After owning the brilliant Z3 Compact and the initially briiliant then highly questionable Z5 Compact I made a decision to get the new Sony Xperia X Series.I will try keep things basic with this review. The Xperia X is better than the Z5 series in every way. I am yet to encounter an overheating issue which was my biggest gripe with the Z5 Compact, the X does get lukewarm at best unlike my Z5 which got literally too hot to hold and shut itself down on a regular occasion and had top be hard reset. The X is a great multitasking phone, I have had Facebook, Instagram, Google Maps, Whatsapp and more all connected and running in the background without the X warming up at all, this is also with my Sony Smart watch 3 connected at all times. The X has never become sluggish or slow to open/close apps.Screen - Absolutely beautiful, you cannot see any individual pixels and I have tried looking up close! The screen is full HD as you'd expect from a high end phone and curves at the sides which unfortunately contributes to a little and rare annoyance with it. Because the screen is curved I have so far been unable to get a tempered glass screen protector that fits the X properly. I also tried the more flimsy film types with the same result, the protectors I have used do not curve round the screen which is a pain but be aware that the phone screen is gorilla glass itself which isn't mentioned in any review but confirmed on Sony's website. Gorilla glass is scratch resistant which is tougher than your standard phone screen. I'm sure there will be suitable tempered glass alternatives due in the very near future.Battery - Up to 2 days indeed however with most phones that have heavy use such as Social Media, YouTube and messaging I was able to get just short of 2 days. I got up at 9am on the Saturday with the phone fully charged and with everything on and connected the battery hit 1% at 4pm on the Sunday and finally gave in just before 5pm. Be aware that this was not using stamina mode! Exceptional for a phone with these specs.Fingerprint scanner - Exceptoional, seems more accurate than my previous Z5 Compact and is near instant to use. I would say it's more accurate than my partners iPhone 6 which we compared.Software - I have owned a few Sony phones since switching from Apple and bloat ware was a common issue with Android. I'm pleased to say that Sony has really toned it down with there "issued" apps. There are only a few such as Xperia Lounge, PlayStation and Play Memories but you can delete them all if you have no use for them. I would recommend keeping Xperia Lounge as you get free movies and themes for being with Xperia. The user interface is very Android and simple to use, I can't imagine anyone having trouble with it.Price - I got mine 2nd hand (still had the plastic wrap on) for 320, I have seen in the high street you'd be paying 550 from Carphone Warehouse and around 400 from Amazon. Obviously 400 is the more reasonable price and with the build quality of the X you are getting a good product for your money.Camera - A good upgrade, the quick launch and face tracking actually work! 23 megapixel front camera is vibrant and very sharp and the 13 megapixel front camera is a big improvement. That should be it so I hope this review helps, I have listed pros and cons below;Pros;Excellent screenGreat battery lifePremium feelIssues from Z5 series rectifiedGreat multitaskerCons;Screen protectors do not fit (yet)Volume rocker still oddly placed too low on the deviceNo waterproofing :(No headphones includedNo wireless charging...Still...

So much it does well and seems to have many premium features but some midrange ones to. I have done a comparison to the Huawei P9 Lite which is a strong competitor if you need a top quality sound if you don't then the P9 lite is probably better value.-Good phone call quality and reasonably good speakerphone but needs to be louder as do the ringtones. (P9 Lite is better) I would give Sony 8 and Huawei 9.5- Very good screen quality (better than P9 Lite) and fits to one hand easily. The fingerprint sensor could be better (P9 lite has better placement and is more responsive) I would give Sony 8.5 and Huawei 8.5- Good camera with better performance than midrange phones. Better than P9 Lite but not by much.Huawei 7 and Sony 8.- Good Battery performance but not as good as P9 lite. Sony 8 and Huawei 9- Brilliant and I mean brilliant sound system. USB on the go pushes the boundries further. A clear victory for Sony here. Sony rates 9.5 and Huawei slips to 6.5. The Sony sound is remarkeable and backed up by a glitch free performance earns its stars here.- Premium feel, plenty of curves and nicely put together. Again a victory for Sony it earns 9 here and the Huawei 8- 2 year warranty backed with good customer service and in general, very fast updates. Already on Android Nougat. The warranty is longer on Huawei but the updates much much slower I am also unsure of the repair procedure. Huawei 7.5 Sony 9- Spec is somewhat midrange but runs well possibly as there is not much tampering by Sony. Sony wins as its faster another good 8.5 score. Huawei pushes it though and earns its 8- Runs Cool, Has a fast charge again not class leading but useful all the same. So Sony's is not the fastest but there is tech to make the battery last longer its smaller than the P9 Lite though. Sony gains fast charge but Huawei battery lasts longer its a tie on this 8 points eachOverall Sony scores 76.5 Huawei 72 out of 90. Mainly due to the superior MusicCONS- Value - Not as cheap as P9 Lite which is this phones biggest threat. Expensive at £499, £399 should have been the launch price. At £299 this is very good value and if you want a top notch hi res player it is a bargain, if this doesn't interest you then the Huawei P9 Lite is nearly as good and £100 cheaper.Trouble is prices change as the P9 Lite has been £129 on PAYG with a free unlock and the Sony a £299 then looks expensive unless you want it for music.

