for a while I had the more stylish fryers that look like something industrial - open top/etc. Lots of smell and spatter/oil rancid more quickly. I only bought one like that because people told me that style was more professional and the other models available at the time had features I didn't liketo return to a proper closed lid/handle with no plastic bits to snap in a folding mechanism has been a massive relief. less smell and spatter/cooler sides/cleaner controls. I did read other reviews moaning about absence of a timer - mystery to me, as these things shouldn't be left unoccupied, and when I am in my kitchen my watch/phone/oven/kitchen clock all tell me the time - no need for added complexity on what it essentially a safe chip panIt says in instructions to not use dripping, but I do, with no problem. I have 90% dripping and 10% vegetable oil, in an attempt to recreate the original McDonald's fries flavourVery happy with productRead full review...

I bought this to replace an old deep fat fryer that gave up the ghost after years of service - for the price, this was an ideal replacement. Performance-wise, it does what it says on the tin - it fries. A good choice of temperatures allows you to fine-tune depending on what you are frying. The one disappointment is that there is nowhere to store the basket handle when not in use - on my old one, it neatly folded into the side, but this one is bulkier. It does detach though for easy cleaning.

This was easy shopping experience, ordered online for pick up in store paid at a quick pay very fast and easy. The item was as described online. The item is very easy to use a slider for temp control and an on-off switch the red light goes out its ready to use. the cooking time is very fast and you can cook a lot due to the good size basket this allows us to cook in one go for our family. the handles on the bottom make this easy to move around and the lid keeps the smells down to a minimum.

OK so, the Tefal MaxiFry FAMILY Fryer is just that. It cooks the perfect amount of food for our FAMILY, to perfection too. It doesn't take long to heat up, doesn't take long to cook, it certainly doesn't leak hot oil like our previous one did. It even looks nice. It is 100% TARDIS built. It doesn't take up much room in the kitchen with it being "small" but when you open it up, it is HUGE! I would definitely reccommend to anyone with a family size of about 5/6 people and/or lower :)

I have owned one of these before but it unfortunately started leaking at the seams perhaps due to overuse and wear and tear. Tefal have maintained the quality in most components except the frying basket the handle of which is a tad loose. Check it is secure before every use.Capacity wise the basket can hold the following at a time: 20 normal sized samosas/spring rolls, x2 Rainbow Trout (or similar sized fish) 1/2 kg chips, 1 whole baby chicken.Easy to clean.

This is a good deep fryer but the design is slightly flawed. The tray is quite shallow but it does fit a fair portion of chips in. The handle doesn't collapse down so your hand gets very close to the oil when you are putting the tray in. Also the old regal deep fryers used to have a filter in the lid, so when closing the lid to fry, the oil was cleaner when escaping. They no longer have filters in so the oil escaping it used and it leaves your kitchen smokey!

This is the first deep fat frier that I've owned. But due to my love of fried chicken (I'm from South London) and Brewdog publishing their recipe for Buffalo wings, I decided it was time to give one a go. Very easy to use, heats up quickly and has a lid to prevent spattering and smells. Temperature selection is easy with a slider for different food types. The only poor part of design for me was when trying to drain the oil out of the machine after cooking.

I had the previous model for over 12 years and then broke it (entirely my fault for putting on without any oil in it!), so simply replaced with this model and found it nowhere near as good. Yes it does the job but the previous model had an adjustable handle on the basked which made life a lot easier and safer and it fitted snugly away for storage. The basket doesn't sink as deeply into the oil and I find that about a 1/3 of the food doesn't cook properly.

We have used this only once but definitely recommend it.My hubby made home made onion bhajis and it was perfect capacity for 2 very large portions of chips! It's easy to clean aside from the fact the unit is fixed so you need to tip the whole unit to empty the oil.We preferred using it with the lid open as the steam was condensing on the viewing window then dropping back into the oil.For the price and it's effectiveness, we recommend it.

The fat fryer heats up quickly and retains heat well when the chips are put in so they only take a few minutes to cook. This is the family size fryer so poppadoms are easily catered for as well. Haven't tried it yet for deep frying other foods. Only downside is that the basket can't be raised/shaken once the lid is down so when you put the chips in you can't give them a shake to separate the chips. Otherwise, for the price it is good value.

Happy with this fryer it's big enough to feed a family of probably four although it works fine to cook for two which is what we use it for. Plenty of room for the chips to cook properly not all squashed in so don't end up mushy. Only downside was getting the temperature right to cook the chips, we had to put it to the lowest heat setting that it would go to or the chips would just cook too quick and would not be cooked properly inside.

As the title of the review said i'm happy enough with this deep fat fryer. It wasn't as big as i thought it might have been, only because the title said 'family', and with three strapping males in the household i had to cook two batches of chips as one batch wouldn't have been any where near enough to feed a family of four. That is also acknowledging the fact they weren't massive portions. But it's a decent enough fryer.

Quick heat up time, very large frying basket plenty of room for chips for a family of four ........ Or two greedy adults as stated in previous comments so ideal for us. Only used it four times so can't comment on cleaning but it looks easy to clean and outside wipe cleanable. Only negative comment is no cord storage but that seems to be the case on many fryers in this price range. Overall very pleased with this product.

I bought the Maxi Fry at first, but when I got it home I realised it wasn't going to be big enough. So I took it back got a refund and bought The Maxi Fry FAMILY. I'm really pleased with this one and it has basket with an excellent capacity for my families' appetite. It's clean and has a good size viewing window on the top. It also heats up quite quickly.I would recommend this fryer to anyone who needs a big fryer.
