G'day all!I have to say that this is probably the single nicest phone I have ever held in my hand! Without a case it just feels so slimline and smooth, it's just glorious to hold! (and to look at!)The phone works great, the waterproofing is high quality and I've not had any issues with it. Having used it pool side and in the bath quite regularly. The screen is beautiful, colours are great, probably not quite as good as your samoled displays, but for one of very few alternatives to Samsung made screens, it's quite good and a BIG step up for Sony. It didn't leave me wanting to rush back to my S4 or go get a Note 3 for example. That, and the build quality far surpasses anything Sammy can throw at you. They keep their build as cheap as possible for maximum profits. Seems Sony are willing to go the harder yards here and it really pays off!My only issue with this device is that, the minute you add any case, even an ultra thin silicon case, it feels too bulky. The Sony leather flip case that comes with it is a nice touch, and it's great to get a phone with a case, I think all top model phones should come as well equipped. However, it just seems to almost instantly become a tablet with a case (in my opinion).I'd love to use it without a case forever, but with glass back and front, its definitely gonna slip my grip at some stage and a case would be nice.Next point is the camera, an 8MP shooter, no flash of any sort. A lot of people complain about this... but in all honesty, for a quick point and shoot, it's not bad at all! The superior auto mode mostly does a good job (though sometimes I get better pics in manual mode). For the purposes of a phone, though, I think the camera is sufficient. Not great, but definitely sufficient. I didn't find myself annoyed with it, even in low light. Sure, it takes grainy noisey low light photos, but it's still better than my phone from 2 years prior. Sure, a flash next time would be nice, but I'm satisfied without one for now. =) (besides, you can purchase external flashes for your phone now, that sync up with a camera app, so if you are really fussed then that is an option).Anyway, regardless as to my love for the phone, I have an iPad mini retina that I use for work and play, and carrying it around as well as a 6.4" phone just got a bit too much. Particularly when the phone is 2/3rds the size of the iPad! lol! The reason for the iPad is the logitech ultrathin keyboard case, for fast data entry when required. If Sony came out with a similar option for the Xperia Ultra, (and yes, most of the keys would fit within the space of the phone!) then I would not have the iPad and the Ultra would be my main beast. For now, the Ultra is shelved and my Xperia Z1 is my phone, whilst my tablet is for everything else.I'd love a phablet with a nice magnetically attached mini keyboard case, that would be my ideal device! I'm sure that accessory companies would have made one for the Z Ultra too, if it had metallic edges to attach to.All in all, a GREAT device! But just make sure you're prepared for the size of this beastie! :P

I'm a big fan of large phones/ phablets so this thing fits the bill just fine. I've had a few problems with it in the first couple of weeks of owning it, however these have mostly been fixed by firmware updates. (I'm still not sure about the optimized backlight problem where turning the feature off leads to continuous rebooting; I've just left it on to be safe).Pros:Amazing 1080p 6.4 inch screen with great viewing angles and colour reproduction.Best built phone I have ever owned (last one was Galaxy Note 2).Battery life is pretty good. (It ran out a bit too quickly when I first got it but after a few charges it's lasting me about a day now).Super fast and smooth because of the new CPU and GPU.Feels nice and light in the hand because of the 'omni-balance'design (or something like that :P).I really like Sony's take on Android compared to Touchwiz in the Samsung I had before.Included Bluetooth headset is really good. Although the earphones went quite in one side the actual detachable bluetooth part is fine.Cons:Camera is lacking a little. I can forgive it though because it's obviously not designed to be a camera phone (and the rest of the phone is awesome).A few glitches and niggles, I think the firmware needs fine tuning. (looking forward to 4.4 kitkat).Sharp corners can be uncomfortable when holding for a long time.Overall because of the differences in UI and build quality;going back to the Note 2 feels like playing with a toy, whereas the Sony feels like a premium gadget.*I'd like to say one last thing that got my last comment removed. I bought the white Xperia Z Ultra about 2 weeks ago for £570. The black one is now £460 and falling all the time. I am clearly but-hurt about this and wanted to vent my rage and left a one-star review. That wasn't reflective of the actual phone and so I was wrong to do it. I am annoyed it got removed though because it was my opinion (free speech and all that) and, in a way, Amazon has cheated the overall score back to 5 stars.*So because of Amazon's disappointing reaction to my previous review and the price problem, I'm going to give a 5 star phone 4 stars.ALSO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WAIT FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS BEFORE YOU BUY IT! That way you'll save yourself a nice amount of money.

