Firstly this is not a plug and play device, you will need to configure it first.It took me a couple of hours but once it's working, it works.Beware that you need to go on the Web GUI to shut down the device if you need to power it off.I highly recommend this AP. I've been looking around for something good and stable to replace the standard wireless that comes with the ISP's 'router'. I will warn potential buyers that you will need to understand how wireless works and have some basic networking knowledge.The box doesn't come with useful instructions, you will need to go to Zyxel's homepage and find documentation there.This device uses Gigabit Ethernet (1000Mbps).I was nearly fooled into buying a different wireless 802.11AC device that only has Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps)!!Why buy AC1200 wireless if your going to be bottlenecked by your LAN connection right?It really does look like a smoke alarm.**Update**I wrote this review Oct 2017.Update for June 2019.Still going strong. In the past I had issues where wireless would die using the ISP's 'hub' which results in restarting their device. Now I've disabled wireless on their 'hub' and started using this, no issues whatsoever. Not had to restart the ISP's hub.The only reason I'm reviewing this again is because I'm looking at buying another for my parent's house.My setup: I've got a Netgear switch which provides Power over Ethernet (PoE) to my Access Point. I've placed my AP by the stairs in the middle of the house and wired it at the edge of the rooms and under the carpet, concealing majority of the wiring. This gives better coverage than being located at one side of the house.

Once you've configured this ZyXEL access point it just gets on and does a great job of providing excellent WiFi coverage. This is a professional piece of kit and you do need to download and read the comprehensive 130-odd page manual from the ZyXEL website. As an IT professional it wasn't too hard to configure, but many would find it useful to have a 'simple configuration' guide which is sadly missing. I suppose I could dock a star for that, but I'm not going to as this device works so well.It will work as a simple repeater but to relegate it to that task defeats the object of using it. Using it as a true access point (AP) hardwired back to the main router is the way to go.I've used various repeaters before to extend my VirginMedia SuperHub v2 which is located in my office to one side of my house and found them wanting, especially when streaming video.I have the AP mounted high on the wall in my hallway roughly centrally in my 5 bed, 3 story, 1930's house and coverage is excellent. It generates significantly more transmit power and has a more sensitive receiver than the SuperHub; side by side there's no comparison on range and while both give a 72Mbps link speed (on 2.4GHz band) the ZyXEL has almost twice the throughput measured using Speedtest.net (yes, crude but a useful comparator) and, of course, its physically much easier to install in a useful location.Though supplied with a wall wart power adaptor the real beauty of this unit is its Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability which makes it a doddle to install requiring just the data cable and no worries about finding a power socket nearby. Excellent range! The new cloud management has so many benefits that I doubt I will consider any product without cloud management function!There are many devices in my house that every time when I need to log into them, finding the password is always a challenge. I knew maybe I need to write it down, but it’s not a best idea when you have a teenager at home. Why these devices can not like my amazon account just send me email to reset my password? Now I found it. This great looking WiFi access point not only has a sleek appearance, good coverage but also a nice looking cloud management interface. It is like any cloud service you will no longer to remember IP addresses,or user name/password.There are good features like guest portal that I don’t need to share my wifi password to all the guests, they won’t have chance to sneak into my NAS either. I also set WiFi schedule that my son can’t connect WiFi after AM2:00. It is a surprise that an access point can do so many things, I can see what time my son comes home because once he is home, his phone gets connected, or even how many friends he brought home, and I can guess the names from the connected device name. A good tool for a worrisome father.

