This fantastic fryer was bought as a replacement for a sent-back, almost good Tower fryer.Pros...• Compared with other similar style fryers I've used, this has a slightly superior look and feel to it, with a sturdier, higher quality construction with slightly less flimsy/less thin steel.• Unlike many other old-school fryers which have useless (and dangerous) lids, which have their steam vents unwisely blocked with pad-like filters, this fryer has clear, non-blocked openings for vents, which safely allows steam to escape, but in a controlled, narrow stream — which works very well in conjunction with an overhead extractor fan...which any fryer should be placed under while in use (in my opinion).• Unlike many other similar fryers, the white temperature numbers (and other text) on the control panel is NOT cheap, printed-on paint which easily disintegrates/rubs-off when gently cleaning — even with a soft, wet cloth. The white text on the Tefal seems to be made of white plastic which sits flush with the black plastic surface of the control panel. Not only is it impossible to rub this off, but it adds to the high-quality look of the fryer.• The consistency of any selected temperature is fairly decent and up there with many other decent fryers I've used.• The oil tank and basket is deeper and wider when compared with other three-litre fryers I've used.• Due to the decent width and hight of the unit, the length of the fryer is a little shorter than others — which means that it can easily fit, with room to spare, in my kitchen cupboard, when not in use (and cooled-down)Cons...• Nothing moderate-to-major that I can think of.• Although, unlike many other fryers, this one does not have a small compartment that can neatly house the power-cable and plug when not in use.• A pinging timer would have been nice.• A four-litre version of this would, for me, have been preferable, and the ability to buy a spare oil tank would be great — but sadly Tefal don’t offer either option.--------Tips for folk new to deep-frying chips (and other food)…• With any traditional fryer like this — with or without a good, functional lid — I strongly recommend (for obvious reasons) to only use it while placed under a decent, overhead extractor fan — like you would with any other kind of frying or boiling.• Make sure to only use recognised 'chipping-potatoes’ when frying chips. e.g. Potatoes like 'english chippers' (AKA english Maris Pipers), Markies, Russets …and Agrias (or any other type of Mediterranean-style, 'dry', floury potato). Sadly, despite some false claims, ’Scottish Maris Pipers’ are very hit and miss for chips (usually ‘miss’), especially when compared to the other aforementioned potatoes …for me, they only very rarely fry decently and more often than not come out very soggy.Other more common, waxy, wetter potatoes will produce horrible, bitter, brown/burned, soggy, greasy chips ...or hard, inedible chips (if you don’t cook them long enough to go brown/burned). Conversely, proper 'chipping spuds' — once, chipped, washed and dried — will very quickly go firm or crispy on the surface, but go soft and fluffy on the inside ...and are almost impossible to visually burn/go brown.Despite what some UK manuals and what some other people say, it works very well with both beef-dripping* and olive oil — both of which can be safely used several times per week for several months …and longer still if (from time to time) they are decanted and then filtered using thin kitchen-roll or a fine metal mesh to get rid of both fine and coarse debris. Both frying mediums can safely be used at the full 190c.BEEF DRIPPING…’Refined and deodorised’ beef dripping makes very tasty, authentic, old-school chippy chips (and plain, non-battered deep fried chicken). Thanks to this, I will never go to the increasingly expensive, low-standard chip-shops ever again.FYI according to more recent studies, pure beef dripping used at its peak temperature and consumed in moderation is not that bad for you …and even good for you in certain ways — especially when compared to ’nasty’, highly processed, chemically extracted oils like vegetable, corn or pomace.*Make sure to be (initially) patient and slowly warm the solidified beef dripping at a low, gentle temperature for a few minutes, before cranking-up the fryer to full heat.OLIVE OIL…Mediterraneans (like half of my family) love fried food, and eat a lot of good, dry, non-greasy chips …and contrary to the unqualified, nonsensical statements by many big-mouthed, commenters online, olive oil IS indeed fantastic for both shallow and deep fried chips — even more so if you use spuds which are truly suitable for chipping. Some ‘uninitiated’ folk might find the first batch of chips a bit sharp or fruity in taste (not me), but from the second or third batch onwards you will lose that taste. Olive oil will give you much healthier, amazing, non-greasy, tasty chips — with an oil which can be used repeatedly over many months (especially if filtered now and again)Happy frying folks!

