I really like WD's products and have found them to be very reliable so I bought one of their SN550 Blue M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs which I knew would give a hugely significant performance boost (see images for comparison: before and after) as before I had a 1TB WD HDD which came with my Dell Inspiron 5570. The storage capacity (250GB) of this new SSD is perfect for my needs as I don't store any of my personal data on it (it is purely for the operating system and programs alone). I use the original 1TB WD HDD that came with my laptop for all of my personal data as it has a 2.5" HDD bay and also an M.2 slot so I can have dual drives. You can opt for a bigger version of this model such as 500GB or 1TB if you require more space. This was incredibly easy to install, all I had to do was remove the back cover of my laptop, then locate the M.2 drive bay slot, insert the drive into the slot the correct way around and then screw the screw into the other end to secure it (my laptop came with this screw already inside, depending on your make and model, you may need to purchase a screw as well). You can then either clone your disk (copy everything that was on the pervious disk you used) using software such as Macrium Reflect (free for home use) or Acronis True Image (30-day free trial) or if you're like me and want a complete fresh start you can install Windows 10 with a bootable USB drive which you can create using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool on their website. Once you've installed Windows 10, it should automatically activate as your product key stays with the computer even if just some of the components are replaced such as the RAM and SSD.Overall, I would highly recommend this SN550 Blue M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD from WD as it offers great performance for a reasonable price. Upgrading your memory and SSD are the two most significant upgrades you can make to your laptop/PC to improve performance and efficiency.

After a little research I was amazed to find this deal, previously I had used SSDs from Samsung and was currently running an EVO970 NVMe, but wanted a bit of extra capacity for running some VM's (especially useful whilst doing home labe based testing during these times) that wasn't going to cost too much and still had a bit of performance.Unit arrived, typical packaging, all was safe and sound in its plastic. As spec'd, this fitted upon my motherboard (Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 7 for ref) without issue, given the EVO970 was already installed in the primary connector and my GPU was covering the next, I was fortunate that the 3rd connector although aligned with one of the PCIeX1 slots had pegs for the 80mm fitting suited to this module (M.2 2280),and it doesn't interfere with any expansion card using this PCIe slot.Once fitted, booted up, formatted and then downloaded and installed Western Digital's utility, this performed a brief firmware upgrade of the unit - no trouble, nice and easy.Very happy with the fit, performance and capacity, especially given the price.

I’ve tested this SSD just briefly so far, in an enclosure attached to a USB3 port on the Yoga. It’s certainly fast, both read and write. CrystalDiskMark rates it only average for its class but that’s no surprise because the rating is consistent with the specs. Take a look at the comparison table in the Amazon description and it’s clear that this drive doesn’t aim to compete with the very best. So, there are faster NVMe SSDs out there, but I can’t see many people noticing or caring a great deal. In the real world, it’s plenty fast enough for most of us. For most users, it’s unlikely to be worth paying significantly more for a small incremental increase in performance, when this drive is already so much faster than SATA SSDs.The Western Digital SSD Dashboard can be used to monitor the health of the SSD and maintain optimal performance, as well as providing various stats. It can be very useful, even if only used once in a while, say to monitor degradation.Bottom line, then…with a 5-year warranty and a price of just £64, this NVMe SSD makes a terrific buy.

The drive was a doddle to install, just removed the screw holding down the old drive, slot the new one in and screw back down. I'd already created a clone of my old drive onto my secondary HDD, as my PC only has one m2 slot, so I couldn't do a straight clone, so all I had to do was transfer this over and I was in business. The speed is incredible, having just had a major PC upgrade from a 7 year old model, which was managing around 250MB/s transfer rate on its SATA2 interface, to this m2 drive which bench-marked at over 1.5GB/s read and write. Can't comment on the longevity of the drive as I've only installed it today. But having read expert reviews before my purchase, reliability shouldn't be an issue and it has a solid 5 year warranty for peace of mind as well.

It is super fast 2500 mb/s reads, and 2000 mb/s write.Plug and play, up and running in seconds. This is a fully fledged NVMe SSD drive with amazing warranty and currently the cheapest available for this sort of performance. The Crucial P1 is a little cheaper but that drive slows down to even below 2.5" drive performance when moving large data sets of 50gb or more, please note the average came is over 50gb, and so is a UHD movie. When moving large files, mine has not exceeded 50 degree's, if you M.2 slot is underneath the mother it will probably get upto 60 degree's but this is within operating range. This will not work with sata cables, if you dont have a spare M.2 slot, you will need a PCIe card to NVMe adapter. If you get full performance from x3 Gen.