Over the past 18 months I have purchased 4 of these Zyxel Access Points (AP) as my WiFi needs have grown. They certainly deliver the goods!!!I power each device locally using the supplied 12v plug-in PSU. Each AP is connected back to a HP Procurve switch using CAT6 cables. Dual band (2.4GHz & 5GHz) coverage is very good - no dead spots - even with two thick stone walls between the AP and the receiving devices. Impressive signal penetration.I use the Zyxel cloud-based Nebular Control Centre (free version) to manage my four APs. This allows me to see how each AP is performing and how much traffic each AP is carrying AND how many users are on each AP.Using my phone and the Zyxel app to scan the bar code on the box allowed me to add the AP to my Nebular Control Centre (NCC) and configure the IP address, subnet mask, DNS and gateway of the new AP before even unpacking the box! Then connecting the network cable and power starts the AP going through its configuration cycle pulling in the network configuration I had already set up on the NCC. This is how device management should be! Well done Zyxel. Very Impressive.

First review I’ve ever left on Amazon. Finding decent Wifi kit can be a nightmare. If you are Techy enough to be looking at this product then you will have no problem setting it up. Be mindful though that you will need power over Ethernet adapter at the other end if you are running it as a separate hard wired AP to boost the signal in your home. We had a new loft conversion recently and I left a cable behind the walls to take this up there and it has worked fantastic since day 1 (had it for 4 months now). Way better than the signal from the standard Virgin Router downstairs and has generally boosted the WiFi signal across much of the house to full bar. We have a 5 bed detached with old brick walls,not studs (other than in the loft conversion) and it does the job, even connecting iPhones first time, all the time which I have always found is weirdly and irritating not straightforward at all. The box is very low profile, you don’t even know it’s there. Just hangs like a smoke alarm and has no trouble carrying multiple devices at the same time.

If you know a modem from a router and a router from a switch - if your happy to spend some time on configuration and updating firmware - this device is solid. Mine is setup as a WiFi access point with wired Ethernet into the device from ISP supplied router. Power from supplied mains adaptor into device. All WiFi access to my LAN through the device.I would update the firmware as a first step - this changed the web interface completely on mine! Has 2 separate WiFi radios 2.5 / 5.0 which can be configured with their own profiles - or both run off same profile. i.e. they can have two different names visible to phones etc and different passwords.Allows your configuration to be backed up on the device and allows it to be copied to your connected computer.

I have now purchased 3 of these Access Points for use accross 2 sites. So far I am please with their performance and monitoring capabilities.Straight away from when they were connected we could notice a dramatic speed increase by nearly double the old system.The SSIDs and Splash screen were very easy to configure through the web interface and RADIUS integration was very straight forward.Unfortunately I do not have capability to run on PoE yet, so I cannot comment on the performance of this.The only issue that occurred was during the setup when I had to manually disconnect and reconnect the APs because they would not automatically connect to the cloud management. Once this had been corrected,there have been no further issues.

Only had this for 24 hours but was delighted at how easy it is to set up. Earlier reviews had worried me that it was not straight forward. It took a couple of minutes to work out how to access it. I could not get into it using the default address 192.168.1.2 via an Ethernet connection but configured wirelessly using 1.1.1.1 and ran the wizard to set up all really easy and once saved I can access by the default ip address. To change settings just rerun the wizard and save settings. As someone else mentioned there is no power button so need to log in to device to poer off.

Good signal strength all around house.Multiple SSIDs - routed to different tagged VLANs - are possible - even if the config is not entirely obvious.Obviously to do this you need a VLAN capable switch/router/firewall...Nice to be able to separate the older devices and have a 'fast' WiFi connection enabled.The WebUI is a bit dated, and the configuration logic can be a little confusing, but since I don't spend all that much time configuring it, I'm OK with that...

This is a really great product to improve and upgrade a wireless network. Very easy to set up with the Nebula mobile app. Just plug in the poe power supply plug the data cable then just scan the Qcode on the device and it is automatically loaded and set up. The range is much better than my old router providing more consistent performance across the house. Nebula makes it easy to manage and provides great information on who is using the network.

Brillaint AP's, bear in mind that they will need a firmware update before they can be seen on the Nebula Centre, but once updated and added they can be managed remotely via the cloud.Nice an easy to configure once on the cloud and they are providing brilliant coverage in my house with 1 on each floor.Highly recommend these APs I am very happy with my purchase.
