Sennheiser's GSP 550 boasts style and quality; it's an incredibly well made headset and has a very robust construction, I really can't see these falling apart any time soon. The style is fairly unique compared to other headsets available on the market, it kind of looks like it belongs in a military base (I don't mean that in a negative way). This headset is best used in conjunction with a PC/laptop, where you can download Sennheiser's own "Surround Dongle Software" which will optimise the audio output from this headset. The software is very minimal, so easy to navigate around, however some people may find it lacking in features and customisability, but the quick options to select a audio equalizer preset,noise-reduction toggle and sidetone adjustments are handy, regardless. You can use these on the PS4 via the USB cable where the sidetone will be permanently on when the microphone is in use, though the volume levels do seem to be much quieter when used on the PS4 this way. An alternative would be to separately purchase the 'GSA 506 Console Cable' which will allow you to plug the headset directly into the PS4 Dualshock 4 controller, or other device with a headphone port, but do note when using this cable, you will lose the sidetone functionality.Comfortability does lack to a certain degree with this headset which I was rather disappointed about. Unlike Turtle Beach's 'Elite Atlas Pro' or Razer's 'Kraken Tournament Edition' which melt around the ears for instant comfort, the GSP 550 has more of a harder feel which I personally find the initial wearing, unpleasant. That said, I can use these for long periods of time, but I don't have a consistent level of high comfort.Microphone quality is utterly crystal clear; I cannot fault the microphone quality at all, just superb.Overall audio quality is very good. I found the audio to be best when in use on a PC and the appropriate software is installed, it really was impressive! Despite this primarily being made with PC use at mind, the audio quality is still to a high standard.✔ Pros:✓ Robust build quality.✓ Great looking design.✓ Exceptional microphone quality.✓ Very good audio quality.✓ Can be used on PS4 with USB cable.⸗ Neutral:- Using with PS4 via USB, the maximum volume level does seem quieter than normal.✖ Cons:✘ Should have had softer earpads or had come with a variety of ear pads/cushions to customise comfort..·:*¨*:·.·:*¨*:·.·:*¨*:·.·:*¨*:·.I have attached a video to show the microphone quality, though bare in mind that depending on what device you are viewing this review from, the video may not be available to view.

My girlfriends headset was starting to fail, so i let her have my Hyper X Cloud Alphas i had not had for very long and it gave me an excuse to try these Sennheiser GSP 500's and they were on sale to.Compaired to The Hyper X Cloud Alphas These sound better, things are just generally clearer, especially the highs. These also give better base even though they are open back. i also found during FPS games such as escape from tarkov i could hear where people were coming from much better. Open back design is much better then closed back, you get a much better soundstage.having the volume control on the headset rather then messing about with a inline controller works much better for me and being able to just push the mike up to mute it when i need is also very handy,no fiddling around trying to locate the switch on a inline controller.I also tried this headset with a EVGA Nu Audio sound card aswell as the onboard audio from my Asus Maximus 10 Hero and they were phenomenal with the soundcard, still very good with onboard audio but volume can be a little low on some things. There was only really two let downs with these, they are harder to drive, Which is strange as they are a lower OHM then the Cloud Alphas,The comfort, For me atleast with the standard earcups for the GSP 500 hurt after a while they are a pretty uncomfortable fabric, This might be different for you. But for myself i ended up buying a replacement set of GSP600 ear cups direct from Sennheiser as they fit the GSP 500, They feel like they will not at first, but i can assure you, they do as listed by Sennheiser.

Note - I am writing this review on the day of arrival, coming straight from the old model 'equivalent', the PC 363D.I am not reviewing the surround sound as I don't own the hardware capable of it.The bass on these are incredible and easily is the most prominent part of the audio quality. It simulates a 3D environment using the open-back system, which can be a good thing. However, when compared to my previous pair, it sounds tinny and faint, having particular trouble on picking up on voices and medium-high notes which are relatively quiet even when at high volume. They are comfortable and have nice earpads, and the headband is not too restrictive though looks a bit silly on me.The noise cancellation is not very good and only seems to cancel your voice vibrations - but personally I don't mind that too much. If you're looking for very good noise cancellation I wouldn't go for this set. They look very fancy, as does the box and its inside presentation. Volume control can be found on the right side, but is initially stiff, perhaps intentionally.Be sure to plug in the 2.5m (or 1.5m for consoles) cable into your headset firmly, otherwise sound may only come through one side of the headphones. The microphone is not incredible and has a consistent (though faint) background noise. But it is sensitive as your voice comes through clearly and picks up on quiet sounds like whispering.Overall, I give it 4/5 stars. They are very good but I preferred my old set.

