT you get. On 1 you get 1 car casually following you, get to about 4 and a whole pack of cars will chase you trying to knock you off the road. Along with helicopters, road blocks and spike traps. When not in pursuit you can change the colour or shape of your car to reduce the heat level or switch cars.Unlike underground 2 the level of modifying is reduced and not crucial to the game. You need to enhance performance still but anything else is up to you, so your not force fed to constantly change the look of your car as before. The class of cars are better as well with Porshe's, Mercedes, lamborghini's along with the usual street race cars. There are only a couple of different race types, tollbooth which is basically check point racing and speed trap where you have to get the highest combined speed through the speed cameras. The drag racing is a pain as you have to use the right thumb stick to change gears and feels awkward, but there are very few drag races!I have completed the career mode and the game does feel a lot bigger. To move up the black list you have to beat a rival to take their place. To challenge them you must win so many races, achieve set goals in a police chase, i.e. length of pursuit and reach a certain bounty done by successful pursuits and speed camera challenges. The main flaw again is that any car with the max performance settings handles exactly the same as the others?? so you can stick with just a couple of cars if you wanted. Also if you lose a race or fail to win you don't lose any money or your car. you just try again until you do it! It's a pity there is no reply mode either. After you complete career it's just about getting number 1 in the pursuit rankings for each category like police cars damaged, roadblocks dodged etc. There is a challenge series to do, 68 altogether ranging from races, pursuits with set cars conditions which is a cool bonus. For quick action you can choose a race type, car, and area to race in or press random button for it to choose for you. Overall a very good, fun game the police chases will keep you coming back after you have done the career mode and there is always the live options, but still a few minor flaws. Overall 8/10

This game is probably the best I have played recently. For a 2005 game the graphics are great. The last NFS game I played on my old PC was Underground and I remember thatseeming good. This game is even better graphically, and the races take place in the day which makes a nice change. The selection of cars is also good as you can also get alot of exotic supercars from Porsche, Mercedes etc.Right...alot of reviews have covered the basic points so I will go over some of my gripes with the game which mean I don't rate it 5 stars overall. You have to earn 'bounty' by running away from cops for ages and then evading them. At first this is great fun, you can do 'milestone'challenges like evading spikestrips which get you extra bonuses ie more bounty. However, when you get about 3/4 into the game this aspect becomes insanely frustrating. You have to earn over 5 million bounty to progress. This means being involved in police chases that last upwards of 8 minutes and being chased by helicopters etc. This is great fun, but you always seem to get really far and then just as you think you are going to escape something retarded will happen like your car randomly flipping round a corner and getting stuck on its roof which means you get swamped by squad cars and are arrested. If this happens more than once it can really get annoying because you'll have spent half an hour in chases for nothing, and will have to start all over againas you get no bounty if you're arrested. My next gripe is the strange situation where a Fiat Punto can go faster than a Lamborghini Murcialago! For some reason as you get into the game and onto the faster cars the computer assisted oponents still ocassionally have the crap cars from the start of the game, except really highly tuned. For me there's something very disconcerting about having a Fiat Punto overtake you at 200mph... I don't see how it's possible to tune a front wheel drive car with a 2.0 litre engine to even go that fast. If you got enough power out of a Punto to make it that fast then the chasis would probably disintegrate...Other than that this game is extremely fun and has a sensation of speed that you don't get elsewhere. It's a game which has made me grin hysterically whilst driving which Idon't do very often. Driving is very similar to the 'Burnout' games so if you're a fan of those then buy this!PS 'Josh W' don't now why you struggled with races, maybe you need a gamepad and your PC is too slow. The races are easy =S

