This is a modern pressure cooker - easy to use and not in the least bit scary. The removeable gasket fits easily into the inside of the lid, then simply align using the etched arrows, turn and ... done.It takes a little while to get up to pressure and there's an indicator bar showing when low and high pressure is reached. It's very energy efficient - once it's up to high pressure I can keep it there on my smallest gas ring, set to its lowest flame. Indeed if I want low pressure I have to keep turning off the gas. These days I do everything on high pressure. This is one of those gadgets that I don't use often but is absolutely invaluable when I do use it - for making stock. A chicken carcass, plus all the usual stock vegetables. Cover with water, cook for 1 hour. The pressure stops the liquid boiling and so the stock is beautifully clear. Cool, strain, take off any fat, reduce and pour into ice-cube bags. Instant home-made stock. As there's no added salt you can use this stock in any concentration you like - simply season at the end.Pressure cooker beef stew is also a revelation - braising steak, swede, carrots, onions and potatoes in large chunks. A little salt & pepper, perhaps a little Bisto to thicken. 30 mins and you have the most fabulous winter one pot dinner.I particuarly like this pressure cooker as it has the long handle - easy to move and easy to close.I'd make a note about size. This 5L is the smallest I would consider. It will, just, take a small chicken carcass and the stock veg.If you are cooking anything that expands - purees, pulses, porridge, etc, then the recommendation is not to fill over 1/3 full. 1/3 of a 5L pot is not a huge amount.Unlike many reviewers, and I defer to them, I've never cooked veg in a pressure cooker. "Bring to high temperature and cook for one minute" is a level of exactitude I'm not able to manage, especially as it's impossible to test the doneness of the vegetables without depressurising. On the other hand it you have the perfect timings, you'll just follow those every time.No...for me a pressure cooker is for "long slow cooking with all the flavours sealed in"...in a third of the time.If I were buying again I think I'd go for the 6L or 8L models (although they do not have the long handle).

This is my first pressure cooker. My wife has always had them, but when I showed an interest in using hers, as a vegetarian, she banned me cooking meat in it. So, I looked to see what was available in a size that would suit just me for a single meal and this was the smallest I could find.Pressure cookers are the titans of cookware, and this small one is still a big pan compared to normal saucepans. As such it is big enough to make, say, a curry for four people. It is probably too small however to use pot-in-pot methods, when you say, put some rice and water inside a bowl in the cooker. It feels well made, is straightforward in how it works and is easy to clean, even when the pressure valve gets full of food that you shouldn't have tried cooking in there, or had overfilled it.The pan has allowed me to move confidently into the world of pressure cooking, and I use it regularly. It is especially good for things like curries or chillies that traditionally taste better the next day. Not so in the pressure cooker that makes the meat tender and intermingles the flavours in 20 minutes. It makes a creme brulee simply too. There are cheaper pots out there, but I see this as a once in a lifetime buy (spare parts are all available at a reasonable price on Amazon), so am happy to pay the £90 I did. I think if I were to get hooked on pressure cooking (unlikely), I'd probably need a larger one for some things, like cooking a whole chicken.

This is the first pressure cooker I've bought for myself cos I'm just loving the sleek design. my mother has been using kuhn rikon since before I was born and they design amazing products. Though a bit more pricey than other brands, I'm assured by her kuhn rikon pots that have lasted decades, the quality is amazing.I cook mostly only for myself, about 2 to 3 portions at a go, and this is so easy to use. Although pots with long handles take up a bit more space, I prefer pressure cookers to have the long handle cos its effortless to slide it open.Extremely time and energy saving, especially for soups. The normal way to make a soup requires getting the liquid boiling then keeping it on low heat for a long time, but since I use an electrical hob, I turn it to the maximum to quickly build up pressure, then turn the stove off when I think its about to reach the pressure I want, the remaining heat keeps the pressure up and my soup cooking. Not only is this energy saving, I can safely leave the pot by itself in the kitchen because the stove is off and water won't over boil or need any topping up of liquids.probably a bit more troublesome to wash than an average pot, but I've heard that its easier to keep this model of Kuhn rikon clean than other pressure cookers cos of the removable "cap".There are many places online that I can find this cooker, but this particular model is really a worthy investment.

