Bought this tv to replace a well loved Samsung UE43H6400 which was universally rated as one of the best tvs of its time. Unfortunately the Samsung only lived for 3 years so I decided to go back to my favourite brand, Sony, in the hope of better longevity. We will see long how it lasts! The Sony had a lot to live up to but overall I am quite impressed. The picture quality and sharpness is first rate, but black levels are not quite up there compared with the Samsung (the Samsung had a VA panel, the Sony only has an IPS panel), but not too bad. Functionality is great with Android, much better than I expected, easy to use an set up. A bit slow at times but then you are trying to negotiate android with a pretty basic processor, its fine in my opinion. Sound is much better than I expected, better than the Samsung. Don't expect a lot of bass though! The tv itself looks good - if you don't mind the rather basic looking metal feet. Difficult to hide cables completely though. Some of the rear sockets are a bit oddly placed and if you have one of those old thick aerial cables it will probably show at the side, replacing with a thinner cable will enable you to tuck it out of sight. Build quality does look better than the Samsung overall.I'm pleased with my purchase overall, but I'm glad I did my research first rather than base my choice on Amazon's 5 Star ratings - I noticed an awful lot of these came from Vine customers, so of course they are going to write a good review! Do they really get a free £500 tv just for reviewing it?PS. If you can find the KD43XG80 model, buy it. Sony have confirmed to me that it is Exactly the same as the KD43XG81 except for the design of the feet, but around £40 cheaper. So if the feet aren't important or you are going to wall mount, go for the cheaper one. Unfortunately I didn't find this out until it was too late.Update: over 2 months since purchase and I am STILL waiting for the Android 8 update over the air. This is not good enough - Sony make a point of advertising this set as having Android Oreo. The response from Sony Support is to manually update the software with a USB stick, but I am not prepared to risk bricking a new tv when Sony should be updating automatically. Android 7 can be glitchy and sometimes freezes up the tv requiring a reboot - this happens about once a week! Get it sorted Sony, it is spoiling an otherwise very nice tv.Update 2: The over-the-air Android 8 update arrived on 21.2.2020. So far, fingers crossed, it seems to be working well, smooth and responsive. I was getting to the end of my tether with Android 7 as it seemed to freeze the tv every time I switched out of an app back to normal tv, requiring a reboot almost every day. If Android 8 continues to work well I can recommend this tv, picture is fine and it is well featured. Not everything is perfect, eg, you cannot record when Youview is enabled, and Alexa is limited (mine won't change channels using Alexa) but it has a fairly good range of apps and the build quality looks decent.

Very pleased with the XG81. Picture is excellent, the HDR capability really makes the picture vivid and lifelike. I had my mind set on the OLED version. But I find the blacks and darks images look great, so I’m pleased I didn’t spend the extra £1300. Generally I don’t watch a film worrying about if an image could be blacker. But if if you have that sort of cash kicking about then go for it.The screen looses its punch a little when viewed from the side, I.e greater than 60deg from centre. Not an issue if you watch more or less dead on.I went from a 37” LCD TV, viewed at about 3m away, to this 65”. It was overwhelming big at first but you get used to it very quickly.Very pleased I went for a 65” rather than the 55”.The speakers on the tv are good, however I generally don’t use them as the tv is linked with a surround sound system. Fine for tv viewing I would say, I.e news, game shows. Viewing anything cinematic then I would recommend getting a surround sound system - it will complete the home cinema experience.Read full review...

Packed with features this TV is the latest addition from Sony.In principle, there's heaps of boxes it checks. Though mastering them all is another matter. The price point is EXCELLENT. I believe this is due to complications some are reporting in their feedback, in terms of connectivity issues and sound output from third party hardware. The UHD picture quality is phenomenal. At this discount, it's a smart move to consider it if you want to be one of the select few to watch UHD picture quality in the comfort of your own home, occasionally inviting friends around to gawp at the picture quality.Just be prepared to connect to an external speaker system as flat screens are notorious for poor sound output, due to the the depth of the screen these days. In any case, Amazon support is excellent if you run into any issues.

Excellent UHD TV which forms part of the Sony TV 2019 range. The current price is outstanding with the current discount. Picture quality, with UHD, is outstanding and it is good on HD as well. The TV has a number of smart features/apps which work well and the Sony interface has improved over the years. As this is a mid-range model the quality is amazing. A full five stars for this excellent product.

Firstly, DON'T try and fit the feet directly onto the tv! Look in the box for 2 black metal brackets - fit the feet to these and then slide the bracket into the slots on the bottom of the tv, simples!Thought someone on here ought to let you in on this, it will save you at least 10 minutes trying to fathom out how the feet fit, it did for us!

Got this for my 80 year old parents and they are well impressed with the picture quality and features. Although I did need to plug in a sound bar for them. After showing them the basics after setup they are now streaming there favourite shows and even on Netflix. So it must be easy to use. Even got £75 off on one of eBays 20% off offers.