This is possibly one the best if not THE best arcade racer out for PS2 at the moment. Ignore Carbon as frankly its a step back from this game. It makes the most out the Need for Speed series by giving new races, added amounts of pressure and frankly a very long playabilty option. You start by losing your ride a frankly stunning BMW GTR M3 to Razor- Head of the citys driving crew's, Of course theres a beautiful lassie to help you get back on the tracks and win your ride back. Its broken up by 15 bosses (The BlackList) you must work your way through each drivers set requirements to challenge them and possibly win their ride and move onto the next person. These requirements are broken upto - Bounty- Race Wins and Cash owned.Bounty is the brilliant new addition to the series,Basically it involves driving round like a lunatic, avoiding the police and racking up the list of driving offences. Sounds easy huh?. - NO. With each offense and the length of time you spend avoiding police it goes into heat levels. 1-3 are fairly easy but it quickly goes up to 4/5 or even 6 from blacklist member 8 onwards. These levels are brilliant - masses of tension, a real threat of trying to escape and brilliant done by NFS.You can lower your heat level by changing your car details/ i.e colour/mods etc.Race wins,Pretty simple either timed races, laps or sprintsCash owned - Win a race get cash- simple. With each Blacklist the challenges for each requirement goes up and up..I reckon by Blacklist 2/3 you should;ve racked up about 30+ hours in the game.It a big game no mistake a good vast free roaming race ground with plenty of cars to chose from and mod.( about 30ish).Also theres the new challenge series where you must compete in set races the game gives you, plus multiplayer. It really is a fantastic driving game- Yes its not as quick as Burnout, but the police chases really gives a set tension that no other game can match.Great graphics and ever changing music adds to this game. The hilarous FMV's .Cheesy as heck but soooo funny are worth watching alone.Add this to I believe the first NFS to be set in DAYTIME!!! makes it an essential purchase. Ignore the average Carbon pick this one instead you wont be disappointed in this racer.

NFS: Most Wanted has a Slow start, lots of cut scenes and flashbacks that made me initially reticent. The game then plays out like a cross between the film 'The fast and the the furious' and 'gone in 60 seconds' which is no bad thing. The game features a free roaming environment that sees you almost seamlessly moving from race to race, and challenge to challenge. this is a much more accomplished method of accessing the in-game features (garage etc.) as well as allowing the user to familiarise themselves with the environments (race tracks) and vehicles (customisable). This did remind me of a little of 'Quarantine ' a taxi game based on the Doom engine where you could drive from location to location picking up fares are required, and seamlessly moving from mission to mission.Graphically the game is highly accomplished and looks stunning on a widescreen monitor. There are some really nice blurring effects when reaching maximum speeds, interactive scenery and very nice car details. The highlight has to be the passing rain storms which form water droplets on your screen, then when the sun comes out the reflection of the sunlight on the puddles is hyper-realistic.On the downside the game controls do seem a little woolly. The creators have gone for a much more arcade feel rather than a 'Gran Turismo' all out car simulation. As such you don't need to be tweaking the controls constantly, in many ways it's more like sailing - you point the car in the rough direction you want to go and let it fish-tail it's way down the road. I played the game with the XBox 360 controller for Windows, this instantly turned my PC into what felt like a fully-fledged games console.Ultimately NFS: Most Wanted is a very slickly packaged game, and is very filmic in feel and presentation. Visually the games is outstanding, with enough longevity to keep the user hooked until the next installment. If you're looking for a game that will milk every last detail from your graphics card, will entertain for hours and allows you to drop in and out of the game world as time allows this is for you.

