We ordered this as soon as it was released as we were looking for something the whole family could use and would encourage us to get a bit of exercise even when its raining. We had a few minutes disappointment on first setting it up because we couldn't figure out how to get out of the stadium and the manual didn't give any suggestions (derr, you have to click the white arrow pointing right after doing a circuit of the track - easy when you know and if you listen to the verbal instructions from your "trainer" carefully). And because there were a lot of interruptions from the "trainer" during the first few minutes we were wondering if we would ever get going. But once outside the stadium and "free range" we were all absolutely hooked. In fact I'm only here writing this review as hubby is hogging Step to the Beat yet again. Between us and the kids (aged 9 and 11) we've now walked almost 200 virtual miles in front of the tv screen and are in danger of wearing a hole in the carpet. That's in about 3 weeks - the tv's hardly been on since the day it came in the post!!! We would recommend wearing light trainers and maybe walking on a mat to save the carpet and make a softer surface if playing for a reasonable chunk of time. Walking barefoot can be a bit hard on the soles of the feet as well as the flooring after a while. Or try walking on a mini exercise trampoline for variety - it works especially well for the faster tracks and adds variety (though pointing at items to unlock on screen can be a bit more of a challenge this way). We find the game works best for one player at a time, but 2 or - if you have a balance board 3 - can play together. The points earned by additional players go towards player one's scores though which can lead to arguments between kids about who is going to be player one. The only thing we'd improve is the music - having now opened over 100 of the 120 tracks available,we can only assume that many must be hits in the Japanese charts and most of those we've found in English are not what we'd call well known. Still the catchy Japanese song with the chorus of "Jack Russell Terrier, Terrier, Terrier" is one not to be missed for amusement value. There's another with lyrics fully in Japanese except, intriguingly, for the single word "raincoat" at the end of the second line - now what on earth can that be about??? Sing along if you have enough breath left - they come up karaoke style at the bottom of the screen in the relevant language - we've spotted what looks like Spanish as well on one track. Above all - enjoy this game it can only be good for your fitness levels!

I was one go away from selling this game on Marketplace but thanks to some tips from the Walk It Out (US name for this game) discussion board on Facebook, I not only get it, but love it!The basic idea of the game is that you walk around an island, timing your steps to coincide with the beats of the songs. Each step that you make in time takes your score up by one and you can use the points to build bits and pieces to add to the island, from trees and benches to bridges, cars and hotels etc. You can build a rainbow each day by collecting the 7 different coloured capsules that are dotted around the island. You can also unlock new routes and even star constellations! To unlock songs, you have to collect four capsules displaying the same song number. As you walk and collect more points ('chips') the items you have enough points for glow so you can click on them and they'll instantly appear. If you don't have enough points, then you can click on a non-glowing item and add it to the queue shown at the top of the screen. Once you've done the required number of steps you'll see that the item not only glows but pulses. If an item pulses then you can click on it to instantly build it and you won't get any points knocked off because you've already done the steps earlier. It's all this sort of stuff that had me confused and frustrated at the start. I couldn't understand why I wasn't unlocking songs and I didn't get why I was walking the indicated number of steps, only for nothing to happen. I also now realise how useful it is to be able to click on the character ('A' button) to make them do an about-turn and how you can use the camera to have a look around and click on capsules you've inadvertently just walked past. Now that I understand everything, I love this game and am so glad I didn't sell it! I can easily walk for over an hour without even realising how much time has flown by. It sounds weird, but it's quite satisfying to create a rainbow or build a hotel!I started off trying to play using the Wii balance board, but I didn't have any joy. You are only supposed raise your heels up and down rather than walk properly and I couldn't get my Wii-mote to click on anything unless I also used the Nunchuck, which somewhat negated the point of the balance board, I thought. Also, don't expect to hear 120 well-known songs. There are just a handful, with the rest being made up of (quite catchy) songs sung in English by Japanese folk.

I pre-ordered this game after checking out the reviews on Amazon.com for the American version of this game called Walk it Out. As my job involves sitting down all day I really wanted to do something that was fun but didn't really feel like I was exercising. The game basically involves walking round a place called Rhythm Island. As you step in time to the beat of the music you collect 'chips' which you can spend on capsules which help to build up your island. You can build bridges, houses, get trees and cars, etc, as well as collecting Rainbow spheres. Collect all 7 of these in your session and a rainbow appears over the island. You can unlock new songs by collecting 'CD's',and by collecting all the 'Magical Clock' pieces you can change the time on the Island. There are so many items to unlock I can't see myself ever finishing this game! The game is totally addictive! In the four days that I've had it I've already walked nearly 60,000 steps. I find myself wanting to play it all the time! You can play using your Dance Dance Revolution mat, Wii balance board or the Wii remote and nunchuck. There are many more detailed reviews for this game on amazon.com-they also contain lots of hints and tips about how to get different items on the island. It's helped me enormously as I get used to the game. It's a great game for the kids if you want them to get more exercise. However the adults will be hooked too-I am!

It's offical, I am now a Goddess. Ok.. perhaps not quite but I am well on my way to being fit and trim all thanks to this suprisingly entertaining game. I am not good at exercise. It's a chore that I do reluctantly and usually find excuses to avoid. As a result I am a little heavier than I want to be and unfit. Step to the Beat is changing that steadily. It's not that it is massively addictive, just compelling enough for me to view my daily hour tromping around the island as something to enjoy. I don't cringe at the thought and that is a major step forward. My main concern before spending my cash was whether the walking style would suit me.I had my doubts about walking in place; essentially just lifting and placing my heels while my toes stay in one spot. It's turned out to be a lot easier than I thought and this on the balance board. I imagine it would be pretty much the same on the mat or using the controller. One thing however, I find that after an hour my toes are going numb. Easily solved by having a break if you intend to walk for longer than that.It takes a bit of getting used to clicking on the event capsules while you walk; the pointer has a habit of veering wildly over the screen as you jog along, but in a way, that is half the fun and you do get more skilled at it.So all in all, an excellent game that works well. Now.. when is there going to be an expansion?

