I'm not a big fan of gaming and certainly no expert at it and what my brother finds easy, I find very difficult. What I do like about this is that you don't have to remember lots and lots of special moves, though there are some for the more advanced gamers to commit to memory if they want. Unlocking other characters and costumes adds a little variation on a theme and takes you back down memory lane, but care needs to be taken to avoid confusion with some characters looking similar. My only complaint was that once the missions are completed and Master Mould is defeated...that's it, unless you want to go right back to the start. Levelling up characters and completing Danger Room challenges makes characters stronger, and I found that using Cyclops, Storm, Wolvie and Iceman added some pretty high scoring combos. Let the others attack and then blast with Cyke from a distance and watch those points get racked up...Yes, there are limited scenarios, but the overall story is not disjointed too much, and it is a great introduction to Legends 2 - The Rise of Apocalypse, which I have just started playing. I actually went online to search for information regarding the whereabouts of all the Danger Room discs, as some are well hidden and nigh on impossible to find unless you smash everything in sight and explore every nook and cranny of a level - which is tedious. it also takes a hell of a long time to get the power trees completely filled - in fact on my first outing I had lots of empty boxes and inaccessible tricks to use. Danger Room Challenges are very limited in scope, with a lot of the scenes being the same, and lots of them are very difficult unless you know how to get around them...which is why the game guide is probably useful, as was the online Walkthrough I accessed. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this, and my nephew is now on with it. Each time I play it I just try to find more discs, level up more often and see if it gets better. Playing as Magneto for the Endgame might have been useful too, but I found that a lot of the characters were added extras that were never used. Jean Grey has her uses for some levels but Beast and Colossus less often and Gambit, Nightcrawler, Emma Frost and Magma were only used when they had to be, and Jubilee and Psylocke never, except on Danger Room challenges for extra rewards. Well worth buying, as it is endless hours of fun. I drove my missus wild with the constant cries of "Combo!" and "Super Combo!" from the CPU.

I have been a fan of the X-Men stories for years (back when people would look at you funny if you mentioned Wolverine or Colossus). When I heard that they were going to try and design a game where you could conrol a team of your favourite X-Men - well the anticipation was hard to bear. What usually happens next is disappointment. Not this time. The developers have got it spot on. The little phrases the characters utter, the various relationships between them and, much to my pleasure, it is based on the comics - not the cartoons. This means people like Jubilee are much better. It is up to you to pick the appropiate four X-Men for your team to progress through each level. It helps to have a leader like Cyclops or Storm.Iceman, Jean Grey or Magma can create bridges. It is up to you to get the blend just right, but it can be frustrating when you discover that you cannot go forward unless you bring back Cyclops to optic blast something (a minor complaint - you figure out who is going to be needed fairly quickly). The graphics are great, with the powers shown to fantastic effect. I agree with a previous reviewer, who said that some bits look a little PS1-ish, but I believe that this is just the briefing scenes. The main game looks great and is easy to control. The game has an excellent storyline and the developers have done great again, by hiring 'Man Of Action' to pen the story. Many in this group used to work for Marvel, writing X-Men comics - so they know their stuff. The flashback sequences that you can play are also excellent, without distracting from the main story. The chance to take on Sentinels, fight Juggernaught at the X-Manision or take a trip down memory lane with Logan, when he burst out of the tank at Weapon X, is amazing. Here I am drooling as a fan and yet those who may not be familiar with the various nuances of the X-Men world can easily get into this and be rewarded for learning about it through the Alison (Magma) charachter.I have waited a long time for the X-Men to get some decent treatment by console game developers. Now I hear the response to this game is so good that Raven are already beginning development of a sequel game. I cannot wait.I recommend this game to all - one of the few games which you will feel that you are getting your moneys worth from.X-cellent! (Sorry I could not help myself)

