I've owned one of these for a while now and it's an absolute joy to use! I bought it when I first became more interested in cooking and as a result of using it I've turned into an even more enthusiastic cook. The cast iron distributes heat very evenly and the little spikes ('picots') on the underside of the lid truly ensure that all the steam produced drips back down on whatever you're cooking, preserving all the taste. Washing up is easy, and (but that's my personal opinion) I think they look great as well. Judging from other reviews most people tend to use these to make stews, ragouts and the like, and it's true they are absolutely brilliant for that kind of cooking, but I use them just as well to prepare vegetables, cook potatoes, just about anything really. Is Staub better than Le Creuset? Well, I have several of the latter as well and find it hard to choose between them, in a way it's like comparing BMW and Mercedes-Benz: both are quality brands which - except perhaps on rare occasions - will never let you down so at a certain point the choice is really up to personal (i.e. subjective) preference. You can't really go wrong with either of the two according to me.Staub is indeed expensive, but if taken proper care of they will last a lifetime.

I own two Staub cocottes in this size (though of a different color) and absolutely adore them. The cast iron distributes heat evenly, the spikes ('picots') on the underside of the lid work terrifically, and you can cook just about anything in them. I like to prepare stews and the like in the oven so to me personally it is also a great advantage that you can put them in the oven for a couple of hours and need not worry: your food will come out tasting great. They look great as well I think so I always use them to present food in as well.If it's anything to go by: I prepared a lamb stew recently in one of these for a company of 6 adults thinking I had used sufficient ingredients for at least 8,only to find that I was soon scraping the bottom of the cocotte to help one of my guests to his third helping...Granted, Staub is expensive, but worth every penny!

Got this 28cm in grey, it's a great looking well finished piece. Heavy and feels of highest quality. Easy to clean inside and out. Got for £141 and feels like a bargain for a lifetime piece like this. Made braised chicken and a roast beef so far. Both turned out incredible.NOTE this thing is pretty tall and the only way I could get it to fit in my neff double (main large) oven was to lower the oven wire rack onto the oven floor. Works but definitely won't be fitting anything else in there with it. So be aware of this if you've a double oven. Other than that, very happy! Will also be buying the shallower version if/when it comes back on sale as it'll be versatile and lower in height.

Having put off the purchase of a new cast iron casserole dish for a year or so, I finally took the plunge and bought the Staub cocotte. The quality feels excellent. The colour is more muted than the picture, but that is more to my taste. The main pot is easy to clean, just the edges of the lid are proving a bit more difficult, but not something to cause complaint. I've used it a couple of times now, from cottage pie filling to slow roasted beef cheeks. I had been sceptical about the claim of retaining moisture, but based on the evidence so far, I'm becoming a believer. If the pot serves me for a lifetime, I'll consider the purchase price good value.

As ever you pay for what you get and Staub cast iron cookware consistently exceeds expectations in terms of aesthetics, functionality and results. This casserole is big enough to accommodate dinner for 12! Bear in mind the sheer size and weight of this beast when ordering. We were lucky enough to pick up a returned Amazon Warehouse deal for 50% off the retail price so over the moon with the purchase. We already had a sizeable collection of Le Creuset and Staub but lean toward Staub for design features and aesthetics. The self-basting dimpled lids really work.

Few year ago, I bought my 1st 18cm staub in Amazon, I find it very good for keep warm, I use it to cook Asian style rice are excellent! Taste even better then rice cooker! 18cm is too small to cook other things, so this time I buy 22cm. The product was good package when I received. Good price! I had 2 Le Creust too but I find staub seems better in keep warm, not leaking when u boil soup, easy keep nice colour inside coz my Le Creust are not cream colour any more!

It took me a while to decide between Le Creuset and Staub cast iron pot, and I am glad I've chosen Staub. It looks great but most importantly, it makes the most ordinary dish taste million times better. I make stews, soup - anything, really. The size is large enough to feed a big crowd of people, it's definitely too large for two people - but I tend to freeze freshly cooked meals.

Bought mine as a slight second, still a very nice item.Casting is excellent as is finish. Interior is black easy to clean and doesn't stain like some other brands. The steamer insert works well and lets you steam veg at end of casserole cooking as long as not more than 1/2 full as will bubble into you veg.Given the price of le creuset for this size of pan I would buy again.

I have several Le creuset pots and then I have bought 20 cm of staub for a change and I liked it very much and then my husband bought this for my birthday present and I have tried it and I like it so much, I like the design, Staub is super!and the compact of the pot is excellent, it is presentable on the eating table. the color is charming as well,

Best cast iron cocotte there is. Clever little drops built in the lid that ensure steam gets back in the dish instead of dripping at the seam (like Le Creuset's). Well built, great colours, thick cast iron, great look on the hob or the table! It isn't cheap, but this is the best out there - no question in my view.

The STAUB Cast Iron Round Cocotte, 28 cm, Black looks great, but - more importantly - does its job. It will outlast me, that's for sure, but in the meantime I will get a lot of pleasure from using it.You can pay lots more for it in some places, but you don't have to.

This pot is fantastic!!! One of my best purchases for the kitchen. Like a finally crafted car makes you feel like a Formula 1 driver, the Staub makes me feel like a better cook than I probably am. Every dish I've turned out has been spot on. Must have for any kitchen.

You need to be careful handling and cleaning this cocotte but food is consistently excellent, especially bread, soups and stews. Cocotte came in good condition without any defects and has been in use ever since. It also looks gorgeous.

Waited long time to buy this pot. Grey is.a.lovely colour. Not as.heavey as i expected, and bottom is a bit slippery when trying to stiring cooking on hob。Not nice for cooking rice, good for stew. 22cm is a perfect size for my family.

This is the best, end of.The way it fits together, how it seals, the material, the look, the shape of the lid, etc... it’s the best.Buy it and pass it onto your grandkids when the time comes.