Up to the usual high standards you expect from Sony. This is a superbly designed smartphone with metal case and curved-edge screen - similar to the iPhone 6/7 and Samsung S7. It's larger than the former though and fits well in the hand while still having a bright, clear 5-inch screen. The product photos are a little confusing though because that strange lock-screen is actually just a glimpse of the sideways motion the unlocking swipe takes, and the colourful paintbrush swirls are the wallpaper underneath (easily changed). The instructions say charge for 30-mins before first use, so I did. And if it's like mine then proceeds to update itself, all the way up to Android 7 Nougat. In use the phone is responsive and handles everything thrown at it.I've read reviews of the heat generated by the latest Sony's but have to say I haven't noticed it. That big initial upgrading - which overall took quite a while - didn't make the phone any warmer than any other I've had. In fact I'd say it became only slightly warm. Certainly nothing out of the ordinary. So far I'm down to 50% after that original charge 5 days ago, so there's no battery problem either. True I don't sit glued to it all day like a teenager and turn it off at night. From previous experience of other phones I'm quite happy. The box is Sony's new style - less flat and more boxy. You get the phone, a USB cable and adaptive fast charger (UCH10) and a couple of leaflets. That's all. So no earphones. The SIM is a Nano-sized one and it fits in a single pull out tray alongside a memory card if you choose to use one.On Sony's web-site you'll find a full PDF manual and the "Xperia Companion" desktop software for both Windows and macOS if you'd like to use that. For Windows users only there's the "Media Go" music and video player available too. An alternative to the like of iTunes etc. None of this is needed though. All in all the phone doesn't disappoint. I've owned Sony phones before and they just keep getting better. I've owned iPhones too but keep coming back to Sony.A good buy from a quality brand.

Now at the 100 pound mark second hand you get a lot for your money. A decent midrange chipset is a lot better than budget offerings you can get new.The camera is good (not great), looks great on phone and still OK blown up to 50 inches on TV. Focus soft in low light but image bright and natural looking, fine for small prints or Instagram. In good light you can probably go up to A4. Not quite LG g5/galaxy s7 quality, slower to focus, bit more processed. The screen is superb, very bright. Full HD is enough and a major selling point as 2k/4k eats batteries. Battery life then is reasonably good. Not what I'd call long battery life but will usually make a day with about 4 hours of screen on time. Some apps like typing this review hardly drain it at all. More processor hungry apps drain it faster. For the size of battery which is on the small side Sony has done well with optimisation. You get oreo which runs fluently. It feels nice in the hand and well made. Speakers OK. Bit lacking in bass but stereo sound from front is nice. For 100 it really makes you wonder if it's worth spending 700 plus on a new phone. There's not much this can't do and do well.Read full review...

