:Disclaimer: I do own both this and a Casio fx-85GT PLUS (the most current model I believe at the time i write this) which I compare to.Also, for a short summary if you cba to read much: I feel as if i've never ran into a problem with this, whereas the casio competition have been giving me issues, beyond simply being a new format to use when I switched. Would definitely recommend.Performs well and reliable. Easy to understand format and an all-round quality product. Suitable for Maths GCSE A-Level and even University (I used it for all 3, I'm currently studying MechEng at Uni of Bath and its superior to the various Casios I've been tormented with in the exams. It seems to be much more thoughtfully designed - it handles standard form sensibly, the scientific modes are ideal for Physics; it has binary, pent, oct, decimal and hex - useful for computing and boolean; and the WriteView is great, meaning your fractions are displayed clearly as well as square roots and other functions such as trig. This differentiated it from some of the Casio calculators which blankly refused fractions, struggled with square roots and chucked brackets everywhere for functions.Casio scientific models do have some advantages, the solar panel in the top right corner being one - this seems a nifty addition, but on the other hand my Sharp battery has never run out in 4 years of constant use (We're talking roughly 150+ days a year). It also has a variety of functions, some of which the Sharp doesn't have and vice versa - its hard to be specific on this but after some decent usage on the casio, it doesn't seem to be lacking or gaining too much over the Sharp. Both are acceptable for mathematical use, but the Sharp is just easier to use and more useful, in my opinion.p.s. through all the long secondary school lessons I didnt really try that hard in, I got quite acquainted with this Sharp calculator, through lack of other things to amuse me. While I would never advocate cheating, I'm just saying if you delve into some of the Stats functions, you can definitely skip a lot of pointless grunt work. Fiddle around with some of the buttons, you can really get a speed increase or check your work easily. Related the nCr and nPr buttons are super useful if you know what you are doing.- Rob

I wouldn't often say that a piece of basic functional equipment is exceptional, but this calculator merits that title. I got it once for a birthday present, at least 6 years ago, and it still works as the day it was bought. It has taken me through SATs and mocks and GCSEs, etc, and it has worked perfectly all through. It has all the features one might expect, logarithms, sine, cosine, and tangent (as well as their inverse functions, of course), cube roots, fourth, fifth, sixth roots (potentially infinitely because of a root input), four memory buttons and base conversions between hexadecimal (hex), binary (bin), decimal (dec), octal (oct) and quinary (marked pen), alongside everything else you might need.I just found out that 99 in quinary is 344. Amazing.A feature for which I have never found a use, but love nonetheless, is the random number generator. There are four options for random number generating: RAND, which generates a random fraction between 0 and 999/1000 (inclusive); R-DICE, which, as the name suggests, generates a random integer value between 1 and 6 (inclusive); R-COIN, which generates a random '1' or '0'; and R-INT, which generates a random integer between 0 and 99 (inclusive).Lastly, there is a 'DRILL' function, which sprays maths questions at you. There are two options: you can be tested by operator ('MATH') or you can be tested by times-table ('TABLE'). The former will let you choose a number of questions to answer and an operator, and then it will give you that many questions involving that operator, before telling you your success percentage. The latter will let you choose a number between 1 and 12, and then it will test you on all the questions in that times-table in a random order. Pretty neat. Now, I have very little experience with other calculators, with this one having lasted so long, but I doubt that many calculators have all of these features and are so reliable. I heartily recommend this one!

Sharp WriteView Calculator. This is a nice scientific calculator which is ideal for A level and up.Build quality.==========It's nice a solid and feels good in the hand. They key have a positive feel and everything is clearly laid out. It comes with a cover. In use.=====Well it's a calculator but I feel it's a bit better than some of the cheaper ones. It correctly formats numbers which helps cuts down on mistakes. One million is displayed as 1'000'000 and not 1000000 as my cheaper one does. This helps to cut down on errors. The display is nice and large and has four lines. You can enter formulas directly and they appear correctly just like in a book. For example a quadratic equation calculation can be entered and displayed just like a written one on the page. This helps cut down on procedural errors and general errors. It is a well thought-out scientific calculator.I am a Biologist and love this calculator as it is great for my job.Functions.--------------There is nothing I can find missing for teaching degree level science and basic statistics using a calculator. If you want pure stats then a graphical calculator or one of the many statistical apps for iOS Apple or Android devices would be better.Overall.======A nicely made machine with a good display and direct entry. Now my calculator of choice.

