It takes just 3 litres of oil so loses temperature quite quickly, especially with frozen chips, which I avoid, cos what's the point. If you want a proper chip, peel a spud! or buy the oven variety instead. All these domestic fryers are 3kw or less, so recovery time is not like a commercial fryer. Don't even bother with any fryer less than 3kw.Metalwork is thin & the oil receptacle is not stainless but does the job, basket has close woven mesh so is ideal for frites or allumettes . Everything but the element/control box is dishwasherable. My Tips.1. Use corn oil, not sunflower for a superior flavour.2. Underfill slightly with oil, you'll get less foaming & faster recovery.3. Use a good potato (I like baking)& wash the chips at least twice to remove all starch. Dry really thoroughly before frying (I bung em in the Aga which helps dry & raises the temp a bit)4. Underfill with chips & fry in batches.5. Fry for shorter times rather than letting the oil get too cold. 2, 3 or even 4 dunks for big chips is better than 1 or 2 long fry's.6. When it's cold, I empty & filter the oil into a 5 litre water bottle, then wash or wipe everything. It takes just minutes, you don't get any hard oil build-up & the oil lasts much much longer, especially if you don't fry often.

This is a good basic professional Deep fat Fryer from a known brand. It is of very simple construction. It is made from lightweight stainless sides and lid, which without the oil basket might appear flimsy, however it keeps the appliance light and manageable. Setting in the oil basket which is solid and well coated provides the rigidity to give confidence. The oil basket holds 3 Lr of oil and is deceptive in that regard as it appears small, but takes a good filling of whatever foods you want to put in.The thermostat works well and eats the oil very quickly. It pays to read the instructions as to how to load the basket and use the cooking temperatures suggested. Excellent chips and roasts.I would recommend doing roasties at 170c, then leaving to rest in the basket out of the oil ,heating the oil to 190c and returning to the oil for about 2 mins. Serve immediately for really crunchy roasts.Probably best of all is the simplicity with which this all comes apart for thorough cleaning. Be careful cleaning the connecting wires of the element. All in all a great fryer for the price. very pleased with fryer and results.

Read the reviews and thought I would take the risk. Was dubious one so cheap could be so good, but the reviews helped me change my mind, and Im glad I took that risk! Its predominatly used for chips, however as said previously its perfect for when i do want to fry fish as they will sit in there nicely.I love the 2 light system - one so you know its plugged in and the other to let you know when the oils hot enough.I also like the dial. Its better than those that rub off, and hides behind a nice screen to prevent getting grotty too.Warning tho...ensure you have around 3litres of oil at home if you are planning to use it straight away! And not olive oil either as that wasnt recommended due to its lower smoking temperature.Have cooked some fantastic chips with it too. It doesnt take long at all to warm up (a few mins max), cooks wonderful homemade chips in minutes, very pleased with it! :)

My first impression on unpacking this fryer was, "Oh Dear! Flimsy and cheap!". It was lightweight, had no frills or gadgets, was made of thin sheet and looked very plain.2 Weeks later and I can see the reasoning behind the simple pressed (stainless) steel construction and the lack of filters, windows, widgets and handles. THIS THING IS EASY TO USE AND CLEAN! If you like changing grease filters and scraping fogged-up viewing windows, then this fryer isn't for you. This is a fryer that can be dismantled in a few minutes and popped into the dishwasher (without the electrical bits of course). No grease traps, no fiddly plastic bits to scrub and the thing works brilliantly. For the money, this fryer beats competitors at twice its price and, even if it only lasts a year it'll have paid for itself in ease of maintenance.Well done Russell Hobbs. Simpler is better!!

God service by Argos - Machine was easy to assemble and holds a sufficient amount of oil to cook for a family. The Chips I part cooked on 160 deg. for 4 mins then let them drain for 10 mins then re-cooked at 170 for 4 mins. then let them drain and placed on kitchen paper to remove any excess oil - result . Perfect Golden chips ..fluffy potatoes and happy people. I am trying some deep fried camembert this weekend. The basket handle is a light but effective and your not going to get a strong heavy gauge one unless you buy industrial. I checked the temperature with a gauge and it was accurate. So this is perfect for frying for a family and there's just no point in paying anymore - I've researchedthe lot !

For years I made oven chips because I am terrified of chip pans, and fryers with lids on that block your view of the cooking process. My son talked me into getting a Russell Hobbs Professional Deep Fat Fryer. I was a bit weary the first time I used it, but wow! I can adjust the heat so the oil is hot, but not too hot when I put in the chips (that's the part I'm terrified of). I thought the handle was a but shaky but I had not put it in properly (yes, before I used it). It's great to be able to turn the temperature up and down when needed and, it doesn't take forever to heat up/cool down to the temperature you need. Brilliant product AND lots of proper chips now. Yum-yum.

