I am not sure why pressure Cookers have dropped out of favour. I think they suffered bad press about 20 years ago when a combination of safety issues (very hot liquid at pressure) and a general feeling that this kind of cooking was "mumsy" made them uncool. I've always had one, but mine was an old one. The new one is similar in terms of being a large stainless steel pan with a pressure valve to create the pressure. However it is very sleek, economic and shiny. The biggest difference is the 5 safety features to reduce the risks of steam escaping. The Tefal Secure 5 Neo also offers two cooking programmes depending on ingredients used and result desired. Those 2 cooking modes are the vegetable mode or the meat and fish mode. The two modes make sure the right amount of pressure is used. This is so different from my simple old one. A cooking table for different ingredients is included in the user guide which is really helpful. Go to http://www.tefal.co.uk/recipe/ and look for pressure cooker recipes - there are some 30 starter recipes from creamy chicken to desserts. The beauty of using a pressure cooker is that the time taken is reduced by around half, and all the goodness stays in the pan. Amazon also have recipe books - see http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0670073180/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3?pf_rd_p=569136327&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00145WIM8&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=10WNYWBJ728JF6158THQA steaming basket is also included. This allows one to cook healthy steamed veg simultaneously with what is being cooked in the main chamber adding versatility to the product. The large 6 L capacity of the pot is big enough to cook food for up to six people. And lastly, a pressure cooker is absolutely perfect for cooking that gammon for Christmas, for cooking the Xmas pud ... lots of things. Every home should have one

I bought this to replace a Smart Plus pressure cooker that leaked constantly from the day I bought it.The Tefal is a much higher quality cooker, it has never leaked at all - brilliant. The lid and main pot are easy to close and open. The silicon lid seal ensures a good leak proof joint.Being made of stainless steel it is easy to clean with a little lemon juice. It is quite heavy when full but the handle on the opposite side of the main handles makes it easy to move around.I use mine on an induction hob and it works very well, comes up to pressure quickly, and cooks in a fraction of the time it would take using conventional saucepans. There are a number of safety devices to stop the pressure getting too high,so it is completely safe to use.Spare parts are easy to obtain from many dealers – if required! It cooks in the way that all pressure cookers do by increasing the pressure inside so thereby increasing the cooking temperature. This speeds up the cooking process and being a sealed container it keeps most of the nutrients in the food.I have seen a complaint that the silicon seal absorbs the odours of the cooking and releases them in storage, I have not had this problem, if I did I would simply put the seal in a large zip bag once washed for storage. If I have a complaint it would be that the polished finish is very easy to scratch in daily use.All in all I am very pleased with the Tefal 5 Neo 6ltr pressure cooker and wish I had not wasted my money on the Smart plus - live and learn!Anyone want a leaking pressure cooker? - that’s a Joke its gone in the bin!Read full review...

Our pressure cooker memories are of ugly aluminium devices with dodgy valves and a tendency to explode; we haven’t had one for well over thirty years. A passé image and potential danger perceptions caused their demise in most modern kitchens, but Tefal’s introduction of their ‘Secure 5 Neo Pressure Cooker’ range has put these issues and images firmly in the past.We have a number of recent Tefal cooking aids in the kitchen and have found all to be well made, robust and durable. The Secure 5 continues this trend and is a quality, modern looking product finished in stainless steel with black handles. The seemingly foolproof, 5 layer security features have consigned the dangerous elements to history. It’s no lightweight weighing in at 4.4kgs, so when using its 6 litre capacity to the full, you will be glad of the robust, ergonomic handles on each side.Loving curries, tajines and casseroles we frequently use a slow cooker; this is fine, provided you have time and planning on your side. Pressure cooking, locks in all the flavours of slow cooking but in a fraction of the time, allowing you to create a really flavoursome meal for those unexpected guests, typically in under thirty minutes! So get rid of any negative perceptions that you have and invest in a Secure 5 Neo Pressure Cooker. We’re won over and now think no kitchen should be without one. Pressure cooking takes times pressure away!

