This is the first SSD I've bought, and a lot of time went in to reading the reviews for other similar drives. I also held off because I was sceptical about just how much better one of these drives would be.In the end I decided to go for a lower capacity one and mainly use it for launching Windows and other programs I wanted to function faster, such as Office. I had been considering a Samsung or SanDisk drive but that's because I hadn't seen that WD had one. It's a name I trust so stuck with a company I have faith in for product quality and reliability. It wasn't difficult to install the drive, as I had changed a hard drive before and so knew what I was doing.I also bought a bracket that meant I could use this smaller 2.5" drive in a 3.5" bay on my PC, and there's also space for another 2.5" drive to be added in the same bay later - I would highly recommend doing this if you're buying for a PC and not a laptop. I went with this: Sabrent 3.5-Inch to x2 SSD / 2.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive Mounting Kit [SATA and Power Cables included] (BK-HDCC)So after cloning everything I'd need onto this drive from the standard HDD, I changed the boot drive to the SSD and fired up my PC. If you've read almost any review of an SSD you'll have heard how much faster they are, and I can only add further agreement to that. Before, from powering on to being able to do something without lag, it would take anything from 2-3 minutes. Now, power on to usable PC takes around 20 seconds. Launching anything installed on the SSD gives you an instant response, where before there would be a few seconds while it started up and took a bit to load.If you've been thinking about getting an SSD, don't wait as long as I did - you won't regret the purchase and you'll be a convert for life after you've seen the improvements it makes. I would say it is the single best upgrade I've ever made to a PC. With the cost to capacity ratio being so much higher than a normal HDD though, you may want to consider doing what I've done and just start off with one for your OS and a few programs. If you haven't changed a hard drive before, you should open up your PC case and have a look because all it comes down to is 4 screws and 2 cables. Also, if like me you've never had a brand new drive before, be aware that you'll need to 'initialise' it through the disk management process before it shows up in Windows. It's not a difficult process and is very quick to do.

I’ve got a fair few SSDs now. Some are high performance variants, she are budget and others are mainstream, like this one. We’ve got a 5 year old laptop that was struggling with Windows Vista and even had a few issues with Windows 10. It hasn’t helped that it only has 8 GB of RAM, which wasn’t really enough for Vista and was only a little better for Win 10. But instead of buying extra RAM, I put an SSD in it and it is transformed; booting quickly and switching applications much more quickly. There are two things an SSD helps with - disk access speeds is a given, the other is virtual memory. If Windows (or Mac OS, for that matter) runs our of RAM, it copies a currently unused chunk (from a minimised program, for example) out to the HDD and then uses the freed space for whatever it is currently doing. When you switch back to the app which has had its memory contents moved to HDD, then the OS switches out another section of RAM and copies the required data back in. All that copying around is a symptom of not having enough RAM in your computer, but an SSD can alleviate it, since it is so much quicker at doing it than a regular hard disk.In other words, the first thing to do to revive an old computer is to fit an SSD, before buying more RAM, since you get more benefits. Ideally you’d buy both, but do you really want to invest that much in an out of date machine?Anyway, back to the WD Blue. I’ve been using the same old laptop to test SSDs for a while now. I had intended to benchmark this one against the others, but I still haven’t gotten around to it. However, subjectively speaking, I can detect no difference between this SSD and some theoretically faster models.I’ve had a lot of WD disks over the years and not yet had one fail (yet), so I trust the brand quite a lot, to the point my 4 bay NAS runs WD Red disks exclusively. This seems to me to be a great disk at a good price.

I have always buy Western Digital in all my computer builds over the years because I have found them to be better in performance and reliability, longer life, I still got my old WD 1TB Black HDD drive for over eleven years now but it only came with a five year warranty. Now days it all talk on the Solid State Drives, now everyone always 'VS' these SSD with the HDD drives but you can't compare these, SSD is memory no moving parts and HDD have moving parts like spinning magnetic platters and a read/write head both are different in design and features, but your will always find the 'fan boys' online 'VS'them!.SSD with no moving parts is only 9 seconds faster then HDD on windows 10 boot up hardly noticeableIt will not give you any FPS increase in games but loading times in open world games should be much betterAnd it support 6 GB/s SATA connections. The colours.SSD BlueFor customers looking for enhanced SATA performance, WD Blue SSDs are optimized for multitasking and resource-heavy applications. Also available in 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB capacities. 3 years warranty&GreenDeliver essential-class performance, and are a great option for everyday use. with 3 year warranty&WD 1TB HDD Black is 5 years warranty and support 6 GB/s SATA connections. The only Reason why I bought my Blue SSD just windows 10 home 64bit to be stored on it, because I like it not for the 9 seconds faster. Thanks