I had the same pair of (non gaming) Pioneer headphones for years which I thought were good quality and I bought the Sennheiser GSP 500 headset mostly for the surround sound in gaming.I also purchased the Sennheiser GSX1000 Audio Amplifier and together the sound quality is amazing. The 7.1 surround sound of the GSX1000 with this headset takes gaming to another level. I used the headset directly through my PC before purchasing the GSX1000 and they still sounded brilliant too. There is masses of bass and very good mid/high tones (note however I am not a sound engineer). I like to volume button on the right ear, it feels solid and I have no complaints about the volume level whatsoever.I frequently use the mic during gaming and everybody I have spoken to in game, say they can hear me perfectly well. It's worth adding that I think the build quality is very good, they feel very well made and I also really like the design and colour. As others had noted, the headset is tight on your head and I would agree with this, even after several months of use. That said, I can go a few hours before feeling the need to reposition them on my head so it's not too much of an issue but worth mentioning. As above, I had the same old pair of headphones for many years and throught they were fine so maybe there's others which are better than the GSP 500's, I will never know as I am very happy with these and will likely have them as long as the old pair.Recommended!

My husband was given these headphones to review as he is fussy to the point of maddening when it comes to headphone quality. He had very high expectations because he has been using a pair of PC 350 Sennheisers for the last 12 years. The build quality is apparent as soon as you open the box. Impeccable build and high quality finish. Paired with the Dolby drivers the GSP 550s provides a surprising depth of sound stage, clearly defined mid tones (like voices) and a deep bass delivered in a tightly controlled manner. The bass never devolves into a sludgey muddy sound that cheaper headphones can provide. On the other end of the spectrum the treble is reproduced with pinpoint clarity. He spent hours revisiting all his favourite music picking out each individual instrument from Geezer Butler's thundering bass lines to the spine tingling presence of Hozier's vocals on Take me to Church. The GSP 550 are not just headphones its a full gaming headset. Again Sennheiser does not disappoint when it comes to the microphone. The clarity and sensitivity garnered more than a few impressed comments from those listening to the results on Teamspeak. Perhaps most impressive of all is Sennheisers noise cancelling technology. The microphone transmits only the voice, nothing but the voice and no background at all.All in all he is absolutely delighted with Sennheiser's latest offering and confident he will be listening to these for another twelve years.

This is a big headset, so don't plan on lugging it round. Whilst the controls are quite rudimentary (surround on / off, preset bass / treble for various activities and four sidetone volumes - the amount of your own voice you hear when talking - plus off / on for noise reduction) I just use it straight out of the box and the quality and sound imaging is good enough to let me know 'where' in game sound is coming from. There is an optional cable so you can use your PC sound card if you like (not supplied)The boom mike switches off when pushed out of the way, and whilst lightweight, it seems sturdy. The amount of head grip is adjustable - but on a new headset I have turned this right down and it's still a bit tight.Odds on it will loosen off over time, they usually do (I also have a Sennheiser PC360 set and they were very tight new but I can wear them all day now without discomfort)At sensible volumes what you are listening to is pretty well inaudible from anything more than 'very close' despite the 'open' design - which seems to be a couple of steel mesh panels on the cans. It doesn't leak sound like an open back design so it's a good compromise. So there you are, if you have money to burn on a gaming headset and don't want silly colours and lights (although an all black option would be preferred) then these are well worth a look.

I was a little apprehensive about buying these headphones after some people reported that the volume was too low, or that the audio quality was terrible. When I first plugged in the headphones, I had similar issues. Awful sound quality/volume despite installing drivers. However there's a very simple fix for this: The cable needs to be plugged into your PC (obviously) via USB. It then connects to the Dolby dongle. Then finally there's a headphone jack that plugs directly into the headset itself. The last part is where I suspect most peoples troubles are arising. That's because the headphone plug needs to be pushed into a recessed jack with what I can only describe as an UNCOMFORTABLE amount of force.Seriously, I was concerned I might break something. Because the jack is recessed, you can't see how much further the plug has to go in. But I can assure you it takes a bit of "oomph" to get it in there. Obviously nothing silly, but far more than I've encountered on any other headphone I've ever used. However once the jack is in place properly, you'll find the sound quality has vastly improved. And that said, I've found the headphones to be a great purchase so far (on sale at 50% off RRP) so your mileage may vary depending on when you buy them.

This is almost a 5 star headset. Almost.I had been running HD 555's with a standing mic since maybe.. 2006/2008 (had two pairs)It was the mic that was becoming an issue, and I didn't really want to go into mod-mic or a massive standing mic, so I needed a headset.I've always been a fan of Sennheiser, so I wanted to stay with the brand. These are almost perfect:* Sound stage - Great* Bass - Perfectly acceptable for a gaming headset* Turn-dial - Useful feature. There is only one con, and for some, it's a big deal, for others, not so much. The design. It's just neither practical, nor is it attractive.I honestly just wish this headset had the drivers, but in the design of the game-one/zero's.Such a shame, almost perfect.Sennheiser seem too be trying to hard to grab the attention of "gamers" with this design. When you get the positioning right, the headset is perfectly comfortable, but takes time to find that position.I've always been performance > Quality - so I'm fine with the balance struck here. But it's a shame they decided to use this convoluted design and not the normal tried and tested design.Still a great headset. No regrets in buying, but I just wish it was in the shape of the One/Zero.