Wow what a phone its a quality well built device and one of the best phones I've used and I've had a few, using the phone is smooth no lag at all OS seems to been very well optimised by Sony, camera is great and is more than capable of taking some cracking shots. We all moan about price I paid under £400 and for me its very good value if you look at how the phone is built, looks and performs.I've looked at all the low reviews on the various review sites out their in the www and I have no Idea how they can come up with scores of 2 and 3 stars out of 5 this phone is a 4 all day long, far better phone experience that with the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge,Nexus 5x.Anyone who gives a low review of this phone clearly does not own it.ProBuild qualityScreen bright and hi resNo lagFront facing speakers and headphone socket on the top of the phone where it should beCrystal Clear earphone/mic when taking phone callsFantastic audio quality through Sony MDR-EX110LP Deep Bass EarphonesCamera and dedicated camera buttonCon'sNo Earphones included

PROS: Fast smooth browsingBright pin sharp screenLoud call volumeNicely balanced, not heavyNot much bloatwareStill being supported (will get the latest android version)CONS: Awkward to hold without a case; definitely needs a caseNothing really new or interesting with the latest version of androidSlight distortion on calls, not too bad though, clear enoughDid overheat because of the never ending updates on first boot up, but seems to be okay now.I bought this as an upgrade from my old Sony SP and I wanted something familiar, so for a Sony user wishing to upgrade this is probably the best one. If you are not a particular fan of Sony I think there are other phones of better value, but for me screen quality and call quality are a priority and this is why I chose the Sony X after much research.

In general phone feels great in hand, performance wise feels snappy without any noticeable lag so far. From the front the screen isn't ground breaking but for the price very nice. Speakers sounds nice and are loud enough. Paying isn't as awkward as I thought to be. (NFC in the front) Selfie camera is great but it is so wide that if you don't look out where you at in the shoot you will end up looking like Stewie.Rear camera takes decent shoots and video looks buttery smooth. But the nearly unnoticeable bump around it could bother someone. Finger print is lighting fast, volume rocker is low when holding phone in one hand portrait oriented but that does not bother me much, dedicated camera button is super handy.Overall happy with the purchase.

I have noticed recently that some products on Amazon seem to have an abundance of 5 star reviews and just as many crap ones. Making me think that people are not playing the review game properly. So, just so you know, I DID buy this. I own it. I love it. I finally took the plunge and upgraded my not-so-mart windows nokia to something with a bit more brain. It is very nice. Holding it is a bit different since it is larger, but I am sure I will get over that. The battery life so far is very good. Obviously remember to turn things off, like wifi, when you're not using it. That is a good first way to cut down on battery drain. The system performs great. I can even do VR stuff on it in HD. Not bad.I highly recommend this.

Bought as a replacement for my Sony Xperia Z1. Very good battery life of 5 to 7 days. (I use it for phoning and text & the check the weather. Blue tooth & Wifi on all the time). Charges quickly. Wonderful clear screen. Not overly large like some others but not to small either. Very quick responding to everything. The finger print scanner works almost every time. (Not with muddy or wet hands though). Shame many of the useless apps can not be installed, but that is the same with all mobiles. Overall, very pleased.

Gorgeous phone. Graphics are fantastic, the camera is unbelievable (you can get good depth of field and bokeh even from the auto setting!). Good battery life too. It was bought for my mother but both myself and partner agree we will upgrade to this phone when ours are finished. I played with the XZ in a shop to see what the difference is and I can't tell. Not sure why the XZ exists when this is so good at two hundred pounds cheaper.

Not had a Sony Xperia before, only had it a week but I am loving it does everything I want it to, can't really rate the camera yet as I have only used it a couple of times but everything looks good really good clear pictures, l love the dedicated camera button on the side, to sum up I am very pleased I choose the Sony after reading all the reviews I think I choose the right phone for me.

Coming from IOS i have been getting used to this android phone, and it is going very well. The battery has been fine, i have been charging it approx once a day though i have also been using it quite a lot.I have stated it isnt compact as it seems much bigger than the iPhone 4s and im still getting used to hold it, it does fit inside my pocket fine though.

The phone seems to be working perfectly fine so far other than the charger supplied is a bit hard to charge the phone with as it needs to be on a certain position, a new cable should solve this though. The seller also left a packet of sweets in the parcel... It was a very good touch and made me laugh Thanks again, callum

Bought as a replacement after breaking my previous phone. Had a week so far and it's brilliant! Paid full price last time for this phone, and this time round the price above, wish I'd have known before. Great value for money! And makes you feel alot better knowing it's 12 month warranted as well.

Love the phone. Great display, I cannot see the individual pixels and I like the curved edges, didn't think I would. Fingerprint tech works really well, can input up to 5 fingerprints and it's really useful for things like PayPal and banking as well as easily unlocking the phone