If thinking portion size it does a family of four for just chips and that amount is about a quarter of a dinner plate size. Three adults and one teenager and a few for dog. No way could you put everything into it though for a full family of four though as would not fit.We tend to do just chips so getting used mainly just for those. When oil nearer to changing fish etc will be thrown into it but at the moment just chips. Have learnt the hard way best to go for a fryer that can go into dishwasher as saves so much time cleaning it, this one the lid basket etc goes in and comes out clean without any hard work. We usually choose a fryer under thirty pounds that way after about two years of use and it seems a bit worn at least not too much money spent before replacing it.So for the high price tag this has thought it might be even better than usual one. What I like about it is the viewing window allows you to see without getting any hot oil or steam everywhere. That along with the fact the basket and that can go into the dishwasher for easy cleaning. The one bug bear is the basket, if leaving the oil in you can not leave basket in as needs some space to store in cupboard, ok handle does go into basket but still needs a home. Seems solid and not wobbly when lifting from one room to another, usually keep in garage next to kitchen and does not seem flimsy when being moved.I like this fryer but a bit of a steep price, why I say this is that I bought another make the other year, a Fusion express trading) and this Tefal one is very similar to it apart from costing more, roughly twice the price and does it make the chips taste any better? No actually they taste the same and family had no idea another was used taste wise. So if buying another I would consider the previous one I had to save some cash.So a good fryer but costs a bit too much compared to some others on the market, seems almost like you are paying for the brand name.Crickey how many variations on a fryer can you get? This one has the same type of operation elements and dial as most other generic ones on the market but at a price.Once fish has been fried will update review with the outcome of those but for the moment chips are done nicely.update. Scampi does lovely in it as good as previous fryer (which sadly got paint dropt on it).

I’ve been in need of a new deep fat fryer for a while and this one really looked the part. It is a really good price (£41 at the time of writing this review), is light weight, looks good and still has a decent size of basket for frying. Sounds like a winner.I was even happier when I realised that this fryer really lives up to expectations.Firstly, it’s quite easy to manoeuvre the device, even when it’s full with oil. It’s not too heavy and the lid fits easily and neatly. The unit is called ‘Easy Pro Semi Professional’ which I’m assuming just means that it’s a bit sleeker than cheaper models. Having said that, I really do like the look of it. It’s stainless steel and has nice extras like a handle for the lid,a viewing screen and everything fits together with cuts-outs for handles, fixtures etc. It just looks the part and fits well in the kitchen. The controls are also attractive and very simple to use.I found that the fryer filled with 3 litres of Crisp and Dry oil which I thought was a good amount - not too much but still created a good depth to fry in.With regards to frying - the fryer did a great job. It heated up quickly and the basket was easy to fill, easy to hook onto the side and simple to sit in the oil.My only problem, and it’s very small, is that the instructions suggest you fry with the lid over the unit. There’s air holes in the top of the lid and a viewing window so you can keep an eye on the food. I was fine with this and the lid sits on top neatly. However, unsurprisingly, the viewing window gets steamed up and condensed within seconds of the lid going on. That makes the window a little bit pointless other than to get a rough idea of the colour of your food. Then, when you go to lift the lid, the condensation turns to spots of water which can drip into the oil if you don’t move the lid away quickly enough. That causes the oil to hiss and spit which wasn’t very nice. I’ll simply not pop the lid on top the next time I fry things.Overall, I really liked this fryer. It’s more than worth the price and it’s a great unit to have in your kitchen to fry anything and everything you like. 4 stars.

