This is a great little box! I bought it when there was only 1 review on amazon and took a bit of a risk. Its got a very smart plastic case which looks very high quality. The drives insert well and the faceplate is securely held in place. The info lights are helpful but not very explanatory.I am using two WD Red 1Tb drives in it on RAID1 (mirrored) and am getting fairly good read/write. It took me around 45 mins to transfer 30Gb of data but this was whilst it was reconstructing the backup drive which would have an effect on performance. I will update my review when I've tried this properly. The instruction manuals are practically useless. "step 1: insert HDD, Step 2: turn on" is about all the quick start guide says. The initial interface that you're presented with is useless as well! half the features are missing! My suggestion to anyone who is buying this is to insert the drives, boot it up and let it run all its setup stuff. Then do the software update. Once its all updated do a factory reset on it and start from scratch where it will walk you through the setup and help explain the different things it can do.I use a mac primarily and it connects well. Not had any issues as of yet. I also use it for time machine backups which work well. Just be sure to set a quota or time machine will fill the entire drive. Some of the features on this product I will probably never need. It seems to be a very capable machine (capable of competing with synology and QNAP) It has the apple file transfer protocol, web interface and other standard.Overall a great little bit of kit at a budget price!**UPADATE**After running the drive for a whole university term, using it for backups and data storage it is still operating as if new.Photos and documents load relatively quickly with only a minor delay. I have tried streaming video from it but it is sadly plagued with buffering. I am however not sure if this is the network as I am now using the university network as opposed to my home network. For those of you using a BT Home hub (or actually just anyone) you will need to forward a port to the NAS to be able to access it from outside your local network. For those with a dynamic IP address DTDNS offer a free service to map your dynamic ip to a simple web name (xxxxx.dtdns.net) so you can always easily connect.I would still rate this NAS 5 stars and would definitely recommend it!

This is a good NAS if you can live with its somewat setbacks. These setbacks are that you must have the same size of hard drives and matching brands or it wont recognise them. Its a shame this hasnt been addressed with updates as there have been loads of firmware updates for this device but its good to see it still gets supported. My other main setback is that the firmware it comes with is quite old and it has to be updated from day one which is easy if you have some computer know how. The user interface isnt that great either if your a newbie, more effort could have been put into making it a bit easier to setup and navigate. I didnt have a problem myself but a newbie may have problems. For the good points of this NAS unit is that you can install upto 8tb,connect an additional external drive on the rear of the unit via the usb port, its very quiet and most of all there are lots of configurations in which this can be used for such as a media server, backup, cctv storage once you have got your head around the user interface. You can configure it remotely, via your lan on a internet browser or theres even a dedicated smartphone app too.Transfer of files is very good thanks to the gigabit. I average around 45mb/sec which is a lot faster compared to my seagate central or mybooklive which get around the mid 30s. I think this is due to the device having a more dedicated hardware based gigabit card built in rather than software based.Overall its a good product but not for a newbie. If you dont know what you are doing id go for a seagate central or a mybook live. I own both of these and they are far more easier to configure for a newbieAnother note is the NAS installs its OS to hard drive 1 so if you was to replace the drive you would have to backup your data or clone the hard drive first to avoid loosing anything. This device has potential to last many years due to the expansion capabilities. If you can afford to do it just max it out from the start by purchasing 2 8tb identical drives, go for seagate barracuda drives as i havent had any issues with these drives over the years.

My 5th purchase of a NAS drive and my favourite so far. Excellent functionality for the price. I installed WD 4tb Green drives after my only encounter with WD Red was disappointing in my previous Dlink320L NAS. The Lenovo and the WD Green drives are fast and responsive when you need them to be (for a NAS).(Since posting this I have had some issues - which I've now overcome, see my other comments in this post. Still happy with the units, just a little wiser now with how to configure and resolve issues - turn-off the 'periodic consistency check' under disk management is a key learning point, and to install the latest firmware before loading any data).

Sits happily on my home network as a media server. Web-Based config, not immediately intuitive but simple enough. My fave aspect is the built in Torrent Transmission client. Simple paste your torrent link into it and it downloads the files directly into a folder on to the RAID. No need to leave PCs on downloading at night. Plus my HUMAX box recognizes the media share and i can watch content directly. Very happy with this product.

(Purchased from Amazon, not a marketplace seller). Delivery was fast. Very nice NAS box.The first thing to do when you get this is to upgrade to the latest firmware. I've installed two 3 TB WD Red drives in this and it works great as a NAS and is quite stable. I don't use any of the other features though (Amazon S3, media streaming etc.) so can't comment on those.