This game follows the story of a young girl, Alison, who graduates to become an X-Man called Magma (who I grew quite attatched to after the first few one-player-only missions) and the X-Men fighting to stop Magneto's Brotherhood. I have many superhero games; five Spider-Man ones, Fantastic Four, Batman Begins, Superman Returns, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and X-Men Legends II (which I actually purchased before this) and due to me and my sister defeating Apocalypse in II, I decided to buy this. At first, I was sadly disappointed. I expected to create my own team from the start, and instead of the deadly combination of Gambit, Rogue and Nightcrawler hailing from our other game, we were stuck with Cyclops,Storm and Jean Grey, the only redeeming factor being Wolverine. However, as we progressed past theseabysmal characters and unlocked more, we were glued to the screen to hours. It always seemed to be Wolverine in trouble; he was left alone at various hilarious points like the Sentinel flashback (having to defeat a whole horde of Sentinels), the Morlock tunnels (where a huge swarm of evil mutants lived) and in the battle against Pyro (a flame-wielding Brotherhood member). However, due to his healing factor, Wolverine prevailed against these amazing odds. We swiftly unlocked our favourite characters and steamrollered the rest of the game. Nightcrawler, whose teleporting power was useful when rooting out hidden snipers, and Wolverine were mine while Rogue (a super-strong Southern girl) and Gambit (a French guy who lobs purple energy cards at people (!)) were my sister's, and they were all a deadly combination. The bosses proved easy, and only Avalanche and Sabertooth supplied resistance. The only bad point I wish to raise is not having good characters at the start. Being left alone against an army of soldiers and a tank as Storm is not much fun. The other thing that amazed me was Emma Frost. She is unlocked quite late in the game, but she is absolutely awful. She cannot fight in close combat to save her life (literally) and has no useful powers. All in all, however, this is a great game that should appeal to X-Men fans, if only to hear Wolverine say, "I'm the best at what I do,"

Playing as the X-Men is great and features lots of characters (including many I had never heard of) each with very cool, unique powers. The graphics have a very nice comic-book style whilst flaunting 3d effects which is a very unique and impressive combination I had not seen previously. When you first start the game there is a news show on the TV and the footage actually looks real. So much so, that when I played the start to my friends, they didn't even know it was a game. Like many action RPGs however, the gameplay can get slightly repetitive in that you are just going around killing enemy after enemy in a similar fashion. The game does however allow you to switch between your team of 4 mutants during a fight and this provides a lot of variety,as each mutant possesses individual powers that you will recognise from the comic books. There are lots of nostalgic unlockables throughout the game such as comic books, original art designs, movies and discs where you can play through scenarios in the danger room.Apart from the main storyline you can occupy your time fighting through scenarios in the danger room and playing through flashbacks. These are a welcome change.I thought that the constant visits back to the mansion between missions were slightly unnecessary however and became a bit boring. Each character can have four mutant abilities which can be levelled up and can be used. Each character also has several other passive abilities which benefit either them or the entire team. With each level-up you are awarded points to assign to each of these skills. The level cap (at 45 I think) is implemented such that you can not obtain all the skills available to a particular character. In other words, you must make your choices wisely and plan your spending. You can also upgrade your basic attributes to increase health, defense, attack etc. The reason this game loses a star is simply because of the repetitiveness and no presence of tactics. The lack of a blocking element means you are always on the offensive, almost similar to button-bashing. Overall it is a good game worth the price, so I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good action RPG.

One of my favourite games ever! X-Men Legends is a hidden gem on the PS2 and one of the best X-Men games. With 15 playable character in the story mode as well as many more in the Danger Room, in addition to many levels, a variety of items to unlock and fantastic music for each level, it is a game you should pick up. The story is simple yet dark, as Magneto is trying to give mutants superiority over humans but when General Kincaid and others enter the story, it takes a darker turn. Gameplay is fun, being able to combine 4 characters to make your favourite team and fight the Brotherhood, the Morlocks and Sentinels among others. The game has very few bugs and very few problems.I have played through the game many times and the only problems I ever occur are teammates falling into pits and dying occasionally and the occasional bug (maybe one every playthrough). Also, the graphics aren't the best for the PS2 but the story, gameplay and music make up for this.

