I don't usually review games or anything but here is a short review of the latest PES.PES 2014 is an improvement over 2013 in a lot of ways. They have a new engine and you can tell because the graphics are a step up from last years game which to me looked a little washed out. Players look more realistic. shirts move (slightly) and get dirty during the match. The crowd are pretty good and now have proper shirts(including the official replicas) and scarfs which is a nice touch when you compare it with the two tone sea from all the years previous. I am really impressed with the grass. On some of the pitches it looks real. Seriously, the San Siro Stadium has never looked so good. How does it play?=================Well, the game has received an overhaul in the gameplay department too. Shooting, passing, player AI movement and defending seem to be better and more rewarding as a result. I thought last years shooting felt off as powerful shots that should have went in didn't but a weak shot along the ground would beat the goalkeeper. This time shooting feels good and although you can expect to hit a weak shot if you don't position your player correctly. It is now possible to achieve the kind of strike you had in mind when picking up the ball. It's more like the good PES era of the PS2 days.Other changes to the game include the introduction of a visible guide for set-plays. By using the sticks you choose how much you want to curve the corner or free kick. Power also comes into play so it doesn't become too easy. It's really useful for free kicks you want to sent to a player at the back post.Another interesting feature is the use of what they are calling Combination-Play.Basically, when you are setting up your team you get to choose 3 combination plays and where on the pitch you want to use them. You do that by selecting an area on the numbered grid on the formation screen - e.g. a move near the corner, middle of the park, in front of the box. One of the choices you can make is for one called OVERLAP. During the match when you run into the section on the pitch where the Combination-play happens, an icon will appear showing the move is available. By double tapping the left trigger one of your teammates will make a run giving you the option to play a long pass or through ball. It may feel awkward at first but after a while it feels like a useful tool especially on harder difficulties.Other than that it's similar to what you know if you have been playing PES titles of the last few years. Licenses are still missing(Man Utd are the only Official English team). The transfers that just happened didn't happen in this game(Bale is still in the UK, Ozil is still in Spain...). In that respect PES hasn't changed, the same old annoyances are there. Stadium count is low which I think is because the lost the license to Spanish grounds (although 17 is ok and the detail of them is really high). The presentation is still bad. I'm not going to say much about the commentary, personally I don't mind it. It seems to be the big thing with 'proper' reviewers. Music is a mixture of Luciano Pavarotti and some well known football themes (from FRANCE 98') that you'll have grown well tired of before you even started playing this- I turned them off after a while. (There is the option to include your own songs from the hard drive).Worse than the commentary is the menus.=======================================When I first loaded up the game I was hit with the same 4 or 5 messages I was used to seeing from my time with the previous game. Big grey screen filling boxes telling me about maintenance, boot packs, updates and a thank you from the team for my patience. The update was the only important one as without it you can't use the online component of the game. So I went into the menus to begin the download. 3O minutes later and 5% gone on the status bar I was sure I was playing PES again.I had to cancel it as it was taking for ever and I didn't have time for it then. Later that night I tried again and it was around 2 hours later when at 35% I decided to leave the console on overnight and hopefully get a match in the morning. Next morning I woke up to find the download failed. As of writing this review I can't get the download to work. It's really poor that they would have this problem on day one but not unexpected. I have decided to forget about online until there is more information on the patch. Hopefully that will be soon. Squad updates please! What I have been able to do===========================I have been having fun in the Master League. Sure it is showing it's age now and hasn't really changed much but as I am 23 matches into my first season with the default team, the game must be doing something right(I bought GTAV this week!). Playing Master League on Superstar with the rubbish players is proving a good challenge but its more fun building a team of your own and trying to win the divisions. I failed to sign anyone during the half way transfer window but you get a sense of players being unique which I guess is not exclusive to this version of PES.I have only played ML and I tried some training before that. I have tried to learn all the moves to get the most out of the game but I do find the tutorials temperamental. Often I am sat reading the commands and watching the instruction videos but pulling off the moves seems to be impossible even though you might do the same move in a proper match. The timing is hard to get right. Annoying...or maybe it's me.Other Issues with the gameplay.===============================I am playing on the hardest setting and so far I haven't played with any of the good teams but I think the goalkeeping is weak at times. My ML players rate 65-70 max but shots blast in that shouldn't. The ball is so close to the goalkeeper he should really do something but often he lets it in. Its frustrating when its you conceding but it also takes away from the overall experience when it is happening so often. Don't get me wrong, the goalkeepers can pull of some excellent saves but it's weird to see them being so useless sometimes (it was noticeable in the demo too - with the good teams!).Overall=======Good:Shooting is improved.Stadiums and crowd look great.Combination play is a good addition.Set play visual cursor is useful.Good selection of tournaments and clubs. You can play a league season again!Bad:Menus are bland with big grey messages.Goalkeeping is suspect. No rain or snow.Online modes need a patch that doesn't work(for me at least)Bale and Ozil haven't moved anywhere.Licenses are missing - as per usual.Music is bad.Commentary...im not going to mention the...I have gave it a 4 star. It's not perfect but this is the start of a new phase for the series with the new engine and all. If they can continue to build on this then FIFA will have to raise their game again.