My copy arrived with the instruction booklet in German. I had to google it to find out how to play and so I think I circumvented any of the issues that other reviewers had. I'm also confused about the comments about the music. I knew most of the songs- Madonna, pussycat dolls, the songs vary in tempo so you don't plod along, you do actually dance along- wether you swing your hips or march or twerk it tones different muscles in your legs. It registers as 'perfect' more often if you swing your arms so it does a good job of toning your arms too.I was looking for a step aerobics game similar to the one on wii fit/plus and was a little dissapointed when I couldn't use the step up for the balance board with this game but I've had it less than a week and I've walked /danced more than 40 miles. It's very addictive My first priority was unlocking the routes and collecting the music before I started building the island but you collect so many points whilst doing that it builds up anyway. I love it so much that I'm going to purchase a dance mat to see if that will make the moves that you can do more versatile. It says not to pick your feet up-only move your heels but although it registers as not perfect -you can still pick your feet up in the slightly slower marchier songs.

When one is trying to lose weight and get fit, it helps to have a few different exercise routines?I started off with Wii Fit and enjoyed learning the different games and improving my scores. Then I discovered 'Step to the Beat' and I have become addicted! You hardly notice how long you have been walking, as you try to to earn points to open a bridge, or plant trees along a road etc. My favourite activity is to collect all the rainbow spheres! My night sky is still quite dark...I have not yet managed to collect enough stars to put the constellations up there.Something to look forward to?I would have awarded this game 5 stars, but I feel that I would have liked an easier way to interact with the map of the island? Also, it would have been helpful if a copy of that map could have been supplied in the game instructions.I found it frustrating trying to find my way from one part of the island to another area, as I could not see the whole picture, but had to scroll up and down and across.....I hope they bring out another game like this; maybe 'Walk the World' or something like that, where you can go to different world cities...walk around sightseeing and earn points to buy souvenirs, perhaps?:)

I hesitated in purchasing Step to the Beat it didn't sound like it was going to be that much fun (It's just walking), but with winter fast approaching which means not much going outdoors I took the plunge and I Haven't looked back since. Brilliant game addictive and fun. At first I was worried when I was confronted with the annoying American trainers voices and set up which got on my nerves, but I got into the game from the first Step and was Hooked, I haven't been off it since. Musics great and up beat and the island you build while you walk is lovely, I wish the real world was so perfect. The only fault I can find is that I keep playing it for long on the Wii Balance Board and my toes go numb LOL.My son who also finds the game addictive plays it on the dance mat which he prefers since you can use all the buttons on the mat and make up your own dance moves as you walk. Great Game!

Really pleased with this game, used daily by my partner and just a great fun way to get exercise in without that repetitive / boring aspect of some daily workouts.Graphics are nicely done and there is plenty to build / collect. The options allow you to hit every other beat, turn off penalties etc so it has a really broad appeal for all ages and fitness levels.Shows you how many calories burnt according to your age/weight/height as well as how many steps , distance travelled per session etc.Definately a winner in our house.Music is good mixture of original artists and good quality covers of a nice variety of genres.Highly enjoyable and recommended.

Navigating my way out of the stadium took a while, but I think it was just me getting used to the Wii controller after not playing for ages.I like the way I know how far I have walked and how many calories I have burned. The music is good and I like the feedback on the screen so I know when I am keeping in step. The next day I knew I had exercised the muscles in my legs, so it must be doing something!I'm a bit dyspraxic so I find trying to click on things and walk at the same time a bit difficult, but I think in time I will get better at this. It's just a bit of fun and another way to ease my way back into a bit of exercise.

This is a good game and it can be addictive, and it is currently hard to get a hold of, and because of this unscrupulous people are charging 2-3 times the price. Disgusting, wait till it comes back into the shops and get it for £29.00!! Scandalous price at £75.00, seller should be ashamed!!Reviewed again in November 2013 obviously this is not the original seller and this price is well worth the asking price of £29.00!! Still love my game!! and I had to buy it from Germany in the end but well worth it!

28.7.2013

This game is absolutely brilliant.I've had it for over a month now and use it nearly every day It is such good fun that you don't realise that you are doing exercise.I would recommend it for anyone wants to get fit but doesn't like going to the gym or jogging It doesn't matter what age you are because you can choose the music to suit your ability.

13.8.2016

Love this - I'm on my third tour of the island, and have also bought for a friend. It really encourages exercise with so many elements of interest.I think it's time Konami came up with an alternative stepping ground now. If it was up to this standard, I would definitely buy.

12.3.2013

OK, so it wasn't cheap, but given some of the prices I've seen this at, it was good value and I've wanted it for ages. I am really pleased with it, and in fact am itching to get back to it as soon as I finish this review. Thanks. Love it! use it every day! :-)

This is the best way to meet your step requirement for the day. You just Step to the Beat! You walk, you trot, you jog, you sweat if you really apply yourself. And it's fun and addicting. Best Wii game ever!

9.10.2010

Became completely obsessed by this. It helped me to lose weight. Am desperately looking for a follow-on as I've completed everything and built the entire island in 72 hours!