While X-men legends does suffer on its graphics (very PS1), its gameply makes up for that, it offers players up to 15 X-men charicters all with diffrent strenghts and ablilities, to tackle the diffrent missions. While giving the players diffrent opponents, who possess diffrent, weakness, meaning that no one character is superior.Within the game the player can train, and upgrade the characters, with bonus missions, inculding charcter challenges, as well as being able to switch between any of the four current team members at any time in the game. But one of the best things about this game is the two player benifit, as not only does it not let players hurt their co-playrers characters (by accident or otherwise,he he he). It also offers a drop-in for new players, so rather than restarting a new game a player can just jump in to a currnet game. With a excellent storyline this make X-men legends a great game to play alone, but a must play game with friends.

At last an X-Men game thats good. Choosing a team of 4 X-Characters (From 15 unlockable characters) you get to take on the Brotherhood, Morlocks and Sentinals in a variaty of landscapes. The games creaters have mixed together the Ultimate X-verse and the normal Marvel universe to create a fresh but familar feeling that sits right for the game. The game itself is RPG (destroy enough enemies to grow and then choose new attributes)/team based (choose the right characters to complete the task) but one annoying feature is that Wolverine seems to level up faster than other characters, he is the only "all rounder" type character and you have to start out as him.Other features include amazing cutscenes, collectable comics/concept art and a battle mode (where you can fight another player - sadly not XBox Live).I'm a big fan of Marvel Comics and loved this game, its worth picking up just to play the 70's Sentinal level).

First game that is well above average wich is based on a comix license. I'ts a bit like Baldur's series but with several differences, begining with the graphics that has a nice mix of 2D cell-shading and 3D, it real gets the comix feel. The plot is a bit more ellaborate that the usual for a video game, and it's quite well written. You manage to play with a all bunch of X-men official and not-official members, and all of then are well made graphically and biographicaly. The only down bit, is that it's a bit too easy: an avarage player will manage to play the all game without having to replay a single level, but the last boss, wich on the other hand manage too get bit didicult (out of the blue). The game is well balanced, with lots of action and with nice relaxing and discovering moments, it should give you something like 20 hours of pure play pleasure.Anyway, I'll definetly buy X-Legends II.

This game is inetresting, in that it works like a slightly changed Diablo II, you have a variety of characters to control. Each character comes with only four abilities that get stronger and bigger, but then consider that you control four at once, and suddenly the game gets a lot bigger. And it does it quickly. All the faves are here, Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops, Jean Grey. Jean Grey becoming more fun in later levels, when you pick up cars and throw them at sentinels, if you so wish. That graphics are somewhat chunky, not so much that you notice during the game, but during cutscsenes you'll be wondering why they all have flippers for hands.Overall the game is fun,and people looking for a fun game that will keep them enetertained I would easily recommend this game too. Graphics aren't cutting edge, but they don't need to be when a games just goddam fun without breaking any new ground.

I just finished playing it and WHOA!By the end of the game I was still finding new details, items and combos. It's not so much a RPG but it does use some of the concepts. By allowing the player to choose which way to upgrade his team and the shear number of characters to choose from keep the game fresh from start to finish. Maybe the plot could be a little more complex but it doesn't detract from the gameplay. Each X-Man also as it's own quirks, I felt they put a lot of thought on how they played and interacted.Plus the Skirmish format (Player vs player) is very entertaining and it allows the player to control practicly every character (friend or foe) in the game!Almost every single one has multiple powers and some even a Mega power similar to the regular X-Man.Maybe the X-Mansion could be a little more interactive but, it really is a minor point 4.5 stars!

While being a linear game, X-men fans will still enjoy this RPG.You begin with Wolverine and gain more characters as the story progresses, to a total of 15. Although the character graphics appear a bit PS1-ish, the gameplay itself is nice. Game control is also easy to master. The story line is decent, much like a typical comic, with a few complications and twists. Some believe that the replay value is low, however, I find the second time through much easier. New costumes and better understanding of skill contribution make it much more entertaining as well. For those of you who own the game, but haven't found the 15th character, it's Havok. He joins you late in the game, allowing you to switch to him in the extraction point if you so choose.

As a big fan of the X-Men, I have been eagerly awaiting a gane worthy of the great comics name. The two recent X-Men games got bad reviews, but know it appears that X-Men legends will break the mould and live up to every fans expectations. With 15 X-Men and X-Women you would hope that it will have favourites such as Gambit, Cable, Nightcrawler and all the others who make up the famous series.Excelsior!