Lastability:-Thanks to the inventive blacklist storyline and the various elements that go with it this game will keep you going for a very long time, several weeks at least. 8/10Playability:-Pretty easy to pick up - just accelerate, accelerate and accelerate. The races are obviously going to be pretty self-explanatory and whilst the elastic band technique of the races can seem unfair it does add to the tension. The only thing I did find difficult to get to grips with was the drag races - the concept of changing gears is straightforward but the game seems to want to steer your car for you - fair enough, until a car/lorry appears in your path and suddenly it is obvious you are going to plough straight into it and the controller seems to cease to function.8/10Graphics:-The cars are modelled well, as are the various other traffic on the road. The scenery is stunning but you won't get to see it unless you happen to be watching someone else play. The cutscenes, particularly the initial ones, are nothing short of stunning and although a bold statement to make possibly the best ever seen on a Playstation (or at least the best I have seen). 9/10Sound:-I personally like most of the tracks but obviously hearing them over and over is going to grow tiresome even to the most tolerant of players. However, given how incredible the engine sounds are I turned the in-game music right down and cranked the stereo up so I could appreciate the sounds of the cars. Gran Turismo NEEDS this, each car sounds different and even simple tuning affects the sound. It took me a good couple of hours before I could stop grinning at just how good the cars sound, even the most basic Volkswagen Golf. Getting the Aston Martin/Lotus was a whole new experience. 9/10Overall 9/10 - Buy it!!!

Very impressive game indeed. I guess the great improvement in NFS game series started with Underground, which was not that excellent, then came the great Underground2 which was very nice and addictive. I decided to get NFS Most Wanted because I was sure it is gonna be something, I was right, the game hits you from the start with a good story line, you were a racer, lost your car and your girl, and now you gotta get your revenge by climbing up the Blacklist. The graphics, and the audio are excellent, the game feels so realistic, and attention to details is really good. It is so nice as well, to be able to race again under the sun.Selection of cars is so cool, you can have the Mercedes MClaren, and the super nice Carrera.Career mode is very good, although you can play some tricks to get to challenge the blacklist driver faster than usual, but that does not mean it is easy.COPS, yeah, cops are back, so cool. You can feel the thrill when you are being chased by five cop cars, and you are trying to escape. Definetly an excellent idea from EA to bring back the cops. The only bad thing is that the audio, as far as cops are concerned, is not really that great. There are some annoying things, like for instance, I could not combine a control system in which there is a button to change camera, and one for acceleration. I do not want to accelerate with the 'R' stick on my PS pad. It is much better to accelerate with 'X'.Anyways, the game is super, very addictive, very nice, great graphics, great idea and definetely worth playing.Way to go EA.

"Well, it is immeasurably good", writes my son. "The story is truly excellent. You are a racer with a really great car - you race number one on the blacklist - Razor. He messes with your car and takes it. The objective is to climb your way up the blacklist. The graphics are very good - nothing wrong with them. The car selection is cool as so many cars, including the super-fast porsche carerra GT and the Mercedes SLR Mclaren. However, I am saving the best bit till last. The best bit are the cops - they are amazing, especialy Condition 5 and 6. They are fast Chevys undercover version in condition 6 and unmarked versions in condition 5. Condition 4 are unmarked Vauxhall Monaros.Condition 3 are marked Vauxhall Monaros. Condition 2 are unmarked Honda Civics, as well as condition 1."Roadblocks also make this game good. I have some useful info on roadblocks - if they block the whole road, look for the sawhorse to ram through, and if they don't block the whole road, go through the section where it is not blocked. Pursuit breakers destroy the police vehicles if you smash them or they will force the police to stop and call for backup. Spikestrips are deadly! If you go over one, your car won't be able to move and you will get busted, so keep your eyes open. Seargent Cross is the most skilled police driver ever, he will appear in mid-condition 5 heis very deadly - he directs the strategies to surround you and bust you. Police helicopters are deadly because they really affect your visibility. I recommend you to buy this game immediately!"

