Rocket League really is a one of a kind game with nothing else out there remotely like it. Play football whilst speeding around the pitch in any number of cars, picking up boosts to speed up your car while smashing into the enemy and destroying them into a million pieces. There really is nothing else like this out there, and it is definitely worth the asking price of around £15. But what's it all about?Well forget story modes or anything like that, this is literally a pick-up and play game. The closest we come to a campaign is the season mode, where you and an optional amount of teams are put into a league and you play each other so many times, trying to reach the play-offs with a view to win the league. There is also an exhibition mode where you can either play on your own vs the computer, or you can play split-screen (remember those!) with a friend. Exhibition lets you change all sorts of things such as the type of ball (puck or cube!) the level of bounce of the ball, etc. Finally there is also an online mode where you can take people on from all over the world. So what is the gameplay like? Really good, but frustrating at times. Let's not forget you're driving a car around a pitch trying to hit a ball with a car, you will often find yourself driving under the bloody thing, racing across the pitch towards the ball only to have it knocked back to the other end as you get there, there is a jump option which can be a bit embarrassing when you jump up to 'head' the ball and completely miss and are just left floating through the air like a goon until you finally hit the ground. Despite these minor frustrations, the game-play is great, there is different difficulties for you opponents, this won't help you find the game-play easier, but it does make the game easier. Racing around the map is brilliant fun though, smashing the ball towards your opponents net, using the handy curved corners of the pitch to try and cross the ball in to your team-mates, using the boosts to smash your opponents into oblivion and finally rushing towards the ball at 'kick off' only to smash into all the other players like a destruction derby bowl style smash-fest!The graphics and music is one of my favourite parts of this game, the music is quite techno, which I do really enjoy and always gets you pumped for the next match. The graphics are very good, with the game being quite small it's obvious that the developers could put a lot of focus on making the graphics great, which is exactly what they've done. Leaving you to roll around the match in a bright and fluorescent neon type of style. Finally, for those of you who like to customise things. You won't be disappointed, as you progress by playing more and more matches you will unlock all sorts of add-ons for your car. From smoke to wheels to hats!I would definitely recommend this game for anyone tempted, you really won't suffer a huge blow to your wallet if you don't like this game, and I highly expect most people will. I have taken a star off purely because this is not the type of game you can play for hours on end and you will eventually become bored, however, this is definitely a game you will find yourself going back to over and over again. Best played little and often, rather than heavily.

I was not paid to write this review.I paid for my copy of the game (and three copies for friends on steam).I paid for the keys to open crates in-game.PC Spec played at: 4K support on PC version works flawlessly and a GTX 1080 provides more than 60fps on Ultra settings with an i7-4790k.It is eye-blindingly gorgeous.Synopsis: Rocket League is football, hockey and basketball with cars.Review:Not since the days of picking up Mario Kart for the first time has a racing game been so engrossing and immediately addictive. Rocket League has a thriving online community, integrated play between console and PC players, and enough fun and engaging customization options to allow everyone to drive a car that feels immediately theirs.Dare to look beneath the hood and you will find this is a game that has a subtle but definite skill curve. Even after hundreds of hours you will find that you are still improving the look of the car and modifying the way that you play. The geniuses at Psyonix have built a game that genuinely seeps with their obsession to get everything just right. From the car mechanics, to the ball physics, and to the curvature of the arena walls that you will begin driving up and using as though gravity does not apply to the likes of you. There is a great crate system. Crates are earned through play-time and they require keys to open. Keys can be purchased at an additional cost or earned through trading other items or crates for them). It is often possible to land items in crates from time to time that can be extremely valuable; for instance, I now have numerous rare animated car decals and painted wheels that are worth between 20 keys and 40 keys each (twice the value of buying the game!).There is nothing quite as satisfying and rapid a multiplayer experience online and I whole-hardheartedly encourage you to pick up a copy of this game because you will get much more than your money's worth. The main mode is football, but hockey is just as satisfying. A tip for playing football is to not race to the wall and to anticipate the rebound and position to meet it there. In hockey, the opposite applies and you should gun up the wall to meet the puck on the wall and fire it around the arena towards their goal. This game is the first game I would say has ever come close to a 10/10 for me. Sure, there is even more to look forward to from this game in the future with continued meaningful updates. But whether you buy on xbox, ps4, or Steam, you are in for a brilliant experience. You do not even have to like or be good at FIFA or real football to find this enjoyable, which is testament in itself that it truly holds its position as a bonafide e-sport of its own.The e sport competition each year with the best players has a prize pool of $125,000 and will keep growing.CONCLUSION:Amazing stuff. You won't be disappointed.

