Having just bought a Wii at Christmas, I wanted something more than Mario Kart and Ghost Squad (two excellent games, highly recommended, but I digress) for my 5 year old son to play. He couldn't really get to grips with any of the Wii Sports minigames, and the Wii Play minigames left both him and me cold. Spotting this title in ASDA for £18, I took a punt and bought it (unusually for me, as I usually reserach al my games before I buy them), hoping one or two of the games would be interesting for him.Generally, the 10 games are half-decent, not earth shattering, and the graphics could be better. The sound is terrible, especially the music, and the games use the concept of teams for each of the sports. It would have been nice to be able to use a Mii instead of going through loads of selection screens to start each game. But at less than £2 per game, it works out at decent value, especially if you are just starting off your Wii games collection, and want some cheap, mildly enjoyable games. The games are a bit on the easy side, so younger players are likely to get more out of the title. The games (listed in the order that my son rates them) are:Figure Skating: My sons favourite game (which was a surprise). Uses the nunchuck to follow a set routine, and the Wiimote to perform tricks at set points. Personally I found it a bit boring after a while, but son loves the jumping and falling over bits (I guess that's 5 year old humour for you).Motocross : Half decent game, graphics not as good as the motocross-like tracks from Mario Kart, but enjoyable nevertheless. My 5 year old coped easily. 3 different tracks, but all very similar.Snowboarding : 3 different tracks, but all play very similar. Again, 5 year old enjoyed it, but we are looking forward to getting Shaun Whites snowboarding as a more complete game.Football : Simple footie game where the nunchuck controls player direction, and flick the Wiimote to kick. Pale imitation of 'proper' footie games, and a bit slow, but the 5 year old really enjoys it (with me controlling the nuchuck and him kicking with the Wiimote).Curling : Surprisingly addictive little game - I enjoyed it, as did the 5 year old. Plays similarly to the bowling in Wii Sports, but I enjoyed this more.Badminton : Plays similar to Wii tennis, but the controls are more forgiving, so 5 year old coped better. Graphics are not as good, but you get some satisfaction from the odd jumping smash accompanied by a decent 'thwack' sound (one of the few decent sound effects in the game).Beach Volleyball : 2 v 2 volleyball using the Wiimote to spike/block etc. Mildly enjoyable, and 5 year old enjoyed it too - he managed the controls for this, which surprised me.Archery : Simplistic archery game where the Wiimote is used to aim arrows then fire. Enjoyable for a few plays, but soon got bored of it.Karting : Half decent karting game, but 5 year old played it once and (not surprisingly) said Mario Kart was better.Basketball : Not impressed with this one really, played it once, and haven't returned to it.So, for younger gamers, this title provides some good value enjoyment, but hardcore gamers probably won't get a lot out of it. The 4 star rating is based upon being good value - if I had bought this at £30 or more, the rating would have been lower.

SPORTS ISLAND features ten Wii mini-games with sporty themes, including Basketball, Football, Curling and Badminton. The controls are pretty universal across the whole spectrum of games on offer here, so driving a kart is similar to riding a motorbike, control-wise, and this added simplicity does the game justice. All games have three skill levels and, although varied, are not as exciting as those offered on Wii SPORTS RESORT. The graphics and sound are good though, and some mini-games are more addictive than others, with the whole package being good value for money. You cannot use your Mii characters however, rather you select predetermined characters from various teams, and the game keeps no progress scores like Wii SPORTS, which is a bit of a let-down - in most games you either win or lose, with no indication of your personal best score, or how much you have progressed (or not!) in skill.SPORTS ISLAND will definitely pass a few good hours though, and at this price is a worthy investment.

OKay, I will admit this isn't Wii Sports 2 but Sports Island seems good enough to hold us over until Sports 2 arrives - if and when it does. I got this for my husband for Father's Day and we've spent a good portion of the day playing it and having lots of fun. The snowboarding, motorcyling and go carts are very similar but they are fast and it is great fun to race each other in these games. The Archery is good as is the ice skating....really all the games are enjoyable. They are short and fairly simple but you can adjust each game to beginner, normal or advanced levels. We haven't had any problems with the controls being slow and the animation, while simple, is really clear and colorful. Our 4 year old is getting there with the controls and this is the type of game for casual players who just want to have some fun and some laughs - and one that the whole family can enjoy.

I found this when i was looking for upcoming games for the wii and i decided to see if it was worth buying. to my surprise it has all of the sports that i love such as ice skating! (i don't know how they will show that on the wii) this seems to me like a sequel to the official wii sports game that comes with the wii. I can't wait until it comes out! get it if you loved the wii sports.

This game is a change from Wii Sports and all in all has enough variety to make it a worthy challenger.I enjoyed the footy, simple but fun, and all the events work well. The single player League system is good. Select your team and play in each event decathalon style.Quality all in all...and my 5 year old boy also enjoys it to boot!

Me and hubby spent many hours playing this game and loved it. I think this is one of the best wii games available. It's a classic and I don't hesitate to recommend. Many games on here that leave you very entertained.

I bought this game as I am new to the Wii and particularly for the Badminton component.I think it is a very good depiction of the game as part of a compilation. Many of the other games are very well put together also!

I can only rate this game by reports that my grandson was delighted to receive it. He lives away from me and I have not seen the game being played.