Had this for over a year, has to be the best device around, even 2 years after it's release.Pro'sDisplay: Excellent, has very good viewing angles, made of glass, makes it even more premium.Design/Looks: Looks the best even when switched off, just can't stop looking at itSize: It's not as gigantic as some people have commented, yes it is large but it makes great for gaming, watching movies, browsing the internet, doing your work (using microsoft word, excel, powerpoint) using as a dedicated sat nav, you will get used to the size, for me now it doesn't look big at all;Feel/Grip: This is so wonderful to grip, it feels premium as it feels so solid in the hands,I prefer to hold mine when going out as I just love the feel and grip.Call quality: Very good, have no problems, very clear indeed;Audio/speakers: Yet again have no problems, good when gaming, watching movies, listening to music, remember it's a phone not a hi-fi system or a car audio player;S800 chipset: Very powerful cpu and gpu, no need to upgrade from this phone for a long time to come, I did a benchmark test which came up as 43017, which is still very good for a device which was released 2 years ago;Camera: Seems fine to me, yes there is no flash but it's not a big drawback to me, maybe to others it will be but we all have our own opinions;Battery life: Doesn't last long unless you use Stamina Mode, which helps it to last at least a day on charge. Personally I have no problem charging it twice a day as I am a heavy user.Con'sWaterproof: I've placed this under con's as the experience I have had to date hasn't been good. Twice when i've washed it water has slightly leaked inside and that's with the flap firmly closed. I have read so many reviews on forums and other sites about water damage to this phone and other sony devices, just google it and you'll realise how not so waterproof these devcies are. My advice is please don't take it anywhere near water, best to be safe than sorry. If you have any questions please get in touch, I am happy to answer any question you may have.

Before I start my actual review, I need to mention that this is my first smartphone. I've been refusing to buy one for many years now, as I had no need of it. Contrary to that I've been using ASUS Android tablets for 2 years now. Before buying the xperia, I was looking for a device to replace my Asus TF300 Tablet and it was then that I stumbled upon the Z ultra. The xperia Z ultra is for me both a tablet and a phone replacement. It works amazingly in both worlds. The size of the device is perfect. I can use for long hours without getting tired, it is very light and feels really good and firm in my grip. The screen is really good. I expected to be worse after having read a number of negative reviews on it related to its viewing angles, but its quality is excellent in my eyes.I never thought that an android device can be so performant. Perhaps this is not the best comparison ever, but chrome on this device is faster than Chrome on my i7 macbook pro. This tells quite alot. Switching apps is seamless and for the 3 days that I am using this phone now, I never had a glitch. Battery performance although quite bad for a phone I'd say, it's still better than all tablets that I have played with.I had read lots of complaints about the camera. Personally I didn't care much for it. All I need to do with the rear camera, is the occasional scan or use the front camera for call conference. And they both work fine. If you plan to use the phone as a camera phone, look somewhere else cause you will really be disappointed.Being waterproof is really a strong feature of the phone. I've used in the bath and out in the rain with no problems, nor glitches in the touch interface which surprised me.I highly recommend this device and I also recommend buying the dk30 charger-dockstation and the sbh52 handset along with it. They both complement this device very nicely.

This is the first review about any product and is purely because I feel this phone deserves one.I suppose if your reading this the first thing you want to know about is the size. well yes it is rather big and alot of the time you need two hands but i find it fits in my jeans pocket fine, if it was any bigger then it would be a problem but even sitting down and driving my car it didnt feel a nuisance.Ive had this phone for a couple of weeks now and been using it heavily. First is the battery life which ive managed to get a full days use out of with plenty to spare. If people manage to drain this battery within a day they need to find something better to do with there lives.the screen is amazing to look at I find myself just flicking through things just for the sake of using it, its very responsive. As for the processor, christ this thing is fast, nothing slows it down. i came from a Samsung Galaxy S2 and i thought that was quick but this thing just brings everything up in an instant. What i have noticed is the wifi and the mobile data are alot quicker. whether this is to do with the tech or google chrome im not too sure because i never used chrome on my S2. Ive heard people moan about there not being a flash on the camera with it being such a high end phone but to be honest it doesnt bother me one jot, because ive got better things to do with my time than take pictures of everything and load them on a stupid website. The one thing i miss is a home button. it just seems slightly more hassle to wrap your hand around and press the side button. i also have a gel case on mine and you have got to press hard sometimes to get it to touch the button but thats more the case's fault than the phones. All in all if you buy this phone you wont regret it as long as you get an idea of the size. It truly is a great phone.Well Done Sony!