I have had this calculator for approximately 5 years (!) now and it is still going strong, on the same battery too! Now studying degree level engineering, this calculator still has every function required. It's biggest bonus, as I see it, is when compared to equivalent Casio's (which everyone else seems to have) is its easier, simpler to use, write view screen (literally input the calculation as you would write it it down). I have used a multitude of calculators in the last few years, mostly borrowed from others when I've left mine at home, and this is hands down the simplest and most intuitive. Commonly used buttons such as Exp and Change are obvious and easily accessible (without the need to go 2nd function)and it has plenty of memory.A very useful feature I have found is to store variables in the memory, then write out the equation using the stored values - this means that you can change the stored value, go back to the equation using the up arrow, and a press of the equals button calculates the equation again with the new variable - essentially meaning that long equations only need to be written once for multiple calculations! It also has a nice feel, looks stylish, is hard wearing and has an incredible battery life. Honestly, the best calculator I have ever used, and for the price cannot be beaten!

I purchased this after comparing it with the equivalent Casio model, and this seemed to out-spec the Casio. When it arrived I systematically went through the manual and got to know every function, and it has everything needed for my OU Science degree. If the result is expressable as a fraction, it will display this format first, but the change button will give you the decimal equivalent. One interesting facility is that calculations involving roots will be simplified before display the fractional result. I think though that the fractions would be more useful to pre-GCSE students. One other feature that is no use to me is its ability to pose easy maths tests, with questions coming in random sequences, and also do the same for multiplication table tests. This would be handy for children just starting out with mathematics.

I have had one of these as my trusty companion for almost a decade - I bought it initially because it can perform binary and hexadecimal calculations. But, the calculator has always been there for me, ideal for my A-levels, physics degree and into my career as a tech professional. When I lost it, I was heart-broken. Seeing the exact same model is still available on Amazon was a lovely moment.I'm not sure my new calculator will ever be quite the same, but I would be truly lost without one of these. This is a calculator choice you will not regret.

Used to have one of these when I started high school it lasted me around 7 years of use. Then when I'm going to college it dies on me. I couldn't stand it. So many memories. Thay calculator wasn't going to die on me. So sadly I had to buy another one and kill it. I stole it's motherboard which was faulty on my original. I then soldered a few wires, switched batteries and voila. My friend calculator mk.2 was reborn and feeling better than ever.

Worked great for exams, especially the memory functions to recall to earlier questions, percentages work great as well- overall expensive but the quality is definitely there. I think the most useful feature is the 'reset' button on the back, before every exam I would reset the device incase it got into some weird mode, definitely prevented any bad happenings! Would recommend.

I bought it to replace an older version of a scientific calculator that had broken. The Sharp Writeview is an amazing tool. Just playing with it has already refreshed and improved my understanding of basic maths. It has many functions I do not need, but it will prove to be very useful to my grandchildren as they move towards advanced maths at school and university.

Imo, this is the best calculator for "simple" maths. Super-easy to use, lots of useful functionality (fractions, indices, brackets, store previous answers into memory, etc, etc) and fast to navigate. Couldn't recommend it higher. For those looking for the more heavy duty solutions e.g. creating graphs or integrating equations, this would not be in scope.

2.1.2013

I am studying math at degree level and needed a calculator quickly when I realised that the one on my phone wasn't up to it!Arrived within 2 days and does exactly what I wanted, an excellent facility is to be able to write out your equation, get a result then go back and change some of the variables without needing to input the whole calculation again.

27.8.2020

I've been using this calculator for 8 years now (the same calculator, in fact; I only bought a second to have a spare one on hand), and through both secondary school and university (Physics) it's what I always come back to.It's more powerful and functional than you'd expect, and it's incredibly reliable and can handle a lot of abuse.

19.3.2012

I bought this calculator specifically for a corporate finance exam. But I think that will be a true friend for a long time. It displays widely and clearly every formulation that I input, allowing me to program even complex calculations as duration, annuities or even Black Scholes. I could not recommend this calculator more!

3.5.2010

Clearly set out functions, nice display. Unlike most Casio's I've used there aren't too many menus systems to go through for stats modes etc. On the down side the keyboard I would suggest is a bit light to the touch and it doesnt have distribution tables stored in it. A cheap and reasonably cheerful calculator.

20.10.2011

very quickly delivered and a great calculator, the write view function enables long equations to become simple to input, so you dont have to rembember to close 10 sets of brackets or something stupid. better than having to deal with those damn casio calculators which everybody seems to have