I have never played a football game better than this. The game is very tough just like real life.I was a fifa fan before trying pes 2013(I had already played fifa 14 by that time, but I didn't like it,even fifa 13 was better than it).At first I felt the game to be very tough and confusing. But after a month I was completely in love with the game. so I went with pes and now I bought pes 2014. The game is very much different from the previous edition. The game is really fascinating. This is the closest any football game came to real life football.Talking about the features of the game, the features differ a lot from pes 2013.there are so many features that i'm finding it very difficult to get over pes 2013 and start pes 2014.1.HEARTThe new heart feature has a direct influence on the game. The player grows in confidence after scoring or blocking a goal or pulling off some tricks.I pulled off a couple of skills to get past three players using CR7 and then he was brimming with confidence. Then a freekick straight at the crossbar and then finally a counter attack goal from him from the edge of the box straight into the bottom corner.2.MASSWith this feature the gets a physical feel to it(much like real life).Unlike Fifa jostling can be used to great extent in pes 2014.The shoulder barge feature is another great addition. The game feels a lot more realistic with this feature. In the previous edition and in all the fifa games,it was possible that when going for a loose ball oscar could beat yaya toure on foot race and get to the ball and yaya toure simply has to chase the rather than using his strength to get to the ball. The dribbling has become more difficult when you are being jostled by a defender(You have to use your strength to prevent him from knocking you off the ball). That doesn't mean that You use the strength of hulk or toure and always come with the ball, use the strength above the limit and you will be penalised. This is the best addition to this year's pes.3.SET PIECESThe set pieces now come with a guide and you have to aim by using both the left and right stick. The feature to select the receiver of the ball is now gone. The penalties have been improved and even goalkeeping is fun in this edition(even in open play).4.WEIGHT SHIFTThe new weight shift feature now allows more ways to control a ball and "pass receiving" is greatly enhanced by it.This is the first game i have seen where there are so many variations in the way the ball is received rather than a simple trap or a knock on.For fifa gamers the concept of receiving the ball and first touch is same but in pes it is much more than that(it can only be explained by video).5.COMBINATION PLAYNow you can attack with a lot of advantage over the defenders wit the combination play feature where you get to attack in a preset way. Just like real life, committing more players can leave holes in the defence for the opposition to exploit.6.BETTER DEFENDINGThe defending is highly enhanced by the MASS feature which makes you defend using your physical force. You can defend as a team rather than as a single defender. You can commit 2-3 players on one player.7.ADVANCED FEATURESIn this year's edition of pes , advanced through pass and shot have been added which are quite brilliant(the through ball particularly). Now you can place the through ball exactly where you want. This feature is quite exciting and it is another feature which can't be explained by words.8.OTHER NOTABLE CHANGESPulling off tricks never felt better. The more you do them the more you will enjoy. The ball moves very realistically. The fake shot/cross/pass(all these features don't serve any purpose in fifa as the defenders never react to them) have been improved. This thing again needs a video to explain. There are 4 types of fake shots in this edition. Now you can also hit freekicks under the jumping wall.NOTE- If you are shifting from fifa to pes this time PLAY WITH BASIC THROUGH BALL AND SHOT.Try all the training games before playing a match bcoz you will be left wondering at what is happening on the field.(no football game had these kind of features before). You can hit grounded shots, knuckle shots and all the other shots included in fifa. This game has better 1-2 features than fifa(you can make the first player run in your desired direction and return the ball to him). You can control two players at a time. PATIENCE is the key as this game is a lot complicated as compared to fifa 14 and in the first 20 or so matches you will struggle(I scored my first goal in my eleventh match). But after that this game feels amazing. Don't be too cocky, don't set the difficulty more than regular. And don't try to try all things in a single match.Take some time to get used to this game. It woud be better if you play pes 2013 before trying pes 2014, otherwise you will find it very difficult(none of the fifa players can play at this level from the very first match, even the pes players can't play at this level). Most of the fifa players will not be able to keep patience and get back to fifa saying that this game's gameplay is very poor and it doesn't have more than some twenty stadiums and no EPL and other top leagues. This game is only for those who want to play a football simulation and not an arcade football game meant for kids. Those who keep patience will encounter a truly magical football experience. For me it's the 2nd best thing in the world to do.(1st place belongs to playing football).