First, a caveat on the size: the blurb says that the capacity “will allow you to enjoy delicious chips, onion rings, doughnuts or breaded prawns for the entire family”. You need the most capacity per person for chips; this fryer is big enough for the two of us, but not when we have others to dinner. OK, the food capacity is 1.2 kg, which would be enough chips for four people, but then you wouldn’t be able to get much oil in to cook them.) The container is deep, but the basket is comparatively small; if the element were mounted a bit lower in the container, the basket could have been significantly bigger. On the upside, if (like us) you don’t use the fryer often and don’t want it in the way,a compact like this is obviously easier to store in a cupboard.Otherwise, it’s pretty good overall. There’s not really much you can say about it when in use: it heats up quickly, the variable temperature control works fine, and chips are done well (as distinct from well-done!) The basket handle is a bit flimsy, and you need to hold it securely to feel confident. This is another design issue which shouldn’t have been that hard to fix.Unlike some fryers, the oil container is well supported within the frame, and there is a decent set of feet so that the whole thing stays in place when in use. The inside of the container is high-gloss, but not non-stick; we haven’t yet washed it, but as the manufacturer claims all the parts are dishwasher-safe, one assumes it is OK. The lid could be a better fit, but perhaps that’s a one-off on the one we got. It’s slightly more of a concern that the edges on the holes in the lid for the handle are fairly sharp; this could mean that in time the chrome could come off the handle, which wouldn’t be good. The min/max line is large and easy to see, which as my wife said is a distinct advantage over our old fryer. It’s good to have a viewing window, but you need to clean it after use to ensure you can see through it next time. It’s in the same price range as compacts of similar quality. As always, it depends what you want, and for us it isn’t really big enough.

I have always been impressed with Tefal products and this deep fat fryer is no exception, it is just the thing for a weekly fry up. The Tefal Easy Pro comes extremely well packed inside a good-quality cardboard box.Long before deep fat fryers came into vogue, I had been using an old saucepan with a chip basket placed inside, this pan was always to be found on one of the back rings of the cooker already filled with oil a lid and covered. The more complicated modern deep fat fryers and I didn't get along too well and I was pleased to note that this deep fat fryer is reminisce of my old trusty saucepan fryer. It is a very good looking machine designed in brushed stainless steel with black plastic handles and controls. The machine itself measures 38 cm in length by 20 cm in width and 19 cm in height not including the handle. The basket measures 23.5 cm in length by 15 cm in width by 8 cm in height. The basket sits neatly in the machine and the handle folds inwards for storing. The stainless steel lid has a viewing window and a black plastic handle. There is nothing complicated about this Fryer, it is simply a case of heating up the fryer to your desired heat setting, then placing your choice of food into the basket, lowering it into the hot oil and leaving it there for the required amount of time. There are three heat settings 150°C, 170°C and 190°C which are obtained by the simple use of a dial.I have used this deep fat fryer to cook chips for my family, the machine can take 3L of oil and the basket will hold approximately 1kg of chipped potatoes. For our size family of two adults, one child and six teenagers I needed to cook three batches of chips. Each batch of chips took approximately 14 minutes to cook and I kept each batch warm in the oven as I cooked the rest, I then quickly refried the chips for about two minutes in the hot oil again before I served them up . My whole family were delighted with the results the chips were nice and crispy on the outside and remained soft and fluffy on the inside much better than oven chips.Sorted.

I’ve used a deep fat fryer (albeit infrequently) since the early 1980s. The first one I bought was a round white Tefal, which cooked to perfection but was difficult to keep clean. Only the fry tray was washable. Since then, I’ve had about 3 different stainless steel oblong fryers ranging in price from just over £20 to around £100 for a Sage fryer. The Sage I returned unused as the lid was twisted and poor quality. So, back to a relatively basic Tefal. It’s robust. The build quality of the fryer and lid is e cells to. Very sturdy and the side handles are easy to grip and hold, even when the oil within is hot. The heating element is raised from the base of the oil, so any bits don’t burn and taint the oil.The basket is strong as is the folding handle. Overall, the basket and contents are an excellent fit. I bought a similar looking fryer, but the contents of the basket frequently spilled over into the fat, even when well below the limits. This fryer is well designed. It heats the oil quickly; 3ltr was at 190 degrees within 8 minutes. The viewing panel is useful to keep an eye on whether the contents are cooking correctly. For chips, I prefer to bring oil to temp, cook for a couple of mins, pull out of oil to allow it to reheat to 190, then cook again. Correct oil temp is critical to get chips with bite on the outside and fluffy cooked inside. It’s compact and overall, I’m really pleased with it. Temp light goes out when oil reaches heat, so it’s easy to judge. Very easy to clean as it all comes apart and even when filled to max, 3lt of oil and 1.2 kg food, there’s no overspill of fat and virtually no splashing, so it’s safe. I like it a lot.

