My Wifi Antennas were connected to the back of my PC. And my PC was in a cabinet. Needless to say not the ideal situation for a good signal. The signal would massively fluctuate down to no bars at times. Always stayed connected though. But couldn't even get my full internet speed.I started looking around for Wifi Adpaters so I can place one on top of the cabinet and out in the open. I figured I might as well spend the extra money and get a good one. I also got a new USB 3 hub. And bought a short USB 3 adapter so I can plug the Alfa into it and have it standing straight up for great reception (see attached photo). My computer is on the 3rd floor, and my router is on the 2nd floor in the Kitchen. The signal has to go through sheetrock, marble tile, some thick cork underlayment, and really tough bamboo flooring. It's working beautifully. The signal is rock solid. I'm actually getting faster internet speeds than I even thought I had. I'm only using the 5 Ghz wireless N though right now. I don't have an AC router yet. But since AC works off the 5 Ghz spectrum it should be great too.I should note that my photo shows different Antennas, that's because I had some other pretty robust ones I put on instead of the stock ones. The Stock ones are totally fine though. I'm not sure it mattered, it's just I already had them and the wire inside looked to be thicker, I figured maybe it offers less resistance and that could help. So I threw them on. The stock ones are plenty good quality though and were working great.I wish Amazon would put this one higher on the search results, I had to go pretty far to find this. I almost bought an older one that was cheaper but didn't look as good or have the newest specs. It's USB 3, it's wireless AC, it's the newest version. It works fantastic. Spend the little bit of extra money and get this one.*I'd also like to note that I did NOT install any of the drivers or software or anything on the CD. I just plugged it in and Windows 10 did everything instantly. I'd suggest you also do the same. You should really never use CD drivers or software. It's almost always out of date for anything you are installing. Either let windows do it or go download the latest and most up to date from a manufactures website.

I don't often give reviews as I am very skeptical of them, but on this occasion I simply had to as I was quite frankly stunned at the performance and there just aren't enough reviews from Mac users on Amazon!I have a rapidly aging early 2008 iMac running El Capital and the internal Wifi adapter refused to connect to my buildings router, I'm just one floor too far away for my Mac to connect, in fact quite often my Mac doesn't even find the buildings router! I took a punt on this device as to be fair it is very reasonably priced. I installed the provided drivers... Yes! El Capitan Drivers on the included CD! That alone is 5 stars right there!! A quick reboot as instructed by the driver installation software, then connected the device with fingers crossed... You just don't know with a Mac, it's always a case of connecting with one hand and crossing fingers with the other.... Would you believe it, miracle of miracles not only did it pick up my buildings router but also the router in the gym over the road!! I kid you not!! It's THAT good!! Ahhh but can it connect I hear you ask.... Absolutely! I connected with the router and within a few seconds I finally connected my wonderful, glorious, and still working marvellously, Apple iMac to 'tinternet via Wifi! Happy days! My mobile phone bill will breathe a sigh of relief at not having to bear the cost of tethering! So there must be cons you yell! Hmmm yes, it's USB 3.0 ONLY, so if you have a very very old computer, laptop, Mac, abacus.... then sadly it simply won't work. There you go, I hope this review helped, oh, and I purchased it myself with my own hard earned, it wasn't a freebie, or offered to me at a reduced cost, I didn't even get a lollipop!

I bought this adapter because I was going to a school to learn about cyber security. Mainly I was using since it has the ability to use both 2.4 and 5.0GHz, and it supports monitor mode. These options come in use when preforming WiFi Penetration Testing. The product itself works great and looks really cool when it is clipped to the top of a laptop. The biggest issue I had with it was no fault of its own. When running Kali Linux on VirtualBox, it can be hard to get the VM to register the usb Wifi Adapter that is plugged in. Every time I use it I spend about 15 minutes trying to get the two to communicate correctly. Once they do the product is incredibly effective at picking up Wifi Signals; I was able to see Wifi Signals that were roughly 5 houses away. This thing does everything it says it does and it does them well. If they could create something that would make integrating it into a VM that would be awesome, but it is still doable if you are willing to be patient.

I'm a teacher and this was a little more than I wanted to spend, but once installed and working, it was completely worth the money. I have had to isolate myself in part of the house that also happens to get the worse signal. With multiple users (Wife and kids all going to online school at the same time) using the wifi, I was having all kinds of issues teaching. I bought an electrical outlet plug in extender which works well for a smart phone or tablet, but not for high use video meetings and multiple activities online like a laptop. This was my last try before trying to move my in house classroom to a new room and honestly I was blown away. I am having tremendous speeds and no problems at all.Install was a little more complicated on the Mac, but once installed it was easy to use. (Be aware that the driver is on a disc that comes with the product, so you may need an external disc drive if you don't have one already) Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

This was recommended to me by a programmer friend because researching the mind-numbing products available is overwhelming. I work from an Airstream (inside a metal box) and while my Internet icon indicated full signal the actual strength of the connection (don't know the jargon so snicker away) was abysmal. Received this device today and that issue has been cured. No more buffering stalls while streaming video. No more yawning while waiting for pages to load. No more mobile hotspot usage. I have W10 Pro and no CD drive so while the install was not plug and play, it was easy enough to download the installation zip file. The next step was to Change Adapter under Status settings to the Realtek adapter (Wifi-3 for me). That was it! FREE and unfettered Internet. Such a happy airbug right now I need to go for a run so I can sleep. Did I mention it's super cute and comes with a clip? Photo cred: Me

