When my old Trackpad started behaving erratically, I wasn’t sure how to replace it. The Trackpad 2 had very mixed reviews, and a lot of old Trackpad users seemed to hate it for various reasons. So I looked for a straight replacement on eBay, but then found a very nice looking Trackpad 2 at an incredible price and decided to try it. After all, if I didn’t get on with it, I could easily sell it again without loss. I have a feeling that the previous owner must have been one of those who hated the new model, since he sold it so cheaply. But I just love it. Within seconds of plugging in a Lightning cable, it was installed and worked with exactly the same setup as my old Trackpad. An hour later, the battery was at 100%, and I unplugged the cable. Bluetooth kicked in immediately with none of the usual pairing fuss.I’d say that even the feel of it is the same as my old pad, and I’m very fussy about tactile feedback. I had assigned left and right clicks to the left and right corners, and that’s how the new pad works too, with the “haptic engine” emulating the clicks very well.Mind you, like with my old pad, I have all touch-to-clicks switched off. They never worked for me, and erratic clicks drove me mad. But hey, no problem, just deselect them in the setup. I struggled a little with the new "force click", but I can get used to that. Some reviews make much of new Trackpad having a larger work surface due to losing the battery compartment. The new pad is a about an inch wider, but the same height as the old one, so it’s got nothing to do with the battery compartment. If anything I prefer the smaller size - it was easier to move on the desktop - hence the loss of one star.Read full review...

Some people don't like trackpads on laptops, so the idea of using one on a desktop machine seems worse. The Magic Trackpad really is a great device and so much easier than using a mouse. For one thing, of course, it doesn't move, so desk space ins't an issue. The major feature is that you can use all of the gestures from a laptop trackpad on your desktop machine. Swipe back and forth between browser pages or photographs, swipe up and down through pages of a document, or pinch and spread to zoom images. There's a host of macOS features that can be operated or accessed using a trackpad.Magic Trackpad 2 is a slightly different design - the working area is quite a bit bigger, without the overall size of the device growing that much. The whole of the surface is now used. A slightly lower profile makes it even more comfortable to use. The addition of Force Touch with enabled applications, expands your options in the same manner as it does on iPhone 6 and above. The track pad pairs with the computer automatically when plugged in with the provided Lightning to USB cable, which is also used to recharge the built in battery.Magic Trackpad 2 uses Bluetooth 4, so will only work with newer Macs, unlike the original model which will work with any Bluetooth enabled Mac.I've used both versions and I love them, but MT2 is an improvement on the original.Read full review...

I bought this because the 1st gen required AA batteries which I spent my life replacing or charging repeatedly. I upgraded both the trackpad and the keyboard to keep in step with the Apple ecosystem. The haptic feedback is a nice feature and force touch can be a very handy tool. I have read reports that the battery life is able to reach up to 1 month between charges, I cannot confirm or deny this as I am still only 2 weeks into owning the device but at this early stage it seems consistent with what others are saying. The only negative I have is the actual 'click'. Whilst I accept that it doesn't perform in the same manner as the previous generation the click on the new trackpad feels somewhat mediocre when pressing down compared to what I have been used to.On the whole this really is nitpicking and I am more than satisfied with the overall package.Read full review...

The tracking area is about double that of a Macbook, making it easier to use at a lower sensitivity and therefore more precise (eg for Photoshop, Illustrator, etc). The trackpad is big enough that you can set a corner as secondary click, something which I haven't done on my Mac because it annoyed me.Completely customisable and the '3D Touch' feature is ergonomically designed; it's not something you can activate accidentally but you don't have to press too hard for it.The batter life seems to be more than sufficient. I would say Apple's suggestion of recharging once per month is about accurate. In terms of design, it looks great, especially in the dark grey.It is essentially featureless and a nice addition to the minimalist set up on my desk.

Having used the Magic Mouse 1 for some time, I was increasingly drawn to the multi-touch and 3D Touch capabilities of Apple Trackpad 2. This product on eBay was £54 cheaper than the one on Apple Store. This was reason enough to take the plunge. The product was delivered far earlier than expected. It came well-packaged and was a genuine Apple product. The trackpad was a stunner to behold with a glass bottom and a smooth, white, glistening surface. It was instantly recognised by the Mac on connecting. It has been a treat to use and now I think how much better it is to use the Mac through this rather than the mouse. If you're still using a mouse, definitely go for this. And at this price,it's a no-brainer!

