So far, so good. I am initially very pleased. It is somewhat smaller than I anticipated, although this is not a concern. It is very quiet, even when files are being copied to it. Setup is quite simple, but do bear in mind, when you first install disks, even if they have data on, the device will automatically format them, so you'll lose anything on them.Unfortunately, there isn't any way to "wake" the device, if you put it into "sleep" mode (this can be done through the software). If you set it to "sleep" the device, you'll have to wait until you set it to "wake" it again. This is somewhat frustrating. The "sleep" mode is an excellent feature to save power, but not being able to manually "awaken" it is,to my mind, a slight annoyance.I'm only using mine as a back up device, so cannot comment on the other features. However, they look to be fairly simple to setup. Fortunately, the MAC address is marked on the device, so an IP address can be assigned manually via DHCP, or you can manually enter an IP address, or just allow DHCP to do its job. Either way, it works without a fuss.

The product is much smaller than it looks on the picture. Basically it is equivalent to approximately the size of the two hard drives. For home use this is great as it sits on the shelf nicely. Has one extra USB connection to put another hard drive on. This seems primarily to back up the NAS if you want. Setup is easy, just connect to router, it gets assigned an IP address and it's up and running. The Web interface is relatively straight forward to use with all the features I need. Created a mount for home share, one for sharing files on the Web and an ftp server. You have use groups and users for access rights to the relevant areas so if you want to give people access to certain files withlimited rights you can.Minor grips is that it comes configured with raid 1 so you only get half the storage to start with and there is no mechanism to locally transfer large files that I had on my old USB drive. It took about 10 hours to transfer everything I wanted across the network.Overall very happy

Buffalo tends to be considered after more popular brands such as Synology and QNAP. I've been thoroughly impressed with this device I opted for 8GB model and elected to have in EAID configuration so that one drivexovers the other for redundancy. What I've found most impressive Is the DLNA options. Family can watch films on multiple devices simultaneously. Whether fire stick, smart tv, smart phone etc. The web access also works really well. It's great to be able to share an active link to a specific file... this makes it possible to enable family members overseas to access HD versions of your family films without needing to upload a version online. Many options for automatically backing up...I noticed a few comments regarding noise levels but I've been thoroughly impressed and definitely not noticed any significant background noise, despite my device being positioned on the floor in the home studio. All in all thoroughly impressed and definitely great value!

Great Ethernet backup device. I took it out of the box and connected it up and then configured it. All done in about 10 minutes. The two 3TB drives are set to mirror each other by default and so I did not have to change it.Just a couple of points of advice.1) If the front light of the device shows red then you need to update the firmware - a simple task via the configuration screen.2)A "Trashbox" directory is created automatically on the system. I did not want this as it purely took up space. To eliminate it start NAS Navigator2 and then select the drive and settings. This will start the configuration window; then select Advanced Settings and then select "Folder Setup" and the edit function icon to the right. Then select the name of the drive (usually share) and the settings of the drive will be shown. Edit this to Disable the Recycle Bin. It is easier doing than describing!

So far so good.Arrived on time. Very well packaged - as I expected. Reasonably easy to set up if you have some previous experience or technical knowledge. Works quietly and look smaller, than I expected. The speed is good (using SMB or FTP). I recommend using FTP for file transfer initially.I have some problems connecting my mac using AFP and I did not succeed to get Time Machine to work on it. I will continue to try, but there is no good support - many questions with no answers on forum website.I use almost all services and applications it provides. BitTorrent client, Web Server and MySQL works fine. Versions are not latest but for home use are goot. This is my 3th device I have. Previous was LS-X3.Bad experience and it failed after 1,5 year and I loose all data on it. I hope this one will stand up more.It is now, after a week of experience.

I was in two minds as to whether to give this item 3 or 4 stars. Overall it's pretty good, and the software of this particular drive is much better than the early versions which I used with my first Buffalo NAS. It's easier to setup and there's lots of useful features. I bought the 2x4tb version, and it's a lot of space for not a lot of money. I use it as a mirrored drive so that it creates writes the same data to both drives, so if one fails, you don't lose everything. Obviously this only gives me 4tb of usable space. My only real gripe is the upload/write speed. It seems to be very slow. Much slower than my router allows. It can also be a little slow to respond when trying to navigate files.I can still stream movies from it though.