If you are looking for a great USB wireless adapter with excellent range to connect to networks, this is a great device. Plug and play in Windows 10 means you are up and connected in little to no time. If this is you choice of use, skip the rest, you'll be happy with this wireless adapter! For the penetration testing crowd.Installing the drivers on Kali Linux is a bit of a PITA. For best results, search for "RTL8812au aircrack driver" Git clone and make per the directions before plugging in the interface. Also note that the commands for setting monitor mode are a bit more complex than just running airmon-ng. An easy way to tackle this is to write two Bash scripts, one for monitor and one for managed. However, once you are up and running this adapter performs very well. Also if you are planning to run this connected to a VM, make sure that your VM software is set to use USB 3.0!

I live near an Xfinity WiFi Hotspot, and my laptops internal network adapter could only pick the signal up on rare occasions - even when it was able to connect, the speeds were extremely slow. I ordered this item in an attempt to utilize that Hotspot, & it worked even better than I thought! I am now able to detect 20+ connections compared to maybe 5-6 with my internal Intel wireless adapter. Item received 4/5 Stars because it did not come with any useful instructions, & I was unable to find a tool to help me aim the antennae using the software it came with, even though the softwares description states that one of its features is a tool to help with aiming the antennae - my solution regarding that issue was to spend $14.99 for an omnidirectional high-gain screw-on antenna. This is the one I purchased, but it didn't seem to make any noticeable differences:

This device is commonly recommended on the best review sites. Best here meaning none sponsored and devices properly tested. It was easy to install and the construction is good.As is common the disc comes with very old drivers and the manufacturers website has broken links for updsates. Hopefully the latter will be repaired.Another upside is that this works on Linux.Overall I am pleased with its connectivity and operation which are very good indeed. Mine has to get through a brick wall and doge the plumbing and wiring and I am still getting very near a 100mb connection which is my max. It has a signal amplifier built in.

Firstly I drive semi. You get to a truck stop and you can buy a hour for $6 and so on. I use two 14 dbl directional antennas. The most I have seemed to reach is around 400 feet but still was transferring data at 36+ mbps. The driver is very useful with directional antennas allows you to pinpoint the router from the truck. My laptop is 3 years old and does not support AC with the standard chip but this allows my laptop to connect to AC networks with fast data transfer. I do recommend that before buying you know the application that you will use this product for so you don't waste your money and time.

Ok so as far as setup goes there is another review which says don't download use the cd provided and that is absolutely correct for my MacBook. I've just come back from 2 weeks in Barbados where the wifi in the common areas was free but you had to pay for in room wifi. With this little beauty i could surf the public wifi from my room without any hassle. My MacBook could detect the public wifi on its own but couldn't connect. Once i connected to the public wifi using this i could then turn my MacBook into a wifi hotspot for my wife to use with her iPad. It's paid for itself on the first holiday.

After dealing with the headache of getting my computer's default Ralink WIFI drivers to work with Linux (it kept randomly losing my wireless connection), I finally decided to blacklist them and purchase a USB network adapter. I'd read good reviews about the Alfa, so I decided to give it a shot. So far, so good. My computer immediately recognized the drivers, and I haven't had any issues with dropped signals. Granted, it's only been about three days, but by now, I would have had 20 or 30 dropped wireless signals with my old drivers. I couldn't be happier!

Reason for 4 stars and not 5. Read please.Supports injection. Updated drivers are not super easy to find.My ISP provides 250Mbps down / 25Mbps up. The router(ASUS RT-ARCH13 AC1300 Dual-Band Gigabit) is about 50ft away and through 3 walls. This will do 220Mbps/23Mbps. Usually has 90-100% signal strength.CONS!It tends to disconnect every so-often. It will just cut the connection. I'll need to unplug and reconnect. Happens about 1-2 times a week. (Power management/auto-off in windows settings and device settings turned off. I'm not dumb)

Not a bad adapter. Bought it to run on a VM. Works fine with VMware and Parallels but not VirtualBox. Can be difficult to set up and configure so if you don't have a technical background or understanding. I would steer away from this and get something that is a little more user friendly and has a GUI for set-up. Other than that, it's relatively powerful and looks great. I need more options and 802.11/ax support so I don't think I would buy this in the future but it is a solid network adapter if you can understand it and set it up.

It is OK compared to the technical details : the AWUS036ACH is MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN THE OLD AWUS036H ( very good already),BEST RESULT is Achieved with a small improvement : ONE 9DBI ANTENNA on RIGHT PLUG , One 5DBI ANTENNA on LEFT plug ( one of the2 of the original package) the intensity JUMPED from - 63dbi(AWUS036H) to -35dbi (AWUS036ACH).....It is plug's order sensitive , don't reverse R/L . Also the throughtput jumped from 110 KBytes to 140 KBytes , seems also MORE STABLE IN TIME which was my MOST IMPORTANT PROBLEM !!!

Bought this because it offers Linux compatibility. The Win 10 installation works as usual from a supplied installer, as detailed in the included instructions. The Linux installation is NOT addressed in the instructions. The supplied software just includes a generic set of driver components without ANY instructions. An email to tech support quickly provided a little bit of help, from which I was able to identify a web-based driver set I could install specific to my Linux distro. Once installed it works as expected.