This is a good deep fat fryer, once you get over the fact that it is compact in size. You're not going to be frying industrial quantities of food in it and it is surprising just how little food there is in 1.2kg, If everything you were cooking for a particular meal was fried. you'd need to cook the ingredients in shifts and store them warm somewhere whilst you cooked the next item. However, with that one criticism out of the way, this does exactly what it is built for and does it well. Chips (or fries if you prefer that term) I double fry when we have them fried and this allowed for that. It is quite compact so won't take up a lot of room either on a kitchen worktop or stored in a cupboard. The temperature is set via the dial on the console at the back of the unit whilst timing is left up to you and your preferences. There is a poor instruction manual that comes with the fryer which is just about comprehensible but could be better. All the internal equipment; oil tank, frying basket and lid are dishwasher safe and do wash up well once you've drained the oil from the tank. If there's only two of you or there's only one element of your meal that you're frying then this is a very good and compact fryer. If you're entertaining, have several people in the household or are frying several items at once, you may need to go up a size and choose a larger capacity fryer. However, this is easy to use, good for small quantities of food and definitely compact enough to sit on a work space if you fry a lot.

This vine reviewed item compares well to my other brand of fryer which was also a vine review item. As the household is of two and has a small kitchen one of them is has to go in the attic for storage. This new fryer:It is smaller and the description of compact by the company tefal is a deserved one.It frys true temperature (tried chips and on another occassion doughnuts). My current fryer over cooked my chips while blanching them so they were brown and not just soft after only 5 minutes whereas the new fryer blanched the chips so they were still white but soft.It looks really good with its plain stainless steel and viewing window. The wall of the fryer reached 40 degree c during use at 190degree c and was not too hot to touch. The fryer does not have a draining tap which my current one (a delonghi) does have. I always store my oil once cool back in the bottles and stow that in the fridge. The lack of a tap means an extra receptacle such as a jug will be needed in order to pour the oil back into the bottles which will also need washing. Both this fryer and my current one took approx 4 minutes to reach 160 degree celcius. In my case the tap issue is the deal breaker and therefore I shall stow the tefal in the attic. If you don't mind storing your fryer with its oil in the kitchen or perhaps will use it every day then I would go for this tefal as it is compact and really good looking and performing.

I tried this out with a traditional fish and chips meal, with one batch of fish (battered) being fried in the Tefal and another in traditional deep fryer on a gas hob. The Tefal takes 2.8l (max of 3l) of oil, it comes up to working temperature in about five minutes. You can set the temperature up to 190c by means of a rotary dial. The instructions are pictorial, and I found them difficult to follow, the pictures being small. When I fixed the chips, I followed the diagram and they indicated a temperature of 190 and 10 minutes. This I think was too hot, with the chips browning a little too quickly. The battered fish did very well in the time and temperature recommended and in my opinion tasted better than the one fried on the gas hob.In favour of this fryer is that it provides a nice controlled environment to fry. It is effective. Against is that it takes rather small quantities, but it does fry quickly, so the time lost is a lot less than you might think. It's very easy to clean (not dishwasher) just a wipe does the trick. You do have to be a little careful with the heating element as the wires connecting seem a little fragile. It is ideal for doing chicken pieces in batter, which cooked very quickly, just over six minutes.

