I haven't used the drive that much but I have created backups of all the computers and drives I have which was the main pupose of the purchase. The firware update took maybe 5-10 hours or more and it didn't seem to complete it. Eventually I turned the power off a couple of hours after the firmware version had changed on the device information hoping it won't mess the product up. And it didn't.The only issue I had was that after a few weeks the NAVnavigator wasn't finding the drive neither Windows even though it was turned on. I had to move the ethernet cable onto a different port which sorted the problem.I haven't used the stream to TV etc.features so I don't know how well they work. The Nova Backup software which comes with it wasn't working over the wireless (or there was some issue but I can't remember what) so I'm using other backup software which works ok.The power saving feature is good - so much that you can set it to switch off at 25:00hrs, 27:00hrs or whatever. ;)Can't really complain about the product.

It was really easy to configure. I use Linux so there is no software available, but connected it to the network, got IP from DCHP and was able to connect over http and I changed to static IP.It has a share pre-configured that I was able to mount as a Windows drive to start copying data across.Experience from a Windows laptop was as easy just running \\IP and you are done.It also runs a DLNA server that allows me to see movies (pictures and music too) directly from a TV connected to the same network. It did a software upgrade which was easy, even though it takes a while to download and install.Power management is a nice feature that allows you to configure when you want the unit to be up andwhen sleeping so you don't waste energy (I tried it but it failed come came back up and had to restart). You won't need to worry about noise as there is no fan.I don't use any type of authorization or remote access but they are available, as well as a BitTorrent client.

I bought this primarily as a backup device for 4 locally-networked computers, and for remote access via phone, tablet and pc to a few specific files. The capacity / £ is pretty good.Installation on the network was simple and went without a hitch, and drag & drop (manual) backup from PCs works fine. It's pretty quiet and setting up overnight sleep was simple. I have so far done two firmware updates which have gone without any problems.I have set up folders for internal network document sharing and one for remote access. Remote access via a browser works OK. I have installed the Buffalo Webaccess app on both an android phone and an android tablet. The app is a bit flaky and is prone to stopping and crashing, and doesn't support SSL so I have encrypted and password protected all files that are remote-accessible (Microsoft won't let folders be protected so you have to work at the individual file level).Overall very pleased. Just the flaky app loses it a star.

I keep all my home media on this, HD films for watching on TV, photos for backup and watching on iPad and TV, and music that I play through TV. It will basically easily connect with any DNLA device. I accidentally found my PS3 could play things from it - although Sony make the PS3 refuse many popular film formats like MKV. I upload content with a laptop and play it on my DNLA TV (you will need Internet cable or WiFi), my TV is 2 years old so I use a Buffalo Link Theatre to connect and play files. A note on Buffalo service -excellent! My girlfriend fried this product with the Internet router power adaptor and Buffalo sent me a new one. I'll certainly be sticking with their products. Japanese quality.Although I see hard drive prices are still high thanks to the Thai floods! accessing files remotely by the web also works great, although my iPhobe can't play many formats... Files to be shared need to be put in a seperate folder for sharing, which helps security.

Got this to replace a hard drive that gave up the ghost, and was told it would cost me i the hundreds to get the pictures, videos etc from it. I was advised to get this product, ad I could share everythig wi-fi with all products such as smart TV, laptops and my adroid tablet & phone.Only one thing that I can say I didn't much like, and that was it was a little tricky to setup the product and the info given with it was lacking; it's almost as if it was written for folks who know about these things and don't need it.Now it is up-ad-running, I can't say I have any complaints. My laptop which is connected often fails to recognise it, and it means bootig it up again.

I spent quite a lot of time looking for a NAS that I could just plug in and then use the web interface to tailor to my needs. This unit does exactly that and within 10minutes I was up and running and playing videos over the DLNA server. It runs quietly but generates quite a lot of heat and I have seen some comments on web sites about the unit overheating, however I have the unit on a table out in open air and have not experienced any issues so far. This device has gigabit and you can definitely see the difference when loading all your data on to it. Backups have been tried with Windows and Time Machine and so far so good!

The linkstation is a very good buy i feel, it isnt the fastest drive in the world but the transfer speeds arent too shabby, the web access feature works well but relies upon a fast upload speed from your internet connection to work away from home people who dont have this and are thinking about buying it for this feature should have a rethink, basically anything less than 1 MEG upload speed and retreiving video's or music from a remote location is far too slow. if just retreiving documents and the like then no problem, i still feel this is a really good product for the price paid.

Works well and provides the expected storage. Its on a 100MBit area of my network and gives 8-10MB/s transfer speeds so pretty good. The only downpoint that removed it from a 5 star review was that the NovaStor software that comes with it instantly asks you to do a "free" upgrade. The free upgrade actually costs quite a bit of money in "handling" fee. You can refuse this which I did and use the version that comes with the software.

Great product. Relatively easy to set up but some of the setting not easy to understand and with only having an online user manual it's not the easiest of things to follow.Great thing to have with a smart tv as automatically 'links' to your tv so music, photos etc stored on the drive can easily be played through the tele / sound system linked to it

I purchased mine a few months ago and have been using it almost constantly since and it hasnt missed a beat.Have taken 1 star away because the built in BitTorrent Client is slightly disappointing as its the utorrent beta webui from a few years ago so several very useful features are missing, and buffalo seem to have no intention of updating it.

I brought this as I wanted something on the network so I brought this. It only has Ethernet connection so don't buy this if you are looking for USB or any other connection other than Ethernet. It seems reasonable quiet and works pretty well. I haven't had any issues with it yet.I'm using it on a mac.

We are a small charity that had 3 computers but had problems sharing our files. We'd had problems for over 4 years and buying this product solved all our problems! It works a treat, we all have access to the database from any computer and also all the live files! Well worth the money easy to install.

Connected to the router makes having a laptop connected via wifi enables an always available backup device. A bit slow maybe via wifi but security of data is more important. Have prepared a batch file to provide a swift attribute driven backup to the NAS.

Item received, connected to the network and it was up and running straight away. My home network PC's all could see the device. My media streamer which is a WDTV Live also read the NAS with no problems at all.I'd recommend this item.

Reliable, works well with DNLA TV's (I have a Samsung), pretty easy setup and works well with other devices. Can be a bit slow at times using the in-built BitTorrent client but otherwise a super piece of kit.
