I bought this to replace an aluminium pressure cooker of the same size. Now, it's not a wide 8 litre, but a tall 8 litre. It also doesn't come with basket/seperators so you will have to purchase those seperately. Considering the price of the item I found this a bit disappointing. There are several differences between my old pressure cooker and this one. Firstly, it's so quiet. I mean, really quiet.Knowing which pressure level you are at is easy, thanks to markings on the valve - no more 'is this spinning at the right rate' etc. When I read the instruction booklet, I thought it was wrong honestly. I thought, how can I possibly cook food with so little water. So, I used the amounts my old pressure cooker called for.Mistake - it's surprising how little water escapes with this cooker. This cooker is also very economical on the fuel. I have a gas cooker and for most things it will maintain high pressure at just above the lowest setting of a normal ring on my cooker. To hit the lower pressure setting I use the small ring instead. To give an idea of cooking speed, once up to pressure, it takes four minutes for cut potatoes to be ready to mash. Casserole beef is done in around 20 - 25 minutes, so very speedy. I use water hot out of the kettle to add to the cooker to speed it up getting to pressure. One difference I did notice with this cooker is it doesn't lock into place as I'm used to. If you push it around all the way, the handles don't align. It's in the correct position with the handles aligned - just something to be aware of for those of us who are used to a locking system. All in all, if you can swallow the cost, I would heartily recommend this cooker for beginners and veterans to pressure cooking alike. It's well made, non scary, economical to run and hopefully will provide many years of faithful service, and the way fuel prices are rising, it will probably pay for itself in the first couple of months anyway :P

I've now used this pressure cooker twice (which doesn't sound much, but I've had a presteige cooker for the past 30 years which has just died and I needed a new one) and have been impressed with the silence! Don't get me wrong, it's not totally silent, when it got up to pressure it let out little puffs of hissing steam until I'd got the temperature regulated, and you can hear the liquid boiling, but my old cooker was a bit noisy and scary, and this one was quiet and calm (I kept waiting for 'something' to happen... it never did)!Having said that, I could have done with a more expansive booklet explaining how to set it up. It said that the valve needed to be screwed on tightly, when I put the top on it didn't screw on any more tightly and twirled happily... highly confusing.. and the rubber gasket needs to lie on the roof and be under the flanges, no matter what I did, this did not happen as the flanges move and the gasket being thick rubber popped out! In the end I gave up trying, took a deep breath, turned it on and stood back... just in case! No problem at all. I cooked a whole large chicken (which took up the base almost completely) without any trouble (took about 15 minutes to get up to pressure), but I will add an extra 5 minutes to the cooking time next time as it was still pink in the joints. Practice and a bit of extra time whilst experimenting is all that this will need. Its a very tall cooker, but feeds my family of 5 with ease, it will be coming on holiday with us as I will be able to do a whole meal in the one pan. Excellent.

I don't have a huge amount of experience with pressure cookers, but after owning a T-Fal Clipso 6qt, which I loved so much, I started eyeing the better brands. Here are my thoughts:1. The exhaust valve on this model is beautiful and also extremely sturdy. I dropped the lid on my Clipso and the plastic pressure knob was damaged, and I couldn't find where to get a new knob. I think the KR would survive a similar fall because the mechanism is all-metal. If it did break, KR seems to sell all sorts of replacement parts2. From what I understand, the pressure on the KR goes higher than the Clipso3. This is much quieter than the Clipso - it basically doesn't make any sound except for at the start, when the pressure knob engages, and if the pressure goes too high and the steam needs to exit4. Obviously it's more efficient than pressure cookers that constantly let out a bit of steam5. The lid is harder to lock than the Clipso, requiring precise alignment and a twist, but it's also lighter and easier to carry6. I think it probably just needs cleaning, but the pressure "knob" doesn't engage as easily as when I first got it7. Beans seem to cook better in this than the Clipso. Not sure why - maybe it's just a different batch of beans\\8. I love the sizeOverall, I am completely satisfied with this pot. It's one of those things I hope will be passed down to my children.

OK...so it's not a fetish, but this is my 6th Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker. Since I still have all six and regularly use four of them...it's a given that I like them. I've acquired my six over a number of years. I purchased the first one when we had to use a rubber mallet to get the lid off my cheap Presto. Very dangerous when they warp. That won't happen with the Kuhn Rikon. My needs and number of people to feed has changed. Usually I use my Kuhn Rikon pressure canner to make stock but now find it a bit too heavy to lift out any more often than I have to (like during canning season when it is constantly in use). So now I have this new one for stock. But it is a perfect size for larger quantity foods as well.Beware,it's a bit of trial and error to figure out sizes, even with the dimensions being given on Amazon or the Kuhn Rikon web sites.Who needs a slow cooker when you have a fast cooker like these! And no risks or uncertainties that come with slow cooker cooking.