The Tefal Semi Pro is a 3L deep fat fryer aimed at regular use. From everyday chips to samosas and spring rolls, you can have that chip shop or takeaway just cooked meal in minutes. This unit was easy to fill with upto 3L in total. It cooks over 1kg of food and is absolutely ideal for compact kitchens where space is premium. It has a cool wall and good grips on the base which is a great safety feature when one considers that there is hot oil present.Dishwasher safe is another good bonus. Residue from many foods including batter is swept away quickly. The unit has an adjustable temperature and good viewing slot which helps monitor the progress of the food, plus the power cord is long enough to reach most above surface sockets.A good tip here would be to choose your oil carefully. This will affect the overall cooking results. Look at the reputation, saturated fats and suitability for frying. You can often filter the oil when cool through a tea strainer back into a suitable container for storage. This is a compact unit. Good for average families and much safer than the old chip pan! It's popularity is clear on here already with the unit being close to out of stock. The brand is certainly one of the best out there.

For years our old fryers used to be the round, sealed type with a filter in the lid and as great as they were they were a faff to clean so last year we bought an air fryer for the convenience of no oil changes but I miss the deep fried stuff. This little fryer has bridged the gap for me.I'm cooking for four or five people most nights and this definitely wouldn't be big enough to cope with chips for us all on the nights we have them so the air fryer still sees to those but other than that this is a great little compact fryer. It heats up very quickly and although it doesn't hold much it's perfect for side accompaniments like breaded mushrooms, onion rings or fritters, etc for all 4/5 of us.The controls are easy enough to work out even if you've never had a fryer before and although the instructions give cooking times I just play it by ear to get things as we like them.My mum has something very similar to this but her lid is very loose and makes a mess every time with oil coating every surface but I'm happy to find that this one doesn't suffer from that problem. The lid fits fine and it all feels very secure in use.Being compact it's easy to store when not in use too so all in all I'm pleased with it.

Excellent for chipping. Capacity is more aimed at a two to four member household: you need something bigger if cooking for a large family. Great for fish, prawns and tempura. The oil heats up really quickly. Very logical to assemble out of the box but it could do with a bit more detail on the operating instructions. Having said that, once you get the hang of it the fryer is very easy to use.Safety is always an issue when hot fat is being used and this item is reassuruing to operate. The feet are stable and non slip. There are tight seals. We have an Actifry and now prefer this Tefal deep fat fryer. Ok the Actifry is 'healthy' but it is all so timed and mechanical. You feel you are producing food rather than cooking it.There is something satisfying about looking at the chips in the oil and deciding when they are just golden brown enough to suit your own taste. Also the Actifry is enormous and very difficult to store whereas this item is compact.Downsides? Whichever way you look at it, the Tefal uses oil and there is a smell: love it or hate it! As a new user to deep fat frying, it would be nice if Tefal could include a simple recipe book/brochure to get started.

This is my first electrical deep fat fryer. I have long thought about getting one but it isn't something I would use on a very frequent basis (for the sake of my arteries) so I have carried on using the old-fashioned pan rather than have to find space to keep another piece of kitchen kit. Having now tried this one out I wish I had bought one years ago - when you do want to deep fry this makes the whole process much simpler and less messy. This particular model has a small foot print and is suitable for a couple or small family. Its small size and rectangular shape means it doesn't take up much space either. The controls are simple to operate and the oil heats up quickly. The electric element is easily detached and the basket, lid and oil container (which slips into the outer casing) can all be put in the dishwasher so cleaning is a doddle. The steel outer casing is also easy to clean. There isn't much more to say: it is just handy to have one of these for when you want to make homemade doughnuts, beignets, onion bhajis or just home-prepared chips and onion rings without fuss or mess.

I could never quite see the point of these. Why not just heat up a pan of oil and use that?Well, I'm converted. This is so simple to use. Setting it up is essential just taking it out of the box and filling it with oil (quite a lot, it takes 3 litres). Then dial the temperature you want and wait a very few minutes whilst the oil heats. The impressively large element gets the oil ready extremely swiftly, (although there is no indicator light to tell you this). It is a "compact" fryer, and the capacity is pretty modest. As another reviewer comments, if only the element was set lower so the basket could drop in deeper, you'd significantly increase the capacity, which would be an advantage. The handle folds out,but you can't fold it in when it's full of oil, otherwise it would dunk in the oil, which makes it a little less easy to store. For cleaning it all comes apart very simply.A few very minor caveats, but overall a very useful bit of kit ( I've been cooking fantastic falafel in it!)
