I owned the previous version of this calculator many years ago and was looking to replace it as I find the Casio calculators very awkward to use. This TI-30 calculator is easy to use when performing calculations and this is helped by the clear layout of the buttons with the most commonly used keys available as primary functions (no shift required). This is not the case with Casio / Sharp whereby it can be time consuming hunting for buttons and performing shift-functions on the most basic of calculations.Being solar powered, there is no need to worry about the battery running out at an inconvenient time e.g. an exam, and it is also good for the environment. The numerical display is clear,

i used to have the previous version (or brother version) of this calculator, the Texas TI30XA Scientific calculator. as far as i can tell these calculators are the same except that this one has solar cells whereas the TI30xa runs only from batteries. i got this calculator when i was 16 years old, back at school when we were required to have this calculator for scientific calculations at mathematics and physics. the buttons and functions present are everything you will need; unless you are doing some higher grade studies maybe, on which i cannot comment. i've used this caluclator through secondary school, A levels, and a 5 years study in molecular life sciences. this calculator has never let me down,

I am doing a maths degree, concentrating on applied maths and I find this inexpensive calculator meets my requirements very well, providing the essential functions I need.The calculator is nice to use and is very well made. The logic for entering numbers into calculations is completely straightforward. The key action is excellent. The sliding plastic cover/lid provides robust protection of the keyboard when the calculator is not in use; during use it can be slid on to the back of the unit. The solar power is very effective, functioning in even pretty poor light. I look forward to useful money savings on batteries, and not worrying about batteries running out in the exam room!I think this is a well designed and well functioning calculator very suitable for use at school,

This new incarnation of the mega-classic TI30-SLR has everything you need and nothing you don't:- All the usual functions including standard deviation, fractions & engineering notation- A clear bold display with plenty of digits- Old-skool buttons that do exactly what they say, exactly when you press themAnd of course,- A solar cell for true standalone operation.My only minor quibble is that the hard-case is a bit clunky for my taste. I'd love an uber-slimline one, maybe with one of those retro metal front panels...

I highly recommend this calculator as does The Open University for some of their maths courses and is where i got the recommendation from. I bought a Casio first but i replaced it with the Texas Instruments one because of its functionality and ease of use. The only problem is that the solar cells aren't very efficient and need to be in strong light condition to work, so not as environmentally friendly as you might think.

Good all round calculator in an attractive form and nice eco aspect eradicating need for batteries. Only downside is it needs direct light to work. In a slightly dark room or at night time it doesn’t work well unless very near to artificial light. This is the trade off for the environmental win of not needing batteries which is also a cost and hassle saving.

My calculator from the 90's started to play up so I ordered this one as the layout was pretty much the same, too old in life to try find the square root and trig buttons.Used it once to type 58008 and that worked well so calculator seems to be in tip top shape.

very good calculator, no batteries, pi, 1/x, x square and root x are buttons on their own, not 2nd function buttons, no clutter that usually appears on scientific calulators

Replacement for a very old, identical unit that died on me. Not much to say - it does the job, is cost effective, arrived on time - Value for money