Not used a pressure cooker before but I do remember my mum rustling up some great meals with her old Prestige one. She would often use cuts of meat you wouldn't use today as well, lambs heart anybody? Her's was aluminium which I believe there were some health scares about, however no concerns with this one as it is made from heavy gauge stainless steel. It is very well finished and has the feeling of a premium product and is supplied with a vegetable steaming bucket, an instruction booklet, and a 10 year guarantee (although this only applies to the metal parts, the plastic bits are guaranteed for 1 year only). It is quite heavy but has a handle at the front to make it easier to lift, and is easy to open and close, relying on a gasket to seal. There are two pressure settings and 3 cooking modes (Steamed Vegetables, Immersed Vegetables and Meat,) along with numerous safety features. My first meal, a Gammon steak cooked quickly and tasted moist. The booklet does not include any recipes although it does give timing advice. This is not a major issue as there are plenty on the web and it will be interesting to experiment with different cuts of meat. If you are looking for a pressure cooker this looks to be as good as any and feels like it will last a long time.

Using pressure cooker is nothing new to me. Normally they last donkey years. I needed a new pressure cooker after we updated our cooker to an induction cooker. After looking for reviews, I have decided to go for Tefal Secure 5 Neo. And to be honest I am pleased that I did. Most of the old pressure cooker I used had weight and they used to make a lot of noises. Which is a very noticeable difference in these new silent pressure cookers. This pressure cooker is very shiny as you can see my pictures. This pressure cooker comes with two programmable settings. Low pressure (7PSI) setting took vegetables and high pressure (12PSI)to use for meat.ProsLight weightWell built handle with auto lock mechanismEasy to change from low to high pressure settingsThick base (triple layer) and this is very important not to burn your food while frying.Steaming basket included ( I haven’t used it yet)18/10 alloy to make it look very high quality6L capacity for whole familyConsInstruction could be better for people who are using pressure cooker for the first time.No other problem with the product so far and I shall update if anything I notice.

This is a great pressure cooker and for the price I'm sure can't be bettered. It replaced a 20+ year old prestige model that (in its day) was a huge improvement over the old fashioned type of pressure cooked I'd used before with weights you put on top. This represents as big an improvement over the old model as my replacement did 20 years ago. What's better:- it comes to pressure much more quickly- it is more energy efficient: a much lower setting is needed in the cooker to keep it at pressure- it loses less liquid during cooking through steam escaping- it is much quieter at pressureMy main concern was that (like all modern pressure cookers) it cooks at 13 PSI rather than 15 PSI.I know this will mean slightly longer cooking times once at pressure but as my old cooker took so long to come to pressure I'm not in reality losing any time.If you have an old rickety pressure cooker don't be sentimental and see what advances have been made in pressure cooker technology.

I am a huge fan of pressure cooking and this cooker is mostly to thank. It feels very sturdy and is very easy to use and clean and is not particularly loud. The pot has a sturdy bottom, which prevents stuff from burning (although beware if yo make tomato based dishes, they are tricky to pressure cook). It comes with a steamer which is useful for vegetable cooking and desserts. The pot strikes a sweet spot between weight and performance. I wouldn't call it light-weight, but it is not particularly heavy either. If you, like me, are considering whether to get a pressure cooker or a slow cooker, go for the pressure cooker. You can do basically the same thing, but in a fraction of time and so much more flavour. It makes about 2.5-3 litres of finished (strained) stock and you can have a creamy risotto on you table in 5 mins. If you are considering getting into a pressure-cooking, this is a great option, which is of a high quality but will not break the bank.

This has to be one of the best purchases I have made in a long time.It is well made and ultra easy to use, almost fool proof.I love cooking and I have enjoyed doing so for many years. Every now and again I would come across a recipe or advice from other home chefs that involved the use of a (dreaded) pressure cooker.I have terrifying memories of my Mam using one when I was a child, lots of steam, whistling and my Mam conducting it all with the prong on a fork.Well after many years of putting it off I did the research and bought this. It is so good and easy to use I bought one for my son and my Father (to replace the steam whistle).I do highly recommend this to anyone venturing in to using a pressure cooker, you wont regret it. I now struggle to understand how I ever got by without one.Potatoes never tasted so good and I can make homemade soup in 20 minutes.A sound investment for any home chef or otherwise for that matter.

