When I went looking for a calculator 6 years ago to assist me in some simple calculations, I couldn't have imagined that such a trivial purchase would change my life.Here I am, 6 years later. The SHARP ELSI MATE EL-240SA is still going strong. This simple little guy has stood by me through thick and thin. I would like to say that my hard work ethic and brown nosing has helped me rise to the top but I have to give the Carol Vorderman of the robot world all the credit. Clever, sleek, sexy. No, not Mrs Vorderman, but the EL-240SA. Go on, check out Google Images and type in "Carol Vorderman". You see that first picture of her in the red dress? Well don't try and tell me that she gets you more excited than the product image on this page.

Contrary to the product information, this calculator is dual-powered, so has a battery. This is a good basic calculator, of which there are many on the market, however this one does have a feature which makes it very useful to me. As long as you don't press the AC (all cancel) button, it will remember the last answer indefinitely, even after it has turned itself off (as long as the battery is good). Most calculators do not do this. I have switched the calculator on after a weekend and the previous answer still displays. This function is very handy for my work where I need to double-check that I have set the machine correctly 20-30 mins later. Even though it switches itself off to save power (like most calculators do after 8mins)

This is the second one of these calculators I have had because I lost the first one. The dual power works well and the calculator is small so fits easily in my laptop case or pocket no problem. The main benefit and why I bought this calculator is that it is one of the few calculators out there that allows you to select no rounding of numbers, no decimal places or most importantly calculating to 2 decimal places. Allowing the rounding to 2 decimal places helps with VAT calculations and invoicing because most of them calculate to 2 decimal places only.The only slight negative is that you have to keep an eye on which setting you have set the calculator to work to as sometimes the setting can be

This is a great little pocket calculator with nice action ( plastic ) keys, has all the usual functions including memory , % and sq root and has an incredibly useful feature whereby both last answer and memory can be restored after 'auto power off' .Decimal can be set to floating, 2 point or no decimal by combined press of M+ and C-CE keys. I actually prefer 3 point for metric M/mm calculations but there you go.I have bought two of these and for office desktop use also have the more expensive and more luxurious EL-387V which also has a resume feature and can be set to 3 point decimal. Both are highly recommended.

First things first, this calculator is small, really small. I bought it thinking it was going to be like a desk calculator but hadn’t paid attention to the dimensions in the description, silly me. The calculator is ideal for a child but as an adult I find it hard to use the calculator quickly because keys are so small and close together. It’s a basic calculator but does have some nifty functions like memory and decimal place restrictions which is actually pretty handy. Good calculator, but for me, just to small to use. Pros: It can add, subtract, multiply and divide much faster then I can do it long hand. I saved a ton of time balancing my bank account and will all the money I saved buying this one, my account balance now does not have a negative in front of it.Cons: Does not come loaded with any games. Sometimes it will spit out profanity. Like if you enter 29,004 x 2, or 21,272,032 x 4 and look at the results upside down.Conclusion: I would not buy it again since I don't need two. I'm very happy with my decision to take a chance on this lightning fast number figuring machine.

My desk calculator has just died - the digits are all scrambled up and it's telling lies! It's been used regularly for probably 20 years now and I was looking for something similar to replace it. It is a Sharp Elsimate EL-240s. I couldn't believe it when I found that these are still produced. So my first one has had an estimated 20 years of use - I really don't begrudge paying a few quid for a new one and will readily be an advert for it's simplicity and endurance. Another plus point - it's always on and I've never had to replace the batteries as it's light powered.

This is an excellent calculator, I really enjoy using it.Pros-Clicky buttons-Dual Powered-Remembers last sum even if power is turned off-Well built (I've had it for over four years)-Only had to replace the battery once (I've had it for over four years)-Large big number screenCon's-A bit small-Battery change is a bit tricky but only had to do it once (I've had it for over four years)If this was helpful, please give me a thumbs up. Tiny calculator but does the job perfectly, it is dual powered with a battery and a solar panel so I don't expect to change the batteries any time soon. It has a memory function that automatically stores your last answer for easy maths and explains the clear difference between CA and C/CE (a problem which a university graduate should have figured out long ago!!). If a small but mighty simple calculator is what you need then look no further.

I bought this for my partner as he was forever borrowing mine although he had one of his own. He wanted one that did basic arithmetic and percentages, nice and simple with nothing to over complicate matters. This fitted the bill perfectly and what's more as it is dual fuel will work even when the light is low meaning you don't have to hold it by the desk lamp in the evenings. Perfect. In fact I think I'll be borrowing his from now on!

I feel weird reviewing a cheap calculator, but out of cheap calculators, this one is the BEST! :)I've owned an identical one for, well since forever, and found they still make them new so ordered one for my office.. The buttons press well, seem durable.. the LCD is easy enough to read at all angles even in dim light where other calculators i have had would be barely readable.. overall it's just so average, its perfect :P

OK I’m old. I don’t like using the calculator on my desk top or phone. Nope I need something old school with a keypad large enough for my fingers to punch in the correct digits but not so massive it takes up too much desk space. Solar powered, the slightly tilted display area makes it easier to read. No manual off button, but the calculator does power down after only a few minutes when not in use.

Sharp by name and sharp by nature - This really is a "sharp" little piece of kit. Great price, shirt pocket weight and very easy and intuitive to use. The only downside, and hence the four stars only, the buttons are very sensitive and without a cover, can be difficult to use for instance keeping a running total of your spend at the supermarket. Otherwise, as pocket calculators go just fantastic.

Works as it is supposes too. Time will tell if it holds up or not. I would have preferred it a little thicker or some weight as it is very, very light but no biggie. Works good.The display is nice and big as others had mentioned.Thanks to the nice reviewers who answered my question about what batteries it would take if needed.Can't beat the price and Sharp has a good reputation.

I needed a non-scientific calculator for my exams and this proved to be the winner. It's cheap and carries out all your basic functions. Yes it decides to play around with the decimal places sometimes, but this can be sorted out by pressing the last two buttons on the first and second row and choosing your preference. Can't really go wrong.