It is gorgeous, only Sony knows how to make something like this, before Apple glossy products came along, Sony was already there, I had not brought a Sony product since the Sony UX micro PC back in 2008, and boy had they got their mojo back, new CEO, handsome guy he is. If not for this purchase busting my pockets, I would have also brought the Sony Vaio Tap 11.It is solidly well made, very clean, minimal design and very thin like chocolate McVities equally delicious. The size, I'm very sure you are thinking about buying this because of its sheer monster size, and you want to carry one less item in your bag. The size of the screen is the perfect sweet spot, not too unwieldy, watching videos,it doesn't feel small, compared to my previous phone the Galaxy note. The brightness isn't as good as a OLED screen but I reckon the colour are more natural, great for reading.Performance is excellent, it is simply very slick to use, the MHL HDMI output work well. The speaker is loud, it is oddly louder when place on a flat surface. The pencil input thing is a bit gimmicky, if you haven't fallen for Galaxy note pen, will not feel short changed.Comes with a free bluetooth headset, so you don't have to look like you're using a Dom Joly phone.Bad points, the bloody 8MP camera is really bloody awful, why not have Z1 camera? Where's the bloody flash? It doesn't even do as well as the 2 year old galaxy note, minus 1 star that's for sure. A LED flash is great of taking table length photo in dim settings, it is not asking to much... Awful, that's twice awful.

I haven't written any review since months but I really think this phone deserves one!Coming from a Samsung galaxy note 2 (which I thought was the perfect phone) or been pleasantly surprised on numerous points. It really looks miles better than the Samsung, from the look of the phone itself to the way its OS has been tweaked by Sony, everything looks more "mature". Unlike Samsung with its "everything's round & fluorescent" android versions, the Sony really looks like a better piece of kit. It's packed with very smart Sony apps, I love the "throw" which helps you stream your phone content onto your other devices, wether it is via Bluetooth or DNLA, in the blink of an eye!!! The smart connect is also really cool, and so is the stamina, they all help you configure what your phone should be running depending on what you're actually doing, what time it is, wether your phone is plugged in or not etc... it couldn't be easier. A truly smart phone!! Love the screen, yes it is big but that's why you want it, after a couple of days you won't even notice is sheer size. All in all a great buy, at this price I don't think there is any other big phone that's better. In fact I don't think any better big phone, whatever the price!!!!

Great device! Bought an Amazon warehouse version just to test and it's pretty much replaced my tablets. It's very fast and smooth (2.5ghz I believe) and just looks gorgeous. It's big and very flat so handling it is awkward, its more of a tablet than a phone, something you take with you to the sofa or on the plane to entertain your self. The screen is fine, I have an LG G3 with the UHD screen so looking at the HD option on the Sony Z Ultra is a bit dull, but its not bad, its just not "wow".Battery life is good, I game on this thing a lot and when I play a game like Blitz Brigade which also requires wifi connectivity I can game continuously for about 3 hours before I get the battery warning and the screen dims down.Other activities like watching movies, youtube videos and browsing take battery quickly too, around the 3 hour mark, but I have my phone on power save mode which saves the battery a little.Speakers are lame but they work, not very loud but since I use this indoors I don't require loud sound, if I do I just connect to my bluetooth speakers.Overall this is an entertainment device, I only pick it up to consume media and game. I wouldn't get it as a daily driver but hey, to each its own.

Bought this brilliant phone/tablet via Amazon.de (Germany) including delivery to UK worked out at around £226.00 a month ago. This is a large phone but also is a compact tablet at the same time, I have a Sony Bluetooth SBH 52 headset paired to this all the time so making calls from this large device is not a problem. The Z Ultra provides a dual role of phone and tablet, in a slim premium feeling body made of some metal alloy sandwiched front and back with glass. At 6.54 inches the screen this is also compact tablet perfect for watching movies on the go and makes web browsing a pleasant experience. The screen is also very sensitive where input to the screen can also be made with a pencil or certain metallic body pens making written note taking possible. The phone is a very capable device with high end specs, good battery life and is also waterproof. I highly recommend those who commute or travel with a phone and tablet but is looking to replace both in to a single device, then look no further than the Z ultra.

