Yes, you are paying for the luxury Danish design which doesn't always mean good quality, however, as far as I'm concerned the quality levels are pretty high here, and that's coming from a very picky person. I haven't had any problems with it so far after 3 years of good use. I also have the additional warmer stand which works really well when you want some hot tea throughout the day.I suggest that you apply a layer of food-safe oil (IKEA have this) to the lid and handle of the teapot, as it is likely to get wet, which WILL quickly ruin and stain the wood, just re-apply every few years. An additional recommendation to the oil would be to wipe it down with a damp cloth every so often,