I must admit I ummed and arghed for a long time before taking the plunge and buying this pressure cooker. I've never used or owned one before. I contacted Kuhn Rikon customer services for advice between 2 different models and they were very helpful. I did look at a couple of other brands in stores, but just wasn't impressed with how they looked and felt - some of them looked quite complicated!I wish I had bought the Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker years ago. I love it - it is so easy to use and not at all scary. It looks really sleek and clean in design, and when under pressure there is hardly any steam loss, so no worries about windows steaming up! It is also really easy to clean. So far I've cooked potatoes and veggies, which only take about 8 mins, I've cooked a wonderful beef and onion pie filling and instead of about 2.5 hours it took about 20 mins once under pressure, and a couple of boiled gammon joints which again take about 20 mins. All have been so tasty!!I was surprised how quickly when taken off the heat it naturally reduces pressure - you only need a couple of minutes before you can open the lid.I just need to experiment a bit more with what I cook in it. A while after I had it, I also bought the 3 section basket for it too, which is fab also.If you've been umming and aarghing - go for it - I haven't regretted it at all - and I don't think you will either!

I am a devotee of pressure cookers. I've used pressure cookers for over 40 years (I started young!) and think that this brand is the best. I have 3 small and 3 large (tall) ones that cover small and large quantities. I've still use one of this brand I bought 30 years ago. I cook virtually all vegetables that are normally cooked in water/stock in pressure cookers. If I can give a tip from long experience, don't put the veg on the shallow trivet supplied with the cooker, instead use a steamer basket that that lifts the veg well above the level of the water as this ensures that your vegetables are effectively steamed quickly and don't get soggy. Things like cabbage, cauliflower, potatoes and swede are much nicer done this way than when boiled in water. Floury potatoes for mash aren't soggy and fluff up beautifully when mashed.Another benefit, is that once the pressure has been released, the veg can sit on the trivet above the hot water to keep warm until served without spoiling.Suet puddings, such as steak and kidney, cook much more quickly than merely immersed in simmering water as do dried beans and cereals such as barley. The only caveat to pressure-cooking is that timing is of the essence. You need to use timers with minutes and seconds. For example, broccoli florets need less than a minute (depending on taste) after full pressure is reached.

Good quality built, small but big enough for 2.This is the first Pressure Cooker I use, because I've been scared of the old style pressure cooker in the 80s. I thought it would be difficult to use, how wrong was I, it is very easy - the user manual is well written, how to use it and also giving guide times for different ingredients. So far I've cooked different vegetables - potatoes, carrots, kale, broccoli, etc; and find that the veg are softer than I would like, so I jotted down less time on the manual so the next time they were perfect for me. I've also cooked oxtail, chicken and beef joint, and very happy with the result.I am particularly happy with how much faster it cooks compared to normal or slow cooking.I've saved time as well as money as I use less gas for my cooking. I should've used this pressure cooker years ago!I have since bought a larger (28cm 8ltr) Kuhn Rikon to cook larger meals. One niggle - It's a bit difficult to keep this beauty spotless, but I still give it 5 star for the performance.

My old pressure cooker came with a decent recipe book. This has a leaflet with suggested timings, water level and pressure levels 1 or 2. Level 1 is 0.4 bar equivalent to 5.8psi and level 2 is 0.8 bar equivalent to 11.6 psi. This is well short of the high pressure on my old Prestige cooker which was 15 psi at high pressure. This means my old recipes have to be adjusted to take more time cooking. The cooker is solidly built and works well. There are very few recipes on the website but it does include one for Christmas pudding. It does come with a decent trivet, which sadly Prestige no longer seem to do, but no vegetable basket. It is also difficult to keep the pressure level steady and I need to keep a constant eye on it to maintain it at the right level.