I have avoided pressure cookers since some bad experiences with hissy fitty cookers in the 1970's - if that is your experience, technology and ease of use have developed over the decades. This 8lt cooker is not too wide thus taking up only a 'normal' large pan amount of space on the cooker. We use gas and tried it for mashed potato - 5 mins once the pressure was up (and this took less time than bringing a pan of water with potatoes to the boil) and the potatoes were done - better flavour than normal and lovely and fluffy / dry - just perfect for mashing (or roasting). An excellent purchase which will save gas time and looks like will also give excellent results.

This is the first ever pressure cooker I bought. I was always a bit worred about using any pressure cooker especially having been told some scary stories about it and the noise it could produce. But my wife and I really wanted something that would be able to cook faster. My aunt told me about Kuhn Rikon and showed me her 20 year old Kuhn Rikon cooker set that she's still using today. That gave us some confidence about the brand and so we bought one. We have used it a few times now and so far I have to say it's very quiet and cooks very well too. It cuts the cooking time by about 2/3. It's also very easy to clean. We are so far very satisfied with this purchase.

Have used this once to make stock/bone broth. Normally that would entail boiling away in a saucepan, smelling out the house, making the cats go crazy, and a greasy kitchen at the end of it all. Along comes the Kuhn Rikon for my birthday and how delighted am I!!! I made some lovely stock. Didn't have to keep topping up the water level as it boiled away, the smell was at a minimum, no greasy kitchen!! What's not to love. Yes it was a bit noisy when it got up to temperature, frightened the cat!! But maybe I just needed to reduce temperature or move to slower heat source. I'm sure I will master that next time. Easy to clean. Expensive but worth every penny.

This is no doubt a high quality pressure cooker and performs well as expected. I note that the model I received has an offset to the handles when in the locked position, which, I am sure should not be the case in an item of this price. This is obviously a manufacturing error (or do all have an an offset), or perhaps it is to give quick visual confirmation that the lid is indeed locked. I would be interested to know other customer,s thoughts on the handle. In the end it is a very good and efficient device and very quiet in operation so I shall soldier on with it and ignore the offset handles. it is also unfortunate that it cannot go in the dishwasher!!.

I didn't think I could get so excited by a pressure cooker but this really has done it for me. There are two 8 litre kuhn rikons available. I think this is taller than the other, which suits me as I use it most often to make soup. The build quality is superb, looks really sleek. The first time, it wouldn't come up to pressure but that is because I didn't put the gasket in properly. So quiet, not heavy so it is easy to wash. Go on, spend the little extra that this costs, you won't be disappointed

If you have an 'old' pressure cook you will be blown away by this. My previous cooker was decades old (literally!) and this was bought as a replacement. What a difference - very very effective, very quick. Incredible to use - SO easy and hardly any noise or steam at all. I use my gas hob on the lowest setting possible and it keeps this at pressure. These are at the pricier end of pressure cookers and others may be as good, but I chose this one and am extremely pleased that I did.

Superb quality. Excellent Design.- Very quiet PC.- Handles are usable even after extended cooking.- Performs very well with even heat distribution.- Efficient. Very little gas escapes.- Requires less attention than other pressure cookers.- Gas release mechanism is quick and easy.- All spare parts available on Amazon. Although unsure if Kuhn Rikon will supply the parts if your PC is still under warranty.Feels built to last. Most likely the best PC on the market.

Awesome in every sense. Lightning fast cooking (saves £'s on energy bills), indestructible build quality (never buy another again) and spot on customer service/after care. It can take a little while to get used to cooking with a pressure cooker as more seasoning is always required compared to conventional methods, but once mastered you will wonder why you didn't use one sooner.

I have never owned a pressure cooker before and can easily say that i'm glad i have invested in one. My friend introduced me to it when i asked what's that noise in her house. Well my one doesn't make that noise!!! it is so quiet and cooks things so quickly. I'm definitely gonna save a lot on my energy. And by the way it requires minimum water. What's not to like? :)

This pressure cooker is fantastic; it is silent, no condensation, a money saver in reducing cooking time. The best pressure cooker I have ever owned, but despite treating this highly regarded pressure cooker with great respect the inside remains stained and the special Khuhn Rikon cleaning cleanser fails to restore to original pristine condition.

13.6.2016

Omg, the best pressure cooker you can buy. Really really good, works at it should. Everyone who comes in our house keep asking what is it ? Pressure cooker, no way don't look like anything they see before. So much low noise or should I dare say no noise at all when in pressure. So go and buy one if u can afford it and want a pressure cooker.
