Anyone who has ever filmed their children in a school show knows the arm ache associated with hand holding a camcorder for what seems like hours. Even with a reasonable image stabilisation system and a gymnasium-toned upper body, the images tend to become wobbly after the first 30 minutes. Worse still, the view from the middle row of the hall is often obscured by taller parents sitting in front. To overcome these problems, I have always used a monopod to keep my camcorder steady and allow it to film around 12" above my head. I originally used a Velbon monopod which I bought for use with a Super 8 cine camera in 1978 but the locking mechanism failed last year after only 31 years of use,so I decided to buy a new monopod. I thought I would stick with Velbon, given the length of service from the previous model! This is very much a budget model but it is well built and should last a long time. It is light to carry and comes with a shoulder strap. A perfect companion for my flash memory camcorder and my model came in a very smart black. The leg locking mechanism is far better than my previous Velbon monopod, clipping nicely without risk of finger trapping. The quick release platform fits well and has an index pin that corresponds perfectly with the hole on my Sony HDR-CX105E camcorder. It is very useful to be able to tilt the head to an appropriate angle so that the monopod is kept vertical at all times and this is made easier with a fluid-style mechanism with adjustable locking screw. I found I could keep my camcorder extremely steady by holding the monopod with the left hand and the pan/tilt handle with my right hand. Ideally, I would have liked to have used a remote switch for stopping/starting and zooming in/out clipped onto the pan-handle such as the Sony RMAV2.So, a definite recommendation for any situation where it is impractical to use a tripod and you want to achieve professional quality results.

In short, so far so good. It is light, looks great, its solid enough and doesn't weigh much. It is the best part of 2' long so don't expect compact although it is slim. What do you get for your money? The features that I particularly like are the removable mounting plate with a quick release and even a spring loaded pin to hold the clip open whilst you mount the camera. The tilt handle can be reversed to suit left or right handed users, nice touch. The three clips on the extender feel robust enough for the task. As stated elsewhere the foot is rubber and can be screwed back to reveal a blunt spike to anchor the device. There are a few grumbles about the rattle from the strap clip. The clip and strap are easily removed or you could just put a bit of helicopter tape on the monopod where the clip hits to damp the noise, or some draught-proofing tape.It came well packed in its own box inside an Amazon box. There was enough room for two such monopods in the box but this was probably the smallest box to do the packing correctly. Alternatively Amazon could have saved a bit of packing paper and thrown in a free spare, it is around Christmas after all!

I have the need to be able to support a camera in various situations where a tripod just wouldn't work. I was looking for a well built monopod that was within my limited budget and, after some investigation, found this one. It was on offer as the package was damaged but when I received it it was as good as new. It has an easy to fit and use camera fitting. The monopod it sufficiently versatile for my requirements but it's worth bearing in mind that the monopod head does not come off the extending leg section (at least I couldn't get it off) which would mean that an alternative head couldn't be fitted, or would have to be fitted using the camera fitting screw. The leg extension certainly covers the range I was looking for and I'm about 6 foot high. Good solid clips hold the leg sections in place and there is a rubber foot at the base that can be screwed up to expose a spike. All in all, I'm very happy with it.

The Velbon UP-400DX (UP4DXII) Monopod arrived promptly, and was well packed. The quick-release plate fitted neatly on the bottom of my Lumix G2 and I was delighted to find I was able to open the battery/SD Card door without having to adjust or remove the plate. It's easy to extend/retract the leg sections, and the maximum extension is fine for me at 1.87m tall.I was even more pleased to discover the tilting handle could be reversed making the head left-handed, and far easier to use for me.My initial photos using a 200mm lens with an optical doubler (= 800mm on a 35mm SLR) are great.I'm very pleased the Velbon UP-440DX. And for £25 it's great value.

This is a descent piece of kit for the price. It feels quite sturdy when fully extended and locked and you would need to be over six foot for your eyes to be level with the camera viewfinder. It has a spike or rubber grommet at the sharp end which does the job depending on what surface you are on. It is fairly light at just 675g out of its bag and with a closed length of 55cm will fit into most medium suitcases. You can get cheaper Monopods and a lot more expensive Monopods but I find that Velbon tend to give value for money on their products getting the balance of what you get for your money just right.

Bought this to use with my Pentax k-x dslr camera. It is easily upto the task, even with my 55-300 mm zoom attached, very versatile in positioning and moving the head around. The release clips are easy to do single-handed and very smooth and can be closed in between the obvious spacings, making infinite fixing positions. It comes with a quick release connector which can be left on the camera, ready for those opportunist shots!A bonus is that it is light enough in weight for me to clip to my camera back-pack and carry with me-I found a tripod a little too cumbersome for this. All in all,a very pleasing item.

Great Piece of kit for a beginner or inter photographer. When this monpod is fully extended it reaches 5ft 6" in height and is 22" when folded down. There are 3 well made and sturdy quick release clamps on it for fast usage. There a rubber foot grip which screws up to reveal a small spike for which is very useful if you on muddy or slippery ground. The pan and tilt head is quite smooth. It also has a quick release head and the best thing is that its lite and theres also a carrying strap.ALL IN ALL You can realy go wrong with this monopod for £21.66 "unless you like an odd moan"

If you want to use this to steady a lens for wildlife can I make some suggestions:1: Take off the strap, it unlocks at the bottom by removing the small plastic oval and then the clip will slide out.2: Remove the metal clasp that holds the top strap. It makes too much noise and scares away the wildlife.3: Remove the metal tilt arm. It's much easier to just tilt the whole monopod than use this, it also makes carrying it extended easier.Having said that, it's a great product, very light, quick release legs and head make for quick set-up and better chance to get the shot.

I was impressed with the three quick release locks on the stand which extends to a good height. The baseplate that attaches to the camera requires a coin to tighten/loosen screw. My reasonably hefty Nikon D90 with standard lens feels secure on the monopod. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is because the monopod does not pan but only tilts. The carry strap is useful and the base has a firm grip on the ground with a retractible spike/rubber foot. The price of the monopod is very reasonable and is robust and light to carry.

Good for the price, but god only knows why they decided to put a metal ring to attached the strap to, it rattles away like loose change in your pocket, eventually took it off as it annoyed me so much, but overall the product works well and easy to use.The long video style arm is a nice touch, does help when you are taking video shots. Nice easy extendable legs, with another rattly rubber foot on the bottom, but at least you can screw that in to stop it making a noise.

For the price I feel this is not a bad buy. The only thing that lets it down it the inability to pan without having to move the entire monopod. The build quality is good, it is light and very easy to carry in the straps of my camera backpack. The legs are easy to extend and retract. Provided panning is not an issue for you, I would recommend this product.

I ordered this item after lunch on one day not expecting to get it for a few days. The order arrived the next day! It was very nice to see such service. By the way, I placed the order using my Kindle Fire. All right-thinking, decent people who are kind to animals, pay their taxes and love their children, should have one, it's great!

The monopod is excellent value, easy to use and certainly has helped me to improve the image quality of my pics, particularly when used outdoors. It is much easier to carry and quicker to get into use than a tripod, although obviously not a full replacement for the tripod.Delivery was fast and the product was well packed.

Received it within a week - extremely well packaged. Light weight and easy to carry with shoulder strap. Quick release head is fantastic for that quick grab shot. Does what it says on the tin and is well worth the money. I recommend it to anyone wanting assistance in holding the camera steady without the need for a tripod.

For the price I have found this to be a good mobile option for tight spaces and circumstances that might require a quick change of position. It is of light build and so I anticipate having to be careful with it but it is perfect for what I need it for (I use it with a light dslr)