I kid you not, this really is an eye opening utensil. It opens up so many possibilities.I can cook quick meals such a bolognas sauce, chilli con carne, casseroles, stews and much more in a fraction of the time, and to top it all, they taste and look like they were slow cooked.Things come out tender and tasty. This thing is a revelation.I can highly recommend it. Easy to wash too...no problem. It looks like the only part that would changing is the seal, but it looks like a consumable part that you could re-order easily and cheaply. This will be in the family for years and has made me so much more productive in the kitchen.Tip - buy the large size (this one) over a smaller one.You can always have less in this one whereas the smaller one can't fit more in (if you see what I mean)Almost forgot to say- it does a great job of steaming cabbage, cauliflower or any veg for that matter.Do yourself a favour and buy it !

I used a Tower pressure cooker for years to make casseroles, whole meals; and' to deal with softening fruit for jam and chutneys as well as for bottling fruit and veg that I don't want to freeze. However, my old pressure cooker was looking a bit the worse for wear and was not suitable for a ceramic hob. This one is simply brilliant. It is very easy to use, doesn;'t hiss when it's working and, as well as being suitable for all hob types, including induction, the pan goes into the dishwasher. The only thing that coiuld have been better would have been for there to be a separator for the veg/teamer tray. However, baking foil can be used to separate contents if this is really necessary.I would recommend this as a first pressure oooker for those who haven't used one before. So much better than using the microwave as all the nutrient and flavour is retained in the food - no escaping into water.

Like many others, I've had to buy a new pressure cooker as I'm going the induction hob route. Over the last 40 years I've had two high dome Tower pressure cookers - the latest with a calibrated weight to set three pressures. First impressions of the Tefal is that it looks a bit flimsy (I'm used to the heavy gauge needed for aluminium). However, the first couple of trials have been very satisfactory. The 12 psi max cooking pressure doesn't seem to slow down timings much (the Towers achieved 15psi). Without the clear colour bands of the Tower's weight, it's a bit trickier checking whether you're at pressure. The trick seems to be to back down the valve very, very slightly. If the hissing immediately increases, you know you're up to steam. No recipe book, but old pressure cooker hands won't need one. Don't know how robust the valve and seal will be over time. I'll have to wait!

Never considered a pressure cooker before I got this, but since getting it I've discovered much faster cooking with more flavour than I have before, a stew with cheap cuts of beef cook to tender almost falling apart In about 15 minutes.Tried oxtail for the firs time today, 45 minutes and it was falling off the bone and so moist.Pulled pork in 1hr10 minutes!Even simple things like boiled potatoes, done in 10 mins, the texture they have is completely different than boiling them for 15 minutes. This is easy to use, easy to clean, although the shiny lid does scratch up after the first use but I'm not bothered.Use it on a gas hob on full till it builds pressure then change it to the smallest burnerto tick over until ready.

I am one of those people with terrifying memories of the early 70's and the silver monster in the kitchen! It made the most awful loud hissing like it was going to explode and the weights jangled loudly together while my Mom ran across the kitchen with it to put it under a tap! It used to scare me as a child half to death each time.So it was with a lot of trepidation that I researched and then eventually bought my own pressure cooker. Even then when it arrived I was too nervous to try it at first!Anyway- I did and I love it! My new pressure cooker isn't loud or frightening at all!! Casseroles and lamb shanks are cooked to perfection in no time. It's easy! My message is- if I can do it,you can too!!Go for it!

I have not used a Pressure Cooker in many years. In fact when I was growing up in the 1970's I can remember my Grandma's cooker blowing up and the meal ended up on the ceiling. This cooker incorporates 5 different security systems and it is therefore so much better made than those my Granny used. It has 2 cooking programmes, which you can alter and you can use it on all hobs. The quality of this product is outstanding and it is clearly very well made, coming with a 10 year guarantee. So the quality of the cooker is exceptional and therefore as I would have expected it cooks food with ease and speed. Overall this is a super pressure cooker and I am happy to highly recommend this item.

A good solid pressure cooker. Could do with better instructions for times for different dishes. I am still using the instructions from my old one. It has taken me a while to get used to the 'whisper' when it is up to pressure - it is hard to be sure it is 'doing'. The instructions say the valve assembly should be removed each time before use so as to check the hole is not blocked. This is a pfaff and I suspect I will 'forget' to do it soon. I find that a lot less liquid evaporates than with my old one but that may be because the old one had a dodgy seal. Generally very pleased with it. Shuts and opens well but best cooled under a tap before letting the steam out.