My original trackpad, ie the type with the two AA batteries became very suspect following ages of a maddening situation where the cursor would keep jumping backwards within the text. Despite many similar situations experienced by other Mac users and countless solutions which came to nothing, I finally bit the bullet and forked out for what is a typically expensive Apple product. That said, the Magic Trackpad seems to have cured the jumping cursor problem (for me at least). Its plusses are its larger area, shallower incline, very smooth surface and finally not needing to buy AA batteries for it as it's recharged via USB when necessary. As such, the plusses outweigh its cost.

Great price for the Magic Trackpad 2, works perfectly with Bluetooth 4 machines, also works with my older Bluetooth 2.1 MBP running Sierra as well. Yet to try it on Windows. Was undamaged and sealed in plastic wrap, like advertised.I've been using it for over a week on a single charge, it's still above 90% battery.Super responsive, there is some weird acceleration with the pointer, but it's easy to get used to.There is a small dead-zone, like 5mm, along the thinner near edge of the pad, but not a problem.Ideal for desktops or older Macbooks with outdated trackpads.I'm much faster with this than with a mouse.IMO the only sensible product Apple has made since 2012.

Expensive, but worth it. Wider but slimmer than the original, and the battery lasts longer than even the best rechargeables though I’d prefer replaceable rechargeable batteries to extend the product’s life.Overall feels much more ‘all of a piece’ than the last, and the mechanical power switch is miles better than the previous power/pairing button. Pairing is almost confusingly simple — just connect to the Mac with the lightning cable and it’s sorted.Otherwise, it’s pretty much everything that was nice about the previous model: accurate, good ‘click’ feel, and doesn’t scooch around on the desk.

I've previously used the original Mk 1 trackpad, which took AA batteries. The first one, the batteries leaked and got stuck inside. Previously, rechargeable AA's were not always a good fit, and were sometimes loose. The new model is rechargeable via standard Apple USB/Lightning connector, so no more worries about rechargeable batteries not fitting properly, and it also has a "two-level" touch sensitivity, so with a more prolonged touch, a highlighted piece of text or a link will open up within a smaller "quick look" style page.

Apple products are apple products, I have always used USB Apple mouse truck pad were small but still comfy, I didn't use Magic Trackpar 1, but this one is beautiful and huge and Trackkypaddy magically nice. I find it difficult to switch from mouse to track pad use them both at the same time. You must get used to it if you used mouse before, but if you use Trackpad, then Magic Track pad 2 is for everybody.

Being a new user to Apple products and not liking a trackpad on a laptop I was vary about buying this. Yes it is expensive but you get what you pay for. This has got to be one of my best buys and I love it. Very easy to use and, in my opinion, a lot better than the mouse that was supplied with my iMac. Plus I can use it while it's charging which it is while I'm writing this.

Brought to use with my new iMac. Unfortunately I haven't had to use it as I do prefer to use a mouse. I did use one like this at a family members, thought it was a good idea. I think if you use a laptop you will use this with ease. As the pad is the same. Not laptop literate. I won't be long before my grandson will nt to use it though.

I love this Mouse/Track pad and have owned the white one before but this one not only just as great to use but it looks stunning as well. I know that Apple's products are more expensive than others but you cannot argue with the quality. They have and still are making the best mouse pads or track pads around and its just a joy to use.

Having used the original trackpad for years, I wanted a new one after selling my old computer (and the pad along with it) to use with my laptop.Works even better than version 1, with a larger spread and force touch welcomed additions. But not more than it being rechargeable! No longer will I be scrabbling around for AAs.

Apple have made this superb trackpad even better, the functions are smooth and reliable. The built in rechargeable battery lasts and lasts.Having similar characteristics as the force touch on my macBook Pro, the track pad is a must, not only does it look good, it preforms with outstanding ability. Highly recommended.
