Opening the box on the Sony AG8 was for me like being a kid on Christmas morning again. I have dreamed of owning an OLED TV and here it was! The unboxing didn’t disappoint. The TV is sleek and simple in its design, which results in a feel of quality and class. It doesn’t in any way feel over designed or over complicated in any of the aesthetic features. The screen is almost edge to edge, with only a 3mm frame around the outside. The design of the stand is sleek and minimalistic and has a feature to place the TV with a gap underneath for people who have a sound bar that they want to place under the screen, or close to the stand where there isn’t a sound bar. We haven’t got a sound bar so opted for the lower setting.Nothing about the design detracts away from the screen itself, which is absolutely how it should be. Setting the TV up was simple and easy to follow using the onscreen instructions. It’s useful to know that you will need login details for the various TV services you subscribe to, as its good to get these all set up at the initial phase. It took me around 10 mins to install everything and get watching. The Android operating system is user friendly and easy to navigate. There is logical functionality in terms of moving around the different apps, and getting back to the home page. It felt like there had been lots of thought given to the number of clicks to get to any given area of the menu, making it quick and fluid to use. Obviously I couldn’t wait to get a glimpse of the OLED 4K HDR content so I could really get a sense of the picture quality in comparison to my existing Sony LED TV. I chose an episode of Our Planet on Netflix to showcase the full capabilities of the screen. First impressions did not disappoint. The picture quality is absolutely stunning. More so than I was even expecting, and you’re talking to someone who has spent many an hour in electrical retailers stood in front of OLED TV’s lusting after having one myself. And this was better! The vividness of the colours, the depth of the blacks and the overall crispness of the picture is jaw dropping. The children even commented that they felt they could reach into the screen and touch the jungle. There is a depth to the picture that is almost disconcerting. How it is achieved is beyond me. People may ask why you would spend extra on a TV when a TV is just a TV. I would suggest they need to sit and watch a programme like this and they will have their answer. I went on to watch football in HD, which again didn’t disappoint. The screen coped really well with the level of pace and movement via the live feed and there wasn’t any noticeable ghosting that you sometimes get with sport on other TV screens. In terms of the sound quality, I’m glad I don’t have a sound bar because I feel I really got a sense of how the sound feels coming from the screen rather than via conventional speaker outlets. This is a unique feature of this TV and something I was excited to witness. The sound doesn’t come from any one place, it just projects into the room, resulting in an immersive and engaging sound experience. I am sometimes disappointed by the sound quality on TV’s, which pushes the use of a sound bar. However in this case, I feel the sound is crisp and clear, with sufficient base. Speech sound is good, music sounds well balanced and the sound quality in films offers good depth and cinematic drama (without losing sound quality when turned up high). One aspect I have been slightly disappointed by is the remote control. It doesn’t have the feel of being advanced in terms of its technical design and capability (to match the TV), and its a busy and dated aesthetic. It is pretty conventional when I feel it could be more minimalistic with maybe offer some touch functionality to allow for multiple use of each button. Some of the regular use buttons are at the bottom of the remote and are very small which makes use of them more tricky. For instance, the play/pause/rewind/fast forward buttons should be further up the remote and they need to be bigger. One of the other things i have found really frustrating is using the fast forward and rewind buttons. The picture jumps forward and back either too slow or suddenly so fast that you can’t ever stop the programme exactly where you want to. This has been a frustration for the entire family. I do however like the voice functionality of the remote. It works well to search for programmes in the main menu which can then navigate you to the relevant apps. We haven’t found any issues with interpretation of speech, which is often an issue with voice activated functionality. Overall, I am blown away by this TV and have continued to be impressed by the picture and sound quality, and ease of use of the menu. If you are thinking about buying this TV I would say you won’t have any regrets, so bite the bullet and go for it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