I replaced this model for my broken hd201 (also senhieser) and i might as well have been using tin cans on a string...utterly sublime audio, and the mic is pretty clear if a little tinny and prone to picking up everything.they look stupid on your head, but this design makes them easy to wear and sometimes you'll forget you have them on once you set them to fit and worn them enough they aren't as tight on the head/ ears but even then there is no loss in audio qualty two points of adjustment for both sides.volume control can get a bit /loose if you constantly go back n forth on the dial but if you turn it up to max and leave it alone it'll be fine, mine as a slight issue at max from adjusting it too much, and the left side is slightly lower than the right at max, but thats my fault. one tiny turn of max brings the volume back to level.also used them on xbox one with the included cable and they make gaming a dream. but for this money they could be bettered slightly with gaming focused headsetsi wear them a lot and they still feel and sound amazing from day 1.

I have to start off by saying I am thoroughly impressed with these gaming headphones, Sennheiser make very good headphones and these are no exception. These feel light to wear for prolonged gaming sessions, but do not feel cheap or plasticy. The open back means I can hear ambient noise, without it disturbing my play, so I am able to hear the doorbell or if I am called in the house. The sound quality is incredible and much better than my existing headphones which cost over £130! There is an adjustment on the headband where you can control how tight the headphones sit on your head, this way they will not fall off if you lean back etc. The mic is very responsive and my team could hear me clearly. The wires are of a good quality and whilst it may be easier to be wireless, the sound quality is improved with wires. The ear padding is very comfortable. I could go on, but these are the main salient points are enough to show my enthusiasm for these, If you are into serious about online gaming then these are well worth considering and beat many higher priced competitors.

I have used this product pretty much daily for the past 9 months or so, here are my thought on it.The first thing you need to know is that on their own the audio is very quiet. If you have the money I would recommend that you buy an audio amplifier to go along with this product so that you don't need to re-adjust all of your audio levels, it is entirely functional without one but it can make getting particularly quiet inputs up to a reasonable level quite difficult. That said, let me address the features that this item is rated on; noise cancellation; sound quality; and volume control. The noise cancellation is fair, but not fantastic. It lowers external noise to a level that it can be easily ignored but does not block it entirely. The sound quality is fair, it lacks in sub-base but other than that it is alright. The volume control works alright, the control knob on the headset is fine enough for most circumstances and I have only rated this as a 3 due to the generally low volume of the headset as a whole.

I am going to be honest...... I've been crying in sheer joy with every song I have heard, every game bgm and sound effect since buying these. And I'm not even using a DAC that is as good as this headset.Yes they are a little bass heavy atm but with a decent DAC and EQ set up I should be able to sort that out. It's not overly heavy to me though.Listening to Queen is like being there in person, for those who like dance/trance/rave etc perfect. Rich full sound, independent volume control on the right earpiece. Incredibly comfy.Playing DOOM is an audio assault (pun intended, heh) but when you listen to quieter sounds like Vangelis or Enya they still sound full and vibrant.Should have bought these long agoNow to find a DAC to pair them with.Best thing I have ever bought for my earsThey are open backed so back ground noise can be heard, I just turn up the volume, easy. So if your on a bus listening to Justin Bieber.... yeah others will be able to hear and giggle.Fantastic headset

These are wired around-ear headphones from one of the leading headphone brands.First off: these are massive. Chunky, heavy, plastic bad boys that are presumably designed for 15 year olds to throw around in frustration when their character dies in a game of Fortnite. They are certainly built to last. They are wired, not bluetooth, and have a robust microphone. They are described as "open' but the ear pads do enclose your ears. Compared to some headphones I have, these are not super-comfy. However they do seem built to last and the pressure on head is adjustable. The hinging is good: metal hinges that are bidirectional. On one of the cups is a volume control dial, which is really handy. On an extended game-play session, these have proven to be comfortable, robust, with great sound quality & clear microphone communication.Add to that the fact they would survive a thermonuclear attack, and I'd say these are excellent premium gaming headphones.

I fell in love with this headset right from the start. Sturdy build quality and I like the black and red design itself. The microphone's sound quality is great. The mic is also easy to turn on and off: downwards = on & upwards = muted. The rotating volume knob on the right earcup is also very handy and works like a charm. It's also a very big plus, in my book, that there is no usb dongle BS cable ruining things. The cable is also detachable, and there is one with the audio and mic 3.5mm jacks and another one for just audio. The sound quality is great for music, games, movies etc. Crisp sound with nice high's and low's. The headband is adjustable in two different ways: from the top to tighten the "grip" and on each side to adjust for those big ol'heads too. For its price range, I really can't recommend this headset enough. Excellent Sennheiser quality, as always.

Been through a good few headsets to find a decent one, picked up the gsp 500 for £109 absolute bargain for the kit, I use it on xbox one and mobile and it's greatReally decent sound stage, plenty of detail and surprising bass for open back, get what people say about the comfort it's quite tight on the bottom of your neck but really good seal round the ears and it will break In after a few months no doubt.Loads of comments saying not load enough, make sure xbox volume is turned up in the actual system and this will belt out the audioI run it with Dolby atmoshow on xbox, playing warzone it's got great detail in the highs and mids pick out boxes and footsteps much easier than my last unit (cloud stinger)After trying 9x,cloud alpha and astro a40 save yourself the hassle and pick this bad boy up : )