I have played PES for years but fell away from it until i bought the 2013 version which i thoroughly enjoyed. I had recently tried fifa 14 to see what all the fuss was about and found the gameplay to be very poor compared to PES although the game looked lovely. I bought PES 14 as i enjoyed 13 so much and I have to say that i love it with a few caveats. The gameplay is superb, far better than fifa imo. Smoother, flowing and a much better game speed as fifa is far too fast. A much more relaxing and responsive game to play than fifa imo. However the user interface is dated and a bit irritating. The mouse menu style does not look good and has a slightly cheap feel and look.Making substitutions involves dragging players around like you are putting something in a recycle bin.I want to just click on the guy coming off and the guy coming on like in fifa which has better in game operating systems. There is only an option to store 3 different formation and tactics information which you can change in game, which isnt enough. It should have at least 5 spaces.PES also doesnt have the real team names for the EPL . These can be edited however and it takes around an hour or maybe less and only has to be done once. Same with some international strips. Its a bit annoying but worth it for the gameplay which is on a different level to fifa imo. Some teams seem to be missing though and as a Borussia Dortmund fan i found it bizarre that a team in the champions league final as recently as 2 years ago would not be included. No German league either which is a pity as German football is fantastic. If PES can sort the dated looking ( although easy to use) menu system , scrap the made up teams and leagues ( i am sure nobody uses them) and get the real team names for the EPL this game would be more popular than fifa. The other leagues in Europe and South america all have the real team names so i amnot sure why this is such a problem. The gameplay is addictive. Yes, there might be a few frame rate issues but i cant help feeling this is incredibly picky. Barely noticeable except to real geeks and nerds who are pedantic about these things. Buy it, its really good and only drops a star due to the menu and team name issues.

This game arrived very quickly once ordered, I came nicely packaged in a cardboard enclosure, the game itself was wrapped in a clear packaging which is very easy to remove, the game is very easy to install onto the Xbox 360 systems, you simply place the game in the disc drive, and then the game will load up immediately, once loaded, you are greeted with a nice looking home screen, from here, you can access all the games main features, such as the kick off mode and the manager mode, with the kick off mode, you can play as all your favorite teams against either the COM or up to 4 players (locally), with the manager mode feature of the game,it allows you to take control of your favorite team and manage them as you try and get to the top of the footballing pyramid, in terms of graphics, the game is a big step up from the last entry in the franchise, but it could be better, but it is miles ahead of the FIFA franchise, in terms of mechanics of the game, They are very good and much more realistic than fifa. The one downside of the game is that most of the teams in the English league (and others) are unlicensed, which takes away from some of the realism. Overall if you are looking for a more realistic game then PES is the game for you, if you want a more arcade game, then FIFA should be your choice.