We went and looked at many TVs Samsung's look great lots of vivid bright colours etc, but got to the Sony OLED section and was blown away, this was the TV for me, 65" is somewhat big for my lounge but after a few days it's become normal no eye strain etcThe picture quality is immense, 4k native films look deep with blacks and bright enough whitesDolby vision I'm not too keen on the setting it defaults to when content is detected it goes a mild yellowish colour but still looks crazy My main problem with the TV is watching virgin/sky etc if the content is SD it's horrible on a screen this big as all it does it stretch an already poor quality pictureNormal blu Ray's look good very very good infact almost hard to tell between 4k and 1080p motion on transformers etc awesome no screen tare or shadows behind objects I find the installed Netflix does have some motion issues but that's the content NOT the TV itself as I played the same content on the Sony x700 4k blu ray and it was perfectHighly recommend a sound bar, the TVs screen acoustic tech is great but lacks any form of bass which to be immersed in a film is very much neededDo measure the soundbar first though as the TVs height isnt great but is adjustable via the stand turn ing it around lowers it and vice versaOver all if you want a TV that will blow your mind and love every detail of 4k films then most definitely buy this TVHDR content seems duller than Samsung's QLED offering but can be tweaked to be brighter ...slightly Yet to try my xbox one x on it as I TRY to play competitively and input lag will be an issue on FPS games but things like racing games where it's less important itll look like a masterpiece in native 4k Brilliant TV not worth paying the 800 odd more for the A9 as you get the same package basically albeit a faster processor

I bought the AG8 55 online after doing research without being able to see a set in a store due to Covid-19. My wife was furious when she saw the size of the packaging on delivery. A few hours later, when she had calmed down I set it up. The set up process was ridiculously easy, it synced perfectly to my Google account and had my Google Play Music, YouTube etc all linked and ready to go. For the first programme, we watched one of the HD channels wildlife programmes. The entire family were open mouthed at the quality. It was a massive improvement over our old 720p Samsung HD TV. We could see every whisker on the Tigers, every drop of water in the waterfalls.I have always been suspicious that the TV quality wouldn't be good when you plug it in at home but... Wow.... Amazing. Netflix shows are all fantastic. We watched one film set in a jail and you could see the chipped paint on the cell doors going down the hall. It was remarkable. The sound has been well above what we expected too. We don't have a sound bar and I don't think we need one. We've watched concert films and it's like being in the audience. My wife loves it. A month on since buying and we are still delighted with the purchase. Films are an experience. We look forward to the evening and putting something on TV. Some films look worse now, e.g. The Departed, in which the sets look quite wooden, but the counter balance is you can see the actors expressions so much better. If anything, we wish we had bought the 65 inch. It's that good. Highly recommended.

Upgrading from a smaller 2015 Sony 4K tv. The difference is massive. OLED technology gives you super rich colours as well as pitch blacks which is perfect for darker scenes especially when your watching at night, no annoying backlight which makes blacks look like greys. Acoustic Surface audio makes the audio more direct towards to viewers and sounds a lot better than normal speakers under the TV. Google Assistant is very handy for looking up a quick youtube video or even changing the heating through hive without having to get off the sofa! Having all the catup apps like BBC Iplayer and ITV Hub as well as spotify saves you having to get a entertainment or chromecast box and when I am gaming on xbox, the input lag is unnoticeable compared to LG and Samsung TV's. Also the TV knows if there is a logo or static image on screen so it can refresh pixels every so often to prevent OLED burn in which used to be quite common but is becoming extinct. Only disadvantages I have found is the TV comes on android 7 and i had to manually update through a usb to android 8 through sony support because it said there was no update in the settings menu. Changing inputs does take a little longer than other tvs. Would be nice to have HDMI 2.1 rather than 2.0B to futureproof the tv a little longer.Overall a really great TV and i would highly reccomend to anyone looking for a new TV

I bought the 55-AG8 OLED TV on the basis of reviews that praised its picture quality and I haven't been disappointed as the images in HD are exceptionally clear and in UHD are simply stunning. Moreover the quality of the sound from the TV is also the best I have ever heard over 65 years of TV watching. The onscreen help information isn't too good so one has to experiment wit e TV itself, and one hurdle I encountered was that during the set-up process after first turning on the TV, I was invited to set up 'YouView' which isn't something I had heard of and I made a mistake of selecting 'Yes'. This took over the TV and prevented me from finding the settings menu or configuring the digital and satellite reception,so I would recommend not installing YouView at the start and enabling it later on after the TV is working OK if you wish. The home screen on the 2019 model I bought was not too friendly as the 'settings' option was right down the bottom, and wen I sought to update the firmware, the TV reported that it was up to date. However, having downloaded version V6.6520 from the Sony website and installed that from a USB stick, the Home screen has been much improved and the 'settings' option is now at the top-right of the screen.