I was not sure if I would like this game after reading some of the customer reviews but I have to say I am very impressed. Bearing in mind I have only seen the psp version! And I also have no tv in my room at the moment so my psp is my lifeline, and this game is going to help! The game itself took me very little time to get used to. By my 2 or 3rd race I was taking the racing line like a pro! As has been said, and I can confirm, the police do give you a hard time. But not so hard you cant do the races, maybe just restart a few! And that increases your satisfaction as you manage to nitro out of a corner, swerve round a car and hear that wonderfull sound of tinkling glass behind you!And someone (cant remember who) said you cant realy afford to buy the visual upgrades, well admitedly im still pretty early in it but i have all the current avilable upgrades available (performance and visual) and a tidy sum left over in the bank! Another added bonus (which I should be trying out soon!)is this is one of the few games lucky enough to be playable online! And of cource its going to be fun pitting your prefered style of car against someone else! Overall it just seems well done. The menus are simple (but granted they can be a little jerky at times!) EA Trax is there with the option to turn songs on and off. (and some not bad songs! even a mastadon song wedged in there!)Bearing in mind I normaly have very high standards for my games (have already returned several psp titles!) I was very pleasantly suprised! Definatly worth the money.

Having not played any Need for Speed games before I wasn't sure how this one would fair, but I'm not disapointed so far. I've not got that far yet but so far so good. The basic plot is you have to get more famous amoungst other street racers to move up the "blacklist" untill you race the #1 who stole your car from you at the very beginning. To do this you take on each of the 15 racers on the list, defeating them by completing races, challenges (escaping police, causing damage while chased) etc. You get money for winning these with which you can upgrade you car(s) buy engine, transmission, NO2, tires, body work, etc etc, and therefor improve your car. You get the idea. The graphics are pretty good.Although it is annoying that widescreen isn't supported out of the box - so be warned you'll have to tinker (go to [...] for help). The gameplay/driving is pretty good - noticable difference between cars. Although is abit annoying at times if you crash into a wall - can be hard to get off. Plus you dont really damage you car - just cosmetic. Maybe it'll get damaged nearer end of game? There are several different race modes - laps, speedcamera - average speed through cameras over race, dragrace - hard at first - manual gears!, check point - like in arcades....etcAll in all a pretty good racing game. Although I still think GTA is better gameover all as has good racing/driving (bigger maps) as well as lots of other things, depends what you fancy.Overall - good racing game. Well worth the £10!

This is a fantastic game. So much bigger than NFSU 2 (see my review written by Sam Wild). This is amazing in different ways. First, the cop chases, which makes this game so much better than NFSU 2. The new modes (speedtrap and tollbooth make it stand out in the crowd. The already present race modes like sprint etc have been improved so much, with bigger jumps and more scenery to crash into. The only bad race mode now is the drag. I have played both NFSU 1 and 2 with the shift button as X. They have changed how you rev at the start of a race, so when you go off the starting blocks your engine blows. But overall, pursuit is the best mode. In heat 1, cops will try to just ram you,in heat 2 you will have unmarked cars that will mainly put road blocks up. In heat 3, you will have Vauxhall Monaro's after you and specially made ramming vehicles called rhino's. In heat 4 police will deploy unmarked monaro's,spike strips, helicopters, and spiked roadblocks. In heat 5 police will deploy Chevrolet Corvette's, helicopters, spiked roadblocks and and unmarked rhino's. Heat level six has most cops in Rockport. Sargeant Cross (your main rival apart from Razor)and his street racin' units will come after you. The units are unmarked Corvette's. Also specially made suv's will chase after you. At this level police will try to catch you with everything they can get. In Heat 7 (only available on Black edition) all of the things mentioned will come after you.Overall what an AMAZING!!!! game.

I bought this on the day it was released, having played and owned NFS 2, NFSU and NFSU2, I had high expectations of this game. It certainly didn't disapoint!First of all the music and soundtracks, are amazing with some top line music groups performing perfect music for this. The graphics are better and the game runs much quicker and smoother, you can drive round in the free roam while the auto save goes on, so that your game play isn't interrupted! The actual racing is very competitive with some top line cars up for grabs, most things from a Fiat Punto Sport to a Porsche Carrera GT, BMW M3 GTR, Merecedes Mclaren SLR etc etc. enough to make even the mildest petrol head droool! You can then go on to adapt these cars, visually and mechanically like in the previous games. You can forget the knuckle dragging cops from previous games, the ones in these are brutal, as your race history builds up, the cops hunt you even more (building up your bounty), and they resort to helicopters, driving SUV's at you head on, spike strips, road blocks. Get caught three times and your ride is impounded! The free roam is really good with things like speed cameras built in and huge off road areas such as golf courses, parks and coast lines to test the cars abilities to.All in all i find this game to be 10/10. great AI in terms of competitiveness and also the cops trying to outwit you. Great ways to modify and change your cars round.