Rocket League is one of the purist, most unique and fascinatingly robust video games I've ever played. In a nutshell it's football with cars.. and rockets - but that would be doing a huge disservice to it's insane skill curve. This is a game that's simple to pick up at first, always fun to play and ultimately incredibly difficult to master. Whilst initially you'll be struggling to get your car in the right positions at the right time or hit the ball at the right angle, a bit of time and practice will see you developing your basic timing and understanding of the game's physics. Put more time in and you'll start experimenting, trying tighter angles, aerial balls, dribbling and trickshots. You'll get creative, pull off stunts and wonder goals. Dig deeper and you'll find an increibly layered tactical game of positioning and cycling. Reach even further (several years down the road) and you might just start pulling off mind-blowing technical air dribbles.. just have a look at what the pros can do in competitions.Gameplay is paramount here, but there's also a good amount of content and features after several years of improvements. There's practice mode, training, 1v1, 2v2, 4v4, a slew of extra modes like hoops, dropshot and more. Plus there's a pretty impressive custom game mode that allows you to mess with the physics in all sorts of interesting ways. There's competitive matches, casual matches and cross-platform support. It's hard to fault as a multiplayer game, it's just so polished. Then there's the car customisation. The game will see you unlocking a ton of new car models and decorations with almost limitless possibilities. There is a heavy dose of monetisation in the form of the Rocket Pass (think fortnites battle pass) and loot boxes (or keys in this case) and the game does dangle these tantilisingly in front of you to which I am very weak. However, this game is so good and it's base price is so low that honestly I don't mind it. I've gotten so much value out of the game that I'm happy to throw a few quid here and there to make my car look even cooler. I'd prefer if there was less randomness and better probablities of the items you actualluy want.. but there we go.Overall Rocket League is one of the best and most unique games I've ever played. It's great to kill a quick 5-10 minutes with or an entire evening with your friends. I've been playing for years and I'm still in love.

I already owned the PC version of this game after playing an extensive 'Free Play Weekend' trial. During the 48 hours that I had access to it I played a total of 23 hours in-game. I enjoyed the game so much that i purchased soon after the weekend ended. My friends also played the trial and enjoyed it equally as much as me. Over the last 4 month of owning it I have played over 150 hours of it on steam. The only issue I had was that I currently do not own a PC built for gaming so I felt restricted as the game became more competitive. When someone had told me that there was an Xbox One version of the game I instantly became interested. As I already owned an Xbox One and knew the game would run at a near locked 60fps I decided to buy it.It was slightly disappointing to find that I couldn't link my Steam account to my Xbox account meaning my 4 months of progress would have been lost. However it didn't bother me too much as the main thing that you get from from progressing in the game is aesthetic items for your car. Other than that the Xbox version of rocket league is the exact same version as the PC version, the only difference being unable to use a keyboard and mouse.I am overall very happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone who wants to play Rocket League as from my experience there is no difference between the PC and Xbox One versions and I assume the same of the PS4 version. Recommended.

From a game that I was 'giving a go' to my favourite game of all time! Absolutely amazing game, customizing your vehicles to take out into battle against either the CPU or online players. The actual feel and the physics of the game are surprising perfect, being able to jump into the air and use your boost on the back to send you sky high or travel further, faster... For the price I seriously recommend, I bought it for £16 and now I have got it, I would pay £45 for it! The game just never seems to bore me, being able to play for fun or competitive with a wide variety of team size choices. One thing which I do wish they would add is an online tournament where you could play against other online users in a battle for that number one spot, with top 3 spots giving you different prizes such as a rare item for third and the higher you finish the better the prizes. Overall this game is just a 100% no brainer for me and everyone I know that has it feels the same. You won't be disappointed.