The picture is the best on any TV I've experienced. It is stunning in 4k but does an extremely good job of up-scaling HD and indeed SD. The blacks and contrast are stunning. The TV however is slightly underpowered and is slow to move between tiles on the home page. I've enabled developer mode and turned off animations which has made the world of difference but strikes me as an odd thing to have to on a TV to make it work smoothly straight out of the box. The more frustrating aspect has been the issue of constant re-booting, it can take 5 minutes (no joke) to turn the TV on as the operating system keeps on starting from scratch instead of waking from standby. It seems if you are using a device such as a sonos beam attached via HDMI it causes a crash every time you turn it off for a length of time. I've resolved the issue by following advice on some forums and disabling a number of network features. If you read the forums there is a considerable amount of disgruntled customers with little support from Sony other than suggesting a full factory reset (Which wipes all your settings). So in summary a beautiful set but flawed due to an under-powered processor and software updates that crash the TV.

My review for the Sony Bravia Oled 4K Ultra Smart TV.As a new user of a Oled TV, I have to say that I find the colours amazing. So vivid and bright. It has dolby sound, so audio is crisp. The TV is lovely and streamlined. So thin.... unbelievable. I have put ours up on the wall, and TV viewing is now like being in the cinema. It is very easy to navigate through the channels. There is a handy voice feature too. I find it very easy to find any channel we may need, or surf over and view Netflix etc. We already own a standard Sony Bravia 49" TV, and the difference is outstanding. Superb quality.Once you have your brain engaged, we found it very easy to set up and install the TV.The Oled TV is great for watching TV, or for a great film experience with that at home cinema feeling. Negative points.... Could do with a longer mains lead. It just reaches wall socket. For all plugs, jacks etc to be on one side. For easy access when wall mounted. No scart connections. Other than that, I would like to say this is a brilliant Oled TV. Yet another fantastic product from Sony. Would highly recommend. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

We have had this new TV for a couple of weeks now and are very happy with the quality of the picture and sound. However setting it up was a real challenge! being a "connected" TV it includes wifi and bluetooth connectivity and a number of associated services. All great, I'm sure, but if like me you are not knowledgeable about such things setting the TV up becomes a real challenge.I thought I would get some assistance from the documentation supplied with the TV.... WRONG! There is a substantial reference guide (more than 200 pages long) but when I look to it for help I fund only 15 of those pages are in English and they cover unpacking the TV, use of the remote control, the various connections available, how to screw it to a wall and the technical specification. NOTHING about the long and complex process to set it up for first use.I checked the on-line documentation and all that is offered is the same reference guide. So if you're confident with these things get this TV, it's great. If not then get the TV anyway, just pay the store to install and set it up for you.

Purchased this mid January after going to the other side as a devout Samsung fan. It's still very early days but so far so good, fantastic picture, crystal clear quality and so very thin. The only problems I've encountered so far, there is no scart socket nor is there an RCA/AV connector (Analogue Connection Cable) included which you would expect given the small fortune the TV cost. So I purchased one separately but it did not work with my Wii console (yes we all still play this!). With that in mind i.e. no AV/RCA or Scart sockets, the TV itself only has 3 HDMI ports (plus 1 Arc) - so a few more HDMI ports wouldn't go a miss, hence only 4 stars. In the end I also had to purchase a Wii to HDMI converter which took up another HDMI port. I currently have 4 devices connected to my TV that require HDMI so I'm having switch between two devices which is a pain. Also when you press the digital analogue button on the remote you only get a few seconds to select which source which is quite frustrating, haven't figured out yet if this setting can be changed?