I normally buy Samsung EVO SSD's, but I've been using 3.5" WD hard drives for 20+ years and its about time WD came the SSD market.Packaging same as any other SSD branded retail cardboard package, the drive was housed in a plastic bag and finally in a plastic blister pack for that extra protection haha and that's it, no paperwork at all in the box not even the usual crap that no one ever reads in a 1000 languages (hurray)The drive like any other SSD seems well built, nothing loose or rattling around inside.I Installed the SSD with Windows 10 on a new build i7 7700K with all the bells n whistles and boy does this drive fly,I'm not that nerdy to start posting facts and figures but this thing is fast noticeably for me faster than my Samsung EVO which is only a couple of months old. I've been a die hard Samsung EVO SSD man for a few years now and that's about to change If this drive has reliability (Only time will tell)To the login screen, desktop and starting applications/Games this definitely feels quicker than the Samsung EVO and its slightly cheaper than the Samsung EVO.I'll not mark the SSD down for Amazon's terrible packaging but to box the SSD and Intel i7 in a cardboard surround forcing the retail boxes flatter so both items fit then ramming it into my letterbox is NOT a good idea! to give you an idea of the size of the Amazon box used it was the type used for a game!

Still the 2nd largest WD SSD at the time of writing this review, the Blue series with respect to WD's spinning media range denotes 'good everyday value'; you won't find these devices in servers, or gaming PCs, though, I would argue this SSD would suffice for most, with perhaps a larger, cheaper spinning disc for larger, less frequently accessed files / games etc... And yet, popular benchmarks give this a median score on most tasks but gaming orientated stuff - unfortunately this comes out towards the bottom of the pack. For those in the know, WD didn't used to make SSDs - in a way, they still don't - these products are quite simply the first from the acquired SanDisk business being released under the WD banner.Opening up the casing reveals a 100% SanDisk (X400) design - with logo!WD claims the drive is a 'high performer' with sequential read speeds up to 545MB/s and write speeds of 525MB/s. The Blue is WD F.I.T. certified meaning that is has high compatibility with numerous laptops and desktops. And the drive has high endurance, WD claims up to 400TBW.The Green version appears identical, so it's not clear what the differential is here, especially as any 'green' e.g environmental credentials are moot with an ultra low power SSD device. And as others have pointed out - 3 years is not as good as some other brands.

Quick SSD drive which matches the performance of the Samsung EVO range. My current PC C: drive was running out of space, especially with backing up I device with Itunes. The current drive is a Kingston 512GB SSD using a SATA connection with the BIOS set to use AHCI. The PC being a Shuttle XPC X38. Latest BIOS update being used.As I needed to clone the drive I used cloning software. On connecting the drive on a spare SATA connection etc... and powered on the PC and checked the BIOS. The drive wasn't being seen for use as a bootable drive in AHCI. Yet on playing around using IDE and RAID it would. In the end I managed to get this to work on another PC which needed upgrading, another Shuttle XPC SH55J which would be seen fine.Yet on the X38 PC a Samsung SSD drive could be seen. My only conclusion is that the drive WD put out may need a firmware update. Or my older PC won't see WD SSDs as it's too old? Unfortunately Western Digital don't give you any documentation or any discs with software. Looking at their Website it's even more confusing. As when you choose WD blue, the software given is only meant for external drives like their passport range etc....Apart from that, it's just a plug in and off you go affair. As for performance there is no speed difference with the Samsung 512 GB 840 EVO it originally replaced.

My old Thinkpad T400 was greatly speeded up/improved by installing one of these (250GB).Also purchased Sabrent sata/ub3 cable--attached new ssd to the sata end, plugged in to laptop. Went in to Computer Man, then Disk Management. It detected new ssd and requested initialisation. After that installed free Mini Tool Partition Wizard (downloaded from Mini Tool site). Clicked 'MIgrate os' to new ssd- followed instructions and clicked 'Apply'. Took 20 mins (used USB3 card) to clone existing hdd to new ssd. Replaced Hdd by ssd in laptop(see youtube vid for T400 instructions). Booted up a faster better laptop. One slight prob Mini Tool had turned off 'automount disk'in windows so would not automatically assign drive letter or display any usb ext hdd! Googled how to change this( command prompt- diskpart--enable automount) . So now absolutely fine installation as far as i can tell.Ran chkdsk --OK . Ran sfc /scannow in command prompt to check windows files all ok.T400 only SATA2 ie max 300mb/s not SATA3 like the ssd(ie max 600MB/s).Crystal Disk mark on mine gives max read 280mb/s and write 267mb/s. So slower ssd would have been fine. I chose this faster model as i will transfer disk to my next(2nd hand) more modern machine which will be sata3.