So I have been playing this game since its launch and I have to say that the gameplay is back to its superb best. Yes I know it doesnt have all the bells and whistles, the team names still need editing, and the menu consoles are like something from the 80's, but, and it is a big BUT, if you stick with it, this is the most realistic footy game yet.It just feels right, passing is great, fending off opposition in the turn feels natural and doesnt always come off (just like real life) and although shooting doesnt always feel how you intended it, you will still score a huge variety of goals that keep you coming back. Well done konami you have took a risk and it has paid off,now if you could spend a bit more time on the user interface and presentation I think more FIFA fans will also stick with it to reap the same rewards as the more die hard PES legions.

this is a massive improvement over previous pes titles on the 360. graphics are excellent, players look like their real life counterparts, crowd atmosphere is like real life. you have to work really hard to win a match, witch can be frustrating if your more used to fifa, as soon as you get the ball you get surrounded by the other team within seconds. AI is much better but sometimes your players move out the way of a pass or block your own shot. the only bad thing about this game is the transfers are out of date and some players are missing altogether, there is the old editing system back if you want to spend the hours creating and changing teams/players.overall a good game once you get used to being patient in winning a match and live with the out of date transfers.

A lot is being said about the frame rate issues for this years pes 14. I've read on the forums that the best thing to do is change the setting on you xbox 360 to 720p. I have a full HD1080p samsung tv and when played in 1080p the game was struggling with response times, lag issues. I have since changed these setting so the game is played in 720p and let's just say the game is absolutely immense with true fluid and responsive football that is an absolute joy to play. This may not change online gameplay but 1 vs 1 or vs computer is just so much fun. This is total football, all konami need to do is sort the data packs for faces, teams and stadiums and we have the best football game on the market.

I buy Fifa every year - I only play offline and plough hours into Career mode. However this year I found it so boring passing it around and around. World class level is a nonsense. So I bought Pes. Ive played a number of games to get to grips with the controls and then dived into Master League on Professional (I think is 4th Level out of 6).I am really enjoying the game so far (in second season). The game has its faults - Goalkeepers not reacting when the ball hits the post (twice they just stand there and I have conceded) and lack of development...But overall four stars.

27.2.2015

Despite minor frame-rate issues this was a fun game. It was my first PES game so I have nothing to compare it against, apart from Fifa 13. With this in mind I enjoyed the game a lot; it offered tournaments, teams and leagues different from Fifa 13. And I have to say that the gameplay physics felt more convincing than in the Fifa game, it felt like the players had weight when they moved around. Considering the frame-rate issues you might want to get PES 2015 instead, but if you can't afford it right now, then PES 2014 is still a fun game.

16.10.2013

Once again Konami have excelled at ineptness. The game might be great, but there is a plethora of bugs and unexplained features, you will spend as much time on the net reading up from other users what most of the features mean as you will on playing a truely immersive game. The bugs will and are getting ironed out by updates but you know Konami will leave some in there, until next year.

17.11.2013

It feels like this is a beta version and the final product will be featured in next-gen consoles. Even though it's quite pricey for a beta version it is still good fun and i recommend it, if football is what you love and if you feel like fifa 14 is the same old same as fifa 13...

6.6.2014

the game after online upgrades is pretty good. I played pro evo 12 and fifa 13 and I decided to go back to pes. I am 30 years old so I am a generation of pes and I can be honest that this game is more dynamic for me than fifa. for me is playing more important than data base.

18.1.2014

The movement of the players in the game is a lot more realistic(compared to Fifa) but I would definitely say that Fifa 14 is better.PES, in my opinion, takes too long to load, I think they have spent too much time focusing on graphics and not actual gameplay.

22.9.2013

My online dont work ether.Ok 1st fifa and pes are like day and night - pes will never touch fifa. I enjoy the game but its not jaw dropping in anyway. I dont think its worth anymore than 25 pound so wait for price to come down. 7/10 not bad but not amazing...

17.11.2013

As a standard Pes-loving player, new Pes has it all, but a steep learning curve for new players might be too mjuch.P.S. And if U wanna be a master player (as I am) it will take a lot of tears, sweat and work! Something to play for a year!
