When I was a kid the Neo-Geo was a console of legend. No-one I knew owned one and the only time I ever saw it played was on the odd episode of Gamesmaster. It was a ludicrously expensive system with even more ludicrously expensive games but those games looked so much better than anything I got out of my SNES.As such I bought this game purely so that I could finally own some of the games I'd yearned to play about 15 years ago, and to be honest, it's a bit of a mixed bag. Obviously graphics that were dazzling back in the early '90s are completely unremarkable now but the gameplay makes at least some of the games worthwhile. The Neo-Geo's game catalogue was always dominated by 2D fighting games.Reflecting this half of the 16 titles on offer here are fighters. Fighting games are always considerably more fun as a multi-player experience and as such this collection only really shines when you have a few friends round. It's also worth noting that this game is also available on the Playstation 2 and PSP - if you have the choice the Wii version is definitely the best bet as the other two suffer from slowdown and have fewer controller options. The majority of the games included in the set have been (or soon will be) released on the Wii Virtual Console where they cost 900 points a pop. If you plan on buying more than a few of those then this set is a far cheaper option (with the added benefit of not using storage space).Below are some very brief descriptions of the 16 games you get:Art of Fighting (1992) - unsurprisingly this is a fighting game. Only two characters are playable in the 'Story Mode' but eight become available in 'VS mode' (10 if you cheat a bit).Baseball Stars 2 (1992) - again the clue is in the title, a genuinely fun, cartoonish baseball game.Burning Fight (1991) - a fun side-scrolling fighter in the style of Streets of Rage or Double Dragon. Three playable characters to choose from.Fatal Fury: King of Fighters (1991) - the first of SNK's Fatal Fury one-on-one fighting games. The King of Fighters '94 (1994) - the first of SNK's 'King of Fighters' series which spun off from the Fatal Fury franchise (the inter-relations of all these titles can get a bit confusing).King of the Monsters (1991) - a Godzilla-style fighting game in which you choose between one of six monsters and do battle in a Japanese city, initially fun but soon gets tiresome, this also has some of the worst graphics of any games in the collection.Last Resort (1992) - an R-Type style shooter that's particularly tough (though a bit short).Magician Lord (1990) - a tricky platform game and a nice change of pace for the set after all the fighting games.Metal Slug (1996) - the classic side-scrolling shooter, not the best of the series, if you enjoy it then I'd recommend picking up the Metal Slug Anthology for the Wii which contains the first 6 games plus Metal Slug X.Neo Turf Masters (1996) - a decent enough golf game.Samurai Showdown (1993) - an excellent weapon-based head-to-head fighting game. One of the best games in the collection.Sengoku (1991) - a curious beat-em-up in which you can be a ninja or a cowboy. A fair bit of fun.Shock Troopers (1997) - somewhere between Super Smash TV and Chaos Engine (both great games) - a lot of fun on multi-player.Super Sidekicks 3: The Next Glory (1995) - a cartoonish football game in a similar vein to the golf and baseball ones before.Top Hunter (1994) - a nice little side-scrolling platform game.World Heroes (1992) - frustratingly you have to unlock this game by getting achievements in the others. It's well worth getting though because it's probably the oddest fighter of the lot. A scientist named Doc Brown (Back to the Future reference there I assume) has invented a time machine and decided to gather various historical figures so that they can all have a big old fight (there's also a shape-shifting alien in there for good measure). If you ever wanted to see Joan of Arc fight Rasputin then this is the game for you.All in all I'd say this is a good set and well worth the money (particularly if you were tempted to buy any of the games on Virtual Console where they cost much more). Just bear in mind that a lot of the charm of these games stems from their history and they probably won't stand up too well to modern expectations.

This is a good value game. It has 16 different games which are very diverse in their nature- some are fairly physical, some are intellectual some are eye coordination some are just silly! You can pick what suits your mood on the day.