I had to buy a new fryer after my last one died with uncooked chips in it and wanted to try something new, i read the previous reviews for this one and thought it sounds good. After checking the reviews on a few others this one stood out as the best.So i went for it and i am glad i did. It has a nice deep basket, and heats up quicker than the specified time for cooking in the instructions booklet, that includes a few batter recipes, it makes lovely homemade chips. It is easy to dismantle. It took just a couple of uses to get use to cooking with no lid on, but i am happy now as chip pan lids just end up getting greased up where this one stays clean all the time. :)

Our deep fat fryer had packed up so we needed a new one. My other half was happy to get the same one again but I fancied one of these narrow silver ones as I think they look very stylish plus our old one was covered in oil and it would drip out so badly onto the worktop I ended up having to buy a cheap tray to keep it on.Now this fryer looks gorgeous, is a very good make and looks very smart on the worktop, we've had it about 2 weeks now, used it most days and it hasn't leaked one bit and I love how the degrees is behind a little clear cover so it doesn't get rubbed away in 5 minutes like our old one.All in all we're thrilled with it, great buy.

Have always had plastic bowl fryers. The last one was quite good for cleaning, but was still limited - the reason I changed it as it was getting very sticky even with my good efforts.VERY pleased with this, the first "professional" deep fat fryer I have tried (whatever that means!) I am converted to this model - comes apart wonderfully for cleaning and is very good to use. Some might it find a little long for some cupboards, but the handle does fold in. I have yet to see how the stainless steel holds up for cleaning, but the bowl is enamel and cleans really well. Extremely pleased with it.

I love this Fryer - no fiddling with push buttons etc for my arthriticky fingers in trying to open the lid - just lift off. I like being able to see the food as I cook it and give it a good shake to ensure contents don't 'clag' together as they do in some deep fat fryers. The basket holds plenty of chips and would cook enough for a family easily (depending on appetites of course)Very easy to keep clean - as it all comes apart for cleaning, and the shape means it takes up less width on worktop. Not too heavy either.Had one of these before and was so happy to find it still available.

Easy to take the heating bit out, it it is easy to clean and filter the oil.The temp gauge is easy to use, it goes up in units of 20c , from 130c to 190c.The unit takes between 2.5l to 3l of oil.The manual had a recipe for deep fried mars bar, which made me laugh. The rectangle shape is handy for fish, although i have not tried that yet.I bought it mainly for chips, battered fish 2nd.Its a good product so far, a good brand, looks good and easy to clean. It is quite big, and takes up space in a cupboard beacuse of its size and shape.Happy so far. Tasty chips so far.

My second one of this Deep Fat Fryer. Went through a daft phase of buying only frozen oven chips, but the cardboard texture soon put an end to that. Back to the Deep Fat Fryer - resolved the fat issue by patting up any excess with a paper towel and I now have the delicious chips which had been just a memory once more. They cook beautifully in this great value fryer - lovely golden and crisp, enough for 2 decent sized portions. It is sturdier than it might seem at first, easy to use, and the lift out cooking interior makes life easier too in the cleaning department.

I bought this as a bit of a joke birthday present for my partner. He said he wanted one to make proper chips as he didn't like them in the oven but I said it wasn't healthy. We made roast potatoes in it the other night and they were lovely, there was no left over like there usually is. I am converted cos they were so much tastier than roasting them in the oven. Easy to use and quick to heat up and roast potatoes. Good size as Ive seen really big ones that take up alot of space before but this one sits nicely on worktop or in cupboard.

i love my new fryer!! having ploughed through a lot of reviews i decided to go for it! its very easy to use and does make good chips, i followed instructions and found the chips a bit hard, so changed it to 150 then 170 then 190 as they were cooking too quickly. the only problem i found was the nandle seems to detach even though i used the holes the prongs fit into....maybe i will suss that one out. so far so good. it has handles on the sides so you can move it back to its home aftter use. binned chip pan - no fires now!!

Never been a lover of these machines as I have had quite a few over the years and then thrown them out but decided to try again and I am glad I did, I researched long and hard before buying this machine, it is a great machine and does deliver nice crispy chips that are lovely and soft in the middle it will give you a guide on temps to deliver the best chips but I found I lowered the temp to less than the guide says, then used the highest setting for the final steps, do this and you will have fantastic chips.