Had the TV about 6 months now, the picture is very good, we chose it over other models for the picture quality, its got some good features and has all the connectivity you could ask for HDMI ARC works well with the Sonos Beam, my only concerns are with the software, we had issues with the TV turning itself off after about 5 seconds and we also had issues with it not starting and flashing the led RED 6 times, we had to completely reset it back to factory but now its started turning itself off again, the other thing is the Internet connection stops if the time is wrong!!! I assume it looks at the app when it checks the time and the app updates the time based on where the app is coming from,I've had to set it to internet time 3 times so far and it keeps changing itself, only a minor thing, but annoying, last but not least is Alexa, for some reason Alexa can't seem to find the TV 80% of the time , even when its turned on and working she can't turn it off, but on the whole it's a good unit and it will be very good once the software issues are sorted

What a fantastic TV! I had never really liked our last one, but my wife had bought it without my knowledge. I decided that, as it was coming up to Christmas (and my wife's birthday) I would treat us all to a new one that was all singing all dancing. I opted for the largest one that I thought our room would take without it being over powering. Well, what's the point of not going bigger if you can? We bought a wall bracket at the same time as we had decided we didn't want it sat on a unit. I am quite handy so fitting the bracket and TV didn't take me too long.To set up all of the various features and options I nominated the job to our youngest daughter, kids eh!Well, we were up and running in quick sticks. The picture quality is outstanding! The sound is acceptable but we did also buy a sound bar to go with it so what we now have is a home cinema experience! If I was to offer a suggestion to improve the TV, that would be to factory fit rear LED lighting. I retro fitted some and the viewing now is so much more relaxed.

Took me ages to research all the oleds and qled but eventually chose the AG8.Big thing for me was SD upscaling and motion and this was the best on the market. Would have gone for the Q80 due to burning worries but when I saw the Q80 motion handling went for the AG8. Just hope that OLED burnin is overstated. User experience with the remote is not as smooth as the LG but the customisation due to android is a clincher. Picture and sound are stunning in all modes. Loads of streaming features and android apps (even supports kodi). Only missing feature is live pause for which you will need a settop box. Our TV is for the front room so about 7 hours a day usage with no gaming. Mixed viewing and films. The room is average brightness and the TV viewing is fine even in HDR.I set the OLED brightness to 50% and the colour saturation to 50%. Helps with screen longevity and power consumption without any degradation in picture quality.Just need a good source of UHD media now.

I purchased this telly 2 weeks ago, and decided my old 4K LG ultra def had seen its day, also wanted to upgrade to the most modern tv I could afford, which turned out to be the Sony oled 55 ag the picture quality is like nothing I have seen before on a telly, every colour seems so much brighter and the blacks so much darker.. it also has 4hdmi ports and 3 USB ports as well as optical in put for a sound bar, which I don’t think you will need as the sound from this tv is beyond amazing it’s called acoustic response I think so the screen itself is the speaker and when someone is talking the sound seems to be coming from the mouth of the person on tv at the time, there are no visible speakers anywhere.very basic remote with google assistant built in and reacts to voice commands very well. If I have to remove 1 star from the rating it is because the remote is a little sluggish when you have your sky box or virgin box linked to it.. overall 4 and a half stars from me .

Bought this 55" OLED TV in July 2020, so pleased with my purchase. The picture quality is amazing and it has easy to use controls to make any adjustments needed. The setup was a breeze and it has now become the family hub. We have a similar size Samsung TV with similar features but the OLED screen is certainly a big plus for Sony. While OLED is more pricey, it is well worth the extra amount. The depth of black is so much better when we compare the two TVs. Sound level is just right for general family viewing. Unless you want to generate a true cinema experience with very loud sounds, what you get as standard is ample, so no need for a soundbar unless you enjoy your viewing very loud. The sound fills the room so everyone is happy. The night time sound feature is also a nice touch, making viewing experience a pleasure while not being so intrusive for others while asleep. Could not be more pleased with my purchase of AG8.

I love the TV. OLED is definitely the future. The OS is a little bit laggy but I was aware of this from other reviewers as this as the older Processor compare to the A9G. But, it’s very useable and you won’t notice after a while.I’ve been using my Playstation Pro as my media centre previously before but the built-in Netflix on this unit is much better than the PS4 Pro as it support Dolby Vision and it automatically adjust the picture bases on what you’re watching. MASSIVE PLUS!The OLED is so good, I’ve turned off some HDR features in games as I can’t tell the difference anymore. This TV is truly wonderful and you won’t regret it. Especially if it’s your first time like myself, this is a great entry OLED.Sony OLED will definitely be my next purchase, the 65 A9G is what I have my eyes on right now. But we’ll see what new and wonderful thing they will come out with.Happy customer.