Used this to upgrade a 2 year old laptop running Windows 10 but which suffers the usual irritation of slow boot up,and access times. This WD solid state drive comes in the aftermath of WD's taking over of SanDisk, a well known manufacturer of solid state storage.I'm not a computer expert by any description but cloning the existing software wasn't too too difficult and replacing the laptops' spinning hard disk with this solid state drive was also surprisingly straight forward. And then the boot up. The improvement in speed was jaw dropping and access times similarly very impressive. I defy anyone not to be impressed with the improvement, far better than I have achieved with any other upgrades. No issues whatsoever to report after almost 4 weeks of hard use. A three year warranty also gives comfort but, as with any built in storage, it is always recommended that a separate backup is maintained, just in case the unthinkable does happen.Only caveat is that there are no hard copy instructions in the package but go online to WD's website and plenty of information is there. Easily recommended.

It wasn't so long ago that the maximum size of an SSD was 128GB and only about big enough to install the operating system. The main benefit of an SSD is read speed so placing the OS on one results in faster booting and - if there's room - loading the apps you use the most. This is the first reasonably priced 1TB SSD I've seen but what benefit can you get from the greater size?I'm a serious amateur photographer and use Photoshop and Lightroom, both of them with a range of plugins, fonts, brushes and other tools. All of these increase the load time of the apps and the amount of disk space used. Not a problem for a 1TB drive though: Photoshop loads blazingly fast even with the plugins. The second advantage for photographers with laptops is being able to edit pictures while away from home.Like many 'togs, I keep my raw files stored on a NAS server at home, but the 1TB SSD means I can download files from the camera onto the drive and do initial editing away from home. Or even at home, as loading 20MB files over the network or USB is much slower than having them locally loaded from the drive.

Super lightweight in comparison ( I actually thought the box was empty when it arrived int he post it was that light!!) to the mechanical hard drives. Exterior is the same and the nuts and bolts and connectors are the same as you would expect with it being a SATA connection. Using this to upgrade a 2012 MacBook Pro (and you can even install a second one in a bay where the optical drive was and run in RAID mode too. seriously gives your older computer a new lease of life and drastically speeds things up. You can get a sense of speed increase by duplicating a large several Gb file on your desktop before and after and I was speechless.Solid state all the way from now on.Can;t recomend enough and wish I'd looked into these previously.

I can only echo all the other positive reviews for this device. My old pc had got to the point that I could turn it on, go make a cup of coffee, and if I was lucky it would have booted up by the time I got back! If this sounds familiar, and ssd is definitely for you. I needed to get a carrier kit in order to fit into a spare slot in the drive bay, but fitting is simple enough.I use this as the boot device for my os and regular used programs, and the difference is night & day, no more annoying creaking at the old hard drive struggled to wake up. Everything fires up what feels like instantaneously in comparison. I believe it's the single best upgrade you can make to any pc,especially older ones - highly recommended.

SSDs essentially boost the read speed of your computer. This is the first one I've had - I've had it placed into an existing machine - and I am stunned by the results. Booting up takes about 10 second now, compared to about two minutes before, while program opening is way zippier, especially for larger programs such as Photoshop.Only criticism is lack of instructions in the box. Had no idea what to do with the thing, so got my techy brother to do it. It was easy enough for him, but for a technophobe such as me the lack of instructions was a major issue.

One star off for losing 70gb - 930gb, not 1 tbI expected to have less than 1tb not not SEVENTY for God's sake.Set up run fine on my desktop. Early days yet of course, but when my Crucial 500gb bit the dust (I thought they were supposed to have a lifetime warranty ?) after 2 years use, I thought I'd try WD as Ive always had good reliable WD hard drives and never been let down

Wow what a hard drive. Compared to my other HDD drive this SSD makes it look like a steam engine. Speed is the word. Boot time is reduced. Open programs is reduced to an instant. Copying and pasting file from one drive to the SDD is fast like 30 minutes down to 5 or 10 minutes. I would recommend one of these because its so easy to set up. No software of driver required.

The item installed easily, I used a cloning programme that is on my computer and it transferred the entire old hard drive with no problem. The only reason I have given it 4 stars is because there isn't a cloning app included with the SSD. The SSD itself functions fine, very pleased with it.