Easy to install and use. Plugged into a spare port in my Router as per Quick Start Guide instructions, powered up and it performs as it should. Initially, its fan goes at full pelt and I was concerned this would continue, but it calms down to unnoticeable levels once it settles down.I use mine for local storage only and it just behaves like a hard drive on my network. With this model, there is a switch to power up/down instead of my previous model where you had to use pc to command it to shut down. Movies streamed to TV are smooth, which is my primary use for it. My only tip would be to go for as big a drive as you can as it soon fills up.

I purchased this at the beginning of October -Bare Unit - no Disks as I had a couple of WD 4Tb's.Had trouble at first with an error but a call to Buffalo Tech support (based in the UK/Ireland) pointed me in the right direction to resolve it. I must say that I contacted Technical support on two occasions and the support was brilliant. Calls were answered in less than 30 seconds by support staff who knew the product very very well. The Unit has been working perfectly and has a very good and straight forward Web Interface. Has everything the average home user could want. DNLA is a breeze. Highly recommended

This is a great network drive. We have a Mac network with an Apple server, and we wanted to have a stable, robust additional storage for files that aren’t needed every day, but still need to be accessible, and this drive is perfect for that. We also opted for the red disks so that they were specially designed for random accessing. It was easy to set up, and after about three attempts I finally worked out how to set it to back up from one internal disk to the another using the internal back up software but not using the raid system, as this didn’t look quite right for our needs after further investigation.

Great little NAS. I didn’t need Plex, DLNA or other streaming bells and whistles as I have these taken care of by other devices on the LAN. With that in mind, I bought this for Buffalo’s reliability and the fact the case is large and has a fan. I’m fed up of replacing Seagate NASs and WD NASs due to overheating drives in claustrophobic enclosures.People criticise the interface on test Buffalos. It’s fine. It does the job quickly and without fuss. You want an interface that looks like iOS? Spend an extra £250 on a QNAP or Synology. For the price you won’t find a better and more well built NAS.

I set this up on our home network as effectively a personal cloud, so we can access photos etc from our phones as well as providing a backup for them from the PC hard drive. I used RAID configuration so the data is duplicated (though of course that means that you only have 2TB of space). The setup on both PCs and Android phones was easy and smooth (not tried on Macs yet, sorry). The initial data transfer did take some time, as you might expect, but now the files are accessible speedily. The disk hum is audible in a quiet room (our router is next to the TV in our lounge), but not badly so.

Had a couple of Maxtor 250GB drives hanging about doing nothing so decided to get one of these and mount them in RAID format. Installation software a little fiddly (you get referred to the Buffalo site) but got there in the end and it works fine on my network. The enclosure is quite compact and fits behind a door easily enough. A fairly noisy fan kicks in when the unit is first turned on, but it quietens quickly and then isn't obtrusive. It's slower than commercial clouds but I don't mind that as it will be used for backup mainly and not for fast file access.

For the price I am really impressed with this NAS. I went for the Seagate 4TB NAS drive and using CAT 5e cabling through to a Nighthawk R7000 I am getting write speeds from 30-53 Mb's which is not bad at all. I need to purchase the 2nd 4TB NAS at some point to run RAID backups to but in the mean time I am please for what I have. I'm using XBMC to connect all the other kit in the House as the DLNA activity is the theme here for home use. From Home Movies to Music on the network it delivers for a family and does exactly what I wanted it for.

I liked the case design and its virtually silent operation. I fitted two 500GB drives one from my old Win 7 PC and one from a S*y HD box that had failed. Just using it for backup using Windows Backup. The big disappointment was the bundled backup software which didn't like to be installed on Win 10 64bit PC. No support promised nor provided. This replaced my older Buffalo NAS drive which is no longer supported for Win 10. I can still get at it from other PCs 7 and 10 on my home network using Power-link devices down the mains.

Easy to use. Fast DLNA server. Came with WD Green HDD which are very economical and reliable. It is an option to run the NAS driive in RAID format.... this basically means that everything is mirrored across the two disks. So if anything was to fail on either disk, you would have a perfect copy on the other disk. It does mean that with 2 X 3TB disks, you still only get 3 TB of storage (as one disk is purely to copy the other disk) but it is the safest way of having a hard copy back up of everything.