So some people say this game is rubbish, some say it's amazing. Well i have to say im part of the latter for this title. NFS:MW IS a game to be loved. One guy who reviewed this before me said it would only appeal to people who thought Fast and the furious was good and to kids sitting on walls with tricked out Novas, well he's wrong. Sure it does appeal to the people of this generation who like to mod cars, and especially people who don't have the money to.I on the other hand do have money to, and i'll admit it. I have a tricked out Honda Civic Coupe but does that make me more of an unknowing idiot and more biased towards a game like this? Not a chance. Over all this game is brilliant.I love the cop chases, i love the avoidance of spike strips and blistering down highways at 180mph in an Evo 8!Customization isn't as in depth as NFS:U2 but it's good none the less. It focuses alot more on performance mods to make your car handle and perform better. This game (despite what a previous review said) is realistic. I tried taking a corner at 192mph in my Evo and ended up squashed against a rail, my advice, slow down before you take it and accelerate out of it! The car does take damage but it doesn't hinder performance, i just know i don't like to see a gorgeous car destroyed by my dodgy driving. So basically this game is amazing, you should have no trouble settling into it and happy modding and escaping the police!

This is a truly astounding achievement by EA, on this version of Need For Speed. The hot exotic cars are back, coupled with a few favourite tuner cars from the previous Underground series. The graphics are amazing, considering I have a high-spec PC myself I was able to tune the graphics all the way to max, and still manage a solid 60 FPS, well enough to make any console tremble in their CD drive. The game sees you as an outsider, who's just made their way into the city, and you find yourself being squared off against the leader of the Blacklist, Razor. The story spans off from there. It is not the most enthralling story in the world, but the cutscenes are fantastic. At first glance you may think these are poorly acted scenes, but you get a feeling that they've done it so on purpose. The handling of the cars are becoming less and less arcadey, which is a good thing, if it wants to take on PGR 3. The pursuits make a wholehearted return, and they are hard. The AI are now brilliantly clever, you sometimes wonder how they know your location over the Police chatter than you can hear (Awesome, by the way). The sense of speed is becoming closer to something of Burnout, and the sound overall is excellent. If there are any flaws stopping it getting 5 stars, it would be that the game is a bit too unforgiving, especially once you get into the further parts of the game. This should be the most wanted game for Christmas.

Right lets get one thing straight here, I love this game but I have a top end games sytem that is running a Nvidia 7800 GTX Xtreme graphics card, which allows me to get the best out of the game, so I would say that if you dont have a good graphics card please dont moan if its not that good on your screen. Right now we have that out of the way i can tell you how good this game is, If your into cars I think you will love it, dont get me wrong its not GT legends type simulation, but if you want something that is arcade type easy to pick up, and gives you a fast hard hitting action then this is the one for you,in fact I have always wanted this type of games on the ps2 and the truth is that if you have a good pc setup running on a high res monitor it will make the PS2 look like very old ready for retirement. You know a good game when you still playing it at 1 in the morning ! And if you have ever seen the Cannonball films and Gumball where they out run the cops and always want to emulate it this is the game for you, Road blocks, helicopters, SUV Trucks are all part of the police plan to stop you and with the nitrous running in your car you just hit the button and keep going straight through the middle of them! Also there is a nice feature such as the pink slips, so if you win a race you can win there car from them and wither race it or sell it. I think this is a top game! and happy to reccomend it.