I've had this pressure cooker for over 2 years now, and it's my go-to for casseroles, curries, beef bourguignon, lentils, beans, pork shoulder, bolognese... anything where the recipe has you cooking something for hours. If you've ever used an older/cheaper pressure cooker that uses weights to control a steam valve, you will immediately appreciate how quiet the Kuhn Rikon system is. Steam is only released if the system goes over pressure, so when you have the heat dialed in correctly it's silent. That's a huge plus. It's incredibly well made, very easy to clean, durable and has withstood two years of constant use with ease. Yes,it is expensive -- but you are getting a high quality product with some unique capabilities.

I have memories of my grandmother's rather scary pressure cooker from when I was young. This is absolutely nothing like it - silent, effortless and so amazing at cooking. The turkey breasts I cooked were succulent and delicious! I am mostly veggie so I now have a whole new world of dried pulses to try out without the hours and hours of cooking. It doesn't work for split peas which was a little disappointing (I did wonder where all that foamy scum would go - answer into the valve) but small upset. I got the 3.5L which is so neat and stylish. And incredibly robust - getting the parcel to the door, tripped on a step and landed on top of it.There is a small abrasive mark but absolutely no dent whatsoever.

For anyone new to, or coming back to pressure cooking, this cooker ticks all the boxes. Gone are the scarey days of hisses and whistles which put me off using them completely. This one is quiet and works beautifully. It isn't none stick which I felt might be a bit of a problem, but it is so easy to clean anyway, that it really hasn't mattered. The instructions are clear and concise, the after sales team are on the ball (mine arrived without the complimentary cook book, one phone call and it was delivered 2 days later.I have not had it for very long so in honesty can't testify to its longevity, but it is a joy to use and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend it to even the most nervous novice.

I have three pressure cookers over the past 20 years (all still in use), but this is by far the best (although priciest). The gasket is very soft, and after five years it still stays like that, while the Tefal one went stiff and lost air-tightness after only 1.5 years. Another advantage of Kuhn Rikon over Tefal is that the gasket does not smell. The build of the lid is also superior. There are very few places to trap or lose steam, so it is far more energy efficient, and less liquid is lost. Being Swiss made, it is not only sleek but beautifully engineered. The only gripe I have is that it does not go into the dishwasher.

This replaces a 30 year old prestige pressure cooker which had done stirling service around the world. Decided on this replacement as the quality of the prestige did not seem to be as good as the original. So glad I chose the Kuhn Rikon as it is extremely well made and has been in daily use since receiving about a month ago. The cooking ability and ease of use is very impressive. The only downside is the poor cooking instructions for different types of food in the handbook plus there are no recipes. This could prove difficult for a novice pressure cooker user, which is a shame as it is such an excellent product.

I had a pressure cooker years ago but ended up cleaning food off the ceiling just one time too many. I liked the look and features of the Kuhn Rikon and chose this after reading many reviews. This one feels a lot safer than my old one, it's very quiet and easy to use, no wobbly weight or angry hiss of steam when you touch the pan. The food I've made so far has turned out really well and I've had no problems with food sticking, even with recipes that contain sticky items such as barley. It produces amazing steamed puddings, the ones that take you instantly back to your childhood. Very pleased with it.

I have had a weighted pressure cooker for years now, but recently when I was cooking lamb shoulder in it, my son asked me if I was cooking toast. Sure enough the water had reduced to nothing and my vegetables were burnt under the lamb. I did the research and bought a kuhn. I have to say that I have been impressed. When they say it's quiet, it's completely silent. No steam escapes, no boiling dry. I have used it for beef joints, lamb joints, curries, soups, and it performs consistently well. It comes with no inserts, but I just used the ones from my old cooker. I wouldn't be without it.

We are very happy with this pressure cooker and with excellent service from Kuhn Rikon in general. We in fact also have a bigger 8L version -- and in my carelessness, i dropped the lid and broke one of the plastic handles. Since this was my fault, i contacted Kuhn Rikon to purchase a replacement lid. Fast response back was -- i didn't need a new lid -- i just needed replacement handles and Kuhn Rikon would send these to me FOC as soon as possible!!!This is fantastic. Such good service obviously buys loyalty and so its very "good business".