I bought the WD 1TB SN550 to store games and to complement my smaller 970 Evo Plus NVME (used for Windows). The attached benchmark shows the 970 Evo on the left and the WD Blue on the right. As you can see, the WD Blue is significantly slower at sequential reading/writing (so is not the best for heavy duty workflows) but is right up there for random reading and writing, which is what matters when gaming and for other general usage.NVME drives are already overkill for most uses. There is no need to go even further by buying a more expensive and faster drive (like the 970) than this one unless you have a specific need for it. If you don't know whether you have such a need, you almost certainly don't and this will do everything you could want at top speed.

Just rebuilt my PC with an MSI B450 A pro max motherboard from Amazon, and a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. This drive fits straight onto the motherboard and took me all of a minute to install it with the SCREW PROVIDED. Think some of the other reviewer lost theirs or didn't look in the tiny packet in the box. The scary bit when you first boot your rebuilt machine lasted just a minute until it booted nicely to bios. Stuck my legitimate £3 windows 10 on it curtsy of the well know auction site. Now all up and running fine. Boots windows in 10-12 seconds and runs all my stuff blindingly fast. No fuss, no messing with BIOS, just worked out of the box. Very pleased.

I didn't install this inside my computer but instead used a M.2 SSD enclosure that I already purchased in the past. This WD M.2 SSD drive popped in fine and was straight away recognized by my iMac. As soon as I plugged it in and message popped up on the screen asking if I wanted to use it as a TimeMachine drive (which I didn't).I'm no expert to comment on write and read speed but I transferred a lot of files onto this drive as I'm using it as a backup and this was very fast. As fast as my internal drive, I would say. This seems like a powerful and cost-effective storage solution and I'm very pleased with it.

Purchased this drive for a new gaming build based around the Ryzen 5 3600x/Asus ROG X570 Strix Gaming-F. Easy to physically install. After completing build used a Windows 10 USB drive to install the OS; the WD SN 550 was recognised straight away, W10 installed and up and running within 10 mins. No problems whatsoever. For daily use, system boots into W10 within 10 seconds, I can be logged in to Steam and gaming ina around the same amount of time.Game loads and in-game save loads are negligible time wise. Cannot recommend this drive enough if you're running a gaming rig.

I noticed plenty of people have issue where this SSD causes BIOS to freeze at POST - including me. After unplugging nvme ssd the PC was working fine, and at first I thought the cause was faulty SSD. But updating the BIOS solved the problem and it all works perfectly now. I noticed same problem being faced by few other people on WD forum, so keep that in mind in case you run into similar problem.

Western Digital is my go-to brand for reliability when it comes to storage. The NVMe SSD is no different. It arrives securely packaged, it's super-easy to install, and gives as-expected I/O speeds. I use this as my primary OS/install drive and my larger normal SSD for day-to-day storage, and the gaming experience I have is superb. Definitely recommend this if you're looking to upgrade.

I got this to store some old movies.Easy to use and quick to transfer data from laptop to hard drive with the 3.0 USB500gb is enough but I better to have the 1TB as films takes a lot of space. No problems with this hard drive so far.Pretty small and like others fits in the enclosure easily.Pretty fast data loading.

This drive is a good quality drive and is a lot faster than my previous SATA drive. Installation was a bit tricky, however this is a problem with my computer case and motherboard, not the drive. I managed to image my entire 800+GB macOS system over to this SSD in under an hour! (I used the software Carbon Copy Cloner)

Read about these High-Performance M.2 Pcie NVMe SSD's and decided to install one in my desktop to replace the 7200rpm system HDD. The difference in speed and performance is not only significant, it is incredible. I would compare it to getting behind the wheel of a sports car after years of driving the family saloon.

Slapped it in, cloned my old 850 EVO, changed boot priority, done.Only use is for gaming so don't need an insane fast SSD- just decided to go with m.2 as I've never had one and they take up less space in the case.Price at time of purchase was £110 for 1TB, which is good value at this point in time.
