This game seems to have very mixed reviews. I came to play it because I bought the chronicles (both games in 1) and played this straight after the original with simply just an interest in what it would be like. My expectations were non existent and ultimately I was pleasantly surprised. The game starts off in a good way and a bad way. Improved graphics, better designs menus and more atmospheric sound effects immediately stand out. The negatives are that the story starts off with Lloyd attacking parmacosta and killing innocent people. Seemed like a strange way to start the game off, especially when the character of Lloyd was the apitamy of kindness and innocence in the original. But as the game progresses, the vagueness of why Lloyd is doing what he's doing and the characters journey to hunt him down to find out, keeps the story engrossing. Another issue at the beginning of the game is that the battle system feels so much more sluggish and unresponsive than the original. A couple of the earlier battles just felt too hard as I kept dying and returning to a save point that was ages before the battle. However once you get past these two main issues the game actually becomes a great addition to the tales series. Sadly most of the voice actors are different, but in some of the cases I found the new actors to be even better (I liked the new Reagal and Raine). Character development is top notch and I particularly enjoy the constant banter between marta, Emil and Tenebrae. Tenebrae is such a fantastic character, it's impossible not to love his terrible jokes! Over the course of the game the battle system does get easier to master and the ability to run anywhere does add a and whole new dynamic to your battle choices. The creature companion element does a get a bit over complicated, but it's there if you want to bother with it. The ability to do quests in the game was also a great idea, but the rewards quite simply aren't worth the effort the majority of the time, so more for the completionist really. I'm sure this game went under the radar for many reasons and didn't quite please some fans for whatever reason, but personally I found this game to be best you could ever hope for in a sequel to one of the best tales games. If you're wandering about playing it, just do it and make sure you keep an open mind.

Ill start off with a big point. If you haven't played the original, Tales of Symphonia on Gamecube, you might not understand the complete storyline as it is a direct follow up set 2 years after the first events. There is a short explanation at the beginning of the game so if you haven't played the first game, you get what basically happened and where the world stands now. It has an immediate appeal to people who loved the first game as you want to know why Lloyd is apprently attacking towns and killing people for no reason, whereas he was the hero and main good guy in the original. On the note of Lloyd, this game has all of the original characters returning in some aspect in this game,as they join your party at certain times on your quest as you hunt down Lloyd to find out the truth. the main character you control this time is Emil, a timid boy, who becomes a Knight of Ratatosk to protect Marta who has the Core of Ratatosk emblazed in her head. The story being that you need to collect all of the Centurion Cores to restore the balance of monsters and mana in the world by reawaking all of the Centurions [monsters who control other monsters of the same element] and thus reawaking the leader of all monsters Ratatosk to restore normality to the world. Lloyd is apparently collecting the cores for his own personal use, whilst there is another group of people collecting the cores too. I dont want to give away the story so i will just highlight some points of mine:Good points:+Plays similarly so you can get straight into it easily if you know the last game or other Tales of games. Also easy to learn if your new because of in game help at the start of the game.+Exploring some original areas 2 years after the first game to see how they have changed.+Returning characters!+Good music.+Great battle system.+Collecting monsters [kind of like pokemon to be fair, you fight along side them in battles]Bad points:-The graphics have not improved at all since the original from 2003......-You cant walk around the world map nomore, just click on where you want to go and your there.-Some original characters do not have the same voice actors anymore. All in all its a great game which is just an enjoyment to play, well worth buying if your a fan of RPGs and only have a Wii.

After playing the prequeal to this on the gamecube i wanted more! I wasn't aware they had made another game till recently. I was then rather sceptically about it after reading good but slightly mixed reviews. But with the wii catalog pretty thin on decent RPGs, (hell most consoles don't have the greatest choice) i went and got a copy. I'm glad i did! It tided me over nicely till i could get my grubby hands on Zenoblade. Its a timeless JPRG with everything that makes them great, with a better battle system then final fantasy (its real time). There's just something classic and wonderfully nostalgic about this series and if your at all interested in RPG's you should pick it up.I think this game was sadly overlooked and with the wii in its death throws this is going to be a future classic.

I wouldnt expect less from namco, the point is to create a good game, it doesnt matter if its super 3d or simple 2d animation. The fact that it keeps u focused and maybe a bit addicted to it it's the true success. After all games are for Fun, and since they give u that kind of joy, they are successeful no matter what their gerne, system they are played on or graphic engine!!!True success
