Before Disney acquired the Star Wars franchise, there was the fascinating Expanded Universe of media outside of the main move saga (which has since been renamed to "Star Wars Legends"). Lethal Alliance fits nicely into the canon of other former EU games, such as Dark Forces or X-Wing, set just a few months before Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and tackling some of the same topics that those games have. We play as Rianna Saren, a charming Twi'lek mercenary, and her lovable floating security droid Z-58-0 (or "Zeeo"). The two are employed by Kyle Katarn to aid the Rebellion in the fight against the Galactic Empire. What starts as a fairly simple job eventually turns into a grand interplanetary mission with a personal vendetta to boot. The story of the game is nothing extraordinary, featuring plenty of Star Wars cliches and archetypes (which may also be a plus for you if you're a big fan of the series), but it is interesting enough to keep you going, the voice acting is great and the protagonists are extremely likeable... and, honestly, the victory dance that they do together every now and then after defeating all enemies in an area is absolutely adorable. You will also get to see cameos of some well-known characters from the original trilogy. The graphics are pretty good for a PSP title from 2006; while the textures and models have aged quite a bit, the animations - especially of Rianna's acrobatics and melee attacks - still look fantastically fluid. The plot of the game will take you across iconic locations like Coruscant, Alderaan, Mustafar, and the First Death Star as well as the less known planets (that may be familiar to aficionados of the Expanded Universe) like Despayre and Danuta. Each of these has its own unique environments. Lethal Alliance's soundtrack is nice - a pleasant mix of scores from the movies with some original themes. All of the above should already be enough to make this at least worth a try, but what really makes it so enjoyable is its multifaceted gameplay. Perhaps the best way to describe it would be as an action adventure video game; third person shooting, melee combat and platforming are at the core of the experience, with light stealth elements (disguises, ledge kills and backstabs), first person turret sequences, basic environmental puzzles, exciting on-rails space combat, and more to keep the player engaged at all times. It is this variety that really keeps you playing, which makes a few parts of it all the more disappointing when the game throws too many enemies at you and becomes dull at times. For the most part though, it is a delightful game thanks to the ways it presents Rianna and Zeeo's teamwork (be it through platforming, combos, shielding yourself from enemy fire, hacking terminals, short sections where you take control of the droid, and so on) that really highlight the importance of their relationship through its mechanics. So, why not five stars? The fact that Lethal Alliance doesn't invent anything new - the platforming resembles Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia, whereas the lock-on shooting is a standard for such games on the PSP - isn't really a problem. It incorporates generally good aspects from various genres and blends them together in a way that makes it greater than the sum of its parts, even if it doesn't truly excel at any of them, turning it into a jack of all trades. Still, this may be a problem for some and if you're not a fan of Star Wars then you may be keener to notice the lack of innovation or depth. Moreover, the game suffers from the same limitations that many other PSP titles have: long loading times, slightly awkward controls, delays before cutscenes or audio playback, etc. It seems to be free of any serious bugs, but at one point the game did freeze my whole system, forcing me to reset it, though this could actually be a problem with the hardware. Last but not least, it is overall quite short at around 7 hours for a complete playthrough.Nevertheless, for me Lethal Alliance is one of those underrated gems and I, for one, am really sad that the awesome duo of Rianna and Zeeo never received a sequel. If you're a fan of Star Wars and own a PSP, then this - alongside Battlefront: Renegade Squadron - is definitely one of those games that you need to play. If not, then you may still enjoy it as a diverse action game.

The early reviews that I read on the Internet for this this game weren't that favourable but this is one of those games you should ignore the press reviews and just go ahead and buy it.As the review title indicates Rianna the female character of the game moves like Vanessa (PN03 on the Gamecube) and kicks **** like Lara. Rianna is very acrobatic and I think that's what really gives this game a one up on Star Wars Battlefront. Oh no lightsaber I hear some cry. Well Rianna doesn't have a lightsaber but she does have a klingon style sword that is even more devastating in melee combat.Rianna's acrobatics are similar to Lara's so if you're a Tomb Raider fan you're going to love this game. This is just as well since as with Lara, Rianna does sometimes miss her next jump.As a valuable addition Rianna's sidekick the droid Zeeo really adds to the fun when taking on multiple enemies. The different combinations you can use between the 2 main characters when in close combat really add that 'je ne sais quoi' that makes a game. Some press/internet reviews said the targeting wasn't that good. Well I wonder what game they were playing because I didn't have any problems at all. It's very easy to switch from target to target using the shoulder buttons. The graphics aren't that bad either, ok they're not up to Syphon Filter standards but compared to other PSP titles they're just fine.Another great thing about this game is the Star Wars factor, since it gives you yet another dimension to the Star Wars universe. But I must say even if this wasn't a Star Wars based game it would still be just as good. This is a must have game. Enough said.

What a fantastic game! I asked for it thinking that it was a LEGO Star wars game. I am so pleased it isn't! This is fast, feisty and fun! One of my first games for my PSP and i am pleased that it is. It is increasingly addictive, it is the right amount of difficulty and it has very realistic graphics. The kicking, punching and special moves are fast and furious.ONE DOWNSIDE IS that loading time is slow and if you die/ fall etc. during a mission you have to go through a process of slow loading.OVERALL this is a game that is suitable for most age groups and it is impossible not to be liked!I ADVISE YOU TO BUY THIS WHATEVER GAMES YOU LIKE PLAYING MOST!

I really enjoyed the game. I really liked the moves because you get a droid which you get to fly with. I really liked the weapons because you get a purple light-sabre. At first its easy but the further on you get, the harder it gets.