Apple killer as far as I am concerned. Got this beauty for 1/2 its original price and boy was it worth itSpecially now iphone 6 is playing catch up with bigger screen too little too late for meIts big but fits in my shirt pocket for most of the day. Most of my calls are via car bluetooth but not too big to use as a hand setBluetooth function is fantastic. I have paired this with various devices and as long as only one device is powered on it pairs without having to go into settings to switch devices as i did with my iphoneProcessor is almost twice as fast as my old iphone 4 making browsing on 3 g a pleasure rather than a painMy daughter also has a iphone and has said since ios update her phonehas slowed down so it seems apple are providing their own nails for their coffinEasy to transfer contacts just make sure you synch iphone with outlook then save to file which can be read by gmailPlenty of help on youtubeI find this phone suits my needs and looks the part in my opinion

Sony Experia Z Ultra is even better then Z2 Ultra. Bigger screen. and the CPU equally fast. amazing. would not be able to do my normal tasks on a day to day basis. It is your personal computer. I expanded RAM with 64 GB sd card. and I have read that some pople have expanded it even with 128 GB. And even more I have read that the limitation is a few terabytes so in the future you could transform it into a real super computer.CPU amazingly fast.it comes with 2 GB of RAM but thanks to RamExpander app you can add virtual memory to that (has o be rooted which takes 1 minute to do)one of the other advantages of having tis phone is that it comes with Andorid 4.2 installed so it means that other then in the Android KitKat- here in the Android 4.2 you can read and write from/to sd card.It is different in Z2 where it is blocked by 4.4 kitkat system. 5000000000 stars

Probably a bit premature with a 5 star rating but this is a seriously great piece of kit.Its big no doubt about it and nobody really needs one but if we only bought what we needed it would, nt be much fun.Sim free but settings for your network are downloaded by the phone,,, no searching for apns,, etc as you do with chinese phones.Tried everything l can think of too try and everything works as it should, even the camera,, l was not expecting much from the camera after reading reviews but its actually not that bad.One point to bare in mind is fitting the micro sim is a touch tricky, needlessly so really, google it for a demo and you will be ok.I have no doubt that this is a phone that if purchased will be sure to please, and the seller was very quick on delivery.

I should have checked the dimensions as I thought this was a normal phone size - it's not. Massive is an understatement, iPhone 6 plus's look microscopic in the Ultras shadow.I would have sent it back if I didn't need the phone right away but I'm glad I stuck with it. It just fits in the pocket and the large screen makes it a pleasure to use apps and browse the web. I often get comments and have fun pretending to be Dom Jolly (HELLO!? I'M IN THE LIBRARY...) but using a normal phone feels strange and fiddly now.Once you go Ultra you never go back :PPros - The battery lasts for ever and the size makes it better to use than a normal phone. Pretty bullet proof and has faired well will some big drops.Cons - The camera is crap, and doesn't even have a flash.

Well, the phone is a killer, win the Olympic gold, for every category, except camera flash. IF taking low-light pictures is all you do on your phone, then skip this device, otherwise it has everything you'd every want plus much much more. If having bigger pockets is more important to you then skip this, because a phone of this premium should be kept in a satchel or similar, as it's an expensive build and not some cheap iphone or plastic device. I can now never go back to those 4 or 5" phones. I use the bluetooth headset to take and make calls and it lasts 2 days on its own. Superfast processor.PROS: does everything it says on the tinCONS: no flash, but no big deal for me,as I use a granular setting to capture low-light pics and it works a charm!

I own this phone for two weeks now. Absolutely beautiful and fast. There is no lag whatsoever. All apps are smooth, no crashes and no lags. The UI is also good. Camera is average and sound is mediocre on speakers but other than these two minor niggles, all other specs are great and pleasure to use.The size is big and after a few days of use, you wont even notice that it is a big phone. One gets used to it. The movies and pictures on this size screen look stunning. I suggest buying a good protection case to make sure it does not receive scratches and marks etc.Big phones are the way to go. In few years time, they will be common and widely used. Good job that Sony is on the case.