FIFA + HOT WHEELS. Never thought I would own this game.... Played it during an Xbox Live Free-To-Play weekend and immediately purchased the full game! It's honestly so much fun to play and eventually grow your skills in the Rocket League arena.I know so many people of so many different ages who play this game and everyone seems to LOVE IT.It's constantly being updated. You receive random "loot" items for finishing games. You can unlock 'crates' with micro transactions which give you better random items and all items can be traded with other players. There's so much to keep you playing as well as the actual gameplay, I would be surprised if you don't enjoy this game.

A lot of these reviews are saying how this is a good casual game etc. etc. for non-gamers. This is true, but it is also a very competitive game with an extraordinarily high skill ceiling. Easy to pick up, hard to master. After 500 hours in playing time, I am only ranked as Platinum 3 (Just over half way up the global rank leaderboard) - there is so much more to the game than driving around and hitting the ball in the general direction of the goal. The mechanics (aerials, air dribbles, flicks, ground passing, ground shots etc.), the strategy and game understanding (rotations, positioning, team communication). For such a simple idea it is a ridiculously good game.

Overall fun and enjoyable game to play by yourself or with friends online. Constantly receiving free DLC updates, but some items (such as crates and some cars) are locked behind a paywall which isn't great as opening crates is almost essential to 'trading', where players can trade different items between each other (wheels, decals, accessories etc.). Only issue for me is that after a while the game can become a bit boring as constantly playing online matches is a repetitive process, but for the odd few games every other day the game is a must-buy for Xbox One.

I'm writing this on behalf of my 10.5 year old son who received this as a Christmas present. He says: It's good because you can customise any car you want and go against other teams. There's different difficulties along the way & there's also different ways to play e.g. hoops, rumble, soccer & styles for playing. You can also play it with a friend on the same screen, so multi-player. The only downside is that to play with friends who are on a different PS, you have to have PS Plus.

An instant classic. This game never gets boring, the 505 Games/Psyonix team are constantly updating and improving the game with tweaks, new game types and new maps/arenas. You hardly ever have to wait long to be launched into a new match and each game is a short, sharp, intense contest that keeps you hooked and coming back for more.I actually purchased as a download from the Xbox Store, but just had to submit my review here when I found out they were releasing a physical copy too!

Me and my son play this game (he is 5). He can win and sometimes I do. I like the fact there is online gaming and even with friends via the XBox. It means we are all in different homes with COVID-19 restrictions worldwide. It's unfortunate times so we have to fine other ways to play with each other.I like games like this where you can play for 5 mins then take time out. This allows for a quick game before dinner in the evening. A well thought out game.

It is rare for me to comment on a game, but for £15 I cannot think of any better value game!Yes its very simplistic, however it does have decent enough game modes, and the online is soooooo much fun.I have played hundreds of games in my time, and for something I was expecting to be bang average, I am so surprised.Pick up and play. Whether that be a quick 5 minute game or a good 2 hour session. Brilliant stuff, and most of all a good laugh.

Brilliant game combining driving and futuristic football - kids really liked it, especially playing with adults at Christmas. Takes time to get used to the controls and can be frustrating to pick up if you're an adult and a bit rubbish at games in general (like me). Maybe the kids loved it as they were able to beat the adults so easily - not such a bad thing and no doubt bragging rights will be theirs again this xmas!

Rocket League is a Game for all ages to play. As you know It is a game of football but using cars and not people which my children like and they like upgrading cars and playing with friends online as well. You dont have to play online. We have had this game for a couple of years and they still play this game with friends. We had brought this one for a birthday present so would recommend it.

22.7.2016

Mindless fun. I do feel as though the price is a little steep for what's on offer though, this should only be £10 indie title but I guess its not a huge issue. I would love to see online tournaments and better ideas to show recognition of how good a player you are than what's already on offer. It is really addictive though. If you live football and cars its a no brainer
